[Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...

2008-11-10 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks, Philip! Two questions:

 - It looks like this patch would stop renewing leases for *all*
interfaces if *any* interface is using a VPN.

 - This looks very complicated to me:

   [ -n ( ifconfig -s | awk ' ( $1 ~ /^(tun|cipsec)/ ) {print $1}'
)]

   I'm no awk guru, but isn't that the same as

   ifconfig -s | egrep -q '^(tun|cipsec'
   ?

[Bug 207791] Re: winbind forgets uid/name gid/name mappings in regulary periods

I did not install SFU on my AD Domain Controller.
I am not using samba/winbindd but likewise-open like suggested - how to make a
stack trace if i can not produce this failure by command?

So, what do you suggest should happen now? Submit a bug report to samba

[Bug 296349] [NEW] logwatch replaces hostname with number

2008-11-10 Thread Nathan Crawford
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: logwatch

Release: Ubuntu 8.10
Package version: 7.3.6.cvs20080702-1ubuntu2
Expected results: Hostname is displayed in the subject line of Logwatch emails.
eg, Logwatch for hostname (Linux)
Actual results: If the system's hostname is one of the following keywords, it
is replaced with an associated integer:
yes = 1
no = 0
true = 1
false = 0
on = 1
off = 0
high = 10
med = 5
medium = 5
low = 0

In my case, the server is called medium (as in small, medium, large), which
gets replaced with 5.
I've attached a patch for logwatch.pl.

** Affects: logwatch (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 283807] Re: freeradius with openssl support doesn't compile

Juan,

I did not apply the patch directly, since the freeradius versions are different
(2.0.3 x 2.1.0). Instead, I edited the files debian/rules and debian/control,
following the tips in the patch file.
Hope this helps.

[Bug 282298] Re: Intrepid Beta: No Access to NAS samba share any more.

2008-11-10 Thread oombas
Very glad to have found this thread.
Just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 the other day, for the sake of creating a
bootable USB stick.
My NAS, a Buffalo Terastation is there, no filenames.
I then mounted my drive with the earlier mentioned method and found the last
character in the filenames missing.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gvfs-mount smb://hd-htgl947/terastation
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ smbclient -N //192.168.1.37/Terastation
Domain=[MYNAS] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.2.8a-ja-1.1]
smb: \ ls
  D0  Mon Nov 10 17:00:12 2008
  .   D0  Mon Oct 30 16:52:55 2006
  11seD0  Fri May 30 16:30:59 2008
  vmdisk  D0  Fri Jul 18 14:47:59 2008
  applD0  Mon Oct 30 17:12:21 2006
  armada_v30  D0  Thu Dec 20 23:50:57 2007
  audiD0  Sat Jul 19 13:49:40 2008

(11se should be 11sep, etc.)

What I could do however, was using OpenOffice.org and edit and save 'recent
documents' on my NAS, without problems.
Recompiled my VMware 6.5 and in my Windows VM's, everything works fine,
including my networkdrive.
Could not open my RedHat 7.3 VM because of a 'serious error because of a
retrieved NFS file handle'.
Will look afterwards into this.
So I decided to just wait for the Samba bugfix.
A bit sad to say that creating the 8.10 bootable USB stick failed, creating
looked good and the logo appears, but it won't boot.
In this case, upgrading feels a bit like downgrading.
Thanks for all the useful hints.

[Bug 296327] Re: smb:/// No application is registered as handling this file

2008-11-10 Thread Anthony Noto
I was able to recreate this bug in 8.10. I can verify that the problem
does not exist in 8.04.1. In 8.04.1, running smb:// brought up the
nautilus network browser. The workaround is very simple. You should be
able to navigate your samba network through the nautilus File Browser or
through the Places - Network menu. Your printer should be listed
there.

[Bug 222416] [NEW] package update-manager 1:0.87.24 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: SystemError in cache.commit(): E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

2008-11-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Upgrading Feisty to Heron - testing the naive route.

First - there was a hang with a syntax error in the blackjack XML.
Before I could decide what to do, get to a camera and set it up for a
screen shot, the hang self released. Probably not an issue

Second - I have a samba config. After comparing and confirming my
additions (side by side first but unreadable, then tried differences) I
wanted to use the new supplied config.I was expecting to go back
again from the differences to the selection, but either misread or
misclicked, and was told Samba installation had configuration problems.
A slight pain but again not an issue for me.

Third - Desktop could not be dealt with (I forget the exact message -
the stress of a failed upgrade doesn't help!)

And now update manager is leaving me with the concern that I might have
to reinstall!

Fortunately, a risk I was aware of and chose to take.

[Bug 289241] Re: Gnome-panel freezes when starting an application on the secondary display

2008-11-10 Thread thegve
I can confirm on that last comment, but I think it should be reporteded as a
new bug. I usually open nautilus by opening the waste bin on the bottom right
of the screen, that one always opens ok, but from the menu it usually takes the
primary screen.
Furthermore, when I click on the volume thingie to change the sound volume, it
also opens on my laptop screen, I work around this by either using my keyboard
buttons or the amplifier for the sound, which work fine.

[Bug 296213] [NEW] gnome window list only shows windows from one screen with dual screen

2008-11-10 Thread Ramon Casha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

This seems to have been fixed before
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/11030) but
now has reappeared - could be something different?

In 8.10, I have a dual monitor setup with one window list, but it only
shows windows if they're on the same screen. If I remove it and re-add
it, for a moment it shows all windows, then they disappear and leave
only the ones on the same screen. When I installed Intrepid it was
initially working correctly, then it stopped. I *think* it may be after
I tried out gdesklets and then removed them.

Is there anything I can do to return to the original functionality?

Gnome-panel 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2

  When talking to an X server supporting RandR v1.1 (instead of the

  error message to the user.

  With gdm [debug] Enable=True only 2 lines are found in syslog, which

  Using tcpdump/wireshark I found that the last request sent to the X server is
RandR opcode 8. My X server replies with BadRequest. The Xserver is correct,
because it supports only RandR v1.1 and opcode 8 was added for protocol version
  1.2 (see
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/proto/randrproto.git;f=randrproto.txt;a=blob)

  Actually gdmgreeter queries the RandR version just before the bad
  request, but obviously it does not use the version information
  appropriately.

  I'm not sure how common RandR v1.1 is these days. If the full support
  for the old protocol doesn't seem to be worth the effort, some better
  logging should be added. Alternatively, could gdmgreeter fall back to
  gdmlogin if the server supports only the old RandR protocol version?

  Workaround: switch to gdmlogin. (Called plain with facebrowser in
  gdmsetup)

  Tried to pair with a bluetooth headset. Started bluetooth-wizard, with

  Then, Please enter the following PIN code: flashed up and
  vanished, followed by Pairing with X3 micro failed.

  In fact, because it's a headset, there is no way to enter a pin code on
  it, and I presume this is why the failure occurred. What is needed is
  for the bluetooth-wizard to prompt for the headset's pin code and send
  that to the headset, rather than the other way around as is set up at
  present.

[Bug 296161] Re: Error getting font attributes, perhaps?

2008-11-10 Thread Michael Wayne Goodman
As Francis noted, it is more likely that this is a problem with xserver
and not the font. Perhaps the bug could be moved/reassigned?

[Bug 291353] Re: Upgrading from 0.13.x to 0.14.0 wipes out ingredient database

2008-11-10 Thread Rolf Leggewie
diff -Naur gourmet-0.14.0/ gourmet-0.14.2/ is 360KB even excluding the
debian and data directory. That is more than just semantics. We need
to extract the minimal patch that fixes the issue without changing
anything else. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get around to that.
Maybe you can provide some clues to speed things up?

I attach the output of diff -x .bzr -x data -x debian -Naur

[Bug 296216] [NEW] After Upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid Compose Key No longer Functions Correctly

2008-11-10 Thread airencracken
Public bug reported:

Basically the compose key does not function correctly after the upgrade
to Intrepid. When holding down the right alt key (which I have set at
the compose key) most compose key combinations will not be available.
Changes the settings and reseting them does not seem to affect it.

[Bug 290875] Re: No more UI to decide whether receiving file via bluetooth is permitted or not in Intrepid

2008-11-10 Thread Jonathan Ernst
** Description changed:

+ This is a regression between Hardy and Intrepid
+
+ == Regression details ==
+ Discovered in version: Intrepid
+ Last known good version: Hardy
+
+ == Affected use cases ==
+ Receiving files via bluetooth
+
+ == Known workaround ==
+ - use Ubuntu Hardy
+ - use browse this device function (note that browsing a device is not the
same as being able to receive files from another device)
+
+ == Potential future workaround ==
+ - install and use gnome-user-share, an universe package that depends also on
Apache... and that is currently broken (Bug #289487)
+
+ == Description ==
  In Feisty, the user was forced to install and run an obex server to be able
to receive files
  In Hardy this was fixed and there were options (always accept files, ask
user, never accept files)
  In Intrepid there is no more options, so I don't know if my computer is
supposed to be able to accept files or not (because of Bug #211252)

  Bluetooth is severly broken in Intrepid and there are many regressions
  (Bug #211252 and Bug #289836 for example)

[Bug 262817] Re: [NM 0.7 - intrepid] DHCP org.freedesktop.Dbus.Error.AccessDenied

2008-11-10 Thread david jeanneteau
Hi,

The facts:
--
yesterday i'd setup a new hardy system, dhcp and internet access worked out of
the box

then, i used knetwork manager to configure another (not working) adsl modem
-- here network manager may have updated config files

i switched back to the working adsl modem, dhcp was still working

Big problem appears after upgrading to intrepid : DHCP didn' work anymore
-- i check my nm config file: i had the expected value : user=root , problem
wasn't here !
-- i switched back to hardy network manager (using a little set of .deb files
: libnm, networkstatus, network-manager ,  network-manager-kde ..) - DHCP
works again :)

I can confirm:
 - my problem wasn't due to manual modification of network manager config files
(setup hardy, upgrade to intrepid on the same day) !
 - it looks like an issue of networkmanager configuration ( either a hardy
network manager problem; or an upgrade problem)

PS: i'm using kubuntu but the problem seems not restricted to that flavour of
ubuntu ..

[Bug 296201] Re: Places menu opens terminal in home folder

I am unable to reproduce this on a fresh Intrepid installation. None of my
peers have this issue either so it looks like something esoteric in my setup.

I'm sorry for being vague about whether this was already broken before I
upgraded.

If you can guide me on where the actions in that menu are configured
from I can have a look - I just don't know where to start.

[Bug 296121] Re: Get an error with booting my Harddrive

2008-11-10 Thread Teej
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

In this case specifically, can you tell us how you are booting, and is Ubuntu
installed or is this on the LiveCD? Also what have you tried, and how?
Thanks!

[Bug 282473] Re: cheese doesn't work with my webcam (Philips PCVC740K ToUcam Pro)

2008-11-10 Thread bojo42
maybe we should rename this bugreport (if possible) or create a new one
and mark this one as a duplicate, as the topic is somewhat misleading.
this is for sure, because other bugreports with a more matching
headlines are marked as duplicates of this one.

but it's about a bug in relation with the pwc webcam driver, intrepid
and different webcam apps. so it's not only about cheese and one
special webcam. we should correct that and reassign the project
affected, which should be rather the kernel than cheese.

@Chris S.: when you are sure that your webcam uses the pwc driver, then
the uvcvideo driver won't help you, as your webcam won't be supported by
it. you have either a pwc or a uvcvideo one. see here:

[Bug 224231] Re: Firefox tabs look malformed

2008-11-10 Thread pilat
 Forgot to write, the driver I use on my Radeon9700 is the ati driver,
 not the radeon or something else. Don't know what the difference is.

ati is like a meta-driver. It has radeon, and some other drivers (1 or
two more). The correct one is picked then, basing off installed
hardware. In your case it should be radeon, like in mine.

And I definitely have this issue with tabs, along with some other
issues, within pages themselves (specifically -- forms' controls and
some other). Desktop Effects On and Off.

And the issue goes away, after selecting a native theme for GTK apps (like
Clearlooks). I.e., it's only with gtk-qt-engine being used for theming
Firefox.
...
- The bug only happens in case you have NVidia drivers.
+ **For me**, the bug only happens in case **I** have NVidia drivers.
...
I think more correct ;-)

P.P.S.: couldn't see the same issue e.g. in Linux DC++ client.
Probably, the issue is connected to Firefox's own skin as well. Have
not tested.

[Bug 200868] Re: nvidia-settings doesn't have permissions to write xorg.conf

2008-11-10 Thread Alberto Milone
By dbus part I really meant PolicyKit “mechanism. The mechanism is a
separate program. Basically the mechanism is started with root
privileges and acts as a dbus server to which you can connect from your
client application (nvidia-settings) which is also called “agent”. When
you request the authorisation from the agent (which runs unprivileged)
you can call a function which is part of the mechanism. This function is
the one which should write the settings to the xorg.conf.

Maybe you could make your xconfigWriteConfigFile() function create an
array of strings which then you could pass to the mechanism's function
“kit_file_set_contents ()” (see the link below) so that the contents of
the xorg.conf are set to whatever nvidia-settings generated. In this way
you can keep the parser in the agent and have just one function in the
mechanism.
