[Bug 286828] Re: CIFS share broken after upgrade from 8.04 - 8.10

2008-11-18 Thread Holger Schletz
I can confirm that shares work with kernel 2.6.25 from the intrepid
repos. I still had to mount the shares with the nounix option. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ports/+bug/291487 if you
need to compile kernel modules with the 2.6.25 kernel.

Downgrading the kernel and/or disabling UNIX extensions may not be an
option for everybody. Any chance to get the patches mentioned in comment
#26 into the repos?

For completeness, here's the info from /proc/fs/cifs/DebugData (with
kernel 2.6.25 on the client side):

I'm too having the same problem. Now with Intrepid, had it also with
Hardy. Using AD 2003 + SFU.

At the moment I'm using Samba 3.2.4 packages from Debian Sid to overcome
the winbind crashing problem that is still present in Intrepids 3.2.3.

This problem exist with all three Samba versions (Hardy, Intrepid, Sid).

[Bug 299436] [NEW] Tomcat 6 should not implement the TearDown spec

2008-11-18 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

Tomcat 6 currently implements the TearDown spec [1] which provides
faster shutdown by avoiding the init script to be called at system
shutdown or reboot, and instead rely on the processes being correctly
terminated and killed by the sendsigs script.

However, one might implement LifecycleListener callbacks in webapps that
result in specific code being executed when Contexts are destroyed, and
TearDown would bypass that feature. Therefore it would be preferable not
to implement TearDown for Tomcat 6.

[Bug 286828] Re: CIFS share broken after upgrade from 8.04 - 8.10

2008-11-18 Thread punknroll
I can also confirm this bug in ubuntu 8.10. with kernel 2.6.27-7.

Just use something like pico, gedit or eclipse to modify a file. It
fails i guess using this save safe method of saving files, but I can
edit files directly in the shell without problems. Unfortunately it is a
fresh 8.10 install so i can't switch to an old kernel easily.

[Bug 286828] Re: CIFS share broken after upgrade from 8.04 - 8.10

2008-11-18 Thread Steve French
I looked at the wireshark trace in post #25 (by Alexey) and I see what
looks like a server bug in this old version of Samba (Samba 3.0.25).
Note that Samba 3.2.4 is current, and Samba 3.0.32 contains various
highly recommended fixes (Released in August Samba 3.0.32 is the latest
bug fix release for Samba 3.0 and is the version recommended for all
production Samba servers running this release series)

In frame 8 the client opens a file (imagehost.pl) which succeeds

In frame 10 the client requests information on the same file which
succeeds

In frame 14 the client tries to set the file size on the same file and
the server (incorrectly) returns STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND ...
obviously that can't be correct because the server just gave the client
info on the same file in the previous request and there is no delete in
between.

I can also confirm this bug.

One thing that might  be of interest is the error message I get from KeypassX;

Can it be that there is nothing wrong with save itself but that the
sizes of the files cannot be changed?

Is this bug persistent through later versions of Samba as well or would
an upgrade fix it?

The trace of the write failure in post 25 shows the server incorrectly
rejecting an attempt to set the file size, so it is plausible that
writes would work (also since writes are handle based not path based)
but that the setting of file size explicitly would fail.

Is this bug persistent through later versions of Samba as well or would
 an upgrade fix it?
If the version of the server in your case is also Samba 3.0.25a (see
/proc/fs/cifs/DebugData on the client to display session information
including the server version) then I think it plausible that a server
upgrade would fix it.

I added the mount to 192.168.1.105 for testing and it seems that with
Samba version 3.0.24, the writes don't work correctly while the 3.0.26a
mount does work correctly.

3.0.24 is from Feisty and 3.0.26a is from Gutsy. Even though the Feisty
mount was working before hand, I get something happened to fix a problem
that stopped it from working?

Can a working Samba version be back ported to Feisty? Or do we need to
upgrade to Gutsy (at least)?

This was a feature since check_ntp had multiple possible possible

[Bug 249824] Re: [intrepid] IPv6 unusable

2008-11-18 Thread Manson Thomas
Hi,

I reproduce this bug on a Secondary DNS Server, ubuntu x86-64 8.10.
Thinks were ok on 8.04 and after upgrade I get this message in the log :

Nov 18 13:36:11 ns1 named[32579]: no IPv6 interfaces found

while I'm on a machine with both ipv4 and ipv6 activated.

Does anyone have an idea of when the fix will be available on apt-get upgrade
?
Is there a mean to get the fix earlier to test it ?

Note : I can provide some more info on my server or make some test if
I'm asked to do so ;)

Thomas.

Re: [Bug 230887] Re: intel wifi iwl4965 faults also on Hardy

2008-11-18 Thread DannyDei
Ciao Leann
and thank you for your note.

I feel the bug was depending on the wi-fi alarm system which is
installed on my house in the country : by the way only Ubuntu had got
that problem not any other PC nor my same Samsung Q45 booted in Windows XP.

For avoiding the problem in Hardy I go switch my laptop in the bathroom,
where there is no alarm transmitter, then while the SSID is found and
connected I can move all a round the house.

I have tried the up-grade to the 8.10 but it was a DISASTER : no
wi-fi not even the icon, no ALSA speaker+microphone and more faults
that I had no time to face and check and preferred to reinstalled the 8.04.

I will try the Ibex as soon as I will have time to face the incognito of
it : I was really deluded and my trust on Ubuntu new release went really
down, next time I will be more careful on the up-grade . the
upgrade went KO and I had to install it from the ISO -CD then back
again with the ISO-CD 8.04 . all the personalizations and extra
added software had been LOST.

Is there a way to install any extra sw on the /home partition so all my
work won't be destroyed every time I have to reinstall from the live-cd ?

Thank you for your assistance.
Kindest regards
Danny

 Hi Danny,

It looks like you reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any recent activity. I'm curious if you have been able to test the more
recent Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release and if this is still an issue? For
now I'm going to migrate this bug forward to the actively developed

want to make sure that we carry bugs forward. Thanks.

Thanks for your report. This is not the exact same report as bug 139760

[Bug 285682] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 can't mount digital camera

2008-11-18 Thread Walter
For what it may be worth. I reinstalled Intrepid last night, keeping
home intact of course. This seems to have fixed the problems I was
having with my Leica and Panasonic cameras. Somehow the updates were
ineffective on my system until now. This might be a last resort for
Leica and Panasonic users still having problems.

I do it two ways By hitting the delete button on the keyboard or by

[Bug 299366] [NEW] Intrepid 64Bit - CDRom readable/unreadable

2008-11-18 Thread RinTinTigger
Public bug reported:

Hello there,

i have a strange bug with my cdrom drive (which works perfectly under Windows).
I can Install Ubuntu 8.10 64Bit from the drive, everything works. As soon as
Ubuntu
is installed the drive is acting strange. If i insert a CD, an Icon shows up, i
can access the
CD and see what files are on it. As soon as i try to install something, copy
files or acces a folder
on the drive, the CDRom drive freezes. Even with the ubuntu-disk i installed
the OS from.

I cant eject it, access it nothing. I also cant burn a cd.

Can u guys help?

[Bug 299365] [NEW] xubuntu - screen brightness dims after screensaver initializes

2008-11-18 Thread Brittany Dunlap
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu 8.10, all updates applied.

After the screen saver has initialized and I come back from being away,
the screen brightness is dimmed considerably. Xbacklight doesn't work
and fn+right arrow is buggy.

Fn+right arrow which controls screen brightness on my laptop does not
work properly, if repeatedly tapping the right arrow (fast) it seems to
get confused and the brightness goes up and down fast in succession. It
does work if done slowly. If I hold down fn+right arrow the brightness
does go to full light. No screen representation when using the function
keys like in Gnome.

xbacklight works fine after I manually put the screen at highest
brightness slowly tapping fn+rightarrow.

I don't know of this is one bug or two (or more) but at least here is
the base report.

Expected results:
1. Screensaver should un-dim the screen after it ends.
2. Fn key combo should not be picky as to how fast you tap the keys.
3. Xbacklight should work, it works right in Ubuntu 8.04LTS.

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 7720 (not gamer edition)
Intel 965GM
2Gig DDR2 ram
250Gig HDD

[Bug 298166] Re: 8.10 much slower than 8.04 and less stable

2008-11-18 Thread gerard
Another point maybe helpful for you on both 8.04 and 8.10:

When I depress PrintScreen, rather long to operate, the longest time
delay is when I want to give a name to this print screen, it takes
several seconds before the new name comes up to the screen

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not restore the previous session

2008-11-18 Thread erlguta
I know many people who don't want to upgrade to Intrepid until this very
annoying bug is resolved. Is somebody working on it?, Why it still appears
triage status?. We will have to wait until Jaunty (as ever)?.
Perhaps this is not the place to discuss the impotence of view this situation.
If someone wants to discuss this, please comment on this post to try to find
solutions:

[Bug 299370] [NEW] autostart question wen external drive present even if no executable in autorun.inf (Intrepid)

2008-11-18 Thread fabb
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid, everytime when a USB drive etc. is connected
and an autorun.inf is present on this device, the autostart-question
dialogue appears.

problem: when the autorun.inf just contains an icon link for the drive
and no executable, the dialogue also appears.

[Bug 299284] Re: Network Manager having issues with two concurrent connections

2008-11-18 Thread Stephan Trebels
Just to know what it'll attempt to do:
what are your /etc/network/interfaces,
/etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf, nm-tool output, and relevant
syslog for both machines?

[Bug 299245] Re: Evolution: delete trash with IMAP crashes

2008-11-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
