[Bug 305014] Re: Authentication fails in cups web admin module
In Ubuntu by default there is no root password defined. If you did not define one, you have to give the credentials of a user in the lpadmin group. The first user which Ubuntu creates on installation is in the lpadmin group. This can also be a bug of LDAP. [Bug 246322] Re: nis package must provide DHCP client scripts
Usually root can always login to fix things on the console, unless you explicitly disable root login, and rely upon an unprivileged user running sudo, as Ubuntu does. So your system non-functional argument is surely a home-made problem. Maybe it would be possible to introduce some debconf menu to enable this feature? [Bug 239513] Re: [SRU] stack smashing detected when calling xmlrpc_set_type
One last comment: I rebuilt the php package (on i386) using the sources in hardy-proposed; as part of its build, php runs a fairly extensive set of regression tests. There are a couple of new failures versus the results (recorded in the security team's qa-regression-testing bzr tree) from 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.3: Bug #20382 [2] (strtotime (Monday, $date) produces wrong result on DST changeover) [ext/date/tests/bug20382-2.phpt] Bug #41567 (json_encode() double conversion is inconsistent with PHP) [ext/json/tests/bug41567.phpt] microtime() function [ext/standard/tests/time/001.phpt] (warn: system dependent) None of these looks very serious, but might be worth double-checking. [Bug 305002] Re: SNMP Upgrade ... Possible Bug? [USN-685-1]
This may either be an issue specific to my system with 'update-rc.d' and/or 'invoke-rc.d' or to Gutsy in general. I am unable to test further but I have crafted a workaround... After the process goes defunct, Ctrl-C to kill it. Then edit '/var/lib/dpkg/info/snmpd.postinst' (after backing up your original of course) and make the following changes... []# diff snmpd.postinst.bak snmpd.postinst 19,26c19,26 if [ -x /etc/init.d/snmpd ]; then update-rc.d snmpd multiuser /dev/null if [ -x `which invoke-rc.d 2/dev/null` ]; then invoke-rc.d snmpd start || exit $? else /etc/init.d/snmpd start || exit $? fi fi --- #if [ -x /etc/init.d/snmpd ]; then # update-rc.d snmpd multiuser /dev/null # if [ -x `which invoke-rc.d 2/dev/null` ]; then # invoke-rc.d snmpd start || exit $? # else # /etc/init.d/snmpd start || exit $? # fi #fi Now, stop snmpd (if it is running)... []# sudo /etc/init.d/snmpd stop Run your updates... []# sudo apt-get update []# sudo apt-get upgrade All should go as planned and snmpd should now complete (as far as apt is concerned). Now just start snmpd manually... []# sudo /etc/init.d/snmpd start This is the only time you have to do this as snmpd will start at boot time no problems. The issue here was the script making the choice on how to start it. The command 'invoke-rc.d' was returning 'exit 103' instead of 'exit 1', so this workaround opts not to use it. As I said before, this could be a problem specific to my system or to Gutsy in general as I cannot replicate this problem in Hardy or Intrepid. -- SNMP Upgrade ... Possible Bug? [Bug 304988] Re: New window changes are not propogated
No... but you've prompted me to look into it further because its hard to believe it is not working: If I create a new document then 'New window' works correctly including saving and restoring the document and doing new window again. It consistently fails to work on the document I've attached. This document was recovered after corruption I detailed in bug 304695. However, the problem may have predated that particular recovery. I've just had a fairly lengthy attempt to repro this on an alternative document and have not managed to do so. Copying all of the content in the attached into a new document results in a similar problem in the new document. Its fairly easy to repro 304695 playing around with this too so I think they are the same problem (resulting from a corruption in the document - cause unknown). As copying the content does not get rid of the problem, I've tried saving the doc as an rtf and opening it - the problem still occurs. I can't output the xml because the jre (I have 1.6 is not noticed by open office and I have no idea how to configure it (I'll look into that)). ** Attachment added: page_specifications.odt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20199199/page_specifications.odt -- New window changes are not propogated https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106986] Re: Feisty : Ctrl + F doesn't work
I've found what i believe might be the solution to this as it was posted as a problem for other users who had installed xbindkeys... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=195255 since the xbindkeys-config didn't work for me, I had to use gedit ~/.xbindkeysrc and I simply changed the line # set directly keycode (here control + f with my keyboard) # xterm # c:41 + m:0x4 to control + g so now i have my search back, although i'm sure those could be removed altogether for the same effect Also, in case you cannot edit that file because it doesn't exist, you can create it by using the following command: xbindkeys --defaults /home/alex/.xbindkeysrc Anyway, hope this garble helps anybody else with a similar problem -- Feisty : Ctrl + F doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106986 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 305067] [NEW] Cannot connect to WPA2 Enterprise network (Intrepid)
Public bug reported: nm-applet 0.7, installed by default with Intrepid Desktop (x86-64) After a clean install of Intrepid, I was able to connect to my home network which uses WPA2 Personal without any problems. When I brought my laptop to school, I was unable to connect. The applet apparently fails to connect, and asks me for my credentials again. The connection fails each time, returning another prompt for my credentials. The school's wireless network is WPA Enterprise (not sure which version). I tried all the options (TLS, PEAP, LEAP, etc.), but still could not get connected. The network requires a username and password to login. (On my iPhone, after I put in my information, it prompts me to accept a certificate for the Radius server.) I previously used Hardy (x86) with nm 0.6 with no problems whatsoever. [Bug 262728] Re: plasma crashed with SIGSEGV in QGraphicsLinearLayout::insertItem()
As cato speaks about root password, it is perhaps important to note for him ubuntu does not set the root password. You log in as yourself in eg Alt + F2 tty, then do sudo command to become root as the main users (your own password). As .kde folder is in your home directory you need not be root though. As a person WORKING with a KDE environment, I do not ever delete my .kde folder as I loose my configs like that. I believe deleting .kde/share/config/plasma-appletsrc suffices to make plasma return to the default setting. Note that as I spend some time configuring plasma, I do not even delete .kde/share/config/plasma-appletsrc, instead I rename it, go to default, then set the renamed again to the normal name, deleting entry after entry, so as to obtain again a working plasma environment, with all the configs I did, bar the one causing the crash. -- plasma crashed with SIGSEGV in QGraphicsLinearLayout::insertItem() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262728 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 44255] Re: Doesn't wait long enough before giving up
Hi, I have exactly the same issue in 8.10. I also had it in 8.04. The problem comes when you do many things on start-up and it takes too long for the i8kmon window to appear so gnome-swallower does not find it. It then asks it you wish to reload which then works fine but leaves the original application running. The simplest solution is the one presented, increase the time out from 10 to say 30 seconds. Other solutions would be to make the timeout an option in the applet. Finally it could continue to poll for the window while the Reload confirmation window is being shown and if the application windows appears while the reload dialog is shown then automatically close it. Alternatively, it the user presses reload, first check it the window is there before rerunning the application. Please let me know whether the problem still persists or not and whether the backtrace is the same or different. -- kernel crashes at boot on a dell inspiron 531. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295091 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290885] Re: SRU: Backport of Boot Degraded RAID functionality from Intrepid to Hardy
I'm working through verification of this fix, and one thing that I've come across is that if the raid was setup using the older version of grub/grub-installer (e.g. off of 8.04.1 media), grub-install is not re- invoked and so the second disk still does not have a grub stage 1 in its MBR. Thus, if the first disk of a raid1 set fails, the system will still not boot at all. In talking with Dustin about this on IRC, he suggested that it's probably best handled as a documentation issue. I think it would be useful to to at least warn via debconf/update-notifier if /boot is on an md device and grub is being updated from a version that did not support grub-install /dev/mdX properly. Also, for testing the update to grub-installer, it would be useful if we could do a one-off spin of the hardy images for testing in prep for 8.04.2. (That's the only issue I've come across so far; now that I've manually run 'grub-install /dev/md0', I'm able to boot in degraded mode off of either disk). -- SRU: Backport of Boot Degraded RAID functionality from Intrepid to Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290885 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 179698] Re: (Intrepid, Hardy) Intel 4965 wlan stops working
Having spent many unhappy hours trying to get Intrepid to work on my Laptop, I finally gave up, backed-up the important files and prepared to re-install Hardy on my Laptop. But before I did so, I thought I would do a clean install of Intrepid and see if it made a difference - it did. Everything now works! The Wireless works fine as does the sound. The only observation is that the WiFi reg domain is set to the US default and needs a syscntl change to set it to Europe (Why isn't this a locale setting?). It seems that the problem is in the upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid and not Intrepid itself, and a clue to the reason may be found in another problem. I also use Bluetooth with my Nokia phone for mobile internet access. This worked fine after the upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid, but did not work on the Intrepid clean install. That is until I changed the OTT security policy to permit me to use a modem to access the internet. The permissions on pppd seemed to have changed to stop world execute - although on the upgrade version these permissions remained unchanged. My guess is that the upgrade problem is the policy manager. Many permissions have changed and these are not being correctly reflected in the upgrade. -- (Intrepid, Hardy) Intel 4965 wlan stops working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This might be faster to fix by submitting a patch to Debian (when it will be automatically picked up by Ubuntu when the package is synced). [Bug 305078] [NEW] after automatic update, /usr/lib is not in library path
Public bug reported: Not sure about the cause, but this morning (but I maybe did not reboot for a long time) the synaptic and eclipse (and possibly many more progs) stopped working with the message : $ synaptic synaptic: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: cairo_scaled_font_get_font_options The workaround is adding line : /usr/lib to the file (for example) /etc/ld.so.conf.d/libc.conf. And then running ldconfig as root. I am not sure what the root cause is ... only I know that the libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu7 installed as the last package. [Bug 272537] Re: cooling fan wont turn on
@terry_gardener -- there is an updares toshiba acpi module in the -proposed kernel which may well sort this out for you, testing there would be very helpful. @Petar Velkovski -- Undecided simply means noone has triaged the bug and selected a level. Your symptoms sound similar, but as they relate to an ACPI issue on a different hardware platform you are very likely to need a different solution, therefore it is safest to file a separate bug for that, they can be trivially merged later if they are the same not so split. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Summary changed: - cooling fan wont turn on + toshiba satellite amilo a100-998: cooling fan wont turn on -- toshiba satellite amilo a100-998: cooling fan wont turn on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272537 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
