[Bug 336576] [NEW] php5-ldap has Unmet dependencies

2009-03-02 Thread Toufeeq Hussain
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5-ldap

I cannot install php5-ldap as the package has unmet Dependencies.
Following is the APT output.

sudo apt-get install php5-ldap
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  php5-ldap: Depends: php5-common (= 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.3) but 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.5 is
to be installed
E: Broken packages

Looks like the latest version of this package is not updated to Hardy.
PHP5-LDAP is still dependent on version 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.3 of php5-common
but the latest version in Hardy is 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.5

Please help.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2009-03-02 Thread Thierry Carrez
Quick status update/summary on this bug, because this thread is long and
tends to discourage people that could solve it.

The bug occurs on shutdown if you mount a CIFS share (using mount or
/etc/fstab). In some cases, S31umountnfs.sh tries to unmount the network
file system *after* the network has been brought down. CIFS doesn't
handle so well having the network pulled out from under it, so it stalls
the shutdown process for some time, but the shutdown finally succeeds.

The most common case appears to be those using NetworkManager to handle
the network interface (NetworkManager gets killed by S20sendsigs, before
S31umountnfs.sh). If you are not using NetworkManager at all (and have
your network defined in /etc/network/interfaces), the unmount will
succeed. That's why this bug doesn't really affect Ubuntu Server
systems. Also I would argue that you should not mount things system-wide
while having your network up/down at Gnome session start (think
wireless). Nautilus-based mounts seem like a better idea in that case.

It's *not* simple to fix. There are lots of workarounds which will solve
the problem for your use case, but which will also break it for other
folks. The fact that workaround X solves the issue for you doesn't make
it a proper update that can be applied to all other Ubuntu systems.
Cutting the network filesystem before S20sendsigs for example may result
in data corruption, which is arguably worse than an annoying delay at
shutdown.

The best way of solving this is to have CIFS (probably in kernel) better
support having the network pulled out from under it. I haven't really
found how we could do that, but I'll try to invite some CIFS specialists
here. Another way could be to exclude NetworkManager from S20sendsigs
and kill it properly at ~S35... constructive, technical comments
welcome.

It's true that the way Launchpad works doesn't help us in solving this
kind of in-between-packages bugs (and most distributions won't be better
than us). But bitching about it just makes developers turn to easier
(and more rewarding) bugs to fix.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2009-03-02 Thread Thierry Carrez
smfrench:
Could you have a look at the CIFS timeout part ? Do you think it's possible to
have CIFS more gracefully handle the case where the network is being pulled out
from under it ? I can reproduce the issue with the current jaunty kernel, so
this wasn't fixed as of the 2.6.28 we use. Or maybe it's in the userspace
side ?

See

this version gets into Jaunty, and so that people can start testing it.

If you want to get it building against that library, please:

 2) file an MIR for powerman, see:

[Bug 334374] Re: libnss-ldap should not depend on libpam-ldap

Strictly speaking libpam-ldap isn't a dependency to libnss-ldap. Instead
it listed as a Recommended.

From Intrepid and forward Ubuntu automatically installs Recommended
packages. Still, there is a difference compared to if it had been a pure

[Bug 334374] Re: libnss-ldap should not depend on libpam-ldap

2009-03-02 Thread Michael Kofler
This way you can still remove libpam-ldap (afterwards)
 without libnss-ldap being removed too.

no (try it)

the problem is ldap-auth-client

libnss-ldap depends on ldap-auth-config
ldap-auth-config depends on ldap-auth-client
ldap-auth-client depends on both libnss-ldap and libpam-ldap

Do you still consider this a bug?

perhaps it's not strictly a bug, but with the pam auto configuration
introduced in 8.10 it leads to unneccessary confusion; you have to call
pam-auth-update to explicitly deactivate libpam-ldap

You are right; libpam-ldap really ends up being hard dependency to

solution. I'll mark this bug as confirmed, and we'll see what happens.

[Bug 337094] [NEW] FFe request: samba 3.3.1

2009-03-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I'm requesting a Feature Freeze exception for a new upstream release of
samba, bumping us from samba 3.3.0 to 3.3.1.

I would *not* characterize 3.3.1 as a bugfix-only microrelease, but it
does include a number of bugfixes that are important, and there are also
important bugfixes in the Debian 3.3.1-1 upload. The effort of cherry-
picking the bugfixes we want would outweigh the risk of regression.

Upstream changelog:

Major enhancements in Samba 3.3.1 include:

 * Fix net ads join when ldap ssl = start tls (bug #6073).
 * Fix renaming/deleting of files using Windows clients (bug #6082).
 * Fix renaming/deleting a not matching/resolving symlink (bug #6090).
 * Fix remotely adding a share via the Windows MMC.

[Bug 334289] Re: applying changes window doesn't fit on screen

2009-03-02 Thread feranick
I cannot reproduce this bug. At all stages of the update process
(downloading the packages and installing them) the update screen
perfectly fits the screen.

Looking at your screenshot I wonder if you are using the custom Dell-
mini version of Ubuntu (that comes preinstalled) or you installed a
generic version of Ubuntu... If the latter is true I would not be
surprised the panel doesn't fit.

Please provide more info about the version of ubuntu you are using.

[Bug 335741] Re: [jaunty]python(2.6)-based apps cannot meet dependencies

2009-03-02 Thread Luca Falavigna
Andrew, could you please prepare an update for this package? You could
grab entry from mentors.debian.net (thanks Cristian for your work!) and
transition it for Python 2.6. These changes would enter Debian soon
because they will turn to Python 2.6 soon, so we can sync it later on.

Meanwhile, I'm subscribing motu-release to process this upload. I attach
Changelog to weigh changes introduced (they required a SONAME bump which
affects qbittorrent as rdependency).

[Bug 336436] Re: /usr/bin/lsb_release:81: DeprecationWarning: the sets module is deprecated

2009-03-02 Thread Colin Watson
I know python 2.3 isn't particularly important any more, but I still
hate breaking compatibility when it's easy not to (particularly since
you didn't change dependencies or anything to indicate the new
requirement). How about this:

try:
set # introduced in 2.4
except NameError:
import sets
set = sets.Set

... and then just use 'set' instead of 'sets.Set' in the rest of the
program?

[Bug 290139] Re: LIRC for Anyware GP-IR02BK Remote Transmitter

2009-03-02 Thread nerver
Hey,

I just thought I would add in here that I can confirm the same issue in
ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 with this mce remote tranceiver. Mine is actually
called a mediagate mce remote but is the same one, GP-IR02BK. The Ir
reciever works perfectly out of the box but cannot seem to transmit
anything. I get no errors doing irsend from command line but the ir
emitter led doesn't flash at all. I have tried on lirc 0.8.3 and 0.8.4a
(which should have the correct hardware and manufacturer codes fro this
remote from what I gather).

Anywho, I don't know if this is the right place for this either, i just
came across this post and though i would add my experience with this
remote in here.

Cheers,
-Sean

[Bug 285936] Re: sandbox directory has no subfolders

2009-03-02 Thread Luca Falavigna
Sandbox removed upstream.

http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=660191group_id=27747:
Sandbox Removed
---
While porting SciPy to NumPy in 2005, several packages and modules
were moved into ``scipy.sandbox``. The sandbox was a staging ground
for packages that were undergoing rapid development and whose APIs
were in flux. It was also a place where broken code could live. The
sandbox has served its purpose well, but was starting to create
confusion. Thus ``scipy.sandbox`` was removed. Most of the code was
moved into ``scipy``, some code was made into a ``scikit``, and the
remaining code was just deleted, as the functionality had been
replaced by other code.

The onboard chip ist an Intel 4500MHD.

[Bug 96976] Re: gparted shows empty disk

2009-03-02 Thread Sam Liddicott
What more information do you need?

lspci and lsusb have nothing to do with the problem, nor does the disk
type or settings.

Most people who have this problem don't have this problem for very long
because they fix it; but you can reproduce the problem on any PC like
this:

sudo sfdisk -d /dev/sdX | tee ORIG.$$ | sed 's/^\(.*start=
*\)\([0-9]*\)\(.*\)/\1 63 \3/' | sudo sfdisk /dev/sdX

and produce an overlapping partition table by making all partitions
start at position 63.

In such a case gparted wrongly shows that there are no partitions.

I don't see why you'd want to co-install different versions of

If the package is supposed to do things with alternatives (thanks for

my own machine, when I needed to consult the manpages they were not
found.

I will investigate a bit further.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-impress

When opening PPT files, my ooimpress 3 is crashing (every time).

I tried with several PPT files from work. I also tried, to write a very
simple PPT file using Powerpoint 2007 (and saving in PPT 2003 format),
which also makes my ooimpress crash.

I uploading my test file so that you can confirm. Note that I'm using
up-to-date jaunty.

[Bug 336573] [NEW] undocumented system call clock_nanosleep

2009-03-02 Thread Shentino
Public bug reported:

Multiple packages suspected
manpages-dev
libc6

The system call clock_nanosleep does not have documentation, and I
cannot determine if it is supposed to exist or not.

Release: 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
Updated thru March 1 2009
Package versions:
   libc6: 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu9
   manpages-dev: 3.01-1

Expected result: diagnostics about proper usage. Either ENOSYS or
EINVAL would have tested if the function in question was defined in the
kernel, or a compiler error compalining about clock_nanosleep not being
declared

Actual result: a linker error claiming that clock_nanosleep was not
defined

test case:

#include test.h

int main()
{
clock_nanosleep(0, 0, 0, 0);
}

What I think should have happened:

If the system call didn't exist, the macro enabling its declaration
__USE_XOPEN2K, should not have been defined, and the compiler should
have choked instead of the linker.

If the system call does exist, it should have a manpage. If it doesn't,
then it shouldn't be declared in the first place.

There is a problem with either

1) The manpages and the libc6 both omitting this function when the time.h file
declares it
2) Feature macros that erroneously enable this

I don't know which the case is. The reference to this function in
time(7) manpage suggests its existence at large. Whether or not it
does, or is supposed to, in my libs and kernel, is unknown.

It does make sense to have the latest version as the backport. I'm not
sure why you would prefer 1.42 over 1.51. The latest version includes a
large number of bugfixes.

1.42 is no longer in the Ubuntu archive as it has been replaced by 1.51

There is no bug, it is problem in packaging libical. I can not
reproduce this bug after installing libical from source.

No it's not, you probably didn't build libical with the option to abort

I just got Intrepid and Jaunty to boot with my setup. It seems that if
the SATA DVD Drive is plugged into a higher port number and the SATA
drives are in front of it - it works.. For example:

Using the following does not work:

PORT A0 - SATA DVD Drive
PORT A1 - SATA HARD DRIVE
PORT B0 - SATA HARD DRIVE

But this DOES work:

PORT A0 - SATA Hard Drive
PORT A1 - SATA Hard Drive

Re: [Bug 221329] Re: [Mobility 9200] Kubuntu live CD (and install) hangs during boot on Vaio PCG-K215Z

2009-03-02 Thread SteveH
My Sony laptop had a hardware failure, and I replaced it. So, unfortunately,
I'm unable to help any more. Now running Kubuntu 8.10 on an Acer Aspire and
it's working great.

However, bearing in mind, I couldn't get through the install, I'm not sure
how I could have tried changing AGPMode settings.

Regards,
Steve H.

 file a new bug.

[Bug 336577] [NEW] Warning messages with Python 2.6, please update to new version

2009-03-02 Thread Ulf Rompe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rss2email

Since Jaunty comes with Python 2.6, r2e spits out these warnings:

/usr/share/rss2email/rss2email.py:222: DeprecationWarning: the md5 module is
deprecated; use hashlib instead
import cPickle as pickle, md5, time, os, traceback, urllib2, sys, types
/usr/share/rss2email/rss2email.py:233: DeprecationWarning: the mimify module is
deprecated; use the email package instead
import mimify; from StringIO import StringIO as SIO; mimify.CHARSET = 'utf-8'

http://rss2email.infogami.com/blog/ shows that Version 2.65 fixes these
warnings.

** Affects: rss2email (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
