Hello,

I can not test it on the same system. But I have tried on another PC and
have not reproduced the bug.

Greetings.

From your logs, it looks like another package installation process was
running at the same time. Can you reproduce the problem ?

I'm afraid that it's probably too late in Jaunty to do that, but I'll
  leave that for the MIR-team.

It's not a MIR process question, we have traditionally moved packages
between components until the bitter end of a release (not that I
*like* that, but it was just necessary). It's rather a question of who
will maintain the package and whether we have the resources in the
server team to support it. If the server team wants it, please go
 ahead with the SRU.

well, the server team has /me behind, at both upstream and Debian levels.
that should help a bit ;-)

[Bug 238542] Re: Firefox crashes when dragging menu item

2009-03-08 Thread Justin Husted
This bug is 100% repro in Firefox 3.0.7 / Intrepid. The repro steps are
as follows:

1. Move mouse to bookmarks bar.
2. Press mouse button and release.
3. Move mouse to an item in the bar.
4. Click and drag.

Result:
Firefox freezes 100% of the time with the mouse pointer grabbed, requiring a
console (or zap mode + ctrl-alt-kp/)

Expected result:
Firefox works.

[Bug 156191] Re: Printing from Java does not work at all with cups 1.2

2009-03-08 Thread craigster0
i'm using Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), and the only work around that works
for me is the one described by aurorius. basically, i couldn't find the
Job Options tab. either i'm stupid, or else it is changed in my
version of CUPS (which is 1.3.7-1ubuntu3).

you can read my long description of the bug and fix here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6858372postcount=10

but all of this information is included above, or in references cited by
the above listings. but i'll summarize the fix cited above:

i'm using Ubuntu 8.04 (really Kubuntu 8.04) Hardy Heron. what i did was
edit /etc/cups/printers.conf and add the line

Option orientation-requested 3

just above /Printer everywhere it appears in the file. for example:

ErrorPolicy retry-job
+ Option orientation-requested 3
/Printer

you must be root to edit the file. to do this with sudo and vi:

% sudo vi /etc/cups/printers.conf

you should probably save a backup copy of the file before you edit it.

after you edit the file you must restarts the Cups daemon. try:

% sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart

[Bug 238542] Re: Firefox crashes when dragging menu item

2009-03-08 Thread Justin Husted
Attached is a GDB log session for Firefox after it freezes. It was marginally
more difficult to get it to freeze while running
firefox in GDB: I had to wiggle the mouse more. It may have taken 20 seconds.

Sadly, this log session has little useful data in it since Firefox's
libraries seem to have practically no symbols, but perhaps it's useful
to somebody.

For reference, if someone else wants to reproduce this, you need to run
firefox in GDB from either the console or another computer, since this
bug will freeze your X11 session, preventing you from, say, using GDB.
In either case, you would do this:

1. Go to console/other computer and log into your debug computer.
2. export DISPLAY=:0
3. firefox -g
4. run
5. Go back to X11, if you were on the console
6. Repro bug
7. Go back to console/other computer
8. ctrl-c to break into debugger

I recently downloaded a few updates from Ubuntu. On re-booting the

'grew' from Left to right (0 to 100%). My Wallpaper had shrunk I
guessed I the resolution had improved. On checking 'System' then
'Preferences' then 'Screen Resolution' it was '1024*768 (4:3). Instead
of 800*600. Now the graphics are great.

On recent Linux kernels (2.6.24? definitely 2.6.25), the kernel logs a

[Bug 325414] Re: totem-gstreamer-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in memset()

2009-03-08 Thread Derrick Neve
I just got totem-gstreamer-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in
memset(). I was not running totem (as far as I know) but had just
emptied the trash and had clicked to close the window when I got this
message. I'm sorry but I don't have much more to say. Recent update
from 8.10 to 9.04 (but I'm going back or I'll never get any work done)

Happy hunting!

Derrick

[Bug 339451] [NEW] import too slow - enable import button before preview complete

2009-03-08 Thread Sam Liddicott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I'm trying to import about 1700 photos from an NFS share, and
annoyingly the import button of the import dialog is disabled and
seems that it will remain disabled until all the image thumbnails have
loaded in the import dialog.

At 1 per second this is going to take half an hour just to be able to
click the import button - and then probably go through it all again as
it does the actual import.

Please allow the import to work while the thumbnails are being generated
- sometimes people just want to import a large folder and don't want to
inspect each thumbnail just to be sure.

[Bug 339449] [NEW] FeatureFreezeException: Merge mit-scheme with Debian

2009-03-08 Thread Evan Broder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mit-scheme

The mit-scheme package has been uninstallable since Intrepid, due to
some bad auto-generated dependencies (LP bug #288000).

It also hasn't worked without some hacking around AppArmor since at
least Hardy (LP bug #217792).

Re-syncing the package from Debian Testing and rebuilding solves both of
these problems.

I think this merits a FeatureFreezeException simply because the chance
of regression is 0 - the package is uninstallable now, so it can't
regress.

For this resync, I've updated the bootstrap image by using the binary
package for mit-scheme 7.7.90+20090107-1 from squeeze, in order to keep
the package more or less up to date.

I'm excluding the debdiffs in this case because they're truly massive,
thanks to the uuencoded Debian archive used for bootstrapping

[Bug 339453] [NEW] netboot installer is not able to overwrite existing LVM partition

2009-03-08 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

1. Install Fedora 10 (It will create two partitions, one for /boot and another
for the LVM volume which includes two logical volumes, one for the root
filesystem and another for the swap).
2. Download linux and initrd.gz from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/gtk/ubuntu-installer/amd64/
(Done on 8th March 2009 around 8:00 UTC)
3. Boot the machine with the Ubuntu kernel and initrd.
4. Start the installation and select 'guided partition' using the whole disk
and LVM.
5. Wait for ever (I give up after 15 minutes).

The log says:

[...]
partman: Found volume group VolGroup00 using metadata type lvm2
partman-lvm: 2 logical volume(s) in volume group VolGroup00
partman-lvm: Can't remove open logical volume LogVol00
partman-lvm: Can't remove open logical volume LogVol01
partman-lvm: 0 logical volume(s) in volume group VolGroup00 now active

Pressing Ctrl+C in the installer, the partitioner is launched again, but
it stalls at 52% of its initial progress bar and I need to reboot and
start again.

The only solution I found was to remove the LVM partiton manually and reboot,
so the installer doesn't find the old LVM volume.

Not quite. This bug is about moving from notifications to using the

react to the new UI in Update Manager before doing the same thing to

[Bug 328386] Re: Guidance Power Manager Brightness (KDE 4.2)

2009-03-08 Thread ellull
I also had the same problem that Thomas Winteler reported. I'm using
kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.2 extra repositories (deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-experimental/ubuntu intrepid main).

The guidance-power-amanger backtrace says that the file
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/kde4.py
doesn't exists. I checked it and it exists but it's a broken symbolic
link: it points to the non-existent /usr/share/kde4/apps/pykde4/kde4.py
file.

I removed the broken symlink (sudo rm /usr/lib/python2.5/site-
packages/PyQt4/uic/widget-plugins/kde4.py) and now, guidance-power-
manager starts.

I copypaste the versions of guidance-power-manager and python-kde4 packages:

[Bug 268434] Re: Screen Resolution is not being restored after relogin

2009-03-08 Thread vrix
I've got same problem on COMPAQ S710 (CRT-0) Monitor using GeForce FX 5500 PCI
video card.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Gnome and KDE 4.2.00

Using System Settings-Display then resize it from 1280x1024 to 1024 x
768, then apply would work. But, when I re log-in it will switch back to
previous setting.

Solution: Since I installed restricted drivers in Gnome because I'm
using NVidia drivers, I have the application NVIDIA X Server Settings.
In Nvidia X Server Settings, I clicked X Server Display
Configuration-Resolution-1024 x 768-Apply. Then I would Save To X
Configuration File in home folder. Then, I would copy the saved
xorg.conf file to /etc/X11, then re-login and it will work.

Comment: It seems that the System Settings-Display won't save the file
in xorg as root.

hope this helps.

Claudius, it would be good if someone had Ubuntu 8.04 installed to try

qualifies then please follow the instructions for How to request new

[Bug 339421] Re: devede lacks an entry in the gnome menu

2009-03-08 Thread Rolf Leggewie
thank you for your comment, guys.

The point is of course, that this entry is not there for me. I would not
have written this report otherwise. The place you mentioned is the
first thing I checked.

I am on Jaunty. Most packages are up-to-date except a few things held
back from problems with python 2.6.

[Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver

2009-03-08 Thread antareus
Hi,
I am using Debian Squeeze with hybrid-postsrc-x86_32-v5_10_79_10.tar.gz driver,
but I tried b43 as well. In both Debian and Kubuntu Intrepid, the behaviour is
always the same as described above - it works and then, after few minutes, it
disconnects forever. I think it is a hardware problem - try to switch off the
power management.

iwconfig wlan0 essid .. power off

It works for me so far.

Bests
Antareus

[Bug 331049] Re: 2.6.27-12 and 2.6.27-13 booting error

2009-03-08 Thread Shaikailash
** Summary changed:

- 2.6.27-12 booting error
+ 2.6.27-12 and 2.6.27-13 booting error

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: linux-headers-2.6.27-12

Hi. I've Kubuntu 8.10 64bit, freshly installed (no upgrade from previous
version). I have kde 4.1.4.
My machine is a laptop, dell xps m1530.
No external drivers, the only driver I'm using is Nvidia 180.22 installed
manually running the package from the Nvidia website.
- I've just update my kernel from 2.6.27-11 to 2.6.27-12 as Adept have notified
me...and now when I reboot I have this problem: after a quick loading of the
kubuntu logo, on the black screen appears something like this:

  *Checking battery state...
  /dev/xxx:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)

- then nothing. Just ctrl+alt+del (it remember me of windows...) and reboot
with the old kernel, luckily I still have it.
- I really can't understand why they update so often the kernel when there is
the risk (real, as seen) to have an unbootable system after an update. I think
of the normal-medium user who want to try linux as a stable system. I think
this is quite worrying.
+ EDIT: exactly the same message appears with the new kernel 2.6.27-13
+
+ then nothing. Just ctrl+alt+del (it remember me of windows...) and reboot
with the old kernel, luckily I still have it.
+ I have removed my proposed repository now, to avoid I hope this problem, but
I think to report this bug is important.
  Thank you
