[Bug 344678] [NEW] samba password create error after user has been deleted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba I think I have found a problem with deleting users in samba/ubuntu. It seems it 'corrupts' the password file. Here is a summary : * I create a unix user called test1 * I create a samba user called test1 (both these commands work fine and i can create as many as i want) * I delete the samba user * I delete the unix user (both these commands work fine) * I create a unix user called test2 (this command works fine) * I create a samba user called test2 (This command fails with this error: Unable to modify TDB passwd: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL! Failed to add entry for user test2. Failed to modify password entry for user test2 ) It seems that as soon as I delete the unix user, I can't write the tdb passwords anymore. You should be able to delete and create users at will. Another note, is if I remove samba and reinstall it. I still can't create any samba users. BUT, if i uninstall samba, remove all the files in /var/lib/samba/ and reinstall, I can start the above process again. I have attached a text file will all the commands that I run and their results. [Bug 292791] Re: silent login/gdm failures and sudo segfaults with smbpasswd enabled
Hello! At first i've started having segfaults when trying to sudo, then i've restarted my machine and could not login at all. To solve this i've entered recovery mode, opened the root prompt and used this command apt-get purge -y samba samba-common samba-client libpam-smbpass apt- get install -y samba libpam-smbpass. The problem its gone, but now i have another error: when i log using gdm, after entering my password, a dialog box appears with the word Error! and a OK button, and when i click OK the system starts just fine. Also, when trying to sudo, i get an Error, but it still works. Yet also, there is the app System-Administration-Users and Groups which have a error: when trying to unlock it, it locks the window for some seconds, then appears with the dialog box: Coud not authenticate - An unexpected error has occured with a Close button. When closing it, the window locks and freezes, and the Wait or Force Close dialog appears. [Bug 306706] Re: bind9 should flush the DNS cache on suspend / resume to avoid stale records
The answers given by the DNS have a TTL, and will automatically be flushed when they are no longer valid. Arbitrarily flushing the cache for everyone is not correct behavior. What I would suggest doing instead (in your case) is changing the reconfig to a restart in /etc/network/if-up.d/bind9, which will flush the cache instead of just noticing IP address changes - it's being on the different network that is causing you to live in another view (I hope). lamont ** Changed in: bind9 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = LaMont Jones (lamont) Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: bind9 (Debian) Status: New = Invalid -- bind9 should flush the DNS cache on suspend / resume to avoid stale records https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306706 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bind9 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 344670] [NEW] Freeze during upgrade, now gdm unusable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: aptitude Note: I am running from my Windows partition, so I cannot execute the commands to get, for example, precise version numbers. Also, because I cannot access system logs or anything, I will try to recount my steps from memory. 1) I was running Jaunty Alpha 5, trying to do a dist-upgrade after Alpha 6 was released 2) Aptitude was whatever version that was available for the Alpha 5 (I last ran a package update about a week ago (early-mid March 2009)) 3) I noticed that scim-bridge crashed when I was using gvim, and I tried to report the crash. The crash reporting tool said it could not complete because packages were out of date. I tried doing aptitude update followed by aptitude dist-upgrade. It said it would download many different package upgrades, and installing would take around 100Mb. I continued with the upgrade. The upgrade process downloaded all the packages fine. I expected it to then install and configure the updated packages without a problem. 4) ...Instead, it got about halfway (sorry I don't know what it failed on) and the screen froze. At the time I was running Firefox and Pidgin in addition to the terminal running the upgrade process. I used ctrl- alt-left_arrow to change desktops, and when it arrived on the other desktop, everything became unresponsive. The keyboard did nothing, the mouse cursor did not move. I waited a couple minutes, and nothing changed, so I hard-reset the computer by pressing the power button for 5-seconds. When the computer restarted, it failed to load gdm, so I was presented with a console screen. I ran a few commands, such as dpkg --configure -a and aptitude upgrade, which seemed to continue installing where the failed upgrade left off, but at the end it said there were many errors. After restarting again, gdm still would not load. I couldn't even use vim to analyze config files. Both gdm and vim crashed, saying Bus Error (core dumped). I tried restarting in recovery mode, running the dpkg fixing tool (whatever that does), updating grub, fixing the display, etc.. Then resumed startup. No gdm. I restarted again, and now there were two kernel choices instead of 1. I tried both, and no luck. Fortunately I left an old, dusty Windows Vista partition on the drive, which booted fine. I am writing this bug report from that Vista partition. A few more details: I'm running on a Lenovo Thinkpad x61t tablet I was using ext4 on both the / and /home partitions I started using Jaunty from Alpha 4 I'm sorry that I'm not going to leave the broken Ubuntu installation on my drive for further analysis. I need to use this laptop for school and other tasks, so I'm going to do a fresh install of Jaunty Alpha 6. This is why I was trying to be very thorough in my process description. Hopefully this problem does not affect other users. ** Affects: aptitude (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Freeze during upgrade, now gdm unusable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344670 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 342990] Re: stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse.
Ok let me make it more clear. The bug isn't that stopping dbus logs a desktop user out. The bug is that the desktop computer is now USELESS. You have to reboot it (if sshing isn't an option). This is a regression from ubuntu 8.10. It is a real bug. I can stop hal on my debian lenny system (no logout), not sure about 8.10 atm , will check later. Point is the system can still run without dbus. If dbus is that important then if dbus ever stops running, it should be relaunched no ? [Bug 344673] [NEW] wrong /dev/eventX permissions for force feedback devices
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev This wasn't a problem before 2.6.28, because force feedback for HID devices was missing in ubuntu kernel. But now that will become a problem. d...@dmig-desktop:~$ ll /dev/input/ ... crw-rw 1 root root 13, 64 2002-01-22 04:57 event0 crw-rw 1 root root 13, 65 2002-01-22 04:57 event1 crw-rw 1 root root 13, 66 2002-01-22 04:57 event2 crw-rw 1 root root 13, 67 2002-01-22 04:57 event3 crw-rw 1 root root 13, 68 2002-01-22 04:57 event4 crw-rw 1 root root 13, 69 2002-01-22 04:57 event5 ... As you may see, all devices are owned by root. This will prevent anyone else from using FF. E.g. device event5 is a gamepad supporting force feedback, then id's node must have group set to 'plugdev' (or some other). Here is a message from linux-input maillist about this situation: I've read the documentation about force feedback in Documentation/input/ff.txt. But I'm rather unsure how to use it actually. So far I understood this you have to use /dev/input/eventX to access your ff- device. But normally only root has read and write access to this device files, while a joystick is used normally using /dev/input/jsX which can be used by a non-root user. So my actual question is: How can I use force feedback of a joystick without setting global read/write permissions to /dev/input/eventX? The distribution should configure joystick eventX devices to either have global read/write access, or read/write access for one group (which the user is in), or have it chown the device to logged-in user, depending on distribution conventions. One can identify joystick devices from other eventX devices with udev variable ENV{ID_CLASS}=joystick, or with existence of /dev/input/by- path/*-event-joystick, which is a symlink to the eventX device. On Mandriva Linux, permissions are granted to logged-in user with pam_console / ConsoleKit, with /dev/input/by-path/*-event-joystick. ** Affects: udev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- wrong /dev/eventX permissions for force feedback devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344673 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

At a certain point (i attach a descriptive screenshot image) rythm not play a track but loop continuously (not play simply goes up and down on tracks like scanning) on songs that already are played and marks them with a stop sign. Lastly i must close and restart rythmbox. It's here a command that enables log meanwhile that strange thing happens?(i won't make log meanwhile rythm works fine but only when strange thins happens). I thing 2min it's enough) on a good causal candidate(Chris Pureka have only 2 songs available ). I have still noticed that rhytm start looping when an artist (in that case Chris Pureka with only 2 songs) has finisced their songs(almost in free last.fm one can't hear the same artist infinitely or when he want. [Bug 344664] Re: brightness flashes if at max whenever volume changes
This happens to me with the latest version of notify-osd 0.9.5-0ubuntu1 But this happens because right now, due to bug 343553, brightness notifications are treated as asynchronous notifications, rather than synchronous. When this bug is fixed, volume brightness won't appear at the same time. I still prefer not set it as invalid, just in case it is related to a corner case that it is worth having a look. ** Changed in: notify-osd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low Status: New = Confirmed -- brightness flashes if at max whenever volume changes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344664 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 295912] Re: mouse/keyboard events getting delayed in games
Got same problems when installed Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop. The evdev interface seems to have some problems, it is only related to mouse/keyboard, I do not know if it matter what are they (Logitech Bluetooth Desktop 5000). My library that work with input devices stopped processing mouse/keyboard event as actually no events are read from opened event device file descriptor. On the other hand my 2 joysticks (joystick, gamepad) are both working as expected. Earlier I had Ubuntu 8.04 Server installed and there were no such problems, all devices were readable. ::ioctl does return device setting and etc. but ::read does not read any events from keyboard or mouse, I assumed is there possibility that some of core parts of Ubuntu did EVIOCGRAB on these devices, this could be a cause for such behavior. All devices including succesful joystics are read by single method: template class _TyInput static inline uint32 read_events(CDeviceNixLX::xctrl_t *device, _TyInput *events, uint32 count) { const int read_total = ::read(device-xobj, events, (count * sizeof(_TyInput))); if (read_total 0) { ... -- mouse/keyboard events getting delayed in games https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295912 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 268502] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work (hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout)
My comment was for Stefan Bader, who built the kernel based on Brian Roger's patch. Since the patched kernel is for Intrepid, I can't test it in Jaunty, which also features this issue. -- Bluetooth doesn't work (hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 344681] [NEW] cone using gamin or ibfam0 ?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cone in hardy and gutsy, cone dependencies list libfam0. But if you've got lighttpd (or any other things that depend on gamin ) installed, then libfam0 will not be installed since it conflicts with libfam0. Does it work ok with gamin ? Please include that info in the package description. It took me a while before I realize why one machine use libfam0 with a daemon sitting in a background and another machine running exactly same thing doesn't. This is the same on hardy or intrepid. ** Affects: cone (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- cone using gamin or ibfam0 ? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 343940] Re: murrine needs update to 0.90.0 (diff.gz attached)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 344154 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344154 @Khashay: Thanks for your work and makin ubuntu better. Can you please next time go to #ubuntu-desktop on freenode for all desktop related stuff? We centralized the work there. We are also using bzr for packaging, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/Bzr. Just a few remarks about your update: - we generally don't bump the standard version, this is extra diff with debian for nothing. - if you look at upstream changelog, it is mentionned that libgtk2.0-dev should be 2.16.0 (even if it's not in configure.in file) - I think you didn't add a debian watch (there was already one), but adapt it the right location. Good for removing quilt as there is no patch, didn't see that. Have a look at bug 344154, I mentionned the work I merge from yours in the changelog. I close this bug as duplicated so that status can be synchronized.
