[Bug 348627] Re: motd disappears when using PasswordAuthentication in OpenSSH server

2009-03-26 Thread karloskar
It seemed to be the UsePAM setting that made it.
When UsePAM is returned to the default 'yes' everything is fine.
For some reason (a tutorial on slicehost.com :-)) I set the UsePAM to 'no'
without knowing why.

Maybe this isn't the right place to explain why that happened but if
anyone would like to do that feel free to contact me.

[Bug 271777] Re: Exit status 127 when starting openvpn when its already started.

2009-03-26 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hardy SRU Report

Bug impact: When openvpn is already started, trying to start it using
the init script results in exit status 127. This can impact heartbeat
deployments as mentionned in comment 5.

Versions affected: Hardy (openvpn initscript was rewritten in Intrepid)

Minimal patch: see comment 6 just above.

TEST CASE:
$ sudo apt-get install openvpn
Unpack the attached vpnconf.tar.gz into /etc/openvpn
$ sudo /etc/init.d/openvpn restart (should start the server VPN)
$ sudo /etc/init.d/openvpn start
Without the fix, fails with /etc/init.d/openvpn: 181: STATUS: not found and
exit status 127
With the fix, warns with server (FAILED - Already running (PID file exists).)
and exits with status 0

Regression potential:
Given the simplicity of the patch, regression potential is null. Nobody should
have been relying on exit code 127 which was the result of a failed bash
variable assignment.

[Bug 265058] Re: [SRU] openvpn2.1~rc7 fails to pick up the CN of certificates

2009-03-26 Thread Thierry Carrez
OK, I've spent a fair amount of time trying to reproduce that issue with
2.1~rc7-1ubuntu3.3.
CCD are working great. tls-remote is working great.

I've a setup with

tls-remote client
client-config-dir ccd
and a ccd/client script that pushes a specific route

Connecting with a certificate with CN=client works and pulls the right route
from ccd/client.
So I just can't reproduce the bug, and without more help from the reporter I
would abandon that SRU.

[Bug 134080] Re: Navigating directories for DFS shares buggy

[Bug 348990] [NEW] Deinstallation doesn't delete all files

2009-03-26 Thread Ante Karamatić
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

On purge/delete, postfix package leaves /var/lib/postfix behind. In this
directory file master.lock is owned by postfix's UID. When removed,
postfix leaves this file and directory. If some other system user is
created after that and postfix is reinstalled then, postfix won't start
(master.lock will be owned by that other system user).

Anyway, package should remove all its files on purge.

[Bug 343357] Re: Errors on file append on CIFS mounted Apple Time Capsule

2009-03-26 Thread Thierry Carrez
Thanks for reporting this bug !

After some research, Apple Time Capsule is implementing its own CIFS
server, with lots of issues. On a similar kind of issue, James Peach, an
Apple developer working on the Samba project, recommended[1] following
this procedure:

Go to http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/ and log a bug against
the TIme Capsule. It would be best to attach a packet trace to the bug.
Follow the instructions here:
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Capture_Packets

This is probably not a bug in Ubuntu Samba since only Time Capsule shows
this behavior. I'll mark this bug as Invalid : if Apple can point back
to an issue in the Samba client side, please feel free to reopen this
bug !

[Bug 216358] Re: Samba crashes repeatedly to assert_uid

I've installed the files from https://launchpad.net/~ttx/+archive/ppa

completely inaccessible from my Ubuntu desktop running gnome. Are there
any other race conditions that should be avoided?

My trace seems a bit different from the original bug post, as there are
a few other system calls involved, namely unbecome_root(), gid_to_sid()
and maybe more:

[Bug 305264] Re: gnutls regression: failure in certificate chain validation

2009-03-26 Thread star26bsd
Even though the issue has been reported as 'fixed' I am still facing
this problem with an OpenBSD OpenLDAP server:

# ldapsearch -x -b 'dc=ini,dc=uzh,dc=ch' uid=stephan -H ldap://ldap.ini.uzh.ch
-ZZ -d1
...

TLS: peer cert untrusted or revoked (0x42)
ldap_err2string
ldap_start_tls: Connect error (-11)

I've tried on Hardy and Intrepid with the same results. I tried
specifing TLS_CACERT with no luck.

A openSUSE 11.0 clients works out of the box, though.

[Bug 216358] Re: Samba crashes repeatedly to assert_uid

2009-03-26 Thread Paul Dufresne
Thanks anders for that new piece of information.

Could you give the output of 'dpkg -l | grep samba' just to be sure that
you are running the patch version?

This seems to confirmed that the new version does fix Asynchronous I/O
result, but not the fact that setreSuid results in EAGAIN error. That
said, like I said, stopping samba on an EAGAIN error without retrying
seems wrong.

I don't think we can consider that getting an EAGAIN is a linux kernel bug.
OTOH I guess we could, because it did not seems to do this in the past.

[Bug 216358] Re: Samba crashes repeatedly to assert_uid

2009-03-26 Thread Thierry Carrez
Anders: thanks for testing !

Apparently my packages do not change anything :/

That might mean bug 341816 is not a duplicate of this one, I'll follow up on
that one separately.
The problem here is probably a similar one, but does not involve AIO code.

[Bug 216358] Re: Samba crashes repeatedly to assert_uid

2009-03-26 Thread Anders Paulsen
I posted this output in my previous post, but it was lost inside the
Read more... link :)

~$ dpkg -l | grep samba
ii samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.9~ppa1
ii samba-common 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.9~ppa1
ii samba-dbg 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.9~ppa1

I've looked through the emails i got with the samba panic/segfault messages,
and as far as I can see, they haven't changed after i installed the package
from the PPA, which leads me to believe this is a different issue than the one
this bug was originally about.
The file included in the report, however, seems to be random, but is always a
file in the root directory of the share (in this case ad3.odt).

#13 0x080ab18d in is_visible_file (conn=0x85602b8, dir_path=0x8503d30 ./,
name=0x8579efb ad39a.odt, pst=0xbf804974, use_veto=1)
at smbd/dir.c:897

Is there any more information you need from me, or anything else i could
do to help out more?

[Bug 305264] Re: gnutls regression: failure in certificate chain validation

2009-03-26 Thread Howard Chu
Mathias, in regards to the wiki you linked above, my preference when
debugging these issues is to recommend debug level 7, which includes
packet traces, instead of debug 1. It's much better (to me) to be able
to see all the traffic, which includes the raw transfer of certificates
and their DER DNs, when tracking down TLS problems.

[Bug 216358] Re: Samba crashes repeatedly to assert_uid

2009-03-26 Thread Paul Dufresne
Thanks Anders, I should have seen this Read more... link.

For me, this helps to know if samba logs have the following line:
setresuid failed with EAGAIN.

But the latest ppa1 version probably won't do that, you'd have to revert
to plain samba first.

And the Samba log are many files by default because of the:
   log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
inside /etc/samba/smb.conf file.

Removing .%m at the end should allow to put all messages in one file,
which could make it easier to grep EAGAIN on it.

The idea is that this give a clue as if it have failed for permissions
errors (no EAGAIN), or because of EAGAIN error, which is much more
harder to understand why.

But as current code, only show this #if USE_SETRESUID
then not seeing EAGAIN message is not that much a clear information.

Slightly rewriting that part could help a lot I guess.
I am not too used to that kind of programming, but I guess I could try to write
a little patch that would help to pinpoint the problem. (without really fixint
it... although it could fix it).

[Bug 339966] Re: dangerous action: dovecot-postfix force-installs new conf file

2009-03-26 Thread Ante Karamatić
This patch covers all situations I could think off:
- install of dovecot-postfix on top of already working dovecot and postfix
  - removing dovecot-postfix in this case would bring back configuration of
postfix from before installation and would rename dovecot-postfix.conf, so that
real dovecot.conf would be used
- removing dovecot-postfix doesn't delete user made changes, but it does remove
postfix-dovecot integration (postfix's configuration is reset to the state
before the package was installed)
  - on reinstall of dovecot-postfix user made changes are returned and diff
against default configuration is provided to the user; integration is back again
- purging dovecot-postfix removes all dovecot related configuration from
dovecot-postfix package and resets postfix's configuration to the state before
the package was installed
- upgrade of dovecot-postfix

[Bug 348160] Re: libmagick10 transition to libmagickcore1

2009-03-26 Thread fabrice_sp
Hi,

To keep the debdiff smaller, I would definitively drop quilt, and modify the
source directly (that's what I've been requested to do for another bug report).
Also, why did you change autotrace.install ? It seems to install fine without
your change.
Other changes seems fine to me.
If you want some clarification, I'm on irc (#ubuntu-motu), and we can chat ;-)
Thanks!

[Bug 348823] [NEW] Animated GIFs don't animate in KHTML in Jaunty

2009-03-26 Thread D. Brodzik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

When I go to an website that has animated GIFs, like
http://harrythecat.com/dorret/index.php?option=com_contenttask=viewid=76Itemid=167
using Konquerer with the KHTML backend, the animated GIFs don't animate,
even if animations are fully enabled in the configuration. Animations do
animate fine in Gwenview. I've been told on the KDE IRC channel that
this is due to Qt 4.5.

I'm in Kubuntu Jaunty beta, with all updates applied.

[Bug 335278] Re: new downloaded email shows wrong content

2009-03-26 Thread Jure Ložar
I have the same problem since today. I did not update for at least a
couple of days, Thunderbird version is 2.0.0.21 (20090318) on Kubuntu
8.04. I have no extensions.

Using ISP for mail, his pop3 and imap servers (pop3.amis.net,
smtp.amis.net)

First mail I downloaded just showed wrong content (it's probably the
first mail I received on this account, from 2004). I sent a couple of
tests to myself, all show the same old wrong content.

Registration mail for this site got downloaded 4 times, although on
webmail there is only 1 copy. I did however pressed get mail button 6 or
7 times (every 5-10 sec). And even that failed to show for approx. 1
min, until high disk activity stopped. All 4 mails show the same content
- that same old mail, that i do not even seem to have anymore.

I'm not out of disk space (over 10 G free).

AND - after approx. 10 minutes, mail I receive is GONE from thunderbird.
Not is trash, just gone. I have no filters that could do that (no rules
match that regular mail I got, test mails I sent to myself, and
Launchpad - complete your registration mails. Only have 3 Launcpad mails
left right now...

[Bug 348825] [NEW] Entire application hangs, incl. firefox while installing flash player and it cannot be installed.

2009-03-26 Thread Api
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Hi All,

While using Firefox in Ubuntu, I am facing this bug time n again. I need
to install flash player (to view various webpages like youtube, etc.)
and a link called click to download additional plug-ins is coming.
Whenever I'm clicking on the link and trying to install the flash player
nothing is happening and firefox is not responding. So I have to opt for
a force quit.

I tried installing the same through add/remove option after downloading
Linux-version of flash player. Then also the same thing prevails. I have
to opt for force-quit.

Hence, in either case I'm unable to install flash player which I need
very urgently.

Pl. look into it and suggest a fruitful way out.

Regards,
Api.

[Bug 348639] Re: typos in failsafeXinit

2009-03-26 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Having just looked at your Git commits, you still haven’t addressed
Kees’s comment:

“I would also note that mktmp is a typo of mktemp. Rather than using
/tmp explicitly, the -t argument is recommended. i.e. mktemp -t
xorg.conf.”

or my repeated security concern:

“Finally, are you SURE that a malicious user can’t gain any kind of
unauthorized access by editing xorg.conf?”

Less importantly, the line “cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf ${xorg_conf_tmp}” is
now redundant because ${xorg_conf_tmp} is overwritten by the following
zenity command.

I don't see that there's anything here that needs to be documented in

[Bug 59331] Re: Network problem since kernel-2.6.17

2009-03-26 Thread indusboy
I am struggling with this issue on Hardy Heron (8.04). Kernel version
2.6.24-23. Tried all the workarounds mentioned in the comments including adding
the following lines to sysctl.conf:
net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling=0
net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096 16384 131072
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 87380 174760

Turning off ipv6.

Nothing seems to help.

[Bug 24234] Re: apt-get update failing with bad signature.

2009-03-26 Thread Jonathan Harker
sudo apt-get update:

So, to fix this:

Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring

But

sudo apt-get update

and even

sudo apt-get update -o Acquire::http::No-Cache=true

Still return errors.

This is driving me nuts. What is going on?

2009-03-26 Thread Mike Javorski
Public bug reported:

When resuming from memory-suspend my system sometimes sends me back to a

happens about 50% of the time.

ProblemType: KernelOops

resuming properly.

[Bug 343128] Re: Noisy fan after resume on HP 6735s (reproducibility about 20%)

2009-03-26 Thread Icek
I have the same notebook and the same problem. I don't thing it has
anything to do with linux, look here
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1298279
, it looks like bios bug to me.

Re: [Bug 276990] Re: iwlagn causes kernel panic on 802.11n wifi

2009-03-26 Thread JDahl
Do you mean that it is fixed in the updates for Ubuntu 8.10? I still
experience frequent crashes
after installing all the proposed kernel updates for 8.10.

Steve Langasek skrev:
This issue was documented in the 8.10 release notes; closing this task.

[Bug 341363] Re: [i945GME] drm:i915_getparam *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6

2009-03-26 Thread dentaku65
I confirm this error too on my Intel 82852/855GM with alpha 6 and kernel
2.6.28-11-generic, same package situation reported by Andy.
With this error/scenario it's impossible to use compiz (does not load at all),
was working perfectly with the previously lidrm and/or intel driver packages.

[Bug 347525] Re: [jaunty] Please package ec2-api-tools for i386

2009-03-26 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hmm, i386 packages are built and delivered through the archive:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/i386/ec2-api-tools/1.3.34128-0ubuntu2
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/multiverse/e/ec2-api-tools/

Could you please describe in more detail what makes you think they
aren't ?

[Bug 346369] Re: We can't make sense of the strings to translate

2009-03-26 Thread Bruno Patri
Hi Michael, the tinurl doesn't work any more because one string has
changed since the bug report.

The first string was :

Do not focus on map when starting

We found an explanation about focus-on-map in Gnome's devlopper doc :

Setting focus_on_map to FALSE hints the desktop environment that the
window doesn't want to receive input focus when it is mapped.
focus_on_map should be turned off for windows that aren't triggered
interactively (such as popups from network activity).

and the other string was (this one has been changed since the bug
report, and that's quite obvious now) :

Sandbox upgrade using aufs
