[Bug 354243] [NEW] Nautilus fails to browse any share on network to which Iomega Home Network Hard Drive (MDHD500-N, firmware K108.W15) is attached.

2009-04-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Nautilus fails to browse any share on network to which Iomega Home
Network Hard Drive (MDHD500-N, firmware K108.W15) is attached.

Might be 209520 or 296673 - but this should make diagnosis easier.

Reproduced bug using Ubuntu i386 distribution disks for 7.10, 8.04,
8.04.2, 8.10 and 9.04 beta - in other word, standard Ubuntu
configuration. The Iomega NAS had immediately prior had a firmware
upgrade with subsequent hard reset. This should be reproducible by
maintainers.

The Iomega server is SAMBA or SAMBA-like, with a rudimentary html
interface. It is normal for end users to not have control over all
server settings in many situations, so this is still a gvfs bug.

As with similar bugs, all SAMBA shares are reported correctly with
findsmb and smbclient, and can be mounted using smb4k.

[Bug 354243] Re: Nautilus fails to browse any share on network to which Iomega Home Network Hard Drive (MDHD500-N, firmware K108.W15) is attached.

2009-04-04 Thread Stephen D Kamm
Just want to make sure it's understood that smbtree doesn't browse the
share when run under specific conditions outlined above - particularly
the fact that it was in a live CD session. Under my current, evolving
(implementing work-arounds) configuration, smbtree does produce output,
listed below.

Are there bad interactions among multiple SAMBA servers that cannot be
isolated to configuration of single server? Given that many network
devices use embedded SAMBA servers, shouldn't Nautilus, hence gvfs, be
extremely robust in browsing and mounting shares?

I post the following (from current, not-controlled-experiment
configuration), noting the LANMAN error message, and hoping extraneous
information does not muddy diagnosis; but stand by previous experimental
results - Iomega NAS should have been browse-able from a live CD
session, and was not:

2009-04-04 Thread Jakob Unterwurzacher
Public bug reported:

This is at Dapper.

The bug:
/var/run/munin (Munin's lock directory) is on tmpfs, so it obiously does not
persist across reboots. It is not recreated by the cron job. This makes the
munin-update cron job spit these errors:
--
readline() on closed filehandle LOCK at /usr/share/perl5/Munin.pm line 396.
Use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//) at /usr/share/perl5/Munin.pm
line 397.

Workaround: After *every* reboot do:
mkdir /var/run/munin chown munin /var/run/munin

[Bug 354972] [NEW] apt-transport-https: large packages timeout after 120s, even while progress is being made

2009-04-04 Thread Steve Beattie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

As part of testing, I am occasionally installing large packages from
private-ppas on launchpad, which makes use of https and apt-transport-
https. While doing so, I get timeouts like the following:

  Get:1 https://private-ppa.launchpad.net hardy/main PACKAGE 9.1.0-6 [63.4MB]
  Err https://private-ppa.launchpad.net hardy/main PACKAGE 9.1.0-6
Operation timed out after 12 milliseconds with 13942784 out of 63370760
bytes received
  Failed to fetch
https://ID:passw...@private-ppa.launchpad.net/PROJECT/ubuntu/pool/main/P/PACKAGE/PACKAGE_9.1.0-6_i386.deb
Operation timed out after 12 milliseconds with 13942784 out of 63370760
bytes received
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with
--fix-missing?

Manually wget'ing the package and installing succeeds, and I also do not
see similar timeouts when downloading (asbsurdly) large packages over
http.

Looking at the source code, in methods/https.cc we have the following
code:

   // set timeout
   int timeout = _config-FindI(Acquire::http::Timeout,120);
   curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_TIMEOUT, timeout);
   curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT, timeout);

Quoting the curl_easy_setopt(3) manpage:

   CURLOPT_TIMEOUT
Pass a long as parameter containing the maximum time in seconds
that you allow the libcurl transfer operation to take.

Note that it's not a timeout of inactivity, it's just a maximum time the
transfer can take. This does not match the behavior of method/http.cc
where HttpMethod::Go sets the same timeout value on a select() call on
any of the open filedescriptors; this only gets triggered if none of the
connections make any progress by the timeout time.

It seems to me that the http and https behaviors ought to be made
consistent, or else the https method ought to honor a separate
Acquire::https::Timeout setting.

  and now KDE works.

How do I get nvidia working again?

as mentioned above I tried to get the older driver from

This driver installs against kernel .28 and works without problems !
(WPA/WPA2 encryption)

The problem seems not to be one of network-manager, but one of the
Ralink-driver. What has happened between the versions 1.8.0.0 and
1.7.1.1 ???

Have a nice day !

Re: [Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust

2009-04-04 Thread Gumby
The bug is back. The edit in rc.local fixed it for 2-1/2 weeks, but
today the old fast-repeat misbehavior has returned on my USB keyboard,
but not on the laptop's built-in keyboard.

I checked rc.local and my fix is still there, has not disappeared.

I am using Mint 6.0

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” source package in Ubuntu: Fix Released

 Bug description:
go to System Preferences Keyboard General

The controls under Repeat Keys are failing to properly adjust the timing of
how fast keys are repeated when held down.

I filed under gnome, but a person there thinks its an xorg bug in ubuntu:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org show_bug.cgi?id=550242 It has become quite
clear that this is a problem with the xorg-evdev driver, and intrepids new
 hotplug architecture.

Here is a workaround for this:

Temporarily add the following to your xorg.conf:
 Section ServerFlags
 Option AutoAddDevices off
 EndSection

Restart X, and you will be able to change the settings. Once changed, you
can remove those lines from your xorg.conf (which is recommended since
setting AutoAddDevices to off can interfere with your keyboard)

Another (and possibly better) workaround is to set the repeat rate manually,
 see this comment for directions:

[Bug 353958] Re: Cannot add a sound mixer applet

2009-04-04 Thread Vivien Taillandier
I read the ~/.xsession-errors but nothing concerning the mixer-applet.
Since I don't know how to use gdb, could you tell me how to do it ?

I tried to figure out the command-line to show the applets-dialog, and I found
the panel-test-applets.
When clicking on Execute with the applet OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet, the
application froze, whereas the others shows a little applet (like the
trash-applet)

I hope I'll be more helpful on my next comment !

[Bug 303769] Re: Ubuntu forgets” my key board layout sometimes

2009-04-04 Thread michaelhhh
I have a similar problem too. I am using a German keyboard layout and
after a while its still a German keyboard (like with Umlauts still
working) but AltGr keys dont work anymore. AltGr-Q should give @ (hard
to live without), but then it gives q. Same for other keys, no | anymore
(just gives ).

If I select any other keyboard in the GNOME config layout, and then go
back to my old, it works angain - for a while. But I am talking about
e.g. Generic 105 vs. Generic 101 keyboard layout - as I have removed all
other layouts but plain German.

Unfortunately, Iave not figured out yet what makes it switch to this odd
and unusable German keyboard layout without AltGR.

Michael, sorry, I haven't had time to reproduce it. Do note that it
occurred in a vm that started from 6.06 install media - 6.06 + updates -

However, (IIRC) I only saw the question asked about the vimrc.tiny file
on the 8.10 - 9.04 transition.

I do have snapshots of my vm at the various upgrade points, so when I
get a chance, I can examine things at each step of the way. Thanks!

Re: [Bug 342840] Re: pressed suspend, looked ok to me.[To Be Filled By O.E.M. To Be Filled By O.E.M.] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-04 Thread cdyring
Hi Leann,

Actually, it seemed to suspend ok, but when I restarted, it presented the
usual login screen and then a serious error during suspend appeared in the
notification area after login.

However, I am using a stationary computer, not a laptop. Maybe that is
why.

It seems to happen every time, as it just happenen again when I tried
now.

I never (purposefully) use the suspend function, but let me know if I can
help. I am not an expert on linux.

best regards
Claus

 Hi cdyring,

Just to clarify, suspend/resume worked as expected for you? If so, I'd
classify this as a false bug report apport triggered. Please let us
 know. Thanks.

[Bug 352373] Re: [jaunty] System randomly freezes, sometimes flashing capslock light

2009-04-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Yes, as additional information is proven out, it is usually useful to
fix both the title and description. This can help prevent other users
from getting confused and think they have the same issue as you, when
they do not. (Or conversely can help bug workers notice if your bug is
a dupe to a known issue.)

While caps lock flashing is an almost certain indication of a kernel
problem, not flashing does not mean it is not a kernel problem. Many
non-X kernel crashes/lockups/etc. don't show themselves with flashing
caps lock. Thus my curiosity that you moved it back to X.

For kernel bugs, usually you look in dmesg, /var/log/syslog, and other
log files to locate an error message.

Fwiw, the word randomly in a bug report usually is a good sign that
the issue has not been adequately analyzed. When filing a good bug
report you should always strive to boil the problem down such that you
do not need to use that word, much as you wouldn't tell your doctor,
Doctor, I feel pains randomly through my body... ;-)

Obviously it's an issue with VirtualBox. After changing line 415 in the
installation file of the GuestAdditions of VirtualBox 2.1.4 from 1.6 to
1.6.* , everything works fine now.

The problems with VirtualBox 2.0.0 Beta mentionned above seemes to be
quite an other issue.

[Bug 354990] [NEW] Nautilus should recommend installing Packagekit on unknown files

2009-04-04 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: packagekit

On Jaunty beta, double-clicking a file with an unknown association, e.g.
Microsoft's CHM format pops up the following message.

There is no application installed for CHM document files. Do you want
to search for an application to open this file?

Upon clicking yes however the following cryptic error is thrown:

There was an internal error trying to search for applications:
The name org.freedesktop.PackageKit was not provided by any .service files

While I understand that this means that the Packagekit service needs to
be installed, the error message should be changed to something more
user-friendly, or like how Ubuntu offers to install non-free codecs,
automatically prompt to install Packagekit to continue this use case.

[Bug 354987] [NEW] unable to import security certificate in firefox 3.0.8 x86_64

The certificate was accepted in firefox in intrepid and it's prefectly usable

2009-04-04 Thread Kimr1508
Just wanted to add that the same brightness issues can be found on a
Acer 5315 laptop running Jaunty beta.

Adjusting volume work fine using the fn keys, but brightness does not.
The brightness OSD appears but I cannot change the brightness.

Changing the brightness using the gnome brightness applet works fine a
side from that it's very flickery (like its is starting at dark level
and then jumping to the new lighter brightness level every time I make
the brightness lighter, so it goes from dark - lighter1 - dark -
lighter2 - dark - lighter3 - dark - lighter4)

when resolving bufmgr_gem-fd.

2009-04-04 Thread FloX
This bug may be fixed in the package hal -
0.5.12~rc1+git20090403-0ubuntu1

---
hal (0.5.12~rc1+git20090403-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Update to current git HEAD to collect some more bug fixes:
- Fix volume label parsing (directly committed upstream) (LP: #347370)
- Regenerate FDI cache if it's zero sized
- Fix handling of floppy and MO discs.
- Fix various memory leaks and unused pointers.
- Fix linking against libsmbios.
- Allow specifying a udev dir in etc (Fedora still has udev rules dir in
  /etc)
  * debian/rules: Update --with-udev-prefix according to above upstream
change.
  * Drop 86_smbios_configure_error.patch, applied upstream.
