[Bug 371829] Re: [merge request] please merge drbd8 8.3.1-1 (main) from debian unstable (main)
OK, Andres. Last debdiff also isn't good. What you should do is: 1) grab package with grab-merge script. 2) revert the change in drbd/linux/drbd.h file (so that the source is the same as debian's): -# define CN_IDX_DRBD 0x6 +# define CN_IDX_DRBD 0x4 3) use dpatch system to create a patch which will introduce this change in drbd/linux/drbd.h: -# define CN_IDX_DRBD 0x4 +# define CN_IDX_DRBD 0x6 The idea is to have the source package of the drbd8 in Ubuntu in the same state as in Debian. With use of dpatch we can contain all the changes to the source inside debian sudirectory. Second thing that's wrong is that your debiff removes Debian's changes from changelog. That's wrong. All the changes Debian did in the package should be presented in Ubuntu. (speaking as mentor) Consider this merge a bit complicated, but it will enable you to learn how to use dpatch, if you haven't before. I could guide you on IRC. -- [merge request] please merge drbd8 8.3.1-1 (main) from debian unstable (main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to drbd8 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Re: [Bug 326768] Re: mysqld_safe thinks mysqld has crashed when it hasn't
There are two problems at stake here actually: 1) something is sending HUP to mysqld_safe. That's not been determined yet. Clearly it's some root process that is doing it. It can't be mythbackend because it doesn't run as root. 2) mysqld_safe is not properly handling the HUP. When the trap goes off, it's supposed to mearly send a refresh command to mysqld. Here's what's actually happening: 1) essentially, mysqld wait is running So mysqld is running in the background, and the bash script is blocked by the wait command. 2) the trap comes in and causes wait to exit status 128 3) the refresh is issued to mysqld 3) the bash script continues and runs kill -9 mysqld So, the logic that's INTENDED by the patch isn't working. [Bug 326768] Re: mysqld_safe thinks mysqld has crashed when it hasn't
Mathias, i can trigger this problem on my laptop which is *not* running mythbackend by simply issuing 'sudo killall -HUP mysqld_safe'. So it's not related to MythTV. In fact, if you issue 'mysqladmin refresh' as done by mysqld_safe when it catches a SIGHUP, mysqld will *not* crash. See Mario's explanation why the patch is broken. How to break it: sudo killall -HUP mysqld_safe Expected behavior: * 'mysqladmin refresh' is run OR * nothing happens, as intended by upstream Resulting behavior: * mysqld is restarted -- mysqld_safe thinks mysqld has crashed when it hasn't https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.0 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

See this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7233888#post7233888 superm1 suggested I enable the Jaunty Proposed repository to see if it fixed this problem, it did not. I still get this in the log: May 7 12:43:01 AComputer mysqld_safe[4938]: Number of processes running now: 1 May 7 12:43:01 AComputer mysqld_safe[4946]: mysqld process hanging, pid 3191 - killed May 7 12:43:01 AComputer mysqld_safe[4949]: restarted I am running 2 HDHomerun boxes, and an ATI HD Blunder card. I have a script in rc2.d that delays mythbackend until the HDHomerun boxes can be accessed through the network. I have also been experimenting with delaying mythbackend to see if I can avoid the database problem. I currently have a 3 minute delay in the mythtv-backend script to delay the start of the backend. The msqld_safe problem tracks the start time of the backend. If I delay the backend start time by 3 minutes, the mysqld_safe problem shows up 3 minutes later in the log file. There is an advantage to the delay however, it appears that if the backend start is delayed long enough, mysqld restarts fast enough that it does not screw up the backend (4 sucessful restarts with this setup so far). You have been subscribed to a public bug: I believe this is connected to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/209520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/207072 but I'm flummoxed. Sometime in the last week, I went to open a Samba share on my desktop, one that I use almost every day, and got an error: Unable to mount location Failed to mount Windows share This is the text of cusvr.desktop [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Encoding=UTF-8 Name=CU SVR Type=Link Icon[en_US]=gnome-panel-launcher Name[en_US]=CU SVR URL=smb://{username}:{passwo...@cusvr/{share}/directory Icon=/home/amanda/Graphics/icons/little owl.ico GenericName[en_US]= The next day, it worked fine. A few days later, it stopped working and didn't seem to come back. So I started sniffing around. Per advice at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/209520 I tried editing smb.conf, though I couldn't figure out how to reload it, since there's no entry for samba or smb in my /etc/init.d/ -- I was able to connect by making a new connection in Connect to Server. The next day, Connect to Server was decidedly not working, so I tried: sudo smbmount //cusvr/{share}/ /mnt/cusvr -o username={username},password={password} Which *did* work, and once I'd mounted the share, I was able to use my desktop shortcut again. Great! This morning, I tested the desktop shortcut and it did work. Great! And then an hour later I actually needed to use it and ... nope. Now the error reads: Couldn't display smb://cusvr/share/folder. There is no application installed for this file type But it worked an hour ago! So I tried smbmount again, which worked yesterday. Today it tells me: mount error 5 = Input/output error Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs) So: this isn't working. And I can't figure out why not. Strange. I set everything back to default except I didn't use my SxxWaitForHDHomeRun script. I manually configured the network and had Network Manager shut off. I verified I was getting the problem, then applied the patch. I haven't had a single mysqld process hanging since the patch. I suppose I should reconnect network manager and see what happens. As for the 3 minute delay; I noticed adding delays in the script that start mythbackend didn't help but if I didn't launch mythbackend, boot, and manually start, it worked just fine. [Bug 373096] [NEW] [jaunty] screen brightness level on battery power unsteady and too dark
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Since I updated to from hardy to jaunty, the behavior of the screen brightness on battery power is strange. On unplugging, the overall brightness goes down (expected), but cannot be brought up to the level without battery power (unexpected). I can still use the hotkeys to adjust the brightness, but the intervall is in a lower range than on AC power. Furthermore, with a period of about one minute, the brightness goes down even further, bringing it the brightness to a level, where it is impossible to work, even with the brightness set to maximum. In the dark periods, the minimum setting seems to turn off the backlight completely, while maximum is a bit brighter, but still unusable. Then after about a minute it goes back to the brightness of only some levels below AC power, but usable, after a minute dark again and so on. A similar behavior is described in two bugs: For one bug 284550. However, in contrast to that report, I have the problem only when running on battery power. Additionally, it says in that bug report that a fix was released in gnome 2.24.4, but I still have the problem working in gnome 2.26.1. Bug 325789 describes the same behavior also only on battery power, but it claims that it doesn't occur any more in jaunty. Therefore, I decided to file a new bug report. I am working on a Samsung X20 with intel graphics chipset. btw.: how do I link other bugs? ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [jaunty] screen brightness level on battery power unsteady and too dark https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373096 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Where are the corresponding bug reports? And when was this fix commited? There was a mesa update a couple of days ago which was said to fix X server crashes. However, it removed a patch that was added at the beginning of April while I experienced crashes already at the end of March. Is this “bug” #368049 this mesa fix? If yes then it won’t help me. And it won’t help all the others who still experienced problems after this fix has gone into Jaunty a couple of days ago. -- Kubuntu freezes when desktop effects are enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351990 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275998] Re: internal mic capture very low volume when routed through pulseaudio
I just installed the alsa 1.0.20 driver on Jaunty and I now have a digital microphone control again that actually works (at least in gnome- sound-recorder - haven't tried Skype yet). Admittedly, I did it on the weekly vanilla kernel build 2.6.30.rc3, but presumably it works with the stock standard Jaunty kernel. In case anyone else wants to try it, there are sample bash scripts to download and build the drivers, eg at http://www.antonywilliams.com/2007/10/bash-script-to-automate-compiling- alsa.html, but note that you need to change it to get alsa 1.0.20 as the example script is for 1.0.15. If you scroll down someone has posted a mod that just downloads the latest alsa. Also, you need to change the target folder for Jaunty's snd-hda-intel.ko in the alsa_2 script because the sample script is for Gutsy. Instead, it should be: cp -v /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko -- internal mic capture very low volume when routed through pulseaudio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 359061] Re: warning: Screen isn't composited. Please run compiz (fusion) or another compositing manager
Had the same problem, and should it not be enough to just try to fix the compositing manager? If you run Gnome, your default window-manager is Metacity, right? On this link: http://wiki.awn- project.org/Installation#Installing_Avant_Window_Navigator I found a fix for Metacity. Metacity: The default window manager for Gnome. Compositing support was started for this WM in November 2003 (around version 2.7.0), but it has never been very stable. Because of this, it is not enabled in most distributions. Recently though, work started on a new implementation for compositing support that is in version 2.22.0 (and later). To enable the compositing manager, you need to use the Configuration Editor, AKA gconf-editor, to set the key /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager to true (i.e., the box must be checked). -- warning: Screen isn't composited.
