[Bug 227848] Re: boot order wrong for iscsi

2009-06-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package open-iscsi - 2.0.865-1ubuntu3.1

---
open-iscsi (2.0.865-1ubuntu3.1) hardy-proposed; urgency=low

  * Backport changes from jaunty to allow iscsi targets to be activated
as network interfaces come on-line:
   - debian/open-iscsi.init:
+ Support for being called from ifup/ifdown scripts.
 + Refactor start functions:
   - move daemon start to startdaemon function.
   - don't exit if the daemon is already running during sanitychecks.
Instead check in startdaemon if the daemon needs to be started.
   - only start automatic targets if necessary.
LP: #227848.

[Bug 242956] Re: Bind9 (8.04) not returning 'ad' flag when dnssec is enabled

2009-06-29 Thread Hauke Lampe

The problem lies within the libc stub resolver. I patched mine, so it always

if DNSSEC validation succeeded.

[Bug 236640] Re: iSCSI install fails under hardy

2009-06-29 Thread Etienne Goyer
As I explained a couple months earlier (see comment 2), even if the path
to iscsi-iname is fixed, it still fail in the end. The installer goes
on just fine, but if you choose to configure a file system residing on
an iSCSI target to be mounted at boot time (not as the root file system,
just about any mount point), /etc/rcS.d/S30checkfs.sh will fail at boot
and drop to a maintenance shell.

This is because the iSCSI block device is not brought up on boot
correctly, and as such the file system residing on that iSCSI target
cannot be checked/mounted. For it to be so, there need to be a valid
node configuration file under /etc/iscsi/nodes/. This configuration
file is being generated just fine by the open-iscsi udeb in the
installer environment. However, it is *not* being copied to the root
file system of the installation (/target). There are two problems:

1. The post-installation script of the udeb (debian/open-iscsi-udeb
.finish-install in the source deb) is being installed in /lib/finish-
install.d/. I think this is supposed to be /usr/lib/finish-install.d/.

2. There is a bug in debian/open-iscsi-udeb.finish-install. It copy the
whole configuration directory with:

cp -a /etc/iscsi /target/etc/iscsi

Which mean we end up with the installer iscsi configuration directory as
/etc/iscsi/iscsi in the target, which is not what we want. I presume it
should really be:

cp -a /etc/iscsi /target/etc/

So that we have the configuration from the installer environment copied over to
the target properly.

The above problems where found on both hardy and jaunty.

Moreover, there seems to be a race condition at boot time where open-iscsi is
started before networking is ready, which also prevent the iSCSI block device
to be available when /etc/rcS.d/S30checkfs.sh is being run. I am still
investigating and will report a separate bug as appropriate.

[Bug 393656] [NEW] postfix fails on boot with fatal: could not find any active network interfaces

2009-06-29 Thread a7x
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

Upon boot, postfix fails with the following in my /var/log/mail.log:

Jun 29 11:14:21 shoe postfix[2815]: fatal: could not find any active
network interfaces

Once the machine has booted, I can run sudo /etc/init.d/postfix start
manually and it works fine. I have a single wired connection with
static IP address. The boxes Connect automatically and Available to
all users are checked in System - Preferences - Network Connections.

I noticed that the /etc/rc?.d symlinks have it start at 20. The file
/etc/rcS.d/README says that networking isn't available until after 40,
although I think that only matters to the scripts in /etc/rcS.d. (If I
understand correctly, the scripts in rc2.d should run after all rcS.d
scripts are done.)

This problem does not exist on a second machine with a similar
configuration.

[Bug 373999] Re: CIFS loops endlessly when remote host is down

2009-06-29 Thread ddcc
I've managed to semi-reproduce it again, although this time against a
Samba server. I mounted it using sudo mount -t cifs
'\\192.168.1.130\Public' /mnt/temp , and then while doing cat
/dev/zero /mnt/temp/temp in another terminal, I called shutdown -h
-P now through SSH on the Samba server. The terminal with cat
/dev/zero /mnt/temp/temp is now hanging, and now I call sudo umount
/mnt/temp.

The only difference is that this time I can't get it to hang; it stops
on its own after a while. I'm going to keep messing with it though.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-06-29 Thread nitindb
@J Nice idea.
It would only really work if the panel is available. Without the panel, would
we just go back to the way its been done previously? I like the idea of
displaying the information in the left panel, it would make make the panel much
more useful.

@Cheiron Again a good idea.
But a balance would need to be reached between the size of the target. If its
too small, it could be very irritating; if its too large, it could get in the
way and lead to clicking by mistake.

@ Everyone
I personally like the information panel idea, as it nicely separates the tasks
of editing and browsing folders. Its most definitely the 'gnome way' of doing
things. Gnome at its heart is a minimalist DE, and thats what I like; it
doesn't try to be too flashy. Those coming from windows may not actually want
more of the same. If they are moving away from windows, they want better, and
smarter solutions.

These new ideas could lead to a long drawn out debate, and I just hope
that we are able to see something concrete in time for Karmic. Is there
anything that can be done, which is fast, does not require much work,
and would not run the risk of creating more bugs? Can someone, with
better knowledge, give us an idea of which of the ideas would be the
quickest to implement and which would take the longest and whether any
of the ideas could make it for at least Karmic +1? I'd guess that
adding F2, next to rename folder, in the right-click menu, would be the
quickest? What about the others?

[Bug 29894] Re: can't take screenshot when menu on panel is opened

2009-06-29 Thread Derek White
Something interesting that I found...

One thing that does work:
Open Firefox, Hit Alt-F (To open file menu), then hit Alt-Tab.
As soon as Alt is hit, the menu closes so the following -Tab, -E, -V, etc.
still work.

I assume this is a work-around that Firefox programmed in? Why can't
that also be added in for all GTK+ programs? If a menu is open, and the
Alt key is pressed/held down, the menu exits. Sounds simple :)

[Bug 154506] Re: Ubuntu LiveCD Install icon confusing

2009-06-29 Thread Catto
When i read the suggestions Install Ubuntu or Install Ubuntu to hard drive
i am asking myself why the
Word Ubuntu is in it. Of course this icon would install Ubuntu - what else ?

I think Install to hard drive is a good choice.

Maybe there are some really unexperienced users that are not so familar with
the word install.
( Non-native english speakers. )
They would get a better understanding of the programm behind the icon if the
Icon would be Copy CD to my hard drive.
As a technician i think the word install is necessary.

[Bug 393338] Re: virus attack

2009-06-29 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 333386] Re: Cannot change brightness with 2.6.27-11+ kernel

2009-06-29 Thread Jaya
An update.

I was using the nvidia proprietary driver. After removing this driver
and instead using the open source driver, the brightness control works.
I would still want to use the nvidia driver as the open source driver
does not give me the full resolution. Seems my case is similar to
gidantribal's. Hope to see a solution soon!

[Bug 392510] Re: Dual-boot install using mdadm root fails to boot

2009-06-29 Thread danwood76
After you apt-get remove you must rebuild the initramfs (sudo update-
initramfs -u -k all), as described in my post. From your post it sounds
like the uninstall from apt will remove the initramfs hooks just not
rebuild the array.

As luke said you have one or the other, there is no advantage of using
both types on one drive.

[Bug 393359] [NEW] Fails on rss feeds that require basic http auth

2009-06-29 Thread David Rubin
Public bug reported:

I can't give the rss feed location since it is an internal rss feed that
requires basic authentication. The url isn't https.

username/password field but then comes up with below. The url is rss2.

If there is any other info I can provide please let me know.

[Bug 369198] Re: update-manager auto-opened after each apt use when security updates available

2009-06-29 Thread Martin Pitt
Indeed, you have to restart your session after the update for it to
become effective.

Michael, Matthew, is it actually intentional that it doesn't pop up
automatically if security updates are available?
