[Bug 236640] Re: iSCSI install fails under hardy
As I explained a couple months earlier (see comment 2), even if the path to iscsi-iname is fixed, it still fail in the end. The installer goes on just fine, but if you choose to configure a file system residing on an iSCSI target to be mounted at boot time (not as the root file system, just about any mount point), /etc/rcS.d/S30checkfs.sh will fail at boot and drop to a maintenance shell. This is because the iSCSI block device is not brought up on boot correctly, and as such the file system residing on that iSCSI target cannot be checked/mounted. For it to be so, there need to be a valid node configuration file under /etc/iscsi/nodes/. This configuration file is being generated just fine by the open-iscsi udeb in the installer environment. However, it is *not* being copied to the root file system of the installation (/target). There are two problems: 1. The post-installation script of the udeb (debian/open-iscsi-udeb .finish-install in the source deb) is being installed in /lib/finish- install.d/. I think this is supposed to be /usr/lib/finish-install.d/. 2. There is a bug in debian/open-iscsi-udeb.finish-install. It copy the whole configuration directory with: cp -a /etc/iscsi /target/etc/iscsi Which mean we end up with the installer iscsi configuration directory as /etc/iscsi/iscsi in the target, which is not what we want. I presume it should really be: cp -a /etc/iscsi /target/etc/ So that we have the configuration from the installer environment copied over to the target properly. The above problems where found on both hardy and jaunty. Moreover, there seems to be a race condition at boot time where open-iscsi is started before networking is ready, which also prevent the iSCSI block device to be available when /etc/rcS.d/S30checkfs.sh is being run. I am still investigating and will report a separate bug as appropriate. -- iSCSI install fails under hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236640 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to open-iscsi in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file
@J Nice idea. It would only really work if the panel is available. Without the panel, would we just go back to the way its been done previously? I like the idea of displaying the information in the left panel, it would make make the panel much more useful. @Cheiron Again a good idea. But a balance would need to be reached between the size of the target. If its too small, it could be very irritating; if its too large, it could get in the way and lead to clicking by mistake. @ Everyone I personally like the information panel idea, as it nicely separates the tasks of editing and browsing folders. Its most definitely the 'gnome way' of doing things. Gnome at its heart is a minimalist DE, and thats what I like; it doesn't try to be too flashy. Those coming from windows may not actually want more of the same. If they are moving away from windows, they want better, and smarter solutions. These new ideas could lead to a long drawn out debate, and I just hope that we are able to see something concrete in time for Karmic. Is there anything that can be done, which is fast, does not require much work, and would not run the risk of creating more bugs? Can someone, with better knowledge, give us an idea of which of the ideas would be the quickest to implement and which would take the longest and whether any of the ideas could make it for at least Karmic +1? Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
