[Bug 398428] Re: folder sharing not working without reboot
David: in your testing, do you log in on your Linux system after the restart, or do you directly test under Windows XP for share access ? If not, this probably fails because the user's password isn't migrated to smbpass yet. Here is how it should work : installing share support also installs libpam-smbpass. This PAM library ensures that user passwords are synced to the samba password tdb when the user logs in (or changes passwords). Until the user password is migrated the share will fail to authenticate you. When you restart the session, two things (should) happen: the user gets the rights to setup a share (gets the usershare group rights) and when the user logs in his password gets migrated. So you should actually restart *and* log in again for the share to work. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- folder sharing not working without reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398428 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 404321] Re: gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out
Well, it's not totally unusable since you can still switch to another user. And there should be other users available if you're under a domain setup. The whole account locking AD feature is buggy, since every large AD domain user knows they can easily lock out someone else's account. I guess in the end it all depends on how being locked out translates, since I can imagine a bug asking for the complete contrary of what you're asking. In that discussion, it might be worth considering that Microsoft does not apply lockout policy to the screen unlock dialog: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188700 Maybe gnome-screensaver's unlock screen dialog could be taught to recognize a specific locked error code, but I'm far from convinced we should do that. ** Changed in: likewise-open (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New ** Changed in: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to likewise-open in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 404321] Re: gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out
It's totally unusable to me, since I only have one AD account so switching to another user isn't really viable. Obviously there's the workaround of going to a console session as root and killing gnome-screensaver, but that's just silly in my opinion. Interesting that the microsoft support link doesn't give a rationale either way for this policy. It would probably be good to have it as a configurable option though, rather than forcing it to work one way or the other. Wouldn't a locked account result in a successful pam auth, but unsuccessful pam account result, rather than checking for a specific error code? -- gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to likewise-open in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Status in “samba” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: samba I maintain 2 networks with mixed ubuntu / Windows XP SP2 machines and this problem started suddenly in September of 2008. All of my Ubuntu machines whether they are clean installs of 8.04 or 8.10 or 9.04, 32 or 64 bit or upgrades from earlier versions all exhibit the failure to display or browse smb shares. The only fix is to edit etc/samba/smb.conf: # What naming service and in what order should we use to resolve host names # to IP addresses ; name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast remove the leading ; from the name resolve order line and change the order of the entries to read: name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host Save the file, log off and back on. This change fixes the problem for all my machine in both networks. The problem remains unresolved in Jaunty unless I do this. This problem appeared suddenly in September of 2008 on 8.04 machines that had been working normally and has persisted through 8.10 and now 9.04. Clicking on the Places Network to bring up the network browse gui will take a fairly long time to appear and it will not display any of the machines on the network, whether Ubuntu or Windows XP. It may display an icon for Windows Network, but if that is clicked, the system times out with nothing displayed after about 60 seconds. This happens on all machines whether clean installs or upgrades with 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04, both 32 And 64 bit. IT also does not matter if the Ubuntu machines are static IP or DHCP. After editing the smb.conf file as noted above, the network gui works quickly and as expected displays all shares on all Windows XP and Ubuntu machines on the local network. Additional info: until I found the fix noted here, I installed the kde 3.x network browser. I forget the name of the package, but that worked instantly. Once I got gnome working, I uninstalled it. I have not had to do this on the new 9.04 installs, I just edit smb.conf and everything works as expected. -- cannot browse samba shares without editing smb.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375593 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 406171] [NEW] COUNTER64 broken in NetSNMP::agent
Public bug reported: Trying to use COUNTER64 in NetSNMP::agent doesn't work. This is a long- standing bug that has been fixed in SVN for 5.2.x, 5.3.x, 5.4.x and trunk last year. I noticed this bug a while ago (it was already reported to net-snmp) and worked around it by using normal counters. Now it's fixed I'd like to use them to test some counter-specific functions. It would be awesome if the patch could get trough normal updates. Note that Perl do not support 64bit integers (long long in C) out of the box, but Math::Int64 do and the value can be safely passed to NetSNMP::agent as a string. Re: [Bug 355824] Re: update manager crashes on resume
Hi Leann, Which issue exactly? The update manager issue or the fact that my machine won't resume from standby? I'd be willing to test the latest development release if you believe there is a chance the standby/resume issue has been resolved, as this is the only issue keeping me from adapting Ubuntu as my primary OS. From 'lspci' I have: Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02) The install is x64. Any pointers would help. I had the same problem in Jaunty, precipitating the move to Karmic (thinking it might be fixed). Now I'm considering returning to Intrepid. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: karmic ** Tags added: karmic -- wireless networks not detected - Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 363663] Re: [jaunty] cpu scheduling is not optimized for multitask
Same problem on a HP Pavilion dv6415eb (Intel based) using Ubuntu 9.04. After many research, kernel compiles and querying the advice of Vincent Minder I found what seems the base of the problem. Any Linux install (Ubuntu, Slackware, Fedora) that uses ext4 is perfectly fluent. Any install based on ext3 is atrocious. The most obvious explanation, though possibly wrong, is that under ext3 the kernel jobs schedulers do not take into account the time/bandwidth used by each job regarding disk accesses. A worst case situation is a simple cp of a huge file. The cp command uses almost no CPU resources but maximum hard disk bandwidth. Aside of this, say Firefox is starting. It uses quite a lot of hard disk bandwidth but also a fair amount of CPU. The scheduler notices that the poor devil of a cp uses almost no resources, because only the CPU consumption is taken into account. So, the cp command is unleashed to maximum liberty while the apparently evil Firefox is constrained. Having all CPU time it wants, cp will seize almost all the hard disk bandwidth. Firefox may then need up to several minutes to start. Even simply displaying a menu, if it implies reading a little file, may take several seconds. (What's more, if the huge file copied by cp is bigger than the available RAM, it will constantly erase all other cached files, even though caching the huge file is bluntly pointless.) A system installed in an ext4 formatted partition is wonderfully fluent, to the smallest details. It's like every job had all the resources for itself and all the system was compelled to please you instantly. (Note that an ext4 partition can have no boot record, so you have to use a separate little /boot partition formated in ext3, or any alternate responsible solution.) I tried using other graphical interfaces, like AfterStep and fvwm. The problem got even worse... It was really frightening under Afterstep, making the system unusable. My guess is that Metacity is quite a neat window manager after all, though some versions may be even nicer than others regarding this problem. -- [jaunty] cpu scheduling is not optimized for multitask https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363663 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Khashayar: Run /etc/init.d/dbus stop, then valgrind --tool=massif /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --system like I did, it'll create a massif.out file, which you'll need to chown to messagebus, then kill dbus-daemon and add it as an attachment. Since killing dbus takes out any application on a bus, you'll need to do all of these commands from a terminal, but in between you can log in via gdm/kdm as normal. -- dbus-daemon memory leak https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 404913] Re: Karmic Alpha 3: no Broadcom Wifi on Dell Studio 1535 (Ubuntu 9.04 OK)
Thanks for the clarification. I'll try the manual install. FYI: So far, I've different results with installing the proprietary driver via the GUI: - jockey crash, or - window lockup (to be killed with xkill) possibly caused by another, unseen window asking for input, or - successful install I have to check whether it has to do with the order of installation; there are two prop drivers offered; the downloader/unpacker, and the driver itself. Question: is the proprietary driver (bcmwl-kernel-source?) on the Karmic live CD, or has it to be downloaded over a (wired) Internet connection? Downloading a wireless driver over a wired connection is awkward IMHO. We can't easily implement either the suggestion to include whether updates are available or whether the version is the most recent version of Ubuntu or not, because those are both things that change during the lifetime of an Ubuntu system and the help system that Ubuntu uses doesn't allow us to plug it into external systems and dynamically update its content. [Bug 380860] Re: kile spell checker not aware of latex
Hmm, not fixed for me, can anyone clarify what the difference could be? I am using up-to date karmic. The version of the kile package I am using is 1:2.1.0~svn981319beta1-1ubuntu1 and it says in the about dialog that it's kde 4.3 RC3. -- kile spell checker not aware of latex https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/380860 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 400697] Re: Cannot disable touchpad buttons
As discussed on IRC that disables any click event. An alternative to make the touchpad more usable would be to disable bottom area of the touchpad so that you can use the physical buttons (on the Dell Mini 10v) without triggering other events such as movements, taps or scrolling. Make sure that you have xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.1.2-1ubuntu2 in Karmic and type: xinput set-int-prop SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Synaptics Area 32 0 0 0 4000 where 4000 is the new bottom edge. If you want to increase the size of the blacklisted area you can try something smaller than 4000. -- Cannot disable touchpad buttons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/400697 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
