Can you please be more specific regarding your version? Different
release of Ubuntu may contain packages based on the same upstream
version, but with different patches applied. A command giving good
information is apt-cache policy packagename

2009-08-01 Thread Chris Sherlock
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 371147 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371147

Lennart says that he's stopped the assert from being called - see
http://pulseaudio.org/ticket/595

He says that there is still something leaking ALSA snd_pcm_t objects.

This was reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/pulseaudio/+bug/371147
and I later lodged a bug against pulseaudio - it's the ALSA plugin
that's causing this issue.

[Bug 318942] Re: no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5)

2009-08-01 Thread Thomas B
Using Mauricio's suggestions on kernel -14 and ALSA -20, but still no luck. I
was working through the Sound Troubleshooting guide when I noticed something
interesting.

The guide helps you generate a long ALSA info page. My ALSA info page is here:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=1dee76a881f8e3dfa53fed17b931f8b6a2508ffd

It lists my codec as IDT 92HD81B1X5, even though aplay -l makes it
look like my codec should have something like STAC92xx in it.

I couldn't find the IDT codec for any more detailed kernel support here:
http://is.gd/1Xdjf (git alsa project kernel configuration guide).

So I was stopped short of completing the troubleshooter.

Anything jump out about this that's fishy? I appreciate all the help I'm
getting trying to debug this issue.

[Bug 407596] [NEW] epiphany-browser: mnemonic/accelerator shows as underscore instead of underline, and does not register with keyboard

2009-08-01 Thread xtknight
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

This happens in several applications.

On Karmic, I'm seeing buttons that have an underscore instead of an
underline for the accelerator key. It's more obvious what I'm talking
about by looking at the screenshot I posted.

It happens only on certain buttons, but on those certain buttons it
happens consistently. I don't know why. And the accelerator is actually
broken on the keyboard when this happens, as well. Underlined
accelerators work fine, but underscored accelerators are not even
registered on the keyboard.

[Bug 405701] Re: user_times reports wrong values

2009-08-01 Thread Cesare Tirabassi
Unfortunately you have to update your .conkyrc to reflect the new
changes. There were some problems with the way $goto behaved which have
been fixed.

[Bug 400022] Re: 2.6.28 regression causes reboots

2009-08-01 Thread Mark Hannon
I tried the 2.6.28-14 kernel this afternoon with the same results.
However, I have found a work-around, if I disable powernowd (i.e. mv
/usr/sbin/powernowd /usr/sbin/powernowd.orig) then the system is stable.

Some additional information on the system (whilst running the 2.6.27
kernel)

I don't think this problem is the gnome-panel bug, because it's not only slow
the first time, it's slow all the time.
It's not a minor slowdown, it's unworkable slow.

[Bug 404767] Re: gnome-system-tools: mnemonic/accelerator shows as underscore instead of underline, and does not register with keyboard

2009-08-01 Thread xtknight
Umm we're absolutely sure this is a bug in each individual package,
right?

Something must have changed in gtk that caused use-underline to be false
by default. I don't know what would have caused all these packages to
suddenly have problems.

Anyway if you see any other problems please open another bug and link me
to it, or alert me to the program, and I'll post a debdiff for it.

[Bug 355553] Re: network manager doesn't support dial up modems

2009-08-01 Thread tp42
I work on a fully patched Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty installation an try to get an
external USRobotics UBS dial-up modem online. No success so far, although I got
it to work with Ubuntu 8.10. Some details:
Setting up the dial-up connection was done with pppconfig
pon ISP and poff work with my user permissions, plog is only available via sudo
plog
ifconfig shows the ppp0 connection (DNS, IP, Gateway are all ok)
Network Tools show the ppp0 connection
NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0.100 does not realize ppp0.

Firefox, Evolution and other software think, that there is no Internet
connection. What could I do to get the applications working correctly?

Thanks in advance.

create 2 scripts which are executable by root. One for halt, on for
reboot.

basically the script are

#!/bin/sh
ifconfig wlan0 down
halt

and

#!/bin/sh
ifconfig wlan0 down
reboot

Then, in the Lgin Manager configuration,

change the commands to run from

/sbin/halt to yourhaltscript

and

/sbin/reboot to your rebootscript.

This way you'll enjoy a normal user experience.

(but I don't know wht will happen if you use networked filesystems and
so on, guess it's safe but ain't sure).

[Bug 204898] Re: Better (non-linear) volume control

2009-08-01 Thread xtknight
Here's a debdiff for karmic that enables *EXTREMELY EXPERIMENTAL*
support for a logarithmic volume control. I warned you there.

Honestly it was pretty easy (so easy it's deceptive) but I don't know if
it works perfectly. I haven't been able to try it on a card with a
negative volume lower bound. e.g., in 'amixer -c 0' (for card 0),
you'll see this:

  Limits: Playback 0 - 39

My code supports a negative lower bound (less than 0), but I don't know
if that ever happens. Consider this a proof of concept. It should be
tested a lot more until it's in the code base.

I attached a graph of how it works. The straight line y=x is how alsa
is now. The other plot is how alsa will respond with the logarithmic
scale with setting 0.7. More sensitivity on the upper end. Debdiff and
ppa will come in a second.

[Bug 407599] [NEW] mozilla thunderbird - all emails i receive are not the original document sent to me. They have been replaced by a document sent months ago. All the attachments went missing. help.

2009-08-01 Thread franklin ong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

i am using ubuntu 8.10. mozilla thunderbird is version 2.0.0.22
(20090608).

i expected to download my normal email. it did normally. i mean i can
send and download email.

however, a closer inspection of the email i have been receiving revealed
that when opened, content was of a previous email sent to me a year ago.
this happened to all the emails i download thereafter. all the emails
were replaced by a document i received months or years ago. even the
attachments that accompanied the orig file went missing when you open
the file. there was an attachment before you open the file but it
disappears when the file is clicked to open.

I tried to re install mozilla thunderbird using the synaptic package
manager. problem still persisted. I tried to configure evolution to
temporarily send/receive email. i was successful. i did not encounter
the same problem with evolution.

[Bug 403869] Re: Soltech TA12 touchpad scrolling area not flush to the right

2009-08-01 Thread Earl Malmrose
This is hard to describe. Let me describe it like this. Consider 4
vertical lines. Between lines A and B is the area of the touchpad that
affects movement of the mouse. Between lines C and D is the area of the
touchpad that performs scrolling.

In the previous xinput command, 1632 is line A, and 5312 is line B. Line
C seems to always be the same as line B. If line B is moved to the left,
then the width of the scroll area increases. If line B is moved to the
right, the scroll area decreases.

Line D never moves. So, if line B (and C) move to the right of D, then
the scroll area has a negative width, which results in scrolling being
completely disabled.

Does that make sense?

I'm attaching mine with this post. By comparing it with its source
version from package hal-info, I see that all those informations where

[Bug 238606] Re: [MASTER] Flash player doesn't work properly on Firefox 3 64bits (crash, gray square)

2009-08-01 Thread reindeer
I can confirm this bug. But youtube.com gives a BLACK box instead of a gray.
I am using Jaunty on amd64.
Only flash related package in synaptic selected is adobe-flashplugin.

$ sudo update-alternatives --config xulrunner-addons-flashplugin

Es gibt nur 1 Programm, welches xulrunner-addons-flashplugin bereitstellt
(/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so). Nichts zu konfigurieren.

Konqueror 4.2.2 works, firefox 3.0.12 does not.

Installing the binary libflashplayer-10.0.22.87.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz
from adobe manually into ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so like
described in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nspluginwrapper/+bug/246450?comments=all did
not help.

about:plugins in firefox says that Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22 is
loaded.

For the time being, the adobe-flashplugin should check for amd64 and
give a warning or reject installation.

2009-08-01 Thread Albert
Still not working with live 'karmic koala alpha 3'.

apport-collect -p linux 267387 done, after inserting cards in both readers
a couple of times.

Hope it helps.

[Bug 318942] Re: no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5)

2009-08-01 Thread Thomas B
SOUND! WOOHOO!

I finally added options snd-hda-intel model=ref to /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base

I have been editing alsa-base.conf, but it was the edit in alsa-base
without the .conf extension that did the trick.

Other than that one line, alsa-base is empty, so I thought people
editing that without the .conf just made a typo. On the other hand,
maybe my alsa-base file was overriding the .conf file somehow.

Anyway, works now, for anyone else for whom Mauricio's solution doesn't,
you might start by checking your alsa-base without the .conf extension.
