Using Mauricio's suggestions on kernel -14 and ALSA -20, but still no luck. I was working through the Sound Troubleshooting guide when I noticed something interesting. ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting ) The guide helps you generate a long ALSA info page. My ALSA info page is here: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=1dee76a881f8e3dfa53fed17b931f8b6a2508ffd It lists my codec as IDT 92HD81B1X5, even though aplay -l makes it look like my codec should have something like STAC92xx in it. I couldn't find the IDT codec for any more detailed kernel support here: http://is.gd/1Xdjf (git alsa project kernel configuration guide). So I was stopped short of completing the troubleshooter. Umm we're absolutely sure this is a bug in each individual package, right? Something must have changed in gtk that caused use-underline to be false by default. I don't know what would have caused all these packages to suddenly have problems. I work on a fully patched Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty installation an try to get an external USRobotics UBS dial-up modem online. No success so far, although I got it to work with Ubuntu 8.10. Some details: Setting up the dial-up connection was done with pppconfig pon ISP and poff work with my user permissions, plog is only available via sudo plog ifconfig shows the ppp0 connection (DNS, IP, Gateway are all ok) Network Tools show the ppp0 connection NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0.100 does not realize ppp0. Firefox, Evolution and other software think, that there is no Internet connection. What could I do to get the applications working correctly? [Bug 365733] Re: Jaunty - Wireless issue causes laptop shutdown to hang indefinitely
ifconfig wlan0 down works for me on my laptop. For those who use Kubuntu (KDE 4+) and dont wan't to type that command on each halt/reboot, here's what I've done : create 2 scripts which are executable by root. One for halt, on for reboot. basically the script are #!/bin/sh ifconfig wlan0 down halt and #!/bin/sh ifconfig wlan0 down reboot Then, in the Lgin Manager configuration, change the commands to run from /sbin/halt to yourhaltscript and /sbin/reboot to your rebootscript. This way you'll enjoy a normal user experience. (but I don't know wht will happen if you use networked filesystems and so on, guess it's safe but ain't sure). stF -- Jaunty - Wireless issue causes laptop shutdown to hang indefinitely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365733 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 204898] Re: Better (non-linear) volume control
Here's a debdiff for karmic that enables *EXTREMELY EXPERIMENTAL* support for a logarithmic volume control. I warned you there. Honestly it was pretty easy (so easy it's deceptive) but I don't know if it works perfectly. I haven't been able to try it on a card with a negative volume lower bound. e.g., in 'amixer -c 0' (for card 0), you'll see this: Limits: Playback 0 - 39 My code supports a negative lower bound (less than 0), but I don't know if that ever happens. Consider this a proof of concept. It should be tested a lot more until it's in the code base. I attached a graph of how it works. The straight line y=x is how alsa is now. The other plot is how alsa will respond with the logarithmic scale with setting 0.7. More sensitivity on the upper end. Debdiff and ppa will come in a second. ** Attachment added: logarithmic volume graph http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29768808/log_vol.png -- Better (non-linear) volume control https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tried to re install mozilla thunderbird using the synaptic package manager. problem still persisted. [Bug 403869] Re: Soltech TA12 touchpad scrolling area not flush to the right
This is hard to describe. Let me describe it like this. Consider 4 vertical lines. Between lines A and B is the area of the touchpad that affects movement of the mouse. Between lines C and D is the area of the touchpad that performs scrolling. In the previous xinput command, 1632 is line A, and 5312 is line B. Line C seems to always be the same as line B. If line B is moved to the left, then the width of the scroll area increases. If line B is moved to the right, the scroll area decreases. Line D never moves. So, if line B (and C) move to the right of D, then the scroll area has a negative width, which results in scrolling being completely disabled. Does that make sense? -- Soltech TA12 touchpad scrolling area not flush to the right https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403869 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Installing the binary libflashplayer-10.0.22.87.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz from adobe manually into ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so like described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/nspluginwrapper/+bug/246450?comments=all did not help. about:plugins in firefox says that Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22 is loaded. [Bug 318942] Re: no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5)
SOUND! WOOHOO! I finally added options snd-hda-intel model=ref to /etc/modprobe.d /alsa-base I have been editing alsa-base.conf, but it was the edit in alsa-base without the .conf extension that did the trick. Other than that one line, alsa-base is empty, so I thought people editing that without the .conf just made a typo. On the other hand, maybe my alsa-base file was overriding the .conf file somehow. Anyway, works now, for anyone else for whom Mauricio's solution doesn't, you might start by checking your alsa-base without the .conf extension. -- no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318942 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
