As of r659 of Eucalyptus 1.6, Web UI has been debugged and polished, so
Walrus can now be registered using the Web UI.

[Bug 349331] Re: limited screen resolution

2009-09-09 Thread Theo Nolte
Thank you so much! You did a brilliant job! Works perfectly since this
morning. No idea what fixed it, maybe it was kernel 2.6.31-10 or
xserver-common.

Now the vesa-emulation (-vga std) works for me with karmic guest on
karmic host and I can get any resolution I want including my native one.
The xorg.conf I use on the guest is attached. If you want other
resolutions just change 1680x1050 to whatever you want.

This only works for karmic guests. For 9.04 guests you still have to use
the cirrus driver (-vga cirrus), which is limited to 1280x1024.

[Bug 349331] Re: limited screen resolution

2009-09-09 Thread Dustin Kirkland
I'm marking the kvm and xorg tasked fix released, as I, too, can
confirm that we now have much better resolutions at our disposal in
Karmic.

I'm leaving the upstream QEMU task open, however, in that QEMU could
(should?) provide a better EDID interface.

Re: [Bug 362013] Re: kvm migration fails with large-memory VMs

2009-09-09 Thread Brent Nelson
On Tue, 8 Sep 2009, Dustin Kirkland wrote:

 Hi Brent-

Upstream indicates that this is solved in qemu 0.11, which is what we
 have in Karmic right now.

Any chance you can test this on a Karmic system running qemu-kvm 0.11?

With regard to your ifup/ifdown question, I'm uploading a fix right now
for Bug #376387, which is that bug.

 :-Dustin

The KVM 84 PPA you posted for Hardy fixed the memory issue (although live
migration of SMP systems is still broken; this is fixed somewhat after KVM
84, apparently). I don't have any Koala to test with (trying to hold out
for the next LTS release), but it appears to be the same version or
better, so I would expect that it resolves the issue with migration of
large-memory VMs.

Thanks,

Brent

[Bug 426830] [NEW] Add a check in eucalyptus-nc to verify that the target can run KVM

2009-09-09 Thread Etienne Goyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eucalyptus-nc

This is a wishlist item.

As it can be hard to track problems running instances on a node
controller caused by the node controller not supporting HVM, it would be
good if the package installer would warn of the situation. For example,
we could just run kvm-ok in the preinst, and report status in a dialog
box. This would improve the out-of-the-box experience significantly,
reduce the number of people who request help following installation and
simplify documentation.

[Bug 422138] Re: Slow memory leak, seen on two machines, appears to be dupe of 224945 even after -updates

Note that although some threads do disappear (normal, expect) the ones
that stay never free up any RAM. If I were to let this just chill by
itself for a few days, res would be a gig or so and virt would be up
there.

And for good measure, ten minutes:

30458 www-data 20 0 341m 162m 4692 S0 1.0 0:08.22 apache2

31412 www-data 20 0 285m 106m 4660 S0 0.7 0:05.18 apache2

The server isn't being used much right now, but as you can see, no
memory has really been free'd. Right now I am working around this by
reloading apache at 11:59 every night (the saddest cron job on earth),
which appears to bring memory usage back down.

[Bug 356359] Re: php5-cgi crashed with SIGSEGV in vspprintf()

2009-09-09 Thread cschutijser
A few months ago, I had problems with php5-cgi which crashed. But now, I
don't have problems.

The cause of the '500 internal server error' was that the settings for
the MySQL database connection were wrong. When I tried to access a page
which used that settings, I received a '500 internal server error', and
php5-cgi crashed. I corrected the settings, and then it worked very
well.

I tested if php5-cgi would crash with wrong database connection settings
last week, but php5-cgi didn't crash. I still received the '500 internal
server error'.

I don't understand why php5-cgi doesn't crash today, maybe it is still
fixed? I would like to help to solve this bug (because I am the
reporter), but today I can't reproduce this bug.

[Bug 426919] [NEW] thread_stack setting is too small

2009-09-09 Thread Dave Walker
Public bug reported:

It would seem that some internal changes on mysql from 5.0 to 5.1 would require
a higher thread_stack size. The issues was noticed when trying to import a
reasonably trivial sql script:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/mythexport/trunk/annotate/head%3A/usr/share/mythtv/mythexport.sql

Trying to import with the default setting yields:
ERROR 1436 (HY000) at line 20: Thread stack overrun: 4996 bytes used of a
131072 byte stack, and 128000 bytes needed. Use 'mysqld -O thread_stack=#' to
specify a bigger stack.

This error did not happen with the same my.cnf settings in 5.0.

When the setting is set from mysql upstream default of 192K on 5.1, the
error is not reproducible. Therefore, I would consider this a
regression.

[Bug 203020] Re: virsh attach-disk doesn't work

2009-09-09 Thread Jamin W. Collins
I found using a device xml file works in Jaunty with
0.7.0-0ubuntu0~ppa2, haven't tried older version, but it may work with
them as well. I could not get the attach or detach -disk options to
work. However using the device xml seems to work. I've attached the
xml file I use to attach my system's physical CD-ROM to the VM.
Detaching is (oddly enough) accomplished by attaching an empty device.
I'll upload the no-cdrom.xml after this.

virsh attach-device winxp ~/cdrom.xml

[Bug 426704] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.37-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-09-09 Thread Mathias Gug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that you're using a non-standard location for
your data directory (datadir option in my.cnf). However mysqld apparmor
profile (in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld) hasn't been updated to
allow access to the custom directory.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor#Debugging%20procedure for
more information on how to update mysqld apparmor profile.

Re: [Bug 370271] Re: During dist upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04 with mailman got exit status 1

2009-09-09 Thread Craig Van Degrift
Chuck,

After seeing no response to my bug report, I concluded that the problem was a
serious one that must be well known. I think that mailman was updated to use
python version 3.0 while Kubuntu was was still using 2.6. I decided to simply
run my small mail server operation by hand and wait until kubuntu 9.10 when I
assume the problem will be resolved. So, for now, I am no longer using
mailman.

Craig

If there's a very good reason to have the new upstream version we will
consider it.

http://qa.ubuntuwire.com/bugs/rcbugs/ for example is a good indicator
for things that we should probably have.

Is this merge important or not considering the release in a few weeks?
