[Bug 238684] Re: [patch?] alt-gr does not work inside kvm debian terminal

2009-09-14 Thread Jay
Apparently, on some vnc client Alt-Gr works (directvnc for example vnc
via framebuffer), maybe it's a probleme from the vnc client not the vnc
server.

Dear chuck, I'm wondering if you think your answer could help me.
In my sources.list there are only intrepid release entries.
I tried to force the purge of libkrb53 package with:
# dpkg --force-depends --purge libkrb53
# apt-get -f install
but when i tried to install the package krb5-kdc the same error appears.

[Bug 425928] Re: Eucalyptus CC package depends on 'vtund' process in multi-cluster mode

2009-09-14 Thread Thierry Carrez
vtun has broken encryption support that makes it unsuitable for main
(and for a secure multi-cluster support), see MIR review in bug 412059.

The workaround proposal for karmic is to ship a working but unsupported
multi-cluster mode, by suggesting vtun usage in eucalyptus and leaving
it in universe. There is no time left to migrate from using vtun to
openvpn for proper layer-2 encrypted tunneling.

For karmic+1 this would be revisited so that multi-cluster capabilities
are fully supported in main, by removing eucalyptus dependency on vtun
and switching to openvpn or an IPsec implementation.

Re: [Bug 425922] Re: Eucalyptus component registration process is manual

2009-09-14 Thread Colin Watson
What if it's already registered to another cloud controller, though?
Would --register-walrus local-ip forcibly re-register with a local
cloud? We wouldn't want that, I think.

We'd want some way to distinguish failed to register because already
registered from failed to register because something went wrong. As
such I think it would be helpful to have a way to tell up-front whether
the component has already been registered or not.

Re: [Bug 429169] [NEW] ec2: Include kernel modules in AMIs

2009-09-14 Thread Scott Moser
Some other options have been discussed like building kernel modules into
the kernel or copying them from initrd into /lib/modules at boot time,
but the easiest approach to get things working in the short term is
probably just to follow the existing de facto standard and include the
kernel modules for the AMI's default kernel. If somebody wants to run

I know that Eric doesn't really want to hear this, but I'll at least point
it out. Having the modules already installed for the xen kernel is less
than ideal for the uec images.

That said, I absolutely agree that having a full set of modules available
to the user in ec2 (at least comparable to that of the '-virtual' kernel)
is needed.

[Bug 423865] Re: [FFE] Image Store UI in Eucalyptus needs local proxy

2009-09-14 Thread Mathias Gug
** Description changed:

The newly introduced Image Store UI in Eucalyptus relies on a local
proxy in order to perform searches, queries, and to emit commands for
- image downloading and installation. This proxy is still being written,
- and has to be introduced next to Eucalyptus for the feature to work.
+ image downloading and installation.

The estimated availability time for the proxy code is on September 14th.
+
+ A first implementation of the proxy code is available from
+ https://code.launchpad.net/image-store-proxy.
+
+ Here is an overview taken from the README file:
+
+
+ How it works
+
+
+ The Image Store Proxy sits in the middle of three entities: the
+ Eucalyptus Image Store UI, the Eucalyptus S3 and EC2 APIs, and
+ the upstream Canonical Image Store API:
+
+
+ Canonical Image Store API
+ -
+^
+|
+|
+ -
+ | Image Store Proxy |
+ -
+^ |
+| |
+| v
+ -- -
+ | Eucalyptus | | Eucalyptus |
+ | Image Store UI | | S3 EC2 APIs |
+ -- -
+
+
+ The Eucalyptus UI talks to the proxy to obtain information about
+ which images are available, and also to do requests for installing
+ images, canceling previously requested actions, and obtaining
+ progress information about on going requests.
+
+ The Image Store Proxy talks to the upstream Canonical Image Store API
+ to satisfy information requests done by the Eucalyptus UI, and once
+ requested to install an image, will download the necessary files to
+ the local file system using information provided by the upstream
+ Canonical API, and then use the euca2ools suite to bundle, upload and
+ register images in Eucalyptus through the EC2 and S3 APIs.
+
+
+ System requirements
+ ---
+
+ For the proxy to fully work, it needs the following dependencies
+ available:
+
+ - Python (tested with 2.6).
+
+ - Python sqlite3 module (included in Python 2.6 itself)
+
+ - Python Twisted modules
+
+ - Python pycurl module
+
+ - A working Eucalyptus installation in the same machine as the
+ proxy is installed.
+
+ - euca_conf with support for the --get-credentials option, installed
+ in eucalyptus prefix/usr/sbin.
+
+ - Be installed and running as the same user that Eucalyptus is running,
+ so that it has access to the necessary information for obtaining
+ credentials for signing outgoing requests and validating incoming
+ request signatures.
+
+ - A working external connection with the Canonical Image Store API

[Bug 429443] [NEW] /usr/bin/kvm-ok should be disassociated from kvm

2009-09-14 Thread Peter Matulis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

If we want to make the kvm-ok script really useful then it should be
disassociated from the kvm package. Users should not have to install
kvm and its dependents in order to discover whether they can use kvm. I
propose we move this script into the base Ubuntu install.

[Bug 423865] Re: [FFE] Image Store UI in Eucalyptus needs local proxy

2009-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
More information:

niemeyer slangasek: This is a new feature being introduced to add support in
Eucalyptus to download and register images automatically through the Eucalyptus
admin interface itself
niemeyer slangasek: A bad scenario for this feature is to not work at all,
but this won't mean that other parts of the system would stop working
slangasek niemeyer: well, which parts are new? The bug description talks a
lot about system requirements, but I'm pretty sure most of these are already
present by default?
niemeyer slangasek: So the risk is self-contained, IMO
niemeyer slangasek: Right.. the only new part is the image-store-proxy itself
slangasek niemeyer: and that's going to be shipping where? in the server
images?
niemeyer slangasek: Right, next to Eucalyptus
niemeyer slangasek: For the Image Store UI that is now in Eucalyptus to work
at all, this proxy is needed
niemeyer slangasek: So there should be a mutual dependency between them

[Bug 310913] Re: net-snmp process hang on hardy

2009-09-14 Thread Chuck Short
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

However you'll still be assisted if you wish to compile fpm from the

[Bug 427288] Re: Karmic i386 EC2 kernel emulating unsupported memory accesses

2009-09-14 Thread Scott Moser
I've just tested on ami-a40fefcd , which uses the kernel in question
that installing libc6-xen fixes this problem in ec2.

I booted the instance, then 'apt-get update apt-get install
libc6-xen'. After a reboot, I have:

$ uname -r
2.6.31-300-ec2
$ dpkg -l libc6* | grep ^ii
ii libc6 2.10.1-0ubuntu11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries
ii libc6-i686 2.10.1-0ubuntu11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries [i686 optimi
ii libc6-xen 2.10.1-0ubuntu11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries [Xen version
$ ldd /bin/bash
linux-gate.so.1 = (0xb7ef6000)
libncurses.so.5 = /lib/libncurses.so.5 (0xb7eb5000)
libdl.so.2 = /lib/libdl.so.2 (0xb7eb1000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/libc.so.6 (0xb7d54000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7ef7000)

no warnings
$ time perl -e 'glob(xxx*)'
real0m0.007s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m0.000s

Steve successfully debugged that /etc/ld.so.nohwcap existed and was
causing the problems. After removal of that file and 'ldconfig', a ldd
/bin/bash will show 'libc.so.6 = /lib/tls/i686/nosegneg/libc.so.6'

[Bug 427842] Re: [karmic] frontend DB needs ACLs for base= and cn=schema

2009-09-14 Thread Andreas Hasenack
** Description changed:

The current installation of slapd doesn't allow for searches in the empty
base (dn=) and the schema entries. These are needed by several client tools
to, among other things:
  - check what the server schema is (luma, apache directory studio)
  - discover what the server supports (the -s base -b + search), like
authentication mechanisms, extensions, etc

This ldapmodify fixes it after the server is running, so it should give
you hints on where to add it properly in the package:

  dn: olcDatabase={-1}frontend,cn=config
  changetype: modify
  add: olcAccess
olcAccess: to dn.base= by * read
- olcAccess: to dn.base=cn=schema by * read
+ olcAccess: to dn.base=cn=subschema by * read
+
+ UPDATE: the base for the schema is actually cn=subschema, and not
+ cn=schema

[Bug 429286] Re: package mysql-server-5.0 5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-09-14 Thread Mathias Gug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

According to the log files:

Unpacking mysql-server-5.0 (from
.../mysql-server-5.0_5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10.2_i386.deb) ...
ERROR: There's not enough space in /var/lib/mysql/

/var/cache/apt/archives/mysql-server-5.0_5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10.2_i386.deb
 (--unpack):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

So it seems that there isn't any space left on the device where
/var/lib/mysql/ is. Could you try to free some space and see if it
solves your problem?

2009-09-14 Thread Mathias Gug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

How long did you wait before closing the terminal?

Could you please provide the following information:

 * content of /var/log/daemon.log related to mysql processes:

/var/log/daemon.log

 * apparmor audit messages related to mysqld. The output of the command:

   egrep 'audit\(|apparmor|selinux|security' /var/log/kern.log

 * mysqld apparmor profile:

/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld

 * list of mysqld apparmor profiles:

ls -l /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld*

 * mysql configuration stripped of private information (such as
password):

/etc/mysql/my.cnf

 * extra mysql configuration from the conf.d directory:

/etc/mysql/conf.d/

 * directory listing of mysql datadir (by default /var/lib/mysql):

ls -l /var/lib/mysql

[Bug 429169] Re: ec2: Include kernel modules in AMIs

2009-09-14 Thread Eric Hammond
there presumably aren't very many modules for the EC2 kernel.

I guess this raises the questions of what modules we are talking about,
and this is an area where I wouldn't know what to cut out. I personally
depend on some which may not be considered part of the core modules
including: fuse, xfs, dm_mod, sha256, dm_crypt

You'd think that you could cut out things like sound, but I know that
some folks are using snd-dummy.ko

I don't know what other kernel modules users might be depending on today
in EC2.

[Bug 303882] Re: python-vm-builder --raw doesn't set size correctly

2009-09-14 Thread Tim Miller Dyck
I see the fix is committed above, but the

size='5G'

hardcoding on line 37 of /usr/share/pyshared/VMBuilder/disk.py is still
present in the current karmic version (python-vm-builder 0.11-0ubuntu2).
Can this patch be merged into the karmic version? Thanks!

[Bug 429734] [NEW] Invalid S3_URL and EC2_URL in eucarc

2009-09-14 Thread Etienne Goyer
Public bug reported:

On karmic using Eucalyptus 1.6~bzr672-0ubuntu3, when you use euca_conf
--get-credentials cred.zip to retrieve the certificate bundle on the
frontend, the eucarc file contains the following declaration:

export S3_URL=http://127.0.0.1:8773/services/Walrus
export EC2_URL=http://127.0.0.1:8773/services/Eucalyptus

Once you login to the web UI, change the admin password and confirm the Cloud
controller IP, you can redoanload the certificate bundle and the eucarc file
contains appropriate URL.

These values are ok if you are using the certificate bundle on the
frontend machine, but not if you transfer it to a client machine. At
the very least, this is confusing.
