[Bug 363245] Re: gtk_main leaks a file descriptor every time the main loop is run if threads have been initialized

2009-09-22 Thread Glyph Lefkowitz
Nicola, you seem to be right. From what I can tell, the offending code
is very nearly copy/pasted into pygobject in
pygmainloop.c:pyg_signal_watch_prepare. As far as I can see, pygtk
should be invoking this code, not duplicating it.

[Bug 434504] [NEW] crash when sending an email via mapi, or when viewing the sent folder

[Bug 434054] Re: Waree font too high compared to Tahoma

2009-09-22 Thread Felix Geyer
In the default installation ttf-thai-tlwg is installed, but
ttf-tahoma-replacement isn't.
So websites using Tahoma will be displayed using Waree which is 6 px higher
than Tahoma.
That causes a big gap between lines and makes website look ugly.
User won't know that installing ttf-tahoma-replacement will help and they
shouldn't have to
install additional packages to fix it.

[Bug 363533] Re: ATI Radeon HD 3670 Proprietary FGLRX Drivers break Suspend, Hibernate and major performance issues.

2009-09-22 Thread alperyilmaz
I'm suffering from same problem. The card I have is Mobility Radeon HD 4650,
model of laptop is HP Pavilion dv7 2180us
System status: fglrx is loaded and compiz is being used. Latest xorg drivers
are installed from PPA. Latest ATI driver is installed from ATI website (along
with Catalyst Center)
Problems are:
1. frequent freeze of the system. i have to hard-reboot each time, even magic
syssrq key combination does not work. I keep my fingers crossed so that freeze
does not happen in the middle of something important.
2. suspend: machine can go to sleep but cannot awake, black screen of death
(BSOD)
3. hibernate works fine (can awake successfully) but that affects video4linux
driver and webcam becomes not accessible.

[Bug 434511] [NEW] ALC861 : Mic does not work after installation

2009-09-22 Thread JK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-base

Hi!

 I'm currently trying to get the mic to work an a friend's Toshiba A100.
First I installed Ubuntu 9.04 and tried to record using audacity and the
audio-recorder but had no luck. Then I upgraded to 9.10 (Alpha 6) but
that didn't help. Within karmic, audio-recorder even crashes on exit and
sound playback is a little bit choppy and strange noises occur when
switching between windows or minimizing/maximizing them. However,
playback works while recording does not.

The weirdest thing about this bug is that is does NOT occur when using
the live system! I tried both 9.04 and 9.10 A6 live CD and succeeded to
record and playback my own voice using an external mic (there is no
builtin mic). But after the installation the mic stops working! Because
of that, I believe that it's a configuration issue rather than a bug
within the driver. I commented out all options within alsa-base.conf
(hoping to reproduce the settings from within the live session) but it
did not help. Does anybody have some suggestions?

Here are some error messages from dmesg that may be helpful:

[Bug 209705] Re: [hardy beta] gnome prompts for a passphrase when mounting encrypted drives, but required 'cryptsetup' not installed

2009-09-22 Thread Rune Svendsen
In my opinion, if cryptsetup is not included by default, the error
message presented to the user should at least be more user friendly than
the current one (I have attached a picture of it). Should this be
reported as a separate bug?

Instead it could say: Unable to mount encrypted volume. cryptsetup
package is not installed. Please install this package to enable the
usage of encrypted volumes.

[Bug 434516] [NEW] ipython (readline?) autocomplete issue

2009-09-22 Thread Joe_Bishop
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

$ apt-cache policy ipython
ipython:
  Installed: 0.9.1-3ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.9.1-3ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 0.9.1-3ubuntu2 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Enter name of existing object, then dot, then begin to enter method name. When
completion would have only one choice press tab. It completed method name and
cursor was placed just after the method name before, but now it put additional
space character after the method name, but it's a wrong behaviour because we
may call method of the method (ie put another dot after the method name).
Syntactically it's OK, they can put space after object name and then put dot,
but ipython autocompletion doesn't work after this for methods. So, we don't
need space character after any autocompletion.
Example:
In [1]: a=''

In [2]: a.strip () ### it put additional space after strip
Out[2]: ''

In [3]:

[Bug 434515] [NEW] [TOSHIBA PORTEGE R500] suspend/resume failure

Public bug reported:

It happens sometimes, not always.
The pc suspends. When I wake it up, the pc wakes up, remains active for 2-3
seconds, then it suspends automatically. If I wake it up another time, it
repeats the same steps. The only way I found is hard reboot.

[Bug 314600] Re: [HD 3650] fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic

2009-09-22 Thread Luca Maranzano
Hi,

I faced the fglrx bug on my Jaunty upgrade with my EliteBook 8530p and ATI HD
3650.
I solved it with the Catalyst version 9.5 and 9.6 (8.620) which seems quite
stable (the --acpi-services=off was still necessary) downloaded from the ATI
site.

I've also tryed the Catalyst 9.7, 9.8 and the latest 9.9. But:
- 9.7 and 9.8 have an annoying black flickering when paging up and down (for
example inside a Gnome Terminal at full screen, or in Firefox)
- 9.9 is IMHO completely broken, just after the installation I got a Kernel
NULL pointer error

Obviously I'm sticking to 9.6 :-)

So my question is: which version of Catalyst are you using for Karmic?

Thanks.
Luca

your decimal separator a '.' or a ',' ? If it is the opposite of what
you are trying to paste you may run into problems.

[Bug 434504] Re: crash when sending an email via mapi, or when viewing the sent folder

2009-09-22 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
After some more tests, it looks like evolution crashes whenever there's
still an email in the sent folder and evolution is online.

It crashed after I've launched it using evolution -c contacts.
After that I've launched evolution using --offline. It din't crash.
I've then deleted the email in the sent folder, then put evolution back online
- no crash.

[Bug 434521] [NEW] Pulseaudio refuses to use internal microphone input (Lenovo X300)

2009-09-22 Thread Jack Lecou
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Pulseaudio seems to have decided that the ALSA Mic capture device on
my machine is the only one it will use. Internal Mic is the correct
one (at least when no external mic is plugged in).

If I use alsamixer to switch to the correct capture device, the
pulseaudio volume controls instantly marks its input device as muted
(and no sound is captured with, e.g., gnome sound recorder). Un-muting
within the pulseaudio volume control again switches the alsa mixer back
to the incorrect Mic device (which captures only noise). There doesn't
seem to be any way to tell pulseaudio which capture channel to use.
Pulseaudio level meter show the same thing - noise when the incorrect
Mic device is active, but completely muted if alsamixer is used to
change to the right device.

Everything works fine if I boot a jaunty live disk - the alsa
configuration and device detection seems exactly the same, but alsamixer
can be used to switch active devices underneath pulseaudio. Sound
recorder and pulseaudio level meters show noise on the Mic device, but
correct capture when the Internal Mic is active. (And muting with the
pulseaudio only deselects the Capture level control in alsamixer, it
does not activate Mic and deactivate Internal Mic.)

This may be a duplicate of Bug #414215, but it didn't seem quite the
same to me.

There is a bashism in debian/patches/01_config_status ('==' instead of '=')

2009-09-22 Thread lazychris2000
I apologize for such a long daley, but the problem still exists with Karmic
Alpha 6.
Results are the same as post #4, above and attached are dmesg, /proc/cmdline
and /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume.
following the directions listed here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend, yielded no new information to
me, but line 513 of dmesg says PM: Resume from disk failed. This copy of
dmesg is named dmesg-debug and is also attached. After the debug steps, gnome

Since this also kills recovery and text-only mode, could we put back the
previous method of loading it in the initramfs, or would that be
inappropriate now?

[Bug 434054] Re: Waree font too high compared to Tahoma

2009-09-22 Thread Felix Geyer
 Then, why not making it installed by default?
tahoma-replacement is necessary for wine but I doubt that the quality of the
font is good enough to be installed by default.

 Without both ttf-tahoma-replacement and the fallback rule, What font is chosen
 for Tahoma? (It's still Waree for my system, Debian sid).
On Ubuntu Karmic it's DejaVu, but of course you can change the default font in
your browser if you still want to use Waree.

[Bug 434054] Re: Waree font too high compared to Tahoma

2009-09-22 Thread Felix Geyer
I suggest syncing 1:0.4.13-1 from Debian and applying a patch to remove
the fallback:

thaifonts-scalable (1:0.4.13-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Use quilt patching system
  * Remove fallback from Tahoma to Waree (LP: #434054)
- debian/patches/01_remove_tahoma_fallback.diff

 -- Felix Geyer debfx-...@fobos.de  Tue, 22 Sep 2009 10:16:46 +0200

thaifonts-scalable (1:0.4.13-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream bugfix release.
- Fix DTD conformance in fontconfig file. (LP: #387872)
- More thinkness for bold faces of TlwgTypo and TlwgTypist families.
- Fix spline direction in several fonts. (LP: #313427)
- Add variation faces to Purisa.
- Improve hints for diagonal stems.
- Improve building system.

  * New upstream version (LP: #419808)
- Finish ring rewrite. Scrollback buffer consumes ten times less
  memory now, and better, doesn't allocate from the heap, so closing
  tabs actually releases memory.
- Remove another stale assert()
- Oops, use the right map decoding function is iso2022 code
- Really fix the ring this time
- Enable g_assert(). May trigger some bogus ones now. Please report.
- gnome terminal crashes with glibc detected
- Redesigning the vte buffer ring is going on. Please report any
misbehavior
- gnome-terminal crashed with SIGSEGV after hiting ctrl+o (LP: #408745)
- text mode program rendering is strange in cjk locale.
- bashisms in shell scripts
  * Update DEB_DH_MAKESHLIBS_ARGS_ALL in debian/rules

[Bug 434527] [NEW] Compiled program misbehaves

Thread model: posix
gcc version 4.4.1 (Ubuntu 4.4.1-4ubuntu1)

I have a program that works well with 4.3 (prints zero) but prints 2
with 4.4. It's quite obvious from return statement that
atomic_test_and_reset_bit function cannot return anything except for 0
and 1...

#include stdbool.h
#include stdio.h

static bool atomic_test_and_reset_bit(unsigned long *v,unsigned long bit) {
  bool res;

  __asm__ __volatile__( btr %2,%1\n
adc $0,%0\n
:=r(res), =m(*v)
:r(bit), r(0))  ;
  return res ? 1 : 0;
}

int main(void)
{
  unsigned long flags = 0;
  int j;

  j = atomic_test_and_reset_bit(flags, 2);

  printf(%d\n, j);

  return 0;
}

[Bug 434528] [NEW] Mobile Broadband disconnects. Reboot needed.

2009-09-22 Thread faultygearbox
Public bug reported:

My Huawei E220 dongle has started to disconnect every now and then.
   It can run fine for several hours, but suddenly it can disconnect and I
cannot connect again no matter what I do (click reconnect, physically
disconnect the USB-device and plug it back in).

The only solution is a reboot after which everything is just fine again.

Here's a log that's hopefully around the time of a proper connection of
the device followed by disconnection and several attempts to get it
connected.

[Bug 421221] Re: menu entry says 'gedit' should say 'Text Editor'

2009-09-22 Thread Dan Andreșan
For consistency,
in order to match gedit Text Editor,
please rename some others,
From Application|Accesories,
As follows:

gcalctool Calculator
baobab Disk Usage Analyzer
gedit Text Editor -- done already, it looks nice

After all, this is what
Appears in the Help|About
When you click on it,
For each application
In question.

Please try
and you'll see.

thanks,
Dan.
