using:

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

Problem:

On a Karmic server edition a samba server cuts any connection if the dhcp
client renews its IP. The shell says in that moment:
Reloading /etc/samba/smb.conf smbd only

a) sambd shout keep connections as long as the server does not receive a
different IP
b) the string Reloading /etc/samba/smb.conf smbd only should be written to a
log and not direct into the shell

Work around: kill dhcp client or extend lease time on DHCP server.

This problem was also mentioned in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7992848#post7992848

[Bug 435130] [NEW] Default MANAGED-NOVLAN network setting not being applied properly

2009-09-23 Thread Soren Hansen
Public bug reported:

It turns out that our efforts to fix #425914 were insufficient. While
some scripts source eucalyptus.conf, the CC parses it itself, so our
shell code to source the installer-cc.conf is simply ignored.

We need to put the debconf values directly into eucalyptus.conf or
optionally use the new --import-conf option from euca_conf to properly
set these values.

Additionally, we need to make sure that the NC also gets the correct
value set, and not just the CC.

[Bug 312449] Re: samba-common fails to upgrade if smb.conf is deleted

2009-09-23 Thread Dr_ITGuy
Not sure if related, but samba crashed for me after uninstalling and
reinstalling. During reinstallation, I'm prompted to decide what to do
with the existing smb.conf. I make a choice (use package maintainer's
version) and subsequently it crashes, both after making this choice, and
when rebooting. Have not taken the time to research a solution yet. Will
try a default smb.conf from other machine first.

[Bug 431847] Re: Registering images gives 403 Forbidden

2009-09-23 Thread Thierry Carrez
I think I nailed it... At UTC+2 and 14:12
Timestamp received is of the form 2009-09-23T12:12:34, missing the final Z.
In clc/modules/wsstack/src/main/java/com/eucalyptus/ws/util/HmacUtils.java if
there is no timezone indication in the ISO8601 timestamp, it uses server local
time. So the message is expired by 2 hours.
Would work for all timezones = UTC.

Two options to fix:
* Set TZ to UTC before making the local time conversion in HmacUtils.java
(eucalyptus)
* Fix whatever is producing the timestamp to make it properly add Z for Zulu
time (?)

[Bug 431847] Re: Registering images gives 403 Forbidden

2009-09-23 Thread Thierry Carrez
Upon further analysis this needs to be fixed in eucalyptus itself.
clc/modules/wsstack/src/main/java/com/eucalyptus/ws/util/HmacUtils.java
evaluates all ISO8601 timestamps as local time, whether the final Z is present
or not. Forcing UTC TZ is that evaluation fixes it.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the reply.

I actually don't. Thanks for your email.
But I've not tried it after that.

I am using my Macbook for sharing a USB Internet connection over WiFi
network created on the MacBook.
I was wishing I could use Ubuntu to do that but it didn't work for me
because MacBook Air has only one USB port!

Let me know if that has worked for anyone else?

Thanks and regards

[Bug 398733] Re: Dovecot Plain auth broken in 1.1.1, fixed in 1.2.1

2009-09-23 Thread Andy Brook
I don't see the original config file attached here, so I attach (see
line 847). another dump of the current dovecot settings (which doesn't
tell me the exact release 1.1.1.XXX )

My current deb version is '1:1.1.11-0ubuntu4', which according to
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/d/dovecot/ got released in
April, so that must be the version I had then

I have just switched back from 1.2.1 to the current 1.1.1.11 ubuntu
version. Annoyingly I cannot now replicate the problem in that version.
I wonder if by installing 1.2.1 Ive overwritten the /usr/lib/dovecot
files so cannot now reproduce? this would fit as the pop login bit is
what was causing the problem.

Does the attached config file help? When would 1.2.x be coming into
Ubuntu land anyway?

In your previous config, you didn't have any mechanisms defined. I
haven't checked, but I'd guess that without those authentication
wouldn't work. Plain text mechanisms are plain and login. If you don't
use dovecot as SMTP-AUTH backend for postfix, plain is enough. 'login'
is needed for Outlook when dovecot is used as smtp-auth.

I guess your problem was in missing mechanisms. You could try removing
it (commenting it out) and then try plain text auth. Please report if
that was an issue.

2009-09-23 Thread Chuck Short
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 429106] Re: kernel and initramfs should be available for uec

2009-09-23 Thread Scott Moser
The approach I'm planning on taking here is to
a.) have linux-virtual added to the list of packages installed when vm-builder
built for ec2 and karmic
b.) modify the automated build scripts to copy out kernel and initramfs and
publish them

The reason for 'b' rather than having vmbuilder do this is
1.) time... i want to have this stuff done by beta
2.) it appears to me that a properly done copy out kernels flag to vmbuilder
would be more intrusive. to get it done right, i'd even like for the xen config
generated to use it.

[Bug 428813] Re: package slapd 2.4.15-1ubuntu3 failed to install : subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-09-23 Thread Adam Sommer
Hello,

Thanks for reporting this bug, and helping make Ubuntu better. Is this
issue still a problem for you? According to the DpkgTerminalLog:

No configuration directory was found for slapd at /etc/ldap/slapd.d/

apt-get is looking for /etc/ldap/slapd.d, and since you removed it by
hand you'll probably need to recreate it for the script to work
correctly. Can you recreate the directory, then retry the installation?

Party on,
Adam

No, I can't; the sort of response I got here had me give up on Ubuntu
quite some time ago and head back to Debian.

This bug report includes a detailed analysis and the explicit solution to the
problem, which is a faulty script.
Having y'all ignore that for, oh, nine months, then ask me to redo the
diagnosis is pretty insulting, really.

Perhaps you can glance at the script that is explicitly named, go to the
line that is explicitly named, and check to see if the explicitly named
bug is still present yourself, eh?

I guess in previous versions what happened was that winbindd wasn't

the same binaries.

In newer versions you need the modules for each idmap backend, and
ubuntu doesn't have ldap nor tdb :-(

[Bug 125687] Re: Samba does not start on boot.

2009-09-23 Thread BikeHelmet
Hi. I experienced this exact problem in Ubuntu 9.04, today.

While attempting to try to fix it I killed my network connection somehow
and had to remove purge package network-manager.

All is well now, though. For anyone that's a newbie like me, here's how
I fixed it.

These three terminal commands were necessary:

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf
sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

1) Restarts networking. Saves you a reboot after changing settings and trying
to get it to work. Also spat out helpful debug messages - helpful in the sense
I could google them, and ended up here. ;)
2) Opens config file, where you can enter your router IP. I entered this:

nameserver 192.168.1.1

3) Opens a config file, where you can set up static IP stuff. Note that
I have two gigabit ethernet ports. Internet won't work unless you add
auto eth# for the port you have plugged in. Also, according to an
article I read, if your connection ever breaks after a kernel update,
the kernel may have flipped how it orders interfaces, so you should try
plugging the cable into the other port. I entered this:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.116
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.1.115
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

Works like a charm now, and Samba starts correctly at boot.

[Bug 435050] [NEW] package libpq5 8.3.8-0ubuntu9.04 failed to install/upgrade: package libpq5 is already installed and configured

2009-09-23 Thread Bjørn Roald
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postgresql-8.3

package postgresql-8.3 8.3.8-0ubuntu9.04 failed to install/upgrade:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

The automatic security upgrade failed to be installed.
I got some sudo confirm password popup screens 2 or 3 password was already
confirmed so this was odd. I don't really know if that was related to the
package that failed to install or some of the other package. Olso one popup
dialog reported the postgresql failure and a line with bullet saying the server
failed to start.

I expected the automatic security upgrade to install with no failures. I
do not know what uses psql on my system, if anything. So this may have
been a latent problem on my system, I can do some testing if I get hint
of what to look for.

[Bug 400748] Re: xl2tpd connection speed is too low

2009-09-23 Thread Joe_Bishop
2.6.31-10 partially improved this. Today it only 2 times slower on
download and about 4 times slower on upload. But the whole system
sometimes hangs on, so no keyboard/mouse/etc doesn't work, and then
leaves it after are minute or something.

[Bug 32457] Re: gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games

2009-09-23 Thread Chris Cowan
I just noticed today that this problem also shows up while using
KVM/QEMU (current kvm package from ubuntu reps). While running a
virtualized system that has control of the mouse, the screensaver
doesn't notice any keypresses or mouse input as long as the mouse is
grabbed by KVM's SDL window, and starts after 5 minutes. It at least
detaches the mouse at the same time properly, so if you move the mouse
quickly you can cancel it and click back to KVM. Pretty annoying,
especially if I'm in the middle of a task in the VM.
