[Bug 463684] Re: dpkg-reconfigure slapd wizard configuration isn't complete

2009-11-04 Thread Mathias Gug
Correct. This is because the slapd package has been updated in karmic.
See bug 442498.

This is an issue with the ubuntu server guide.

[Bug 199992] Re: 1.3.4 beta won't get passed welcome dialog - 100% CPU

2009-11-04 Thread Steve Sinclair
I booted off a Karmic live CD to test this bug again.

Audacity pauses at the welcome screen for a long time, but this time it
did in fact eventually allow me to close the dialog. For a second
program was usable and I could see that after loading test.wav, it had
created a few _hundred_ tracks, called test1, test2, etc.. I tried
to scroll down to see how many tracks it had created but the program
became unresponsive and the CPU is now running at 100% doing something,
presumably swapping memory or something. Eventually the whole desktop
started periodically freezing, and I had to manage to click on my
terminal window and Ctrl-C the process in order to be able to finish
this message.

I think there is clearly an input bug in Audacity that is not properly
validating a maximum number of tracks, or otherwise not realizing that
the computer cannot handle the load demanded by this corrupt file.

[Bug 138586] Re: Gnometris controls very unresponsive when keys are held down

2009-11-04 Thread Frederik Elwert
jal, which version of GNOME/Gnometris are you using?

With 2.28, the graphics engine seems to have bin ported to OpenGL. The
lagging graphics issue of previous versions seems to have gone with that
version. But I noticed that the new OpenGL animation leads to a lag of
some milliseconds that make it hard to get through the upper levels. I
think this is not a bug, but by design. Still it might be nice to have
an option to disable the animation to get more precise control.

your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a
5 sec barrier which your system likely exceeded. Typically you'll see
something similar to PM: resume devices took 8.664 seconds in your
dmesg output when this happens. A patch to prevent this warning has
been applied via bug 464552. As a result I'm marking this as a
duplicate to bug 464552. Please continue to track this issue at that
report. Thanks!

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately.]

[Bug 468741] Re: Hidden SSID WLAN doesn't work under Ubuntu.9.10 - tested on Lenovo T500 and DELL

2009-11-04 Thread woods
Just to confirm that I am also having problems with connecting to hidden
wireless networks on 9.10, using a netgear MA111 usb wireless adapter.

Strangely I can connect to my hidden network by creating a new
connection (inputting the SSID and passphrase through network manager)
but once I disconnect the only way I can re-connect is to restart the
machine and create a new network (the one I created earlier just has a
greyed connection button as others have described)

Unfortunately my router is supplied by my ISP who have modified it so I
can't unhide the SSID

[Bug 297796] Re: vpnc issue with /etc/resolv.conf prevents connection

2009-11-04 Thread llamahunter
I believe this is the same root problem as I'm seeing in Karmic. The
vpnc generated nameservers get added to the *end* of the resolv.conf
list, rather than the beginning. Thus, nameserver requests for hosts
reachable over the VPN connection fail because the non-VPN nameservers
respond first saying that the address does not exist.

A workaround is to reorder the entries in resolv.conf so that the vpnc
generated nameserver is first. It is tedious to do this by hand every
time one connects via VPN. This was not an issue in Jaunty (for me, at
least). The real fix is to have resolvconf or whatever writes the
resolv.conf file to put the vpnc generated nameserver first
automatically. An even better fix would be to support split DNS for
hostname resolution.

2009-11-04 Thread Richard Mathie
same here suspend with a sd card mounted in the left hand slot results in
suspend freezing before it has completed.
i have also tryed the pciehp.pciehp_force=1 kernal cmd line option in grub2
with update-grup and backports. and this failed to resolve the issue, manualy
unmounting the drive before suspend works, but this is a little inconvenient as
forgetting to do so before shuting the lid will also result in a frozen suspend.

are you shure that the pciehp module is in the backports, i cand find it
with modprob.

i will just sit tight for now and see if the next kernal update fixes
things

This bug seems to have been *wrongly* marked as fixed released.
Confirmed with others that the notifications are still eth0 and as such.
If it is working properly for anyone knidly report back. Thanks!

@Andrew : Always , Kindly check before marking bugs as fix released...

[Bug 474543] [NEW] Unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade to 9.10

2009-11-04 Thread Don Estberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the
'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/
in the bug report.

I tried removing firefox-3.5 since that was the only thing I could think
of that was not standard 9.04, but didn't help.

[Bug 474364] Re: no sound: snd_powermac fails to load

2009-11-04 Thread Joseph Sacco
True... I was unable to change the state of those mixer controls.

I am wondering if the problem involves a race condition during boot up.
After rebooting several times [I am running 3 different operating
systems] sound has magically returned. The headphone mixer control in
this current session can be muted and un-muted at will.

[Bug 473139] Re: gnome-keyring demands unspecified password, breaking svn commits

2009-11-04 Thread Raghu
 rm ~/.gnome2/keyrings/login.keyring

this worked for me too. Thanks.

the restriction is not wanted, not sure what is going on there bug you
can choose to cache your ssh key in gnome-keyring in which case the ssh
agent will not to unblock the keyring to access it, I've not seen
command line prompts about those though

Thanks Sebastien. Do you think this bug is still incomplete?
It is only a https:// access not a ssh access to the svn server.

Any good pointers to overview of Keyring in Ubuntu/Gnome would be
appreciated.

Re: [Bug 472857] Re: No sound

2009-11-04 Thread evelan
Thank you, it works :O

2009/11/4 Daniel T Chen seven.st...@gmail.com

It seems that after upgrading to Karmic you are still
booting a non-Karmic kernel. There may have been an
issue updating grub during the upgrade.

 Please try:
  sudo mv /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.lst.backup
  sudo update-grub
  sudo reboot

 After rebooting run:
  uname -a

Verify that the kernel you are now booting is of the
 2.6.31 variety.

[Bug 465619] Re: apport enabled after a distribution upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic

2009-11-04 Thread Michael Vogt
I can confirm that that the apport fix works. I did a upgrade 0.126.6
and it enabled apport during the upgrade. After the upgrade apport was
still enabled. When I then enabled karmic-proposed and installed apport
it disabled apport again (as expected).

It references this page, which is not specifically mentioned in this bug report:

I attempted to add the GRUB 2 information but apparently am not

[Bug 474550] [NEW] Karmic seems not to able to shut down in my laptop.

2009-11-04 Thread Martin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hello.

I’m using Ubuntu Karmic and my laptop doesn’t want to shut down : when I
click on the graphical interface “Shut Down”, it yields my logout, but
then nothing appenned : I just returns to gdm. It produce the same
result when clicking on “restart”...

I try to type “sudo halt -f” on a terminal.
Bash just write one line, and then it return to a normal state, as I’ve just
type “ls” or something like.
Here are the line written :
halt: relocation error: halt: symbol __abort_msg, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not
defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

It doesn’t disturb me for now, while I use the hibernate option — which
works perfectly well.

I just find it suspect, and I prefer to repport the bug.
I’ve use ubuntu-bug, so I think additionnal informations has been added to this
post.

Hoping that it will help the community.
Martin.

The problem is that the noise is so incredibly high in comparison with my

[Bug 469470] Re: proprietary nvidia driver does not work under karmic

2009-11-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Kai-Simon,

The Xorg.0.log*s attached here are just showing the -nv booting session,
which sounds like not what you're interested in. What we need are logs
from an attempt to boot with nvidia installed. We'll need both the
corresponding Xorg.0.log for that session (which may be called
Xorg.0.log.old) and the gdm log file (found in /var/log/gdm/). One or
the other of those should indicate why it is not loading nvidia.

My guess is that you need to have the BusID specified for -nvidia,
although if you're doing reinstalls of the driver it *should* do that
for you.

[Bug 472817] Re: Metadata scraper data not visable

2009-11-04 Thread MarcRandolph
Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve Mythbuntu by opening this
ticket. After talking with the developers about this, neither a pop-up
window or scrolling text area is likely to be implemented by upstream.
If someone is interested in submitting a ticket, they may entertain it,
but know that it would have to seemlessly fit into the look and feel of
the new MythUI.

Please do not let the closing of this issue deter you from opening
tickets on other issues!

[Bug 443026]

2009-11-04 Thread crashsystems
I still seem to be having a problem. I tried printing Aufgabe01.pdf on a
fresh install with all updates applied (as of 20 minutes ago). Two pages
printed, but each was blank except for what looks like gibberish at the top.
I've uploaded photos of each page to this comment, as well as the log file
generated by the troubleshoot wizard in printer configuration. The printer I
tested on is a Lexmark X652de.

It looks to me like ether this bug is not fixed, I've discovered a new bug,
or my printer hates me.

[Bug 474556] [NEW] Tools in 2.28.0 now must start with a shebang #! line.

2009-11-04 Thread Doug McNutt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Tools in 2.28.0 now must start with a shebang #! line at least in Ubuntu 9.10
The shebang line must point to a shell. But...
#!/usr/bin/perl seems to be an exception to that.

There is no longer a procedure to simply pass files that don't start with #! to
a default shell.
That's understandable but it needs to be right up front as a significant change.

Somewhere a #! line needs to get converted to an execve kernel call. Is gedit
doing it?
Or is gedit passing the task off to a shell? If so is gedit passing arguments
in the #! line?
If I try to put a call to, say, curl in the #! line the arguments are not
handled well.

In transfering control to tcsh my .tcshrc is getting called as a remote
login which triggers a login message of my creation. That shouldn't be
happening when gedit opens a new shell. Gedit seems to be setting
environment variable $REMOTEHOST which is tested by my .tcshrc file.

Bash shows essentially the same characteristics.
