So far my fix is one of: 1. Run the cron job more often so it doesn't fill the thing so much it can't be deleted (poor hack) 2. Remove the -0 option to xargs in /etc/cron.d/php5 - Since -0 is new to me and seems to have little documentation I am not sure what this will break. 3. Change the lifetime of the session files in /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime Only 2 is a good solution but I am still wondering why they used -0 and if there is a valid reason for it. ** This could of course be a bug in xargs but it manifests in php5 and since I don't have a clue what -0 is meant to do, I am not going there... [Bug 438873] Re: Compiz crashes after leaving a fullscreen application
I would imagine that my problem is related here: the OpenGL screensaver BlinkBox has, on numerous occasions, appeared to cause Compiz to freak out and die after a period of usage (ie, not immediately when the screensaver starts up, but after a while, when I come back to my machine, it appears to be locked up). Sometimes I can get my machine back into a decent state by turning off compiz and turning it back on again. Sometimes X is so unresponsive that I have to restart gdm. Once, the whole machine appeared to be completely locked up and I had to reboot. I didn't have this issue with Jaunty -- but it may be related rather to the drivers? I've noticed some people having issues with the nvidia 185 drivers (and we can't install the previously working 180 drivers because it's just a dummy package ): ). I'm about to try installing the 173 drivers to see if that fixes the problem. [Bug 402188] Re: gvim complains about gtk_form_set_static_gravity: assertion `static_gravity_supported' failed in the shell it's started from
Philip, that PS is kind of pointless. You can safely assume that people who do experience the bug do want to run gvim not vim, or they wouldn't care about this bug. Last but not least, even if you're running gvim from the K menu or any other setup that doesn't display stderr, output from stderr ends up in ~/.xsession-errors. That file just keeps growing and growing, and because it's a . file, you tend to forget about it when trying to figure out where all your disk space on /home went. Launchpad lacks a setting that will tell people that this bug will be fixed for 10.04 but not for 9.10, so the folks using 9.10 will stop posting affects me too reports. ( By the way, should the this bug affects me too link on the top of the page be made more obvious? ) -- gvim complains about gtk_form_set_static_gravity: assertion `static_gravity_supported' failed in the shell it's started from https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/402188 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 390001] Re: Gnome visual effects not retained after reboot
I just reported Bug 482539 but it has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. I am not sure that it is but . . . I had Jaunty installed and decided to switch from No visual effects (Metacity) to Normal visual effects (Compiz) after this change Metacity never worked again despite being installed and my chopice of Normal visual effects was not remembered. Thus whenever I log out and login my session starts with no windows manager. So it appears similar to this bug reports except that it is a per session not a per boot issue as the title suggests. Moreover this bug is reported as fixed by switching to Karmic. I have just upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic and I still have the I don't get a window manager on login problem. I have no idea what communication failure there is between Gnome, Metacity, Compiz, etc. but it has clearly broken down in a big way. I should also point out Bug 482538: The Compiz settings that I set up are forgotten across logins as well. All this seems to lead towards a break down of user specified state logging during a session. -- Gnome visual effects not retained after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 468011] Re: Bookmarks icons (favicons) are never refreshed
** Description changed: Binary package hint: firefox-3.5 Hi, just updated to Karmic. I imported all of my bookmarks in the new Firefox 3.5, and to my surprise I noticed than when i load a bookmarked page the program refuse to update/refresh the tiny bookmark icon, leaving the default web link one. It's strange, because I also use Firefox 3.5 on a Windows machine at work, and this problem doesn't exists there. I can post an image if you need it. I think that this bug is quite annoying, because I work with lots of bookmarks and the icons are very useful to find the needed one quickly, now they all have the same icon, a bit confusing. Regards + + EDIT 11-15-2009: + Come on guys, I filled this bug on 11-01-2009 and nobody have looked at it? The other bug reports about favicons are incomplete in my opinion: the whole favicons stuff is affected by this bug. I work with tons of bookmarks and I always keep the bookmark side toolbar opened while browsing (Ctrl+B to toggle it on/ff). Having favicons simply speeds up everything, not having them dramaticaly reduces usability. + The posted image reproduces the bookmarks side bar and you can clearly see the problem. -- Bookmarks icons (favicons) are never refreshed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/468011 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 449234] Re: Using usb-creator to format a USB drive does not succeed
Same here on 0.2.12. (!) It is also tries to format a valid partition: I insert sdi device: sdi1 256MB FAT32 sdi2 1684MB FAT32 But usb-creator-gtk does not like sdi2 and says it needs to be formated. Then it formats the whole drive (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/446891) but result is a corrupted partition. -- Using usb-creator to format a USB drive does not succeed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
