[Bug 251632] Re: DHCP client should not create temporary files in /etc

2009-11-15 Thread Mikael Ståldal
OK, I have made a new patch according to what nfm says, for the new
version of dhclient-script in 9.10.

Could someone please apply this now, so I don't have to do this again
for 10.04?

2009-11-15 Thread pingou67
this upstream bug looks like the same (even if the trace doesn't match
exactly) :

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14376

It seems it's a regression between 2.6.30.6 and 2.6.31.2, unfortunately
without solution.

[Bug 482720] Re: Php cron job fails when there are a lot of session files in /var/lib/php5

2009-11-15 Thread Kees Cook
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

I figured, but I wasn't sure it fit into a DDOS category so I flagged it
just in case :)

The cron job /etc/cron.d/php5 is meant to clear out /var/lib/php5 of old
session files, which is fine generally... But:

The cron job uses xargs with the -0 option - This is the effect on a
cleanish and newly purged (30 seconds ago) directory:

 r...@eris:/var/lib/php5# find . -print | xargs -0
 .
 ./sess_3cf1404393d2ed9f2ca38c18fe74faba

 ./sess_92b65c8a5f82700dd9f6e6166ba98019

 r...@eris:/var/lib/php5#

However - This is a very full directory such as the one that completely
 filled my disk yesterday:

 r...@eris:/var/lib/php5# find . -print | xargs -r -0
 xargs: argument line too long
 r...@eris:/var/lib/php5#

This results in the disk with /var on it filling and the system becoming
completely unusable - Which is why I ticked the security vulnerability since
effectively, this is a DOS, you may feel free to disagree.

So far my fix is one of:

 1. Run the cron job more often so it doesn't fill the thing so much it
 can't be deleted (poor hack)
 2. Remove the -0 option to xargs in /etc/cron.d/php5 - Since -0 is new to
me and seems to have little documentation I am not sure what this will
 break.
 3. Change the lifetime of the session files in /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime

Only 2 is a good solution but I am still wondering why they used -0 and if
there is a valid reason for it.

** This could of course be a bug in xargs but it manifests in php5 and
since I don't have a clue what -0 is meant to do, I am not going there...

 Michael.

[Bug 483427] [NEW] if-pre-up.d script points to script in /usr

2009-11-15 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bridge-utils

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 35 2009-07-25 08:04 /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/bridge -
/usr/share/bridge-utils/ifupdown.sh

If /usr is a separate partition (on NFS, but possibly otherwise), it
won't be mounted when the kernel initializes a network interface. In
this case, /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/bridge then becomes a dangling
symlink and the ifupdown script not run. wpasupplicant had a similar
problem and solved this by putting its if-pre-up.d file in /etc.

[Bug 365874] Re: curl error: necessary data rewind wasn't possible

2009-11-15 Thread unchiujar
An alternative method of hacking around this problem is to install
virtualenv http://pypi.python.org/pypi/virtualenv

Create virtual environment:
virtualenv -p python2.4 /usr/share/virtual_python2.4

Edit the bazaar executable:

nano -w $(which bzr)

and replace #!/usr/bin/python with
#!/usr/share/virtual_python2.4/bin/python

Also run export PYTHONPATH=/usr/share/pyshared to give the path to
bzrlib

This keeps the current version of python while running bzr with python
2.4

[Bug 438873] Re: Compiz crashes after leaving a fullscreen application

2009-11-15 Thread daf
I would imagine that my problem is related here: the OpenGL screensaver
BlinkBox has, on numerous occasions, appeared to cause Compiz to freak
out and die after a period of usage (ie, not immediately when the
screensaver starts up, but after a while, when I come back to my
machine, it appears to be locked up). Sometimes I can get my machine
back into a decent state by turning off compiz and turning it back on
again. Sometimes X is so unresponsive that I have to restart gdm. Once,
the whole machine appeared to be completely locked up and I had to
reboot.

I didn't have this issue with Jaunty -- but it may be related rather to
the drivers? I've noticed some people having issues with the nvidia 185
drivers (and we can't install the previously working 180 drivers because
it's just a dummy package ): ).

I'm about to try installing the 173 drivers to see if that fixes the
problem. Alternatively, I'll try the nvidia ppa with the latest beta
drivers (at my own risk, of course (: )

[Bug 342447] Re: Bluetooth mouse connection in Jaunty not working at startup and drops when resuming from a low power state

2009-11-15 Thread Oded Arbel
I'm using Karmic with a Logitech bluetooth mouse and the Lenovo
Thinkpad's internal bluetooth adapter, and after I resume from sleep the
mouse does not work - it shows up as connected in the bluetooth devices
list, and even if I disconnect and reconnect (from the mouse or the
computer) it still does not work.

If I re-pair the device it also does not work - only after a reboot I
can get the mouse to move the pointer.

Is this the same behavior experienced by the reporters on this bug?

[Bug 472786] Re: lighttpd shuts down without any notice in the log file when certain clients try to connect

2009-11-15 Thread Kai Blin
For some reason, I can't reproduce this anymore.. I did update the
kernel due to some unrelated issue, perhaps the old kernel caused more
problems. Marking as invalid. Sorry about the noise.

I can confirm this bug. However this is not the correct way to use this

should be fixed.

[Bug 192757] Re: 00menu.jl causes error at startup

2009-11-15 Thread Massimo Dal Zotto
Confirmed in Ubuntu 9.10.

If the menu package is not installed sawfish starts but the middle mouse
menu is not available and is not possible to launch any application.

A possible solution could be something like this:

inst=/etc/menu-methods/sawfish
if [ -f $inst ]; then
chmod a+x $inst
if [ -x `which update-menus 2/dev/null` ]; then
update-menus
else
generate-default-sawfish-debian-menu

[Bug 328679] Re: keyboard bindings partially ignored

2009-11-15 Thread Scaine
As comment three points out, you need the compiz-settings-manager to
enable gnome-compatibilty to get your keyboard shortcuts back (although
this should be auto-detected and added automatically by Karmic). This
app also includes a reset to default value button on almost all
effects. You can use this to reset the bindings you've chnaged.

[Bug 402188] Re: gvim complains about gtk_form_set_static_gravity: assertion `static_gravity_supported' failed in the shell it's started from

2009-11-15 Thread Kai Blin
Philip, that PS is kind of pointless.
You can safely assume that people who do experience the bug do want to run gvim
not vim, or they wouldn't care about this bug. Last but not least, even if
you're running gvim from the K menu or any other setup that doesn't display
stderr, output from stderr ends up in ~/.xsession-errors. That file just keeps
growing and growing, and because it's a . file, you tend to forget about it
when trying to figure out where all your disk space on /home went.

Launchpad lacks a setting that will tell people that this bug will be
fixed for 10.04 but not for 9.10, so the folks using 9.10 will stop
posting affects me too reports. ( By the way, should the this bug
affects me too link on the top of the page be made more obvious? )

[Bug 390001] Re: Gnome visual effects not retained after reboot

2009-11-15 Thread Russel Winder
I just reported Bug 482539 but it has been marked as a duplicate of this
bug.

I am not sure that it is but . . .

I had Jaunty installed and decided to switch from No visual effects
(Metacity) to Normal visual effects (Compiz) after this change
Metacity never worked again despite being installed and my chopice of
Normal visual effects was not remembered. Thus whenever I log out and
login my session starts with no windows manager. So it appears similar
to this bug reports except that it is a per session not a per boot issue
as the title suggests. Moreover this bug is reported as fixed by
switching to Karmic. I have just upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic and I
still have the I don't get a window manager on login problem.

I have no idea what communication failure there is between Gnome,
Metacity, Compiz, etc. but it has clearly broken down in a big way.

I should also point out Bug 482538: The Compiz settings that I set up
are forgotten across logins as well. All this seems to lead towards a
break down of user specified state logging during a session.

[Bug 468011] Re: Bookmarks icons (favicons) are never refreshed

2009-11-15 Thread ubuntolo
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Hi, just updated to Karmic. I imported all of my bookmarks in the new Firefox
3.5, and to my surprise I noticed than when i load a bookmarked page the
program refuse to update/refresh the tiny bookmark icon, leaving the default
web link one.
It's strange, because I also use Firefox 3.5 on a Windows machine at work,
and this problem doesn't exists there.
I can post an image if you need it. I think that this bug is quite annoying,
because I work with lots of bookmarks and the icons are very useful to find the
needed one quickly, now they all have the same icon, a bit confusing.
  Regards
+
+ EDIT 11-15-2009:
+ Come on guys, I filled this bug on 11-01-2009 and nobody have looked at it?
The other bug reports about favicons are incomplete in my opinion: the whole
favicons stuff is affected by this bug. I work with tons of bookmarks and I
always keep the bookmark side toolbar opened while browsing (Ctrl+B to toggle
it on/ff). Having favicons simply speeds up everything, not having them
dramaticaly reduces usability.
+ The posted image reproduces the bookmarks side bar and you can clearly see
the problem.

[Bug 449234] Re: Using usb-creator to format a USB drive does not succeed

2009-11-15 Thread Psy[H[]
Same here on 0.2.12.

(!) It is also tries to format a valid partition:

I insert sdi device:
sdi1 256MB FAT32
sdi2 1684MB FAT32

But usb-creator-gtk does not like sdi2 and says it needs to be formated.
Then it formats the whole drive
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/446891) but
result is a corrupted partition.

[Bug 468413] Re: Radeon module loaded before agpgart

2009-11-15 Thread Cyril BUQUET
Confirmed form me (kubuntu 9.10 up to date)

The workaround with /etc/modprobe.d/radeon.conf don't work for me

This workaround work for me :
edit /etc/init/kdm.conf and add two ligne before exec kdm

...
initctl emit starting-dm DM=kdm

# fix pour imposer un chargement de radeon en dernier
modprobe -r radeon
modprobe radeon
exec kdm

end script

May by this workaround can help
