[Bug 483984] Re: flash player while watching youtube is very slow and video crashes frequently

2009-11-25 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please generate an apport
crash report for this?
You can enable apport for one instance like this:
sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport restart

I am marking this invalid as apport will open a new bug when the crash
is generated. If it does not, you can reset the status of this one to
New and we will try something else.

[Bug 478361] Re: ubuntu 9.10 doesn't resume after sleep macbook pro 4, 1

2009-11-25 Thread lubuntu
just did the regular ubuntu update, which has the new kernel:

2.6.31-15-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 10 14:53:52 UTC 2009 x86_64
GNU/Linux

Still I cannot suspend my macbook pro 4,1.

I've tried as well to add SLEEP_MODULE=uswsusp to

/etc/pm/config.d/00sleep_module

but this did resolve the issue. What _did_ change is that with the
uswsusp module set in this file the screen goes blank as usual, but it
comes back with the console login and a flickering prompt. It is still
stuck at this point: no keyboard/mouse/lid/powerbutton interaction will
work and I am forced to turn the laptop off by keeping the powerbutton
pressed for several seconds.

Could someone explain which route is followed for a suspend action? I
just found there's a (conflicting?) script

/etc/acpi/suspend.d/50-wicd-suspend.sh

There seem be many possibilities to do a suspend and there's still
several hal files on my computer, so I'm a bit lost with
hal/pm/uswsusp/acpi/udev/dbus and possible kernel options to test.

[Bug 488113] [NEW] ext4 corruption on files

2009-11-25 Thread edv
Public bug reported:

I'm getting corruption with pretty much all files. Clean install of 9.10 amd64,
ext4 with install-time encryption of /home.
Here's one example of downloading FreeBSD 8.0, the correct md5sum is
ace0afedfa7c6e0ad12c77b6652b02ab.

1. Downloaded the file with Firefox, then check md5sum - incorrect
e...@ferro:~/Downloads$ md5sum 8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso
0ac4da7da253900ccf5dcbb89acd9fec 8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso

2. Load up transmission, use official FreeBSD bittorrent tracker, verify local
data and let transmission fix the file - md5sum is incorrect
e...@ferro:~/Downloads/8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1$ md5sum
8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso
e73c5f96f12c83c2330829c21d349ace 8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso

3. Repeat the above process a few times, letting transmission verify the local
data and use the sync command - incorrect
e...@ferro:~/Downloads/8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1$ md5sum
8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso
e73c5f96f12c83c2330829c21d349ace 8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso

e73c5f96f12c83c2330829c21d349ace 8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso

4. Copy the data to an USB stick with a fat32 partition and let transmission
verifycomplete the data there - CORRECT
e...@ferro:~/Downloads$ cp -R 8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1/ /media/KINGSTONUSB/
e...@ferro:~/Downloads$ cd /media/KINGSTONUSB/
e...@ferro:/media/KINGSTONUSB$ cd 8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1/

8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso
ace0afedfa7c6e0ad12c77b6652b02ab 8.0-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso

This is just one example, I'm getting similar corruption with pretty
much anything I download to my /home. I changed relatime to noatime in
fstab and other stuff - no change. md5sum of downloaded files still
doesn't match.

[Bug 215810] Re: share folder does not appear

2009-11-25 Thread PeterNZ
Frankly this is pathetic. I have combed these sites for two days now
simply trying to share a folder in 8.04 LTS and it's a needle in the
haystack looking for advice. I've installed Nautilus Share (doesn't
work, simply resets - after reboot). Installed Samba (which is overkill
anyway) and which I don't really understand. Why can you not share your
files with other users on the same authentication system without having
to jump through a million hoops? It should be a right click - select
user -done! Its stupid stuff like this that makes people return to XP.

[Bug 485238] Re: apport ValueError('need more than 1 value to unpack', )

2009-11-25 Thread X3
Well if I said Karmic then it was karmic, like I said the documentation
does point to that.

On another note could you be a gentleman and ping someone to get some
ball rolling on other bug report since it will either be addressed
properly with the introduction of a decently working kernel on the
2.6.32 family.

Im not using Karmic as a minimal install anymore for various reason
mainly the kernel bugs. which reminds me when I have the time to report
other bugs with the minimal .isos Karmic seems to me to have been rammed
out the door.

[Bug 229981] Re: Error while printing with HP Laserjet: 40 EIO Transmission Error

2009-11-25 Thread dpg77
I'm using 9.04 - the Jaunty Jackalope

I had the same problem with a hp 4050 tn printer and every other driver worked
except the HP Laserjet 4050 Series Postscript [en] (recommended)
This was great no errors but couldn't setup duplexer or 3rd tray for the
printer.

this was using the default HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP)

I changed the connection type to APPSocket/HP JetDirect

and off it went no errors and no problems accessing duplexer or 3rd
tray.

not a fix but maybe a workaround for the problem so people can use trays
or duplex units.

[Bug 465535] Re: Restricted Drivers (jocky) not detecting Broadcom STA or B43 Drivers

2009-11-25 Thread tamalet
A few comments.
I plugged in an ethernet cable and installed bcmwl-kernel-source. After a
reboot the STA driver showed up in Restricted Drivers, but no wireless network
was detected.
Since this was a fresh install, I thought it may be easier to just reinstall
Ubuntu. I did it, but again the wireless driver did not show up. Since I had
other problems (after updating Firefox would not start), I reinstalled Ubuntu
again, but this time I plugged the ethernet cable while installing.
Fortunately, everything worked fine this time.

I think that on previous installations I didn't experience this bug
because I always had an ethernet connection.

For the record, I have a Dell Latitude D420, with a Broadcom wireless
card BCM4312 802.11a/b/g.

[Bug 485238] Re: apport ValueError('need more than 1 value to unpack', )

2009-11-25 Thread X3
###Also, the error you got shows that it was actually reading the
.apport file and stumbled over an invalidly formatted line. If there
###were problems with recognizing the command line arguments, it would
have looked completely different.

Well in this case some bug does exist in the minimal install flavour
which it is quite beyond me since you dont see the same, however that
may be the erro was as described and whaever caused it did it to more
than one file.

Pehaps the Karmic documentation on this should be revised and the root
of why this has happened on a minimal install spits out that error when
like you say it should have outputed that -c is invalid to start with.

regards.

[Bug 54024] Re: WIN key SUPER_L should be mapped to Applications menu

2009-11-25 Thread Marco Di Fresco
I add my vote to the idea to allow the use of the Super key both as a
single key (to open the application menu) AND as modifier (Super+D to
minimize all application, Super+R for Run dialog windows, etc.).

Still Antonio Roberts and others are right about users with different
need than the Windows behavior; so it will be better to set it as a
possible keyboard profile configurable in the control panel (... wasn't
already so in older Kubuntu releases with KDE 3.X?).

[Bug 487759] Re: apport doesn't include Package in report when invoked on core dump

2009-11-25 Thread Martin Pitt
Apport avoids expensive operations (such as finding the corresponding
package, checking md5sums, etc.) at the time the core dump happens. This
information is added when re-processing the .crash report in the UI. For
apport-retrace you can use -R (see manpage).
