[Bug 492235] [NEW] mDNS for CC hostname is only available while eucalyptus-cc is running
Public bug reported: With respect to /etc/init/eucalyptus-cc-publication-ip.conf is it entirely necessary to withdraw the hostname.local mDNS entry when eucalyptus-cc is stopped? I note that the CC is announced separately at a service level, so I suspect there is no harm in continuing to announce the presence of the hostname. (I only noticed this because I have a machine under my TV that I use for occasional eucalyptus testing and I couldn't ssh to it via its usual .local address) ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- mDNS for CC hostname is only available while eucalyptus-cc is running https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492235 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 274350] Re: apparmor HOMEDIRS not adjusted for likewise
We talked about this at UDS Lucid and this is something I'd like to fix for Lucid. Conceptually, this is not too hard, since all we should have to do is adjust /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home to have: @{hom...@{homedirs}/*/ /root/ @{HOMEDIRS}=/home/ /home/*/ However, this gets quite complicated with rule evaluation, eg the tcpdump profile has: audit deny @{HOME}/bin/ rw, audit deny @{HOME}/bin/** mrwkl, @{HOME}/ r, @{HOME}/** rw, After making the above change to tunables, this evaluates to (omitting /root/): audit deny /home/*/bin/ rw, audit deny /home/*/*/bin/ rw, audit deny /home/*/bin/** mrwkl, audit deny /home/*/*/bin/** mrwkl, /home/*/ r, /home/*/*/ r, /home/*/** rw, /home/*/*/** rw, This is at best overly complicated and at worst could change the profile in unexpected ways. If we want to support both local and likewise homedirs, I think something else needs to happen. Would it be possible to change the default location of likewise? Eg, adjust lwiauthd.conf (AIUI) to somewhere outside of /home would be ideal, but even having: template homedir = /home/likewise-open/%D/%U would be an improvement. Then we could do: @{hom...@{homedirs}/*/ /root/ @{HOMEDIRS}=/home/ /home/likewise-open/*/ which evaluates to (again, /root/ omitted): audit deny /home/*/bin/ rw, audit deny /home/likewise-open/*/*/bin/ rw, audit deny /home/*/bin/** mrwkl, audit deny /home/likewise-open/*/*/bin/** mrwkl, /home/*/ r, /home/likewise-open/*/*/ r, /home/*/** rw, /home/likewise-open/*/*/** rw, This is much better, since only a system with a local user with home directory of '/home/likewise-open' would have the problems described above. This seems acceptable and easier than moving likewise outside of /home. If we do decide to move the directory, I advise adjusting lwiauthd.conf to have: # Changing template homedir will also require adjusting the AppArmor home # tunable in /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home for systems that use AppArmor. # See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor#Adjusting%20Tunables # for details. template homedir = /home/likewise-open/%D/%U ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: likewise-open (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = High -- apparmor HOMEDIRS not adjusted for likewise https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274350 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to likewise-open in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 492186] [NEW] vlookup exact does not mean exact
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org The help for vlookup says for the 4th parameter: in unordered lists the searched value must match exact. In OOo trailing spaces are not taken into account. This is not bad on its own, but is an incomptibility to MS-office, so tables safed as .xls look fine in OOo but fail in ms-office. In the attached file the value ref2 at cell A7 has a trailing space, the searchvalue in A20 has not. In OOo displayes a non-error-result in cell F20, while ms-office displayesa #NV value. I filed this against OpenOffice.org directly in bug http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=107380. The answer was: You can configure OOo what kind of exact you want to use. Goto Tools Options Calc Calculate. Check the item Search criteria and must apply to whole cells to get the same behavior as Excel. I tested this with the windows version and they are true. But with OpenOffice.org (same build: 9420) on ubuntu the Search criteria and must apply to whole cells option has no effect on the example file, so I think it a ubuntu specific bug. [Bug 488103] Re: Poor support for MacBook Pro 5, 1: noise, no jack sense, no in-line headset microphones, broken volume control
I updated the description to describe a headphone noise problem with mb5. Truly, there is no acceptable choice. I guess I'll listen to music on headphones from mbp3, and switch to mb5 when I really need the speakers. :'( ** Description changed: I have carefully read through these bugs: - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/337314 - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/433633 - https://bugs.launchpad.net/alsa-driver/+bug/396563 + https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/337314 + https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/433633 + https://bugs.launchpad.net/alsa-driver/+bug/396563 They conflate a bunch of snd_hda_intel driver issues, and pulseaudio issues across many hardware platforms. However, some of these issues are quite separate between different chipsets. E.g. model=laptop does different things on different chipsets, and doesn't do a thing for my chipset ALC889A. See the full quirks list here: - http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt + http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt I am reporting this from a x86_64 install, but my sound was broken in exactly the same way when I was running i386. - I have not found a published configuration, which makes the sound on my MacBook Pro 5,1 work completely. [Bug 485700] Re: kdm does not start (karmic, kde 4.3.3)
Ok, I setup my pc at home (Corei7-860, 8GB, GeForce7600GS) with a fresh Karmic installation. After installing KDE 4.3.2 everythings was fine. Yesterday came some xorg updates and finaly my pc won't start correctly. I use the KDM and everytime when it tries to start I get the message, that the xserver couldn't start and it offers me some options. When I choose the failsave mode the xserver starts again and it runs as if nothings happened before. What is this? I use only supported repositories. I use Ubuntu for some years as my produktion system, but such troubles I never had before. I thing such worse things may not happen. My Thinkpad runs only with GDM and my PC too. With GDM I can't use any suspend mode from KDE. I love my KDE and I want to use it with the matching KDM! Sorry, but I'm really frustated. -- kdm does not start (karmic, kde 4.3.3) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/485700 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 492194] [NEW] desktop wallpaper change very slow
Public bug reported: I am using a slideshow of tiled background images from Propaganda as my desktop background. I have selected a directory of these images using Desktop Settings dialog. My problem is that whenever a background changes, my desktop slows to crawl for several seconds. I actually have time to launch top during background change only to see Xorg process happily eating away my processor cycles. Hm, looks like none of those valgrind logs catch memory leaks. [Bug 492199] [NEW] Ubuntu One crashes nautilus window when sharing folder
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client On my x64 Karmic install Ubuntu One randomly crashes when attempting to share folder to someone. To reproduce: 1. Navigate to Ubuntu One folder (Places - Ubuntu One). Create a folder there. Close Ubuntu One folder. You may also wish to drop a file into newly created subfolder. 2. Go to Places - Ubuntu One 3. Right-click on the folder you have created in step 1 and select share on Ubuntu One. If the window does not crash right away you will be presented with the dialogue box prompting you for email and share name. If the share name field is filled out with the name of the folder you are sharing, then click cancel, close Ubuntu One window and repeat from step 2 until you get blank share name field or it is filled out with something different from the folder name that you are sharing. Once this is the case, click Share and the nautilus window will crash and Ubuntu One will stay disconnected. There is also no indication on the folder icon that it is shared, and no way to know to whom it is shared with on Ubuntu One from within nautilus.
