[Bug 502149] [NEW] winbindd service and ntlm_auth

2010-01-01 Thread Jonathan Ben-Joseph
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: winbind

If possible, ntlm_auth and it's functionality should be separated from
winbindd or winbindd should be loaded on demand. This is because some
applications such as Wine recommend winbind, and thus winbind is
installed by default via apt-get. The winbind package launches the
winbindd daemon even if Wine is never used by the user.

[Bug 262251] Re: phpize: configure:8184: error: possibly undefined macro: _LT_SET_OPTIONS

2010-01-01 Thread Kerry
I had this problem when trying to install Cairo extension for php with
PECL. this workaround does worked for me i.e. cat all the old files, but
you have to include the NEW libtools.m4 file to !

First copy all the files incase of error !

** my files are located in /usr/share/aclocal. I'm on ubuntu 8.10 **

cd /usr/share/aclocal
mkdir ~/libtoolsbackup
cp lt~obsolete.m4 ltoptions.m4 ltsugar.m4 ltversion.m4 libtool.m4
~/libtoolsbackup

cd ~/libtoolsbackup
cp libtool.m4 libtool.m4.backup
rm libtool.m4

cat lt~obsolete.m4 ltoptions.m4 ltsugar.m4 ltversion.m4 libtool.m4.bakup
 libtool.m4

before this next step, make sure you have the above files backed-up !

sudo cp libtool.m4 /usr/share/aclocal/

[Bug 456808] Re: Karmic-Networking (SAMBA) just does not work, even with detailed attention.

2010-01-01 Thread david
Well I'm having the same problem with Samba; loaded on an Ubuntu-server, trying
to connect to a windows 7 netbook and a Kubuntu desktop machine. This was setup
and worked until recently. Now I have no connection to my Windows 7 netbook. My
Kubuntu machine connects to the server via a very reliable NFS connection.
I've cleared IP tables on the server, wrote a new smb.conf file and
re-installed samba all without any connection. findsmb shows nothing from my
kubu machine but running (on the server) smbclient -L shows shares listed on
the server. Testparm the smb.conf with no errors - clients simply do not see
the smb server!!

I'd just like to say to emarkay; I understand your frustration BUT these
guys do a great job! slagging them off openly here is not fair to them!

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Package has been fixed in Debian to be build with python2.6, which was the only

[Bug 292203] Re: /usr/bin/pppd has group owner dip, not dialout

2010-01-01 Thread q.dinar
i have also just now added my user to dip group and wanted to know out what is
dip and searching in google have come here.
just now electricity switched off for near one hour and after computer switched
on again ppp has started automatically. but i need to make poff dsl-provider
and pon dsl-provider to get programs working, i have said this in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/500735 , now i have
tried to poff dsl-provider without sudo , but i could not, it said:
kill: Operation not permitted
/usr/bin/poff: /bin/kill failed. None stopped.
, only could with sudo, then i started it without sudo and it works. and i
tried to poff and pon without sudo, it works. so only first poff is not
permitted if ppp is autoconnected.
so look at this when fix this bug.

Eugene Gorodinsky , on some computers only pppoeconf works, on some only
network manager works, as it seems to me. also is it possible to make
autoconnect with network manager?

[Bug 502027] [NEW] gawk fails to parse regular expressions with an interval

2010-01-01 Thread David Kohen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gawk

Using gawk 3.1.4 I tried to make a simple script:
ls -ld /tmp/ | awk '/^.{4}r/{print TEST}'
On a computer that has read permissions on /tmp.
And I got no output.
When doing it the same without the interval:
ls -ld /tmp/ | awk '/^r/{print TEST}'
I received the correct output.
This script worked on an IBM AIX 6.1 machine, i.e. it printed TEST.
Using Karmic.

Geir, I don't know enough command line linux to download the .deb files in

No problem, I'll be a bit more verbose. Let me know if you have more
questions.

My preferred way of downloading the files would be to use firefox,
right click on the file name and select save as... But if you are on a
system which is freezeing and you don't have a workaround I understand
that this is problematic. You can also download the files with the
three commands
wget
http://www.kvante.info/845Gfreeze/linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest1_git03347e2~gomyhr_i386.deb
wget
http://www.kvante.info/845Gfreeze/linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest8_git6fd4693~gomyhr_i386.deb
wget
http://www.kvante.info/845Gfreeze/linux-image-2.6.30-freezetest9_git02200d0~gomyhr_i386.deb
this will download the files to the current directory. If this
directory does not have othe deb-files, you can install them all with
dpkg -i *.deb

There are some more detailed instructions at bug 456902, comments #17
and #20.

Hope this helps. Happy New Year!

It's possible to compile against xulrunner-1.9.1, but there is no stable
symlink to that package (1.9.1), so that when the the lib is updated via
apt (eg from 1.9.1.5 to 1.9.1.6) all the programs compiled against it
break (just happened with my couchdb installation).

[Bug 459021] Re: Remote control commands not processed

2010-01-01 Thread n3utrino
I found a solution working for me.

1. sudo service stop lirc
2. sudo irrecord -d /dev/lirc0 irrecord.out
3. record some buttons
4. copy recorded irrecord.out to /etc/lirc/lircd.conf
5. sudo service start lirc
6. irw
7. push some buttons and it works.

My conclusion is that you need a valid lircd conf to get output from lircd
hope that helps someone

[Bug 502039] [NEW] Konqeuror suggestions list in wrong place (two monitors)

2010-01-01 Thread Nir
Public bug reported:

Using Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic), Konqueror 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu3
I have two monitors with twin view, nvidia GeForce 9500 GT, driver version
185.18.36. Window manager is compiz.

Steps:
1) Open Konqueror.
2) Put it on the secondary monitor.
3) Go to a website with an input field you've typed into before (say gmail).
4) Start typing, it will suggest the things you've typed before in a list.
5) The suggestions list opens in the edge of the primary monitor instead of in
the appropriate position in the secondary monitor. Looks like the limitations
imposed on the list's position do not take twin view into account.

[Bug 468358] Re: PulseAudio and multiple users logged in at the same time

2010-01-01 Thread WaywardGeek
I can confirm this bug happens on a new Karmic install. I do Switch
User... and log in as another user, and that user gets no access to the
sound card. The device is not listed by System/Prefereces/Sound.

I have a similar related problem I want to solve. Blind users run
speakup, which starts as soon as the speakup_soft module is loaded.
Speakup starts pulseaudio as user speech-dispatcher, which grabs the
sound card, making it unavailable to any user logging into gnome. This
really sucks for blind users.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2010-01-01 Thread markofealing
I've also got this problem with a Freecom 160Gb USB drive Model
(SSJABA), known as the Freecom Mobile Drive XXS, it is USB2.

If it is correctly detected by Karmic (also an issue with earlier
versions of Ubuntu), it is very slow in reading and writing files (USB
1.1 Speed rather than USB2) when compared to a 80Gb Buffalo MiniStation
USB disk I also have.

I've experienced problems on some NEC, VIA (all), and Alcor USB2
controller chipsets, although with Intel I've not had a problem but this
is probably because my only Intel USB controller is USB1.1!

Dropping back to USB1.1 drivers fixes the problem but is unworkable with
high capacity devices.

The problem is in -define pdf:use-cropbox=true option. Without this option
everything works Ok. Workaround is quite simple and may be done on per-user
basis, whithout root privileges. You can overwrite stock convertDefault.py by
placing your own script with same name into ~/.lyx/scripts directory. I attach
fixed convertDefault.py that works for me.

[Bug 502048] [NEW] Freeze during startup on logo screen

Public bug reported:

When I start ubuntu (9.10) with kernel 2.6-16 19 times out of 20 it will
hang on the logo screen. If I use the 2.6-14 kernel is starts with no

[Bug 459586] Re: Karmic: OV2640 Webcam no longer works (Inspiron 1520)

2010-01-01 Thread ogro
Just reporting that I had similar issue...

I upgraded (with a clean install) from 8.04 to 9.10 last week... the
first 2 days my webcam (OV2640 on Dell Inspiron 1720) worked fine with
Skype and for no apparent reason it just stopped working. Skype would
place a grey box where my camera view should be and there was no light
indication that the webcam was on. When opening the Skype video menu it
said No device found for the webcam. Today, out of the blue, I checked
again with Skype and it is working fine again... all I have done since
then and now, has been to type lsusb in the terminal to find the model
number.

Noob question follows:
Could it have something to do with the webcam software/driver not being fully
released on shutdown?

[Bug 502055] [NEW] screen freezes after working for awhile but cursor still moves around

2010-01-01 Thread Terry O'Brien
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

SUMMARY: screen freezes after working for awhile but cursor still moves
around.

This bug was reported previously and relates to bug number 497179 with
the following details:

DETAILS: Hi, hope someone can help out. I have Ubuntu 9.10 upgraded from
9.04 and running dual boot parallel with XP Windows (which is not
experiencing the same problem, so not a hardware fault). I start up and
work for awhile and eventually the screen stops responding to the
cursor, so I have to switch off power and reboot to continue. Does
anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this problem?

CURRENTLY: I overlooked important instructions in the rush before
Christmas - so I am now following them again as closely as possible. In
reply to the instructed questions:

The source package (as I understand it) is to do with this upgraded version.
1) the release is currently 9.10
2) the response to this command is 'W: Unable to locate package packagename'. I
don't know what to check for in Synaptic??

INTERRUPTION!! - the screen keeps freezing as I attempt to complete this
information so I will send now and add to it later if I can.

[Bug 238183] Re: Useless memory consumption

2010-01-01 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
In Karmic, I can confirm that the -m Platform script does not die after
3 minutes, consuming 10MB until reboot. I'll give a look at this
problem.

Though, you mention in the description that there's a 90MB usage on
first launch. I guess this comes from the package installation, isn't
it? If that usage disappears after it's done, then that part is not a
bug.
