2010-05-07 Thread Gulab Pasha
Hi,

I have the same issue in my samba shared directory.. I'm not able to
rename the folders after giving complete permissions. I'm currently
using Ubuntu 9.04... This problem happened after i upgraded to my Snow
leopard 10.6.3 and even i have unix extensions = no but still have the
same issue

Error when i try to rename the folder

You don’t have permission to rename the item.

Looking forward to your support.

[Bug 576910] [NEW] Regression: getPathInfo() doesn't return parent info

2010-05-07 Thread mycroes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

In PHP 5.3.2-1ubuntu4 there's a bug concerning getPathInfo() on the
SplFileInfo object. Instead of returning a new SplFileInfo object for
the parent directory it returns a SplFileInfo object for the same file.
The bug is reported and fixed upstream at
http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=48361 .

This bug is a regression, PHP 5 under Karmic did not have this issue.

The following patch should fix the issue:
http://svn.php.net/viewvc/php/php-src/trunk/ext/spl/spl_directory.c?r1=298638r2=298647view=patch

ViewVC url for the change:
http://svn.php.net/viewvc/php/php-src/trunk/ext/spl/spl_directory.c?r1=298638r2=298647

I hope this patch will be applied to the PHP 5.3 found in Lucid, the
issue will probably break quite some applications.

Ok. It really shouldn't be necessary, though. The problem is that
qemu-system-x86-64 attempts to use kvm, but using kvm you cannot go 64
bit if the host is 32 bit.

Surely this isn't how it should install? The package should come with

[Bug 577027] [NEW] unable to ssh to guest vm after volume attach

2010-05-07 Thread Jason Rogers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

kvm:
  Installed: 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+0.12.3+noroms+0ubuntu9
  Candidate: 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+0.12.3+noroms+0ubuntu9
  Version table:
 *** 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+0.12.3+noroms+0ubuntu9 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I had a guest vm running on a eucalyptus cloud using virtio for disk and
network I/O. I also had an ssh session on the guest vm. When I attach a
volume to the instance using euca-attach-volume I lose network
connectivity to the guest.

Before I upgraded to lucid I was running karmic, and there was no issue.
After the upgrade, I started having issues.

I've tried the UEC 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04 i386 images, along with some
custom amd64 images that worked previously under karmic.

With what arguments did you call euca-attach-volume? I believe there is
a problem when specifying /dev/sda instead of /dev/sdb.

[Bug 575945] Re: chkrootkit falsely flags files owned by Firefox 3 and Sun Java 6 valid packages

2010-05-07 Thread Marc Deslauriers
This is a well-known issue, and is mentioned in
/usr/share/doc/chkrootkit/README.FALSE-POSITIVES and in the upstream
FAQ: http://www.chkrootkit.org/faq/#8

Simply put, chkrootkit should not contain a whitelist of acceptable
dotfiles by default, as a rootkit could simply use the files listed in
the whitelist as known good hiding places.

That being said, the newer Debian/Ubuntu packages contain a patch that
adds a -e option that lets administrators add their own whitelist. I
think this is a reasonable idea and it should be included in the hardy
package so chkrootkit can be used by system admins without constantly
getting false positives.

I have uploaded chkrootkit packages for hardy that contain the patch to
my PPA here:

Please test and leave feedback. Once it's been tested, I'll start the
SRU procedures, although it may not be accepted.

[Bug 423252] Re: NSS using LDAP+SSL breaks setuid applications like su and sudo

2010-05-07 Thread Lawren Quigley-Jones
My experience with libnss-ldap is that nscd allows sudo but not su.
Also the GUI authentication doesn't work.

I just got around to testing libnss-ldapd and I can verify that both sudo and
su work there.

Ubuntu's gui authentication process does not work though. When you try
to perform a privileged action like adding a printer it opens the
Authentication dialogue and asks for a password. When you enter an
ldap password it returns bad password and the entire printer config
system freezes. The following errors are from auth.log:

May 7 11:53:11 engine cupsd: pam_unix(cups:auth): check pass; user unknown
May  7 11:53:11 engine cupsd: pam_unix(cups:auth): authentication failure;

2010-05-07 Thread Lawren Quigley-Jones
I'm sorry, my previous comment didn't hold up to scrutiny. A reboot
seems to have gotten rid of those errors

The GUI authentication dialogue is asking for the root password rather
than the password of the logged in user. Does anyone know if this is
the intended behavior?

[Bug 571933] Re: dhclient3 hangs on shutdown

2010-05-07 Thread Andrea Ratto
It seems that the DHCP server does not reply to DHCPRELEASE so dhclient waits
until timeout.
My DSL modem does the same.
My workaround is to remove /etc/rc0.d/S35networking and
/etc/rc6.d/S35networking, but I would like to know if there is a way to
configure dhclient to ignore release requests, without messing with init
scripts.

Also on reboots the client should NOT release the address according to
the protocol, so maybe this is ALSO a bug in the init scripts.

The dhcp server in my case is isc-dhcpd and this doesn't happen for any
Jaunty, Solaris, OSX, or Windows machines. Plus this is only on
shutdown. Stopping or restarting the script while the machine is in a
normal running state does what is expected of it and releases the IP.

[Bug 571093] Re: libvirtd eats away more memory over time

2010-05-07 Thread Nick Brand
I've got something similar happening on Lucid. I rebooted a new server
last night, and this morning libvirtd is using about 5GB of memory,
without any virtual machines running. Looking at my munin graphs, this
appears to have been happening on both of my new servers for the past
few days, with the most extreme case of libvirtd using all 48GB of
memory over the course of two days.

Setting the libvirtd log level to 2 displays a lot of:

23:07:15.340: info : udevGetDeviceProperty:111 : udev reports device 'sdc' does
not have property 'DRIVER'
23:07:15.343: info : udevGetDeviceProperty:111 : udev reports device 'sdb' does
not have property 'DRIVER'

Sometimes these appear multiple times a second, other times they only
appear every 20 seconds. Both devices (sdb and sdc) are being used by
multipath, and are mapped to /dev/mapper/mpath0, but I'm not sure why
libvirtd cares about them. Nothing else is showing up in the logs, and
loglevel 3 displays nothing.

The setup is two Dell R710 servers accessing a shared Dell MD3000 SAS
array. OS is 10.04 AMD64 server, with all patches applied as of the
morning of May 6th.

[Bug 571543] Re: Milter and Freshclam configurations buggy in Lucid

2010-05-07 Thread Imre Gergely
I've succesfully tested the first two problems, with clamav-milter and
the Bytecode option, and they do get resolved by upgrading to the new
package from -proposed.

The third problem (with freshclam), I could not reproduce. Tried
installing 1ubuntu2 packages, too, everything seemed fine. Values in
/var/cache/debconf/config.dat change to Yes/No according to the
selection, did not see anything else. Tried uninstalling clamav-daemon,
moving /etc/clamav/clamd.conf, the problem described did not appear.

[Bug 571543] Re: Milter and Freshclam configurations buggy in Lucid

2010-05-07 Thread Imre Gergely
I've managed to reproduce the last problem too. It only appears when
upgrading from 1ubuntu2 to 2ubuntu1 (from RC to release). After that
another update to -proposed fixes it. There's a small problem though as
far as I can tell. Consider the following:

- somebody upgraded to Lucid -rc
- installed clamav with freshclam. Default NotifyClamd is set to 'Yes'
- upgraded to Lucid release (clamav 1ubuntu2) after release day, NotifyClamd
gets invalidated (actually right now it's set to not notify clamd)
- now he upgrades to this package from -proposed, problem gets fixed but option
stays on 'No', so there will be no clamd notifications from now on.

I also checked the other scenario:

- somebody upgraded to Lucid -rc
- installed clamav with freshclam. Default NotifyClamd is set to 'Yes'. He sets
it to 'No', thus disabling the notification by choise
- upgraded to Lucid release (clamav 1ubuntu2) after release day, NotifyClamd
DOES NOT get invalidated (config.dat is still on 'false' and not 'path')
- now he upgrades to this package from -proposed, there's nothing to fix, but
the option is still on 'No' (which he had initially)

I conclude that: if 'path' is present at value it means that there was
'true' before, so it needs to be 'true' after upgrade also.

[Bug 576957] Re: passwd crashed when the password is changed through pam_ldap

2010-05-07 Thread Philippe Gauthier
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you
would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 397721] Re: [needs-packaging] php-fpm

2010-05-07 Thread Stas Sușcov
Huh, I got the lucid php5 package patched with fpm.

This one should be far better than dotdeb's since it has all the ubuntu
patches plus fpm.

Checkout my PPA:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~sushkov/+archive/personal/+packages

Now It can be back-ported to hardy or older versions.
Free beer! :)

Please don't mark bug as fix committed when packages are available in a
PPA as there is not guarantee it will reach the Ubuntu repositories.

Sorry for that,
I saw `Importance = Wishlist` and thought `Fix commited` means something
different.

My fault.

[Bug 577264] [NEW] libvirt failed to start vm: internal error Unable to find cgroup for

2010-05-07 Thread edison
Public bug reported:

I enabled cgroup for libvirt by:
Create a new virt group, by adding
group virt {
cpu {
cpu.shares = 9216;
}
}
into /etc/cgconfig.conf. And add root:/usr/sbin/libvirtd cpu virt/ into
/etc/cgrules.conf
So, when I start libvirt-bin, libvirtd will create its own cgroup directory
under /mnt/cgroup/cpu/virt/

Everything works well, except after reboot the machine.
I found libvirt doesn't create its own cgroup under /mnt/cgroup/cpu, or
/mnt/cgroup/sysdefault, instead of /mnt/cgroup/cpu/virt
After some tests, the root cause is libvirtd is started earlier than cgred.
On lucid, libvirt-bin is started by upstart, while cgred is started by sys-V
init script. How can I specify the dependency between the two? Apparently,
libvirt-bin should be started after cgred.
Right now, I add the following hack in /etc/init/libvirt-bin.conf:
pre-start script
mkdir -p /var/run/libvirt
# Clean up a pidfile that might be left around
rm -f /var/run/libvirtd.pid
while [ 1 ]
do
if [ -f /var/run/cgred.pid ]
then
break
else
sleep 1
fi
done
end script
Then libvirt works with cgroup again.

[Bug 574157] Re: Right click on graph'ed obj locks ddd/Ubuntu

2010-05-07 Thread Stephen Warren
I'm affected by this too. Just to be explicit, here are repro steps:

g++ -ggdb -Wall -Werror -o bug1 bug1.cpp # I'll attach that in a second
ddd ./bug1
View Menu - ensure Data Window is checked
b alter_list
r
# wait for breakpoint to be hit
In ddd source window, right-click on the list parameter to function
alter_list(), and select Display list
Now, go to the data window, right-click on the graphic view of list. ddd will
hang, and mouse will be grabbed into the data window.

Note: You can recover from this without killing X by:
CTRL-ALT-F2 to switch to a text console
Log in
kill `pidof ddd`
CTRL-ALT-Fn to switch back to X

[Bug 525642] Re: gnome-keyring does not start org.freedesktop.secrets

2010-05-07 Thread Haggai Eran
Hi,

I tried adding the missing .service file mentioned in the upstream bug report
myself, but I'm still having trouble using the keyring. If I run seahorse for
example with the new service file in place, I get this error:
** Message: secret service operation failed: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
 the network connection was broken.

** (seahorse:11951): WARNING **: couldn't get default keyring name: Error
 communicating with gnome-keyring-daemon

This only happens when I use a password-less login.
If by the way I kill the gnome-keyring-daemon process started on login, then
everything works fine.

[Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows

2010-05-07 Thread Stephen Warren
petter wahlman (comment #44), I suspect your bug is different; with ddd,
there's a very specific and reproducible way to make this happen. That
issue is covered by bug 574157. My quick reading of the rest of this bug
is that it's something that happens randomly to people whilst not doing
anything specific and/or repeatable.

[Bug 574157] Re: Right click on graph'ed obj locks ddd/Ubuntu

2010-05-07 Thread Stephen Warren
FYI, I think this is upstream bug http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?28247
However, I can't add that as a bug watch to Launchpad, since Launchpad
doesn't know about the ddd upstream project.

FYI, a partial workaround is to left double-click on items you want to
expand. This appears to do what right-click Display would do. However,
that doesn't allow access to all the other actions that are on the
right-click menu.

[Bug 505494] Re: Mouse events fail frequently and unpredictably, requiring kwin restart

@ Patrick Dawkins

Yes, after trying around I found out the same thing!

For example, when I click on the App Launcher in the taskbar, the mouse
will not actually work in the applauncher unless I right-click on the
symbol or anywhere in the taskbar again..

Quite annoying! I really hope there will be a patch for this because I
actually was still in the process of switching to Ubuntu and now I find
myself going back to Windows which is so slow!

The warning reported here typically indicates that it took longer for
your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a

[Bug 570589] Re: Lucid: Overheating due to no PM for ATI KMS

2010-05-07 Thread ngc2997
I definitely agree with Richard - I'd also rate this bug highly
important, especially with the fact in mind that for ATI cards the
xserver-xorg-video-ati driver is used by default on a fresh installation
(correct me if I am wrong here). Also consider this might perhaps lead
to increasing reports about dying video cards and eventually to bad
publicity for the entire distribution. I might be a bit too concerned
here, but I wonder how long a card may actually survive when permanently
running on temperatures around 80°C (when idle, that is).

Due to fglrx not supporting KMS and introducing a severe memory leak
with compositing enabled, I switched back to the free driver just
yesterday, but chose to revert that, as I am heavily concerned about the
lifetime of my video card (HD4350, passive / heatsink) when using the
free driver with the temperature being significantly (!) higher.

[Bug 562092] Re: [Lucid] cdrom drive not recognized automatically

2010-05-07 Thread Marcus K
Sometimes I see the DVD drive, sometimes I don't. When I see the drive,
everything works fine until the next boot, including playing movies. I don't
know exactly what is making it disappear.
The udev version I have installed is 151-12, Ubuntu 10.04, and here is my dvdrw
information, which I only see when my drive is detected: product: DVD+-RW
GH50N; vendor: HL-DT-ST.

My workaround is to boot in recovery mode, and then Proceed with normal
boot. It looks like the drive is always detected when I do that. I end
up at the terminal prompt. To open gnome, I login and type startx.

[Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)

2010-05-07 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Thank you for the tip Willem, with that kernel I'm also able to boot with KMS
on and Xv and everything.
I only noticed a small glitch, in Xv sometimes (e.g. in totem, but not with
fullscreen nor in vlc) there's a black overlay over the video. And if I click
on a totem menu, and then I close the totem menu, the black overlay is left
where the menu was.

Anyway, it's very workable with that kernel, thanks again.

Looks similar but I don't know it is the same problem. I don't use an

is duplicate?

Re: [Bug 575602] Re: Connecting with BBC Radio 4 unavailable

2010-05-07 Thread Scunnered
Draycen

Again my thanks for your additional information.

Attempted to listen to 07:00 news to be denied yet again. As usual I was
using the link on the BBC News page. Went to the Today home page with
the same result.

Opened up my mail and and found your post which worked. That at least
is minimal progress.

The obvious question is what ever happened to working just out of the
box. To have FF so badly underperform is not acceptable! Why are we
being foisted with this miserable browser.

I hope that you and others can please work your magic in order that
normal service can be resumed.

Again my thanks

Ian

Subject: [Bug 575602] Re: Connecting with BBC Radio 4 unavailable
 Date: Thu, 06 May 2010 23:32:29 -

I noticed that when I load the link you provided
 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/bbc_radio_four) it doesn't work,
but if I add 'fm' to the end
 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/bbc_radio_fourfm which is what
loads when I open it from the BBC site) then it does work. When you get
the message that it is unavailable, are you seeing the URL without 'fm'
at the end? Likewise, when it does work, do you see 'fm' at the end?
This could be due to the wrong URL being loaded for some reason.

When I click o0n listen now on the BBC home page there are times
when FF reports the BBC Radio 4 page as unavailable. If I
immediately switch to Opera access is available.

 The connection is effected via
 http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/bbc_radio_four and the report
on the site is BBC Radio 4 FM is unavailable at this time.

At times I have switched over to Radio Scotland without any problem
when I wished to check traffic news and there is no problem there.
Again attempting to connect later in the morning usually connects
 to Radio 4.

This is a complete pain. What does it take to have a proper service from FF

[Bug 476817] Re: [i855] [i855] [karmic] X freezes with intel 855GM videocard

2010-05-07 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
I can also confirm that the ppa kernel works for me in Lucid, while
without it I can't boot my old laptop.

My card is:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM
Integrated Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02)

2.6.32-20.30 = Last one that boots, crashes with Xv
2.6.32-21.32 = It hangs when X starts
2.6.32-22.33 = It hangs when X starts
2.6.34rc3-51.2 = Works fine with KMS and Xv and everything.
One minor glitch, I'm sometimes seeing a black square over the Xv video (e.g.
on totem but not on vlc), covering all of the video. In totem, when I open a
menu and close it, that black square goes where the menu was. And when I switch
to fullscreen it goes away so I can see the video normally. (for more details
see my posts in bug #511001)

Please backport that newest patch for Lucid. :)

[Bug 553498] Re: Dell Studio 1558 (Arrandale) hangs on resume from suspend

2010-05-07 Thread gavin
I have been so frustrated with my Dell Latitude D430's inability to
suspend (bug 474949 and many others if you do a search on Dell Suspend)
I thought I would give this new kernel 2.6.32-22.34 a go because the
problems with the Dell Studio described above seem so similar to mine.
Alas, the kernel install fine but the suspend problem will Dell Latitude
D430's still exists. I love the new Lucid environment but a notebook
without suspend on lid close is very frustrating

[Bug 576813] [NEW] Ubuntu Lucid x64 in VirtualBox - Network Device Bug

2010-05-07 Thread Kevin
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

Fresh installation of Ubuntu Lucid x64 in VirtualBox 3.1.6 using bridged
networking and VirtualBox's Intel PRO virtual device, the device seems
to work properly until trying to install/upgrade software. See this
forum thread for details:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1472340

Apparently, the network device corrupts certain files that are being
downloaded...changing the VirtualBox virtual device to AMD PCNET-FAST
III solves the problem.

Please investigate the cause of the Intel network driver failure.

[Bug 544741] Re: [X700] KMS, amd64: Kernel panic while trying to launch system preferences appearance

2010-05-07 Thread Torbjørn Sund
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 i386 my system freezes when changing
users. Had no problems with 9.10. Have applied all system updates.

System: Acer Travelmate 3222, 2GB, external display HP L1720 @1280x1024. Video
ATI Radeon Mobility X700.
Symptoms:
- 1. Sluggish display (could it be the change from nv to nouveau display
driver?)
- 2. Consistently upon Change user the display goes blank except for cursor
and sometimes noise in lower part. Possible to switch to login terminal and
back (ctrl-alt-f1/f7), but only once, when repeated system freezes.
Solution:
Reboot.

I will provide more information on request, but I am not a Linux expert.
