[Bug 574665] Re: kvm + virtio disk corrupts large volumes (1TB).

2010-05-15 Thread zyro
i can confirm this issue. virtio plus guest volumes (qcow2/raw seems
irrelevant, tried both with errors) 1T causes image corruption. the
used disk space in the guests did not matter in my case. io errors
showed sometimes at 10gb, sometimes later when already ~750gb were
copied onto the virtual disk.

additionally, lucid 10.04 server partitioner freezes while trying to
create ext4 fs on virtual disk 1T with virtio. only workaround here
was to run setup with ide driver, switching to virtio afterwards. but
again, that caused disk corruption after some time (varied between
minutes and days).

atm using one 250G virtio raw image and one 2T ide raw image stable
without any flaws.

[Bug 580891] [NEW] samba filenames wrong

2010-05-15 Thread bsh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

fresh install of ubuntu lucid lynx (10.04) 32bit (after the upgrade from
8.04-10.04 failed badly, had to do a clean install.
i decided to reformat everything and try ext4, so all my partitions are ext4
now.
i have backed up my previous config files so i'm using the exact same
configuration as before (which was working)
i have an imap server (cyrus), for which i have a secondary partition, which
is on the same partition which is shared via samba, so i can see the folder
structure and the files in the imap folders. all mail files are named with a
number and a dot at the end, like: 1., 2., 3., 126. etc. there's a
stage. folder too. so these are 8.3 files just without an extension (but with
a dot)
these files and the folder appear as random filenames, when looking from
windows (win7 home premium 32 bit).
all the other files (including other, 8.3 filenames elsewhere) are working
good. all the files are okay on the filesystem too.

e.g.:
dir z:\cyrus\mail\b\user\bsh\Archive\2006\Freemail\Elkuldott

[Bug 74647] Re: php5-gd not using bundled GD library

2010-05-15 Thread Joe Terranova
I see that this is marked as fix released, but I'm still having this
issue with Lucid. I'm running php5 and php5-gd with version
5.3.2-1ubuntu4. I have gd loaded, the rest of the gd functions work, but
I get function not found for imageantialias.

If I'm a fluke, that's fine, I'd appreciate some insight as to what I'm
missing. But I'd like to see if this is still working for anyone else.

There are RPC services which were registered with the portmapper

You need to manually restart them in order for the changes to take effect.
Current registered services:

This suggests that file descriptors may have gotten crossed between
maintainer scripts in connection with debconf. Reassigning this bug to
samba, since samba-common-bin is the package outputting the update-
alternatives lines that appear to have gotten crossed.

Re: [Bug 369575] Re: Why is /usr/share/pam-configs/krb5 specifying minimum_uid= ?

2010-05-15 Thread Steve Langasek
On Sat, May 15, 2010 at 12:31:18AM -, Daniel Richard G. wrote:

This is a potential solution, but putting aside the tricky case of what
happens if the common-* files have customized options, and then the PAM
profile changes?, another problem with this approach is the fragility
of the customization. If you deselect the module, update, then reselect
it, and update... the customized module options are gone without a
trace. There's no way to get them back, other than making the same edit
to the common-* files again. The only real way to safeguard such
customizations is to revert the files to manually-edited mode.

The only way to preserve such options would be to store the authoritative
configuration somewhere other than in the configuration file. (Right now,
we only record what the last-seen set of module defaults are; the
configuration itself is only ever stored in /etc/.) I don't think moving
parts of the user configuration out of the config files is acceptable, and
if you disable and then re-enable a module, I don't see any reason that the
config options *should* be sticky.

I'm not terribly comfortable with the way the statefulness works with
this approach, either. The PAM configuration is not just a vector of
bits indicating enabled/disabled profiles, but also whatever
customizations have been made in the common-* files. If I'm not aware of
what these customizations are, then I have no good way of knowing if my
PAM config is just that vector, or if there's something more to it.
There's no mechanism to tell me here are all the module options that
are different from what's in the profiles.

True. We could add an option for this, but as things stand today,
pam-auth-update already implements the usual guarantee required by
Debian/Ubuntu policy - that local configuration changes are respected.
Helping the user understand which bits of the configuration *are* local
changes is gravy.

Cheers,

[Bug 566560] Re: samba server requires smbpasswd -a user constantly

2010-05-15 Thread rolfy
*sigh* i have to make a correction. The latest samba had no change.

It appears pretty much every time the user wants to connect again
(computer goes into standby, they willingly disconnect etc) their
account needs to be re-enabled :|

my current workaround is turning samba to no password and just cronning
up a script to set no password on an account often.

The other fix is using that pdbedit program and setting the account to
never expires and no password, and then it also lets people login.

I really hope not many people are getting this issue... I hate public
shares and am really worried about this bug, but dont have time to
troubleshoot it...

[Bug 369575] Re: Why is /usr/share/pam-configs/krb5 specifying minimum_uid= ?

2010-05-15 Thread Daniel Richard G.
I don't think moving parts of the user configuration out of the config
files is acceptable, and if you disable and then re-enable a module, I
don't see any reason that the config options *should* be sticky.

I wasn't so much proposing an alternative, just going over the
shortcomings I see of this approach. (Sticky options would present
another quandary---what if they're wrong, and you're not sure how? What
easy way do you have to revert to a pristine config, if disabling/re-
enabling a module doesn't do it?)

pam-auth-update already implements the usual guarantee required by
Debian/Ubuntu policy - that local configuration changes are respected.
Helping the user understand which bits of the configuration *are* local
changes is gravy.

What's implemented now is serviceable, to be sure, but I think the PAM
config warrants a higher level of transparency than (say) inetd.conf.
Maybe it can be machine-generated comments in the common-* files that
indicate which options are customized; maybe some external file
(/etc/pam.overrides? pam.custom?) that stores these options, allowing
easy review and editing. I don't know what the solution would be---only
that I'm vaguely uncomfortable with something as critical as the PAM
config having this not-easily-inspected space in which changes can be
made. There's definitely room for improvement here.

[Bug 347623] Re: Samsung q45 does not produce key-release events for Fn-Keys (patch included)

2010-05-15 Thread ldm
from: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14052

I have a Samsung Q45 and I'm an Ubuntu user since Feisty Fawn.
I have read a lot about 'Fn keys' on Samsung laptops in bugzilla and also in
bugs.launchpad.net.
This bug has been marked as fixed, but it is still present! (also in Lucid Lynx
with kernel 2.6.32-22)

Anyway yesterday I have tried this solution
http://www.voria.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3t=296 and it works fine:
package 'samsung-backlight' enables brightness up/down
package 'samsung-tools' enables wireless on/off

It seems to be a DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support),
it is possible to include this code directly in linux kernel source tree?

[Bug 569456] Re: ubuntu one contents dont sync

2010-05-15 Thread Mitch Towner
I would recommend you to upgrade to Lucid . There have been a lot of
improvements in that release. Not only with Ubuntu One, but the OS
overall. However, I understand that you may not wish to upgrade.

There is a newer client available for Karmic in the Beta PPA that you
can try if you continue to have problems and do not want to upgrade the
OS. Please be aware this updated version does not have an applet. It has
been replaced by an Ubuntu One Preferences window. This is found in the
Me Menu in Lucid through System -- Preferences -- Ubuntu One for
Karmic. The command to install the Beta/PPA is:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuone/beta sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 580815] [NEW] mail watcher applet does not changes its state after left-clicking

2010-05-15 Thread Stefan Flassig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-mailwatch-plugin

Whenever I receive a new mail, the mail watcher applet displays the
correct icon for new mails. Left-clicking opens my mail client
(Thunderbird), which downloads my mails.

What I've expected was, that when I left-click on the applets icon, it
will displays the icon used for no new mails, because in normal case
you would use this feature to open your mail client which will download
all these mails. What happens is, that the icon does not change until
the next refresh, which is very irritating in my humble opinion.

[Bug 580816] [NEW] the default should not be no expiration

2010-05-15 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pastebinit

the current default is that pastebins do not expire. For pastebins to
expire, the user needs to change the default. I think it should be the
other way round, expire (maybe after a week or a month) by default and
let the user who wants a permanent pastebin change the default.

[Bug 572681] Re: shared-mime-info: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127

2010-05-15 Thread frans van der star
Dear Engineers and developpers,

I found out already. It has to do with Tomcat. First I had Tomcat 5.5
(9.10). In version 10.4 not Tomcat 5.5 available anymore.

Also during upgrade Tomcat 6 was not installed.

What I did is just delete line 6 in /etc/environment/ with the
consequence I cannot use applications using Tomcat like Openbravo etc..

This was the same issue with another upgrade. Which I forgot already.

Maybe next time take this issue into consideration?

Thanks

[Bug 573252] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 crashes

2010-05-15 Thread Pavel
Now I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 with 2.6.34-999-generic 201005081426
and it seems to be stable. My hardware is ASUS N71JA-TY034X (Intel Core i5, ATI
Mobility Radeon HD5730).

The conclusion is:
2.6.31-20 O.K.
2.6.31-21 crashes
2.6.32-21 crashes (the default kernel of Ubuntu 10.04)
2.6.34-99 O.K.

My question is:
how can I modify the Ubuntu 10.04 installation iso image to contain the
2.6.34-999 kernel?

And:
the new kernel makes graphics very slow. How can I return to the old fast
graphics with the new stable kernel?

Thanks for any advice
Pavel

[Bug 560060] Re: Link with GnuTLS for Jabber encryption support

2010-05-15 Thread Maia Kozheva
qutim wasn't in karmic - it was removed, and then reintroduced in lucid.

However, GnuTLS is enabled in upstream PPA builds, and upstream is now
blaming me for broken Jabber support in lucid and asking me to do
something about it. This new functionality won't affect existing
connections, only those users who are configuring new accounts.

[Bug 579252] Re: rst.el does not handle spaces in filenames correctly

2010-05-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package python-docutils - 0.6-4

---
python-docutils (0.6-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Bump standards version to 3.8.4 (no changes needed).
  * Bump debhelper compatibility level to 7 (no changes needed). Update
versioned build-dependency on debhelper accordingly.
  * Use unversioned build-dependency on python-setuptools, as the requested
version is available even in oldstable.
  * Update my e-mail address.
  * Drop build-dependency on xsltproc; it's no longer used.
  * Run tests at build time:
+ Modify debian/rules accordingly.
+ Build-depend on python-all.
+ Apply patch from upstream (alltests-exitcode.diff) to make test suite
runner exit with code 0 if all test passes.
  * Emacs major mode: properly quote arguments passed to shell
(closes: #581522, LP: #579252).
  * Install HISTORY.txt as the upstream changelog.
