[Bug 480849] Re: Samba daemon crashes when transfering large files to share in encrypted home dir

2010-06-30 Thread Joshua Coombs
I've run up against this twice now.

Linux forgery 2.6.32-22-server #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 20:38:33 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The box is running smbd with the only share being on a dmcrypted
partition. I have a dozen Windows systems running everything from Win2k
to 2k3 pushing nightly NTBackup dumps to the box. These dumps generate
9GB to 250GB files that are streamed to the box, and then read back by
the host windows system to verify the dump. This works cleanly for
about a week, when it fails one or more smbd processes will be pegging
the cpu, along with a flush process. Any attempts to kill those
processes hangs the shell, as does trying to do anything with the file
system in question. Trying to reboot or shutdown -h also just hangs the
current shell.

Re: [Bug 597147] Re: Autofs upgrade failed for lucid; required to select version without keyboard or mouse

2010-06-30 Thread Chris Bevan
Hi Chuck,

It was just a once-off thing. I had to reboot and run a partial upgrade
to finish off the process, and after that I messed around with
auto.master again (I think I had to reapply my changes to it to get my
old version back again) and all was fine.

To be honest it's not a big deal for me - certainly as it doesn't affect
me any more - but I decided to report it because it could be a hassle
for others.

Cheers,

- Chris

[Bug 580319] Re: dhcp3-server launches before upstart brings all interface, thus failing to start

2010-06-30 Thread Ulrik Hørlyk Hjort
I made the following (hmm ... ugly ) workaround on my system until an
update for dhcp3 is available:

Install a service for following python script in init.d. The script will
spin until the bridge interface is up and running (looking for the
routing table) and will the start the dhcp server. Remember to change
your bridge interface name in the line:

  find_res = res.find(dev br0)

if it is different from dr0

/Ulrik

#!/usr/bin/python

import os
import subprocess

cmd = ip route ls

find_res = -1

while find_res == -1:

  p = subprocess.Popen(cmd, shell=True, stdin=subprocess.PIPE,
stdout=subprocess.PIPE, close_fds=True)

  fin, fout = p.stdin, p.stdout

  res = fout.read()

2010-06-30 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi Lars,

glad you were able to work around it. Script looks good.

I'm going to set the status of this bug to Wontfix as the aoe-stat
check is not appropriate for general usage. If you get time to
talk to upstream about strategies for a generic solution, I
suspect there are other people (with other types of filesystems)
who also could benefit.

This seems very reasonable.

 If you get time to
 talk to upstream about strategies for a generic solution, I
 suspect there are other people (with other types of filesystems)
 who also could benefit.

I think the correct solution would be an integration of such a check
directly into the libvirt tools.

Best regards

[Bug 600132] Re: package mysql-server-5.0 5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10.5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)

2010-06-30 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug.

DpkgTerminalLog.gz shows that the /etc/mysql/my.cnf and
/etc/mysql/debian-start files do not exist. Did you
previously have these in a different location (i.e.
specified in /etc/init.d/mysql)? Do you have backups?

[Bug 565613] Re: Linksys WUSB54G wireless adapter not working in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-06-30 Thread Grant Bowman
Hello Carlos. How fresh was your first fresh installation? If it was
an upgrade from Karmic it could have been using the Karmic drivers which
Adrien reports worked very well. It your experience truly did show that
it worked from the installation kernel and failed with the installed
kernel that might be an important clue in narrowing down this bug.

I sometimes have troubles with wifi of my own hardware and others who I
help at user groups from time to time so I know how frustrating it can
be to see it work with Windows and not work with Linux. This is one of
those nasty cases that can use all the help it can get so a fix can be
found for all possible cases of slightly different hardware.

I talked to Adrien Lamothe on Sunday at a LUG meeting. I insisted we
try plugging his USB adapter into my Lucid laptop running linux-
image-2.6.32-23-generic (2.6.32-23.37) kernel that has the linux-
firmware-nonfree 1.8 installed on it already. It failed to recognize or
show up with sudo lsusb -v for some reason. My guess is this was due to
several suspend and resume events. I have no problems with other USB
devices on this laptop but without the hardware here I can't
troubleshoot further.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys says that only v.4 WUSB54G adapters
use the Ralink 2500 chipset. As I recall Adrien said his uses a
different one. I hope he responds with more details about how it
appears to the kernel under 9.10. I believe the WUSB54G is a widely
sold Linksys adapter model that has been manufactured using several
different chipsets over time, each needing different firmware. When
looking closely at Adrien's this weekend we found no minor revision
number on the hardware. Serial numbers might be needed to help track
down this bug if linux-firmware-nonfree still doesn't fix it in all
cases. Since Adrien has now downgraded back to 9.10 in part because of
this 10.04 bug it would be helpful if other people can take the time to
provide the details that Brian and Jeremy need to help isolate this bug.

[Bug 562913] Re: NFS4 acl ops do not work with standard kernel

2010-06-30 Thread loonatic
I've been struggling with this issue for a couple of months as well.
I used to solve it by patching and recompiling the kernel.
See here for more details:
  http://linux-nfs.org/pipermail/nfsv4/2009-November/011643.html

The issue has been fixed in vanilla kernel from 2.6.33.2. Also see:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=patch;\
h=462d60577a997aa87c935ae4521bd303733a9f2b

All it takes is to apply the patch below. Strangely enough, Debian Lenny has
fixed as.
As have a lot of other distributions, especially server oriented. After all, it
was diagnosed and fixed in Nov 2009.

I can confirm that the ppa kernels 2.6.33 and up fix the problem, but they
should as the vanilla kernel has this fix.
However, running a stock Ubuntu Lucid kernel with the fix instead of a ppa
kernel is much preferred.

2010-06-30 Thread ngc2997
 [..] network manager should be added to the list
 of affected applications in launchpad bugs?

I don't think so - note this is not a NetworkManager issue, but one of
the driver (ar9170usb). NetworkManager just triggers it by
periodically scanning for other APs, but that's a feature, not a bug. To
quote Dan Williams (NetworkManager developer): [..] note that if the
device does have problems with periodic scanning, this is 100% a driver
problem as the device needs to be able to cope with that [..].

[Bug 576001] Re: kernel 2.6.32-32 makes machine hang during boot

2010-06-30 Thread Charles Auer
I did a clean install using the x64 version of Lucid, kernel 2.6.32-31.
The only thing I did before upgrading to the new kernel (2.6.32-32) was
build the drivers for my RAID card (Highpoint Technologies RocketRAID
2640x1) and added an entry to fstab to mount the array on boot.

It's now sitting at the same thing it was in the original bug report:
fsck /dev/sda1 clean...

I booted into the previous kernel and commented out the fstab entry for
my RAID array and rebooted into the new kernel.

I was met with a logon prompt, as expected.

I hooked up an external USB hard drive to the machine, added an entry to
fstab and rebooted. It came up fine.

Disconnected the USB drive and rebooted, it hung again. I tried
rebooting into the previous kernel with the drive disconnected and it
hung at fsck /dev/sda1 clean.. until I hit s then it continued to boot
and came up as normal.

Booted into the new kernel and hit s even though it was just sitting
at a blinking cursor, and arrived at a logon prompt.

Did the same after uncommenting the RAID volume, same thing happened.
After hitting s, I got skipping /array at user's request that device
is set to be mounted on /array in fstab.

My guess is that it's not showing the press s to skip, etc if is
cannot find a device listed in fstab.

It sounds like there is something causing the OS to not display if there
is an entry in fstab, but the disk doesn't exist.

There was a thread about a similar thing happening on Ubuntu desktop, except
they were prompted to hit s or m
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1520413

Also, I just wanted to note: I went thru many, kernel upgrades on Karmic
without having to comment out the fstab entry in order for the machine
to boot. All I needed to do was build the drivers after I booted into
the new kernel and then reboot and all was well.

I hope this helps; it sounds like the -server kernel handles mounting
fstab differently somehow. I don't know.

[Bug 575750] Re: [Asus-ul30] compatible SATA operation mode disables Intel card

2010-06-30 Thread mcsan
This BIOS setting has the same effect under windows7 - the Intel card
disappears from the device manager.

So I guess this bug is a problem of the ASUS-provided BIOS
Unless there is some way of improving the performance of startup and
suspend/resume to accomodate this setting.

Maybe the discussion about ways of making the nvidia card work should happen
somewhere else, like a href=

[Bug 600087] [NEW] NetHack QT leaves /var/games/nethack/perm_lock around

2010-06-30 Thread Andrew McMillan
Public bug reported:

This is a right pain. For some reason (heh :-) both my kids love
NetHack, but *boy* do they go ballistic when they click the icon and
nothing happens. Investigation shows that it's moaning about
/var/games/nethack/perm being locked, but it provides no facility (that
I can see) to remove the lock.

The user that they are running at *can't* remove the lock, but the whole
thing smacks of crappy design. There's a bug somewhere if the file
needs to be locked in that way without any way to override it when
$WHATEVER happens that they do. I've quizzed themabout how it happens
and it doesn't seem like they're doing anything particularly wierd.
They just get killed, go through their possessions, and the window
closes - but then they can't start the next game in the addiction!!!

I'd script something around it for myself, but it seems likely it must
also be a complete pain for $JOEPARENT who could not do that. At the
very least it would be nice if the lock file could be cleaned out on
boot, so that the three-finger-salution could work in such cases.

Of course a fix so the lock couldn't get left lying around would be even
better :-)

Thanks,
Andrew McMillan.

[Bug 598371] Re: Java crashes during Eclipse Helios Start

2010-06-30 Thread Paweł Smoliński
It looks that is the bug in the GTK or Eclipse SWT library.
During window close process method org.eclipse.widgets.Display.removeWidget()
calls native method org.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.OS._g_object_get_qdata() which
causes segmentation fault (it not cause Java exception due we are in native
code).
Display.removeWidget() source code:
Widget removeWidget (long /*int*/ handle) {
if (handle == 0) return null;
lastWidget = null;
Widget widget = null;
int index = (int)/*64*/ OS.g_object_get_qdata (handle,
SWT_OBJECT_INDEX) - 1;
if (0 = index  index  widgetTable.length) {
widget = widgetTable [index];
widgetTable [index] = null;
indexTable [index] = freeSlot;
freeSlot = index;
OS.g_object_set_qdata (handle, SWT_OBJECT_INDEX, 0);
}
return widget;
}

native method implementation:
JNIEXPORT jintLong JNICALL OS_NATIVE(_1g_1object_1get_1qdata)
(JNIEnv *env, jclass that, jintLong arg0, jint arg1)
{
jintLong rc = 0;
OS_NATIVE_ENTER(env, that, _1g_1object_1get_1qdata_FUNC);
rc = (jintLong)g_object_get_qdata((GObject *)arg0, (GQuark)arg1);
OS_NATIVE_EXIT(env, that, _1g_1object_1get_1qdata_FUNC);
