Re: [Bug 593486] Re: website can't be found by firefox
Hello Marc I hope you will receive this because I have a feeling this is very important to others. -- The "bug" or what ever it is -- is NOT my internet connection. However, it took me 2 reformats with reinstalls; and same and worse problem to get it figured out. I am not a technical person so please bare with my language of descriptions. -- Here is what created the problems I am going to explain. Firefox. I got a massive update on firefox and some totems. I went from the 3.0 to 3.6.6. The following are the things that began to happen. 1. Various websites that I visit almost every day -- I could not get to. I would get the white message that said: Page Load Error -- website server cannot be found by firefox. Not being able to access said websites could easily put me out of business on my own website. These particular websites I could not access are websites that I reply on to update my website. Rely on for the link information. My website is: http://www.healingcove.com looking at it you will understand my statement. 2. My website was the next major problem. During this time frame I was doing a massive update -- As I was trying to work on my website it began to freeze. I cleared my cache and cookies and history -- and doing so did nothing. Made no difference. So I did a publish -- but my website did not publish. I rebooted I read everything I could find -- nothing made a difference. 3. Other odd and rather upsetting things began to happen -- and the thought that came to mind -- these strange things were as if I was back on Microsoft -- and had picked up a terrible virus -- yet I have nothing on my computer Microsoft -- I run OS Ubuntu 8.04. -- I was ready to call my computer technician to come see what might be wrong with my computer -- when suddenly I got a pop up that said that I had various add on's that were out of date. I signed on to Synaptic Package Manager -- checked my add on packages -- ALL were up to date -- so now it was really puzzling -- out of frustration I clicked on Firefox and then all the packages that hold the add ons that were supposedly out of date -- and selected: Update and then I also selected: Repair Broken Packages. 4. Outcome of above. I got the red arrow that means I have more updates -- 9-more firefox updates popped up and 3 totems. I did those updates -- rebooted -- went back to Synaptic -- repeated the updates and Repair Broken Packages -- rebooted again. Outcome: A. I could sign on to my vital websites B. I could edit and update my own website. C. The other strange and odd things began to stop -- and within an hour of all this my computer was working correctly except for one thing. That one thing is the Firefox Icon disappeared and a strange black icon replaced it -- so I deleted that black icon that looked like a turned off Monitor -- and replaced it with the Firefox Icon -- which tells me I am doing 3.6.6 So my personal conclusion is -- that when Firefox does that massive update -- it has problems... or what you call bugs. -- I cannot reach Firefox to try to explain this -- but it certainly is a horrifying experience. -- I am a retired senior citizen my brain does not work quickly any more -- so reporting problems to Ubuntu was the only thing I could think to do -- and I hope this information will help others not to go through what I have. -- For I swear to you -- it was like the nightmare I would go through with Microsoft when I used to get Virus. That is why I switched to Ubuntu. -- This computer has never had anything Microsoft. It will infact be 1-year old July 19 -- my birthday. My remaining concern -- I need to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.4 -- but now worry will I go through more things like this. [Bug 601986] [NEW] Disk driver problems on Toshiba NB305Netbook
Public bug reported: Running Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release:10.04 Linux jim-nb 2.6.32-24-generic #38~pre201007021000-Ubuntu SMP Sun Jul 4 06:49:54 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux But problem seen on all kernels tried. Boot process hangs for ~7 minutes, then machine starts. Booting with init=/bin/bash and running "hdparm -t /dev/sda5" (sda5 is my ubuntu fs) gives ~500kB/sec. Completing the upstart process brings disk up to ~40 MB/sec. When " bootchart" is installed machine boots in 23 seconds! Resume from hibernate works. Investigation has shown that a compiled C program with an infinite loop, when run in the background from init-top in the intramfs will also cure the slow boot. The C-program saturates one of the two processors of the Atom N450 (~100% CPU1). It appears that bootchart works its magic by simply saturating one CPU. After boot, running the inifinite loop program brings disk performance (as reported by hdparm) up from 40 MB/sec to 70 MB/sec. Adding highres=off nohz=off to the kernel command line cures slow disk problem but machine runs hot with lower battery life. Adding nohpet to the kernel command line also cures the slow boot but not the resume from suspend. I suspect that the problem lies with ahci.ko or libata. Changing the BIOS disk parameter from ahci to compatibility also cures the problem... but screws up the existing Windows partition. [Bug 255768] Re: evolution asking for a password, even though it should be remembered
This issue has intermittently occurred since I've used evolution, and what I've noticed is that while all works fine your email password(s) are present in your keyring. But when evolution incurs a problem logging in and asks for a password, it deletes your email password(s) from the keyring, it does this regardless of whether you click cancel or enter a password that fails to login. This is a ludicrous situation, evolution should not be allowed permission to delete passwords from the keyring, without it asking for that permission first (which you would deny), so it would continue to work as it should, when the mail servers problem is rectified. -- evolution asking for a password, even though it should be remembered https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/255768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 601220] Re: 1.9.10 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes
Sebastian, This is the reason for making a bug report ("596192) agains PPA version of libcairo2. This is the a piece of advice taken from the xorg-edgers PPA: "If you are not sure or you think it is a packaging issue, file a bug as normal in launchpad (using "ubuntu-bug xorg" or the name of the package) but mark the bug with "[xorg-edgers]" in the title and subscribe the last uploader." However, I have contacted the PPA owner via e-mail too and he is well aware of this issue. The package of libcairo2 in xorg-edgers PPA is now exactly the same as in maverick repo. This being the case, we may not need the bug report "596192" any more. It is important to concentrate on gtk-theme issue a bit more. [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
I'm having this problem since I'm using Ubuntu (Jaunty), I had it with Karmic and now with Lucid. Sometimes, when I log in, the gnome panel is all messed up. In Lucid the affected areas are the Notification Area and the Indicator Applet Session. My only solution to this problem for a long time was to log out and log back in again. This procedure gets on your nerves quickly. But in Lucid I finally find the culprit in my case: the NetworkManager Applet (nm-applet). I removed everything - except the Window List - from the bottom panel, then I removed the Notification Area from the top panel and placed it on the bottom panel in the right corner. As a result of not having the Notification Area (and with it the NetworkManager Applet) on the top panel anymore, my Indicator Applet Session isn't corrupted anymore, no matter how many times I log in. The only icon I have in the Notification Area now is that of the NetworkManager Applet. Even if the nm-applet icon is corrupted when I log in (which happens often), the corruption doesn't affect the Window List and icons placed in the Notification Area after startup (for example the vlc icon when I start the program). So bottom line: I have basically quarantined my Notification Area (and with it the NetworkManager Applet) in the lower right corner of desktop. This is an adequate solution, but still I would really like to see this bug finally fixed, since it's affecting me for a long time. -- visual corruption affecting several panel applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Due to lucid's LTSness and the additional SRU focus on hardware enablement in LTSes I'm in favor of this update. The majority of the diff concerns the backends, which looks fine. [Bug 576724] Re: Ubuntu Lucid grub2 dist-upgrades result in confusion
Following up again. I've also encountered bug #529338 in Maverick now, but only the Maverick on /dev/sda1, NOT the one on /dev/sdb6. Odd I know??? Both are updated to your new grub packages. In Lucid things are similar, I have that bug in the Lucid on /dev/sda3, but NOT the Lucid on /dev/sdb3 that I created/upgraded from Karmic for this test. I've even tried backing out some recent upgrades to gnome- keyring and vinagre with no success. More applicable to your proposed updates, I even renamed /boot/grub, purged grub-common and grub-pc, then installed "grub" and still had the keyring failure with legacy grub. So I'm very convinced that your proposed updates in no way triggered this behavior. I just want to provide you with the best possible info :^) ATM the one commonality is that the problem appears only on the two OS's on my 500GB SATA and not the 80GB IDE so just for fun I'm going to try a fresh Lucid on the 500GB, then check for the problem both before and after applying your updates.
