[Bug 472874] Re: No apparent way to change the color and location of the popups
Well, that's kinda part-and-parcel with closing bugs as already filed. Surely the person closing a bug as a duplicate must have a duplicate bug in hand and not just some idea that some other similar bug must exist. Not especially no, I've read regular discussions and requests for such options over years but I didn't keep note of each bug numbers Put another way, surely the person responsible for a given package or aspect of the distro must be very familiar with all of the open issues, or have the ability to find all open issues related to his responsibilities very quickly and easily -- much more so than a user reporting a bug. Right, it might take a short time search for one duplicate, but hundred of duplicates are opened every day and it quickly counts in hours of time a day, time which could be used to work on the issue or search for numbers. Reopening this bug since I was just trying to keep the buglist usable by closing known duplicates, I don't want to spend my days searching for duplicates, some other triager might pick it up or the bug will just be a bit less easy to work on. -- No apparent way to change the color and location of the popups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/472874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 600056] Re: application windows crash periodically
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Re: [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
One problem and a reason why so many people think that Linux is so non-standard is that when (not IF but WHEN) standards are agreed by various international bodies then MicroSquish goes ahead putting things together the other way around. Since most people's experience of machines is limited to desktop usage their perception is that the Windows way IS the standard way and that everyone else should conform to that. I remember as a child doing something similar when helping with the laundry. When helping put a duvet into it's cover i would agree to go up to the corner on my side of the cover but would instead immediately go up to the opposing corner as fast as possible making it very difficult for the other person to reach a corner without having to mitigate against the total chaos i had caused. Very childish but i found it hilarious everytime. Looking back i really pity my poor mother. MicroSquish appears to behave much the same way. It appears to get involved with setting standards and then works hard against those being able to be delivered. Those that do conform to the standards are then seen as different and non-standard. Note that with OpenSource Drivers there is really very little difference between the drivers for the various operating systems and different releases but each Windows platform (Xp, Vista, Win7) requires very different drivers. The OpenSource ones can fairly easily be tweaked for Mac and i assume for BSD too but an XP driver would need a substantial re-write to work with Win7. Also while OpenSource drivers are often tweaked for free by people interested in getting their own system to work (or helpful people) the proprietary ones often need heavy investment and resourcing from the originating company. So, instead of clever programmers being resourced to develop clever new innovations a lot of times they are being forced to just do re-writes of stuff that already exists. Their employers being quite scared of them finding out anything useful or interesting or seeing the big picture. Instead of being treated as Rock-Stars they are often treated with suspicion contempt by the very people that are paying their wages. At least this is the impression i get of the current situation and i think we have got to do something to change this otherwise, if we keep making extremely clever people bitter and resentful then instead of making good progress we will continue to find ourselves continually held back (at best). If writing viruses is more fun than work then of course people will write them. In linux-land i think most of us do begin to appreciate our developers a lot more and it is hopefully more fun to write something productive than writing a virus, which i think is one reason why we see so much development and so few viruses in linux-land Regards from Tom :) PS Hopefully we are doing something to change the demotivating dynamic of the Windows-world by helping people move into linux-land -- Microsoft has a majority market share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this happened as soon as I upgraded to Lucid. [Bug 601888] Re: [Wishlist] Ubiquity-Installer-Slideshow should link to local support-communities
Hi! I definitely see where you are coming from here, and I'd love to help get this right. However, we are reluctant to put links to things that are not _directly_ connected with the Ubuntu project in the slideshow. First of all, that means translations conveying different meaning from source text, which can create a bit of a mess. And, if those links change, we're toast ;) We have to remember that websites are (sadly) fallible, but ubuntu.com (being directly connected) has a life about as long as Ubuntu itself. Slightly less of an issue for Maverick, but it is a big one for any LTS especially. The idea is that ubuntu.com/support can lead you to language-specific support and loco teams, so it's a nice overview to start with. It's also a link that somebody can write down, go to later and understand what it's all about. I have always kind of assumed that ubuntu.com was in a good state with regards to localization. A website can detect that stuff really easily with the Accept-Language request header. I tried changing my preferred language in Firefox and start.ubuntu.com figured it out nicely, but ubuntu.com didn't change at all. Eek! Personally, I think the better long-term approach would be if ubuntu.com did localization, at least for this section… -- [Wishlist] Ubiquity-Installer-Slideshow should link to local support-communities https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/601888 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 601220] Re: 1.9.10 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes
Hi Sebastian, I would like to keep these bug reports separate because of the following reasons. 1) The bug report #596192 was originally made for xorg-edgers PPA and for lucid and for the reason that newer libcairo2 brought about issues with emerald. 2) The bug report #601220 (this one) was originally made for maverick development release, where new libcairo2 was pulled in. The issues concerning color blends seems to have quite much to do with gtk-themes (like human-theme_0.39). Now, as it is not even clear if there is anything wrong in the package libcairo2 concerning the color blend issue, please keep these bug reports separate. My workaround for the time being is to use a gtk-theme not using color blends. I personally chose the theme human-clearlooks with controls mist. At least with gnome-shell it works swiftly, whereas themes with color blends work much more slowly. -- 1.9.10 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/601220 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 598389] Re: Cross build needs rpath with xdeb
Ok, my pcre3 issue is probably unrelated; just for the record, I remember I hit this a while ago while building my own cross-toolchains: libtool insists adding -L/usr/lib to the build while libs are only in /usr/$triplet/lib; this causes the linker to try to link against the libs from the build system rather than the target libs first. The linker would actually skip over the x86 /usr/lib/libm.so if it knew it is an x86 lib, but it doesn't unless configured with --enable- target=$(triplet of build system). I used this gross hack of adding an --enable-target= for the build system back then, simply because the number of upstreams using libtool was too big and I didn't have time to identify a libtool fix. I believe the right way is to solve libtool. The issue with the hack is that it would allow doing the wrong thing when cross-building e.g. armv5 on armv6 or vice-versa, or i686 on i586 etc. -- Cross build needs rpath with xdeb https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/598389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

They all ran fine using the default graphics for my ATI Radeon X200 (integrated) graphics card. I recently installed (not upgraded, I did a clean install) 10.04 Lucid Lynx. I've tried playing SMC and using Google Earth with the default driver. SMC is not playable to to graphics lag and Google Earth renders horribly. Somehow everything worked nicely on Jaunty with the default driver but on Lucid with it's default driver things don't work well. ** Affects: kdegames (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ati radeon x200 -- strange graphics problems after switching to Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/601773 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdegames in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 593206] Re: Firefox freeze all sistem
Well, this bug also afects me... I bumped into it and tryed it in my firefox... And bang!!! The system also freezes, exactly as described. It is pretty annoyng because since I got this bug i'm obcessed w/ that site... And I go there everytime my system updates. Besides, linux time-line seems really cool, and I would really like to examine that site further... I really enjoy Ubuntu, it is really better that Windows (this weeked I log into my windows, just to play PES and... Bang, BSOD -.- ), still, not being able to carefully explore that site its driving me nuts... And I'm thinking of changing distro, or even return to windows. [Bug 551130] Re: infinite loop in /etc/init/mysql.conf if mysqld is not running.
In my case it must have been webmin that's put something in the my.cnf file that it doesn't like. I'll have to find out what it doesn't like and file a separate bug against webmin, as the cause - but meanwhile I can confirm there is a bug with the startup script. [Bug 601220] Re: 1.9.10 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes
1) The bug report #596192 was originally made for xorg-edgers PPA and for lucid and for the reason that newer libcairo2 brought about issues with emerald. 2) The bug report #601220 (this one) was originally made for maverick development release, where new libcairo2 was pulled in. Is the only reason then the difference of versions?
