[Bug 604140] Re: ImportError: cannot import name GObject

2010-07-11 Thread Anders Norgaard
Hi Zachary,

Thanks for uploading your -maverick-20100710-1.tgz file.

When I look in it the proc_ps.log ends with a line half written, and
proc_stat.log and proc_diststat.log are both empty.

My guess is that the bootchart logger crashed randomly for some reason.

Can you reproduce the error?

Best,
Anders

2010-07-11 Thread Mr Canis
Hi all,

I upgraded from 9.10, latest patch status, to 10.04 via update-manager.
It's a virtual machine, powered by VMware Workstations 7.1 hosted on a
Dell Inspiron 6400 running Ubuntu 10.04.

- Upgrade procedure runs flawless, except that the upgrade procedure didn't
recognize that there is already Grub2 installed. After
I selected Keep current configuration..., I got a message that it could be
that the actual grub configuration won't be able to
handle the installation. However the system was booting fine - no errors etc.
- I tried to recompile the VMware Tools, but there I got the first time the
message regarding to the mtrr.
- I re-installed the VMware Tools (that's without compiling) and it seems that
the VMware Tools since then working fine.
- But in /var/log/dmesg I found this:

I got the same issue upgrading because a trigger was activated while

 python2.6 correctly depends on python2.6-minimal (= ${binary:Version}),
yet python2.6 was unpacked before python2.6-minimal.

I wonder if this is an aptitude bug or some dep loop somewhere, but I
 couldn't find the latter.

[Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change

2010-07-11 Thread Bruce R
Sorry guys, some more information. Having just today re-checked it out, I can
advise that for Ubuntu and LinuxMint, you also need gstreamer LAME plugins etc
installed, most easily achieved by adding ubuntu-restricted-extras, which I am
in the habit of always doing, if only to get MicroSoft Core Fonts installed, to
ease cross-platform interoperation.
For the real techies amongst you, gst-inspect lame will then lead you on to the
LAME plugin commands that are applicable to that specific implementation of
Linux LAME, so have fun !

[Bug 192550] Re: glxgears image split across screen in hardy 64-bit

2010-07-11 Thread Philip Muškovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in fglrx-kernel-source.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Also I'm closing this report as the last post says that this is fixed in
newer fglrx drivers.

[Bug 595650] Re: After the last updates HP printer stopped working

2010-07-11 Thread vDopey
Hi Just to raise priority of this, there is also forum postings about
this here:

http://ubuntu-ky.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1524438page=2 , I
had the same problem and tried a myriad of different things none of
which worked, but downgrading libusb obviously does, as below:

sudo apt-get install libusb-0.1-4=2:0.1.12-14

I had several different errors associated around this, initially it
would fail to register the printer with an error about

usbfs: interface 0 claimed by usblp while 'usb' sets config #1

Following instructions from here:

http://www.archivum.info/ubuntu-
b...@lists.ubuntu.com/2010-05/67366/(Bug-420015)-Re-usblp-Kernel-module-
needs-to-be-removed-and-dev-bus-usb---made-accessible-for-USB-printers-
to-work-with-CUP.html

The error was changed to the following:

hp[5252]: prnt/backend/hp.c 752: INFO: open device failed stat=21:
hp:/usb/hp_LaserJet_1010?serial=(removed); will retry in 30 seconds

The problem is definitely with libusb as downgrading solved my issues as well.

[Bug 604278] [NEW] Upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 exits with code 1

The package 'skype-common' is marked for removal but it is in the removal

[Bug 604276] [NEW] LTSP clients got 0.0.0.0 broadcast address from the server after booting

2010-07-11 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ltsp-client-core

My LTSP installation works great except for this issue: the LTSP clients
got 0.0.0.0 broadcast address from the server after booting.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Unlock the chroot root account following this howto:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/UnlockChrootRootAcct
2. Boot an LTSP client.
3. When LDM is displayed, press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to a text console.
4. Login as root.
5. Type ifconfig.

Result:

All the IP parameters has been correctly set up from the DHCP server,
except for the broadcast address, which has been set as 0.0.0.0:

r...@p8pc1:~# ifconfig eth0
eth0Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:27:d6:3b:40
inet addr:192.168.0.2 Bcast:0.0.0.0 Mask:255.255.0.0
inet6 addr:fe80::a00:27ff:fed6:3b40/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets: 79891 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets: 14726 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:120036016 (120.0 MB) TX bytes:1055693 (1.0 MB)

If I then do a udhcpc eth0 to get a new DHCP lease, I get:

r...@p8pc1:~# udhcpc eth0
udhcpc (v0.9.9-pre) started
Sending discover...
Sending select for 192.168.0.2...
Lease of 192.168.0.2 obtained, lease time 43200
Resetting default routes
adding dns 192.168.0.1

and now I have all the IP params perfectly setup, including the
broadcast address:

r...@p8pc1:~# ifconfig eth0
eth0Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:27:d6:3b:40
inet addr:192.168.0.2 Bcast:192.168.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0
inet6 addr:fe80::a00:27ff:fed6:3b40/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets: 81418 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets: 15092 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:122309092 (122.3 MB) TX bytes:1086942 (1.0 MB)

So obviously this is not a problem on the dhcpd configuration in the
LTSP server.

[Bug 604276] Re: LTSP clients got 0.0.0.0 broadcast address from the server after booting

2010-07-11 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
I have a workaround which involves hacking of the
/opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/udhcp:

1. Enter chroot.
2. # vi /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/udhcp
and comment the line 151 which says chmod +x /tmp/dhcp-script.sh.
3. # update-initramfs -u
4. Exit chroot.
5. sudo ltsp-update-kernels
6. sudo ltsp-update-image

Since then, my LTSP clients has their correct address broadcast.

However, there's one problem with this workaround: the DNS address is
not correctly set up. Any clues?

[Bug 570858] Re: Can't install dvipsk-ja in Lucid Lynx

2010-07-11 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
The FTBFS bug is fixed in Debian sid and Maverick(5.98+p1.7b-1). Please
SRU.

Lucid's dvipsk-ja (5.96+jp1.7a-3.1build1) is based on TeXLive
2007(libkpathsea4),
however Lucid's TeXLive adopt 2009/libkpathsea5(#511502), and old dvipsk-ja
couldn't accept libkpathsea5 by build. Therefore, needs upgrade version.
More information, refer following debian bugs:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=565233

I confirmed followings with 5.98+p1.7b-1:
* can build package successfully on lucid, refer to pbuilder.log
* can install new binary package
* can convert simple Japanese dvi file to PostScript file without error
* can view abobe Japanese PostScript file with Evince

Debian changelog:
dvipsk-ja (5.98+p1.7b-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
  * Add myself to Uploaders.
  * Change Source format: 3.0(quilt)
- multipule source format, jpatch and dvipsk(stripped texlive-bin_2009)
  * rempve README.Debian, PSTricks.patch: PSTricks.patch merge upstream.
  * remove obsolute patches:
- remove dpatch in Build-Depend, using quilt instead of dpatch
- 01_dvipsk-ja_5.96-p1.7a.dpatch: remove, using new upstream patches
- 02_rename_getline.dpatch: upstream using tl_getline instead of getline
  * Add new patches:
- change_m4_and_build-aux_path: location changed by stripped source
- rename_test_script: binary name changed by jpatch
- change_install_destination: set install path for Debian TeX Policy.
  * Change debian/rules:
- change drastically, using magic debhelper 7 rules.
  * Bumped to Standards-Version: 3.8.4
  * Build using new libkpathsea-dev (Closes: #562440, #565233)

[Bug 194783] Re: Garbled X display due to incorrect H/W detection.

2010-07-11 Thread Philip Muškovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. Can you try with the
latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 604283] [NEW] network servers do not listen on 127.0.1.1

2010-07-11 Thread Brian Burch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ifupdown

release: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (but probably all releases back to Hardy and forward
to Maverick)
package: ifupdown: Installed: 0.6.8ubuntu29

Since upgrading my systems to lucid and cleaning up the configurations,
I've noticed strange behaviour where client tcp or udp sessions to local
tcp/ip servers have timed out even though the servers were running and
netstat showed they were listening on all interfaces. Wireshark traces
showed that successful connections went to 127.0.0.1, while any
connection attempt to 127.0.1.1 would fail.

The systems are fully controlled by NetworkManager offtopica long and painful
story!/offtopic and so /etc/network/interfaces contains only two lines:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

This minimal configuration is not only highly recommended to avoid
wierd behaviour with NetworkManager, but also to avoid problems with
upstart (e.g.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/497299). All the
other network interfaces are managed by NM.

In the old days, a typical /etc/hosts file would define all the local
hostnames as follows:
127.0.0.1 myhostname.localdomain myhostname localhost.localdomain
localhost

For several releases (back as far as Hardy), ubuntu installations have been
creating a more sophisticated version of the hosts file (presumably because of
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=316099), e.g.
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 myhostname.mydomain myhostname

This modern variant allows the system to always resolve its own hostname
and canonical name, even when there is no external network.

It appears to work really well... e.g. ping hostname and ping
localhost both succeed. hostname and hostname -f return the
expected values. (note: I don't fully understand why ping hostname
actually works - perhaps because the class A 127.0.0.0 subnet has been
defined for ever as a loopback subnet?).

The problem comes when a local client tries to connect to a local server... a
well-behaved server will listen on all available network interfaces, e.g.
br...@myhostname:~$ netstat -ln | grep 53
tcp0 0 10.1.252.115:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

tcp0 0 192.168.252.115:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

tcp0 0 127.0.0.1:530.0.0.0:* LISTEN

udp0 0 10.1.252.115:53 0.0.0.0:*

udp0 0 192.168.252.115:53 0.0.0.0:*

udp0 0 127.0.0.1:530.0.0.0:*

... so, when a client tries to connect to the local server (in my not
very realistic example you would have to edit /etc/resolv.conf to point
to myhostname instead of the default localhost), the nslookup connection
would never be received by the local bind server and so will eventually
time out.

If we are to keep the new style hosts file structure (and I think we
should), then we MUST ensure that local servers are able to access all
available interfaces, including BOTH of the loopback addresses mentioned
in the hosts file, so we need to define an additional interface for the
myhostname loopback address.

This can be easily demonstrated by defining a second (virtual) address for the
lo interface:
sudo ifconfig lo:0 127.0.1.1 netmask 255.0.0.0

Stop the server and it will discover the extra interface when it is restarted:
br...@myhostname:~$ netstat -ln | grep 53
tcp0 0 10.1.252.115:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

tcp0 0 192.168.252.115:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

tcp0 0 127.0.1.1:530.0.0.0:* LISTEN

tcp0 0 127.0.0.1:530.0.0.0:* LISTEN

udp0 0 10.1.252.115:53 0.0.0.0:*

udp0 0 192.168.252.115:53 0.0.0.0:*

udp0 0 127.0.1.1:530.0.0.0:*

udp0 0 127.0.0.1:530.0.0.0:*

Of course, this circumvention will only last until the next reboot. The
solution can be made permanent by updating the
/etc/networking/interfaces file to automatically bring up both loopback
interfaces early in the boot process:

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# automatically bring up both these interfaces at boot (ifup -a == all)
auto lo lo:0

# The standard loopback network interface
iface lo inet loopback

# another loopback interface for that pesky dual loopback hosts file
iface lo:0 inet static
  address 127.0.1.1
  netmask 255.0.0.0

I do not know if there is a more elegant solution to the same problem

2010-07-11 Thread Mohamed Amine IL Idrissi
To gather more informations, you shouldn't run pm-suspend in a graphical
terminal. Instead, switch to VT1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and run the following commands:
(without the quotes)
setfont /usr/share/consolefonts/Uni1-VGA8.psf.gz
sudo pm-suspend
This will enable a smaller font for the terminal, so more messages will appear
on the screen.
Please report any messages you see, either by writing them by hand, or taking a

[Bug 604288] [NEW] Lucid Lynx upstart 0.6.5-6 not starting services

2010-07-11 Thread rsoulliere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

Recent upgrade from Karmic (9.10) to Lucid (10.04) - server, 64 bit
version.

Upstart services are not starting at boot. These include vsftpd and mysqld.
I also cannot start them manually using the start command such as sudo start
mysql.
No output is returned on the console and I do not know which log files to check
to see what is going on.

if I run apt-cache policy upstart, I get

upstart:
  Installed: 0.6.5-6
  Candidate: 0.6.5-6
  Version table:
 *** 0.6.5-6 0

If I run: initctl list
no output is returned on the console which leads me to assume that upstart is
starting no services.

many .conf files exist in the /etc/init/ directory so they should be
started by upstart and they should be returned by initctl list, right?

If this is a different error, please direct me to some good error logs
to start tracking it down.

I tried reinstalling upstart, but this did not fix the problem. I also
tried reinstalling several of the applications.

Thanks,
Robert

2010-07-11 Thread Johan Van de Wauw
It is the first time I use dpatch - so hope I did it correctly.

I included the patch of Jürgen (BTW: do I understand it correctly that
this only applies when the other qt 4.7 changes are made. Otherwise this
should also be fixed in debian).

Anyway, libqt4-webkit-dev should also be added to build-depends, dpatch
doesn't record this change.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-07-11 Thread slayer
Maybe I am starting to figure out something...
I've got a dual monitor configuration (not xinerama) and, since i installed the
second monitor, this bug we're talking about always happened on the left one
(the principal).
Interestingly the icons on top right are not the same: wireless is present only
in the left monitor, the email and the audio icon only on the right.
more interestingly some of the icons are duplicated, as the shutdown button and
the session indicator button.

1) Most of the times I encounter this bug the shutdown button disappears
and the session indicator appears duplicated.

2) Most of the times the shut down button is not disappeared, the
session indicator one appears corrupted.

3) In this precise moment my right screen icons are regular; on my right
(principal) screen all the icons are on their place but the session
indicator. It is duplicated, visible and working on the right screen,
not visible yet working on the left one.

Concluding, I firmly believe the problem of the visual corruption relies in the
session indicator applet (which may explain why previous ubuntu versions are
not affected by this bug)
it may sound complicated, so I am adding a couple of screenshots...

Errata corrige (sorry i am tired):

1) Most of the times I encounter this bug the shutdown button disappears
and the session indicator appears duplicated on the left / principal
screen.

2) Most of the times the shut down button is not disappeared, the
session indicatoron the left / principal screen appears corrupted.

3) In this precise moment my right screen icons are regular; on my left
(principal) screen all the icons are on their place, except the session
indicator. It is duplicated, visible and working on the right /
secondary screen, not visible yet working on the left / principal one.

Concluding, I firmly believe the problem of the visual corruption relies in the
session indicator applet (which may explain why previous ubuntu versions are
not affected by this bug)
it may sound complicated, so I am adding a couple of screenshots...

Re: [Bug 604252] Re: system freeze before entering suspend

2010-07-11 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Suspending from a VT with pm-suspend works well.
Suspending from xorg using the GUI hangs the system on VT1. I have no
flashing lights n the caps-lock when the hang happens.
Should I also test suspending from xorg using pm-suspend inside gnome-terminal?
