[Bug 624739] Re: /etc/tomcat6 is created with the wrong permissions

2010-08-28 Thread Yves Glodt
Hi,

thanks for your explanation.

I have the same problem actually on other hosts not running OpenCms.

I suspect there must be something fishy in my service/engine/host
configuration (It should be changed to write to /etc/tomcat/Catalina/ as
you suggested for auto-deployment)

Best regards!

[Bug 423252] Re: NSS using LDAP+SSL breaks setuid applications like su and sudo

2010-08-28 Thread Arthur de Jong
Regarding the pam_check_host_attr and pam_check_service_attr options of
pam_ldap, nslcd has a pam_authz_search option that can replace
functionality of those options (and much more). This option has been in
nss-pam-ldapd since version 0.7.4.

Any other feature requests (and bug reports) are very much welcome on
the nss-pam-ldapd-users mailing list.

Regarding the previous comment, could you file a bug report on the nss-
pam-ldapd package if you think the problem is there? From the log it
shows that only three lookups for the user user333 came in. No
authentication requests were done for that user (at least not through
nslcd).

[Bug 625740] [NEW] Sync quagga 0.99.17-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-08-28 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

of the debdiff shows also no huge changes to the source (except
generated files like configure and .in files).

[Bug 625812] [NEW] Install needs to turn off Reverse Path Filtering

2010-08-28 Thread bret clark
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: quagga

In Ubuntu Server Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS reverse path filtering is enabled
(1) by default which causes havoc with BGP and potentially and other
routing protocol in which a packet may go out one (1) interface but
return in another interface. The installation package needs to turn off
reverse path filtering so that routing works correctly.

Editing /etc/sysctl.conf to have the following entries resolves this
problem:

net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter=0
net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter=0

Also from a shell prompt running the following will resolved the issue:
sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.eth0.rp_filter=0
sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.eth1.rp_filter=0
sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.eth2.rp_filter=0
sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.eth3.rp_filter=0
sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter=0
sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter=0

To confirm if Reverse Path Filter is on (1) or off (0) the following command
will show that:
sysctl -a | grep \\.rp_filter

net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter = 0
net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 0
net.ipv4.conf.lo.rp_filter = 0
net.ipv4.conf.eth0.rp_filter = 0
net.ipv4.conf.eth1.rp_filter = 0

(Although it may *seem* like a CC problem, it *may* originate in the

solved (as I suspect it has) in 2.0.0, currently in Maverick, that would
help a lot. Thanks!

[Bug 573975] Re: pxe image fails to boot: Forbidden directory

2010-08-28 Thread Sam Smith
Upgraded server from 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS on 8/21/2010. Server was
running LTSP with 8.04. Same issue with clients not able to access tftp
directory. The fix suggested by Inno to change the directory and add
--secure worked (THANK YOU!):

# /etc/default/tftpd-hpa

TFTP_USERNAME=tftp
#TFTP_DIRECTORY=/srv/tftp
TFTP_DIRECTORY=/var/lib/tftpboot
TFTP_ADDRESS=0.0.0.0:69
#TFTP_OPTIONS=
TFTP_OPTIONS=--secure

Changed the two lines and issued sudo ltsp-update-kernels plus sudo
restart tftpd-hpa.

Since it just happened, I would consider it still a bug in the upgrade
process for systems with LTSP.

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-08-28 Thread Rene
Dear All,
This bug affects me from lucid.
As I don't have ipv6 available, I am used to de-activate it. But this bug still
affected me.
I tried the workarounds.
AddressFamily inet to sshd_config works for me.
add the -4 to the exec line in /etc/init/ssh.conf .. works for me

also it seems that stop, then start is needed for me to apply the new
config.

I prefer customize sshd_config, because I always modify it for my
personal config, so its just one more line...

[Bug 623794] Re: evolution address book has quit unexpectedly

2010-08-28 Thread Deric Venra
Hi Pedro

I have run an update and upgrade this morning and tried again. The
evolution address book no longer segfaults and works as it should. I
will test over the next couple of days. If needed i can downgrade the
evolution to get the backtrace but as it is fixed now with the new
version being 2.30.2-1ubuntu2 I am unsure how to proceed.

Please advise.

Regards
Thank you for your help with this.

[Bug 435990] Re: fox fatigue: getting progessively slower until unusable

2010-08-28 Thread Zoubidoo
@drew: If you read the rest of the bug description you'll see this isn't
about a crash. So a backtrace is not possible and an strace would run
into the gigabytes.

The flash/java versions are not particularly relevant because this bug dates
from at least release 9.04 so the versions have changes several times without
affecting the bug. But for completeness:
openjdk-6-jre 6b18-1.8.1-0ubuntu1
flashplugin-installer 10.1.82.76ubuntu0.10.04.2

The extensions in use have already been listed above. For completeness
here they are again: flashblock, adblock plus, downloadhelper.

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem. Good luck
with that. I don't think this bug will be understood until we have some
way of seeing where the CPU cycles are going. A useful step forward
would be to see if the cpu being hogged in one of the extensions or in
firefox, and if it's in firefox what part. Suggestions to achieve that
would be helpful.

As a follow-up to the last comment, APT actually hangs near the end of
the terminal history log. In particular, it locks up without consuming
any CPU. This is definitely what an infinite loop would do.

[Bug 607679] Re: xfce desktop does not comes back after starting Opengl/urbanterror app.

2010-08-28 Thread Nikola M.
I am not sure how bringing Gnome desktop instead of xfdesktop have to do with
any application actually.
What Gnome desktop is doing behind, before starting xfdesktop, in the first
place? (I think I see the same thing happening even on booting up machine,
after I log in to Xfce desktop). First Gnome desktop appears and then xfdesktop
kicks in, so it sounds to me like some flaw in a way environment is bring up.

I guess that application does not call Gnome desktop do wake up by itself?
How do you propose i can catch what application is doing in this regard?
Wwhat other applications you would propose I could try to test, I observed this
behavior currently only with UT.

But I also observed this behavior upon logging in sometimes, when only Gnome
desktop is displayed and I fix it upon logging in by sending 'pkill xfdeskop'
and then it reloads and replaces Gnome dektop that was displayed upon logging
in to Xfce session.
Why Gnome dektop is in background there, anyway?

[Bug 610358] Re: Full disk prevents from starting a graphical session (and Ubuntu does not warn)

2010-08-28 Thread YannUbuntu
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

  How to reproduce :
  - start long operations filling disk space, for example big downloads or DVD
rip, etc..
  - Ubuntu (gnome-disk-utility/gdu-notification-daemon) pop ups messages
warning that the disk has few space left, and proposes to empty trash. Remark :
if the user has left his computer he will not see all these messages.
  - when disk is full (less than ~10Mo, I did not check exactly), log out your
session, or restart your computer

Result : it is IMPOSSIBLE to start a graphical session (Gnome, KDE, Lubuntu,
Openbox, Gnome backup session...), and there is no explanation about it in GDM.
The only one working is the xterm session, which is not understandable by
non-technical users.

-
  What I propose :
- - In a short term : warn the user (via gdu-notification-daemon pop-up windows
for example) that a full disk prevents from starting a graphical session (or
more generally Ubuntu may not work properly if the disk is full or nearly
full)
+ - In a short term : warn the user (via gdu-notification-daemon pop-up windows
for example) that Ubuntu may not work properly (impossible to start a
graphical session... ) if the disk is full or nearly full. We can also add a
More information button explaining the technical reason.
  - In a medium term : find a way (quotas?) to ensure that the users can always
start a graphical session

[Bug 625676] Re: Infinite loop in APT: Hang at 'Unpacking'

2010-08-28 Thread ks64
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: apt

When I ran APT the last time successfully, the command hung at
- Unpacking, so I decided to 'killall -9' it and blame the problem on an
- infinite loop.
-
- The next time I ran APT, even with nothing but Firefox and the terminal
- running, I got the attached message (along with any equivalent messages
- in the GUI programs that depend on it) and keep getting it, every time I
- run the programs.
+ Unpacking. I made the mistake of killing it, and so I decided to rm
+ the /var/lib/dpkg/lock file and run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'. I now
+ definitely think that it might be an infinite loop causing the problem,
+ as it hangs without consuming any CPU.

[Bug 613611] Re: Error when try to windows shared printer in AD environment

2010-08-28 Thread Alessandro Mendolia
I see Bug #482836 but don't seem the same problem.

I noticed that the 'only procedure that works is to:

1. machine to join the domain
2. print a test page from a local user (request AD username and password )
3. then prints work with every AD users logged on linux box ...

I try to copy the files printers.conf and *. ppd from a properly working
pc to another pc and I see the printers but I find in

[Bug 583539] Re: Lucid freeze during large file transfer

2010-08-28 Thread fraseyboy
Another confirmation of the severity of this bug. It happens every time
I transfer a file which is over 500mb or so between hard-
drives/partitions. The system locks up and freezes periodically during
the transfer making it effectively unusable during this time.

I am on Ubuntu 10.04 with all updates applied on a Core 2 Duo E6300
system with 2GB of RAM.

[Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-08-28 Thread markling
I was unable to execute these commands.

The last generated an error:

couldn't find package linux-image-2.6.34-v9patch-generic

I tried the patch after being told that it might make it possible for me
to upgrade to Ubuntu v10. I'm still unable to upgrade to Ubuntu v10:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9774440#post9774440

The first command in your list is erroneous (apt-add). I'm sure this is
plain to see for most people, but it does not fill a feeble linux user
like myself with confidence.

[Bug 625692] [NEW] [Maverick] Unbelievably slow internet

2010-08-28 Thread Lollerke
Public bug reported:

I installed yestedays daily live and todays avahi updates, but everything is
slow. When I open up a web page in any browser it says: looking up ... waiting
for... and pages are still not fully loaded after 3 mins. Installing programs
with apt-get is 10mins because it takes 4min to start downloading, after that
the downloading speed is good. I guess it's a DNS resolving problem.
If I boot into 8.04.4 everything is fine and fast, so its 100% that this is a
Maverick problem.

[Bug 616601] Re: Amarok cannot edit the tags of some ogg vorbis files

2010-08-28 Thread dikkjo
Hello,

i would say that there is a general problems with tags, ogg but also mp3 files
are affected.
Im observing a strange behaviour, like if i edit tags with exfalso everything
seems ok, but in amarok i cant see the changes?? At the very best tags are just
greyed out. Maybe an update of libtag?

[Bug 344093] Re: SATA DVD drive not detected in Jaunty (testing)

2010-08-28 Thread Josh Schlenker
I'm having the identical problem with the lite-on blu-ray IOS104 blu-ray
drive on an ASUS M4N68T (nvidia mcp61 chipset) motherboard with fedora
12 (2.6.31.5).

I tried upgrading to 2.6.32.19 to take advantage of this patch, but this
*does not* fix the problem for me. I also tried to boot the maverick
alpha 3 live cd from this drive so I could try 2.6.35, but no luck there
either. After the initial bootup by the bios the drive is lost when the
kernel is loaded. Similar to what others have reported, I am able to
boot mandriva 2007.0 from the drive w/o problems.

I looked closer at the patch and it is only for mcp5x chipsets which
explains why this is still an issue for me on the latest kernels.

I was wondering if it would be possible to compile the version of
nv_sata used in mandriva 2007 with the kernel in fedora and boot with
this modified kernel whenever I needed to use the drive as a work around
until this gets fixed for my hardware. Would there be conflicts between
of an old nv_sata and a new kernel? I am a linux noobie and have never
tried compiling the kernel before, so I have no idea how feasible this
is or how to try it myself.

[Bug 565543] Re: Alps touchpad detected as ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse(in VAIO E series) after the kernel upgrade

2010-08-28 Thread Martin Thielen
Hi, just to eventually add something to solving the problem:

I just installed Kernel v2.6.35.4-maverick and now my touchpad is
recognized as touchpad again:

xinput says:

(2)]
⎜ ↳ ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=15 [slave pointer (2)]

where before it was just this generic ImPS/2 thing. I can now access
Gsynaptics and the touchpad-options under preferences-mouse (or at
least i think it is, i'm using the german version so the names may not
be correct).

(Downside is that the Fn-Buttons aren't working as smooth as before, but
that's not as important to me then having the touchpad work right)

[Bug 625703] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] White screen after login

2010-08-28 Thread YannUbuntu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On Ubuntu 10.04, using Xorg-edgers PPA.

- yesterday with updated packages, my Gnome session was working well with
Compiz.
- today I updating my packages (including xorg-edgers's ones),
- after rebooting, my Gnome session leads me to a white screen where i can
see the mouse cursor, and Compiz seems to work (a Compiz workspace chooser
effect works, showing a small version of my 4 workspaces, but they are all
white)
- Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (that I had configured previously also) works and leads me
to GDM.

From GDM I can connect without any problem to Kubuntu, Lubuntu and
Gnome failsafe sessions.

So I guess this bug is related to a combinaison of Compiz + today's
XorgPPA update.

Please also note that for this bug report , I did ubuntu-bug xorg from a
Gnome failsafe session.

  - after rebooting, my Gnome session leads me to a white screen where i can
see the mouse cursor, and Compiz seems to work (a Compiz workspace chooser
effect works, showing a small version of my 4 workspaces, but they are all
white)
  - Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (that I had configured previously also) works and leads
me to GDM.

From GDM I can connect without any problem to Kubuntu, Lubuntu and
  Gnome failsafe sessions.

So I guess this bug is related to a combinaison of Compiz + today's
  XorgPPA update.
+
+
+ Please also note that for this bug report , I did ubuntu-bug xorg from a
Gnome failsafe session.

[Bug 625692] Re: [Maverick] Unbelievably slow internet

2010-08-28 Thread Lollerke
apport information

** Description changed:

I installed yestedays daily live and todays avahi updates, but everything is
slow. When I open up a web page in any browser it says: looking up ... waiting
for... and pages are still not fully loaded after 3 mins. Installing programs
with apt-get is 10mins because it takes 4min to start downloading, after that
the downloading speed is good. I guess it's a DNS resolving problem.
- If I boot into 8.04.4 everything is fine and fast, so its 100% that this is a
Maverick problem.
+ If I boot into 8.04.4 everything is fine and fast, so its 100% that this is a
Maverick problem.
+ The same net connection is working perfect with Realtek 8193too wired
connection, so it looks like this is an ath5k issue.
