[Bug 659880] Re: libapache2-mod-php5 will consume all available memory when installed and activated
Hello mayukmok00, thanks so much for taking the time to file this bug report and help make Ubuntu better! The logs I see above don't help very much in determining what happened to your server. However these two lines are very telling: [Tue Oct 12 15:28:09 2010] [notice] Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) DAV/2 SVN/1.6.6 mod_fcgid/2.3.4 PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ruby/1.2.6 Ruby/1.8.7(2010-01-10) mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8k configured -- resuming normal operations [Tue Oct 12 15:28:56 2010] [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting The sever reached MaxClients in under 60 seconds of uptime. Also I see PHP, fcgid, and Ruby all in this one server, so its possible other things are using up all of the RAM. In short, I believe this may be due to the web applications you are serving, not any bug in php. Can you repeat the sequence which causes the problems on a machine that is not serving heavy production traffic? Also something that would be useful would be the output of: ps auxww | grep www-data Which should show the running swelled up processes. Thanks! I've tried the test.php script on maverick and it definitely exits abruptly where one would not expect it to. It looks like something had locked /var/cache/debconf/config.dat during the configuration of clamav-base fuser -v /var/cache/debconf/config.dat will return the locking process if any. Kill it and try performing the upgrade again. Most often, this is only a transient situation and fuser will return nothing. Simply performing the update again should solve this issue. Re: [Bug 658795] Re: postfix gets confused with non-alphanumeric local hostname
RFC 2119 (IIRC, I don't have web access to check) generally discourages TLD validation, but calls out all numeric TLDs as an exception that should be checked. So in general, I agree about TLD validation, but all numeric is an exception. I agree that there is an issue, but not in the postfix package. Its input validation is catching the results of input validation failures elsewhere in the system. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 97513 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/97513 I have confirmed this; squid is controlled using upstart so actually starts up after the NetworkManager has bought up the network interface as it depends on this event (which puts us in a slightly different/better position to the issue described in Fedora) However, when the network configuration changes, squid does not restart and pickup any new resolv.conf configuration. [Bug 97513] Re: squid starts before resolv.conf is populated
In most cases NetworkManager is used for configuring network interfaces. I attached a file that should be placed /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/ and this solves the issue. [Bug 660747] [NEW] Maverick corrupts files on samba network shares
Public bug reported: my installtion of Ubuntu 10.10 64Bit Desktop Edition has one severe Problem when using Samba Shares: When I edit files (i.e. using gedit) that lie on the Network share and I happen to remove some content (making the file smaller in size) and then save the file, The file get's corrupted - the size remains the same as it was before, and when I reopen the file has trailing garbage. This also happens if I try to overwrite a file with one that is smaller, the result is garbage. What can I do against it ? Details: Always reproductible. Happens with smb shares that lie on Windows Machines as well as with an Ubuntu Hardy Server's share. Only my Maverick Machine produces this corruption. Copying new files works without problems. Increasing file size also works. Just when I try to decrease the file size corruption occurs. The only workaround I have so far is to delete the file on the share, and then copy the new file - quite annoying. Looking through the Debian changelog, it appears that there was a similar problem between 2.4.23-1 and 2.4.23-4. The switch to libdb4.8 was made in 2.4.23-1, but the change to slapd.scripts-common made at that time (SVN revision 1275) used lt-nl 2.4.21 as the conversion cutoff, so the export/import cycle was missed for systems upgrading from 2.4.21-1. This was corrected in 2.4.23-4 (SVN 1307) after being reported in debbugs #593550. I see that the correction does use 2.4.23-4 as the cutoff version number, so I think that in Debian there would be errors attempting to upgrade from a pre-2.4.23 database to one of the earlier 2.4.23 packages (but without doing any manual fixes) and then up to the -4 version. But it also looks like 2.4.23-4 was the first of the 2.4.23 versions to make it into Testing, so presumably there weren't too many people affected by that gap. In Ubuntu we have the situation that the gap includes the version released in Maverick, so it seems likely to affect more people Nathan -- upgrade process does not upgrade underlying BDB format from 4.7 to 4.8 (so slapd aborts with Program version 4.8 doesn't match environment version 4.7 error message) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/658227 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

For users that have already upgraded to maverick the workaround outlined in the bug description should be followed. Again, I don't have a way to actually test this, but I believe that putting the 0ubuntu3.1 onto the comparison means that in the case described in comment 17, the upgrade script will attempt to do the export/import but will not be able to do so (because the existing slapcat will not be compatible with the existing db files), and the package installation will abort. If, on the other hand, the user had done the manual repair steps already, the export/import will succeed -- but in that situation the db files have already been converted, so the export/import cycle would not actually be needed If I'm correct, then it's probably better to leave the comparison as lt-nl 2.4.23 (or perhaps lt-nl 2.4.23-0ubuntu1). That should guarantee that the export is being run using a pre-2.4.23 version of slapcat, and avoid touching the database on systems coming up from post-2.4.23 versions (since the script can't do anything for those systems anyway). I'm marking this as confirmed based on the second report. I'm not sure if this is necissarily a bug in samba, or if the bug would be in the kernel. [Bug 660747] Re: Maverick corrupts files on samba network shares
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: my installtion of Ubuntu 10.10 64Bit Desktop Edition has one severe Problem when using Samba Shares: When I edit files (i.e. using gedit) that lie on the Network share and I happen to remove some content (making the file smaller in size) and then save the file, The file get's corrupted - the size remains the same as it was before, and when I reopen the file has trailing garbage. [Bug 656738] Re: apache2 restart fails, but exit code is zero
I'm unable to reproduce this on 10.10. I tried with something like: while : ; do apt-get install --reinstall apache2-mpm-worker; done I see messages to the console like: Preparing to replace apache2-mpm-worker 2.2.16-1ubuntu3 (using .../apache2-mpm-worker_2.2.16-1ubuntu3_i386.deb) ... * Stopping web server apache2 ... waiting...done. the 'waiting' and the lack of failure would indicate to me that this is fix-released. [Bug 656738] Re: apache2 restart fails, but exit code is zero
It's a race. The OP mentioned it's a busy server: However this fails, because under load it takes time for apache to stop. -- apache2 restart fails, but exit code is zero https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/656738 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 656738] Re: apache2 restart fails, but exit code is zero
But the OP says that : it is started too soon you see an error message about port 80 being busy (still used by not sopped apache) and apache then fails to start. I assumed the waiting ...done message was indicating that it actually waited for apache to stop, and thus the start wouldn't hit the taken port 80.
