[Bug 675185] [NEW] [Hardy SRU] dash bug causes mysqld_safe to spin at 100% CPU

2010-11-14 Thread Jakob Unterwurzacher
Public bug reported:

Symptoms are: After mysql server upgrades + restarts the old mysqld_safe keeps
running and consumes 100% cpu, strace shows:
wait4(4294967295, 0x7fffb3b3d59c, 0, NULL) = -1 ECHILD (No child ...
wait4(4294967295, 0x7fffb3b3d59c, 0, NULL) = -1 ECHILD (No child ...
wait4(4294967295, 0x7fffb3b3d59c, 0, NULL) = -1 ECHILD (No child ...
For more info see the dupes, particularily bug 105457. Does not happen always,
for reliable test case see below.

This is a bug (race condition) in dash, fixed by
http://git.kernel.org/?p=utils/dash/dash.git;a=commit;h=3800d4934391b144fd261a7957aea72ced7d47ea
.

TEST CASE: Script in the commit message (link above). Allows to
reproduce this always, even on Karmic still.

SRU JUSTIFICATION: Obviously safe patch.

PATCH: Attached, run mysqld_safe in bash instead of dash.

REGRESSION POTENTIAL: Minimal. 1) Bash is a superset of dash. 2) Before
dash became the default sh, bash was used, we just revert that change.

NOTES: mysqld_safe will be replaced by an upstart job. But Hardy has
support for 3 more years, justifiying a fix.

[Bug 675391] [NEW] nssov overlay is missing

2010-11-14 Thread ben thielsen
Public bug reported:

it appears that in 2.4.23-0ubuntu3, the nssov overlay is absent from the
package. this was not the case in the previous version
(2.4.21-0ubuntu5.2). the following files are missing:

/usr/lib/ldap/nssov.la
/usr/lib/ldap/nssov.so
/usr/lib/ldap/nssov.so.0
/usr/lib/ldap/nssov.so.0.0.0

this severely breaks installations that were using the overlay, as it is
referenced from the config, but cannot be loaded, resulting in dpkg
failing and completely breaking the upgrade process:

[Bug 675398] [NEW] package samba-common 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 10

2010-11-14 Thread th1bill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I recently did a configuration change and upgraded to a 320gig HDD

[Bug 673066] Re: Upgrade to 0.7.5

2010-11-14 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for proposing this. Could you please fix/explain the following
issues:
debian/changelog:
* There are multiple versions in the changelog that have not been uploaded to
the archive, please collapse into one entry.
* The version scheme is incorrect, we use UPSTREAM-0ubuntuX when we update
ahead of Debian.
debian/rules:
* I see you're removing targets from the debian/rules file, are we permanently
forking from Debian?
debian/control:
* I see you also modified the formatting of Build-Depends in debian/control,
this shouldn't be done unless we are forking from Debian to keep the diff to a
minimum.
* libgirepository1.0-dev should be noted as a build dependency instead of just
a dependency

By the way, could you please propose a bzr merge from and into
lp:ubuntu/librest or provide a debdiff?

[Bug 571704] Re: icewm in gnome environment does not work

2010-11-14 Thread Andreas Leitgeb
I still had to also add icewm-gnome as a startup-application.

Also: the command to overwrite icewm-gnome in the original report needs
some minor correction:

cat /usr/bin/icewm-gnome 'EOF'
#!/bin/sh
which icewm-experimental /dev/null exec icewm-experimental
--client-id=$DESKTOP_AUTOSTART_ID
which icewm /dev/null exec icewm --client-id=$DESKTOP_AUTOSTART_ID
which icewm-lite /dev/null exec icewm-lite --client-id=$DESKTOP_AUTOSTART_ID
EOF

(the EOF in first line is 'quoted', and the variable name passed to
icewm-experimental is corrected.)

[Bug 675116] [NEW] [maverick-proposed] libqt4-network 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4 not installable: unmet dependencies

2010-11-14 Thread Stenten
Public bug reported:

I have the -proposed PPA enabled for Maverick.

Trying to install libqt4-network fails:

$ sudo apt-get install libqt4-network
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libqt4-network : Depends: libqt4-dbus (= 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4) but
4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4.1 is to be installed
  Depends: libqtcore4 (= 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4) but
4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4.1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
$

This is because libqt4-network 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4 (the current version)
depends on libqt4-dbus (= 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4) and libqtcore4 (=
4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4), but the current version of those two packages with
-proposed enabled is 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4.1

The fix is as simple as changing the depends to (= 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu4), I
believe.

[Bug 675115] [NEW] left-handed mouse on both client and server desktops makes it right-handed in the viewer

2010-11-14 Thread Dmitry Yamaykin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vino

Summary pretty much explains it. I use left-handed mouse. Desktop
computer A with vino-server has left-handed mouse and desktop computer B
with vncview-client has left-handed mouse. It seems that vino handles
mouse buttons without reading into left/right-handed mouse option.

I didn't have this problem with the same vncview-client and Windows Real

[Bug 639734] Re: Pressing buttons on quanta hardware is very hard and imprecise

2010-11-14 Thread Felix Joussein
Sure, education comes first!
No, the mouse up issue is not solved yet, but I was on a fair one month ago and
I realized, that touchscreens running under windows behave exactly the same
way: when you touch the screen, it emulates a single-click, which means
touching is same as left-click and moving... annoying.
The far better solution would be to distinguish between soft approach =
mouse-move and hard-touch = click that way you could move around the cursor
without marking any icons or text etc...
I also have the impression, that the sensitivity has gotten better... when
using the clip controls or to snap the window edges for resize is better...
Regarding my improval for the UI: I bought an android phone, and there within
the phonebook there is on the right screen side 0-9A-Z from top to the bottom.
When you move above them, the current letter is displayed in a huge manner in
the middle of the screen so you always know, what's underneath your fingers
I think, that's worth implementing in ubuntu...

Regarding the X-start problem: No, I have not yet tried to reconfigure
the server... it simply append after the upgrade. I will let you know,
as soon as I have tried it!

[Bug 532506] Re: Can't set ethernet MTU from GUI

2010-11-14 Thread Gary M
From looking at gnome-nettool 2.31.6 in the the maverick release, the
expectation of being able to edit the MTU information in place appears
to me to be unreasonable or overly optimistic.

The Configure button next to the chosen interface correctly brings up
the Network Manager configuration tool for me, where the MTU and other
settings can be changed. In contrast, gnome-nettool is designed only
for viewing network-related information. So I don't see this as an
issue of missing functionality.

No other settings can be configured in the interface information area,
and the information text gives no visual indication of being editable,
so I don't see this as an interface design / UX issue either.

[Bug 649917] Re: GLIb-WARNING **: getpwid_r(): failed due to unknown user id

2010-11-14 Thread Sergei Vorobyov
I'd be damned, but this does not explain anything

Many posters here IMO have a different booting problem. The error
message however relates to a specific bug with plymouth which is fixed
 here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/649917.
The fix code is now available in repository for maverick-proposed (and I
guess lucid-proposed). However this only removes this error message,
which is not itself important. If you are experiencing crashes it is
almost certainly caused by something else.

I do not care about no error messages, I simply cannot bloody log in.

[Bug 675120] [NEW] offlineimap: fails to check the remote server's ssl certificate is valid

2010-11-14 Thread dave b.
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: offlineimap

Package: offlineimap
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

offlineimap performs absolutely no ssl certificate checking. So users could/can
be the victim of a man in the middle attack.
In debian the following bugs exist:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=536421 (re certificate
expiration)
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=153240 (re ssl fingerprint
checking)

This could be considered a bug in imaplib (http://bugs.python.org/issue10274).
A partial 'fix' is the following(this 'fix' isn't complete and would break
connections to server's using self-signed certificates):

WARNING XXX: I haven't tested this 'fix' at all and so it is most likely
wrong.

Although, this isn't complete because it will break self-signed certificate
using server's and http://bugs.python.org/issue1589 means that it won't provide
full protection etc.
Really, what is required is that by default the certificate is checked and
perhaps an option is added to bypass the check.

This isn't a new discovery, see [1], but the package provides no warning
about this fact. I added a warning to
https://github.com/jgoerzen/offlineimap/wiki/ perhaps ubuntu can add a
warning (in the package description) until this is fixed.

  Binary package hint: offlineimap

  Package: offlineimap
  Severity: grave
  Tags: security
  Justification: user security hole

offlineimap performs absolutely no ssl certificate checking. So users
could/can be the victim of a man in the middle attack.
In debian the following bugs exist:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=536421 (re certificate
expiration)
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=153240 (re ssl fingerprint
checking)

This could be considered a bug in imaplib (http://bugs.python.org/issue10274).
A partial 'fix' is the following(this 'fix' isn't complete and would break
connections to server's using self-signed certificates):

-
- WARNING XXX: I haven't tested this 'fix' at all and so it is most likely
wrong.

[Bug 674837] Re: mythtv 0.24 frontend does not find videos in the media library

2010-11-14 Thread ullix
Well, you are right. As a long time user of mythtv, I think the setup is
becoming more and more confusing, and naming of things are not lending
themselves for some intuitive approach.

With mythvideo I now learned than I had to press M and select a scan.
Than I had my videos.

Makes me wonder: why does a backend a scan at its start and finds all
the videos automatically, and stores them automatically, and when I use
mythvideo, I still need to tell it manually to do the same thing that
had already been done?
