there isn't a clear step-by-step set of repro instructions (I couldn't
create one because I was using my own x509 infrastructure and I've never
used easy_rsa in my life) but basically, if you're using x509
certificates (ie the same kind you could install in your web browser,
for example), and it picks up the name of your client (ie ccd works),
then the bug is fixed.  The bug _ONLY_ affected x509 certificates; other
ways openvpn had of identifying clients were never affected.

Analysis:
In the case of an early install, the logic to determine USER in 
/etc/etckeeper/commit.d/50vcs-commit fails to yield a valid USER, so EMAIL is 
not set when bzr commit is called (no name being stored in bzr whoami, this 
fails)

Solution would be to do something like:

ORIG_USER=$USER
USER=
...
  if [ -n $USER ]; then
  export EMAIL=$USER $u...@$hostname
  else
  bzr whoami || export EMAIL=$ORIG_USER $orig_u...@$hostname
  fi

This avoids setting bzr whoami artificially at install-time, still
prefers stored creds if any are present, but defaulting to something
valid rather than failing in the corner case of this bug.

Reducing priority since this doesn't affect post-install installations
of etckeeper. i'll fix this if nobody beats me to it.

I suspect this is a problem that is fixed  in clamav 0.96.4.  I've just 
uploaded that to maverick-backports.  It will take a few hours before it's

Experienced the same problem with missing testparm on Maverick with
samba-common-bin 2:3.5.4~dfsg-1ubuntu8. Quickly fixed it with:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure samba-common-bin

which reinstalled alternative links for testparm and family.

As far as I can tell, there was a rc7~1ubuntu3.3 version which was buggy
so 3.4 was put in -proposed I guess with the fix. That fix was later
taken out in rc7~1ubuntu3.5 in favor of something else.

I'm running rc7~1ubuntu3.5 for a year now on my Hardy, with x509
certificates and ccd and I did not have any problems with it.

Hi Daniel, this looks legitimate (though I'd have liked for the status
to stay New so that we could evaluate the Triaged status with our usual
process).

I took a stab at cherry picking the commit that fixed the bug upstream,
but it seems there have been a number of other commits to the same code
that make cherry picking that particular one impossible, or at the very
least, very difficult.

I think the plan of action should probably be to have this fix arrive
via PHP 5.3.4, and then backport the entire FPM sapi from 5.3.4 at that
time as an SRU. Otherwise we're trying to hit a fast moving target that
will only exist in Ubuntu.

I'm troubleshooting stability issues with a Torrus installation on
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. The BerkeleyDB database is crashing after few days of
work.

By studying the usage patterns and by upgrading individual packages, I
think the problem lies  in RRDtool 1.3.8. At the moment I upgraded the
package to the one from Maverick (1.4.3), and the service runs stable
since one day.

Also one of the users reports that 1.3.9 runs fine:

This is really extremely annoying. I cannot use Ubuntu for anything as long as 
it cannot access sevaral Win7 shares.
As I have this problem now already for about 5 days I started to dust my 
Windows installation and reaktivate my MS Office license. Seems like you should 
never use Ubuntu for any productive desktop environment :-( pritty sad 
especially when you look how long this bug is already known but no one seems to 
care about publishing any updates for Ubuntu.

Binary package hint: cloud-init

In testing bug 671103, I realised that the 'config-grub' code that was
added is not actually invoked on boot.  As a result, the changes will
not seed grub2 correctly.

What should happen on first boot is that 'h_config_grub' in
'CloudConfig.py' should run and 'grub-pc/install_devices' and 'grub-
pc/install_devices_empty' should get seeded.

Unfortunately, the fix added doesn't get that code invoked, and as a
result, these values are not seeded.

What we see is:
$ debconf-get-selections  2/dev/null | grep grub-pc/install
grub-pc grub-pc/install_devices_failed  boolean false
grub-pc grub-pc/install_devices multiselect
grub-pc grub-pc/install_devices_disks_changed   multiselect

dpkg log file suggests that clamav-milter was unexpectedly running during
the update.  Can you try:

Well, according to ubuntu-bug -p lsb-base, it filed it on lsb because
lsb is the /source/ package. And why did you mark all the other packages
I had associated it to as invalid? They are /ALL/ effected by this exact
same thing, which is how I found it in the first place.

Okay, as pointed out in an earlier comment, the self-signed certificate
bit is a red-herring.

The failure on maverick looks like it's somehow related to how openssl
is attempting to negotiate RFC4507bis session tickets, as running
openssl s_client with -no_ticket also works; e.g.:  openssl s_client

Repeatable. Triggered by high disk use. (when I run an rsync backup from
remote host.) Guest is also crashing during guest fdisk checks at
bootup. In this case, guest thread on server is not showing high cpu

I can confirm the segfault with the same Fedora 1 install. It doesn't
even get to 50%, it segfaults way earlier. In fact I tried this:

I've managed to reproduce the crash 3 consecutive times, like this:

- installed dnsmasq on the host (ubuntu 10.04 64bit), and started it
like this:

/usr/sbin/dnsmasq -d -x /var/run/dnsmasq/dnsmasq.pid -udnsmasq -7
/etc/dnsmasq.d,.dpkg-dist,.dpkg-old,.dpkg-new --dhcp-
option=3,172.16.21.253 --dhcp-script=/tmp/myscript.sh

- myscript.sh contains the following:

#!/bin/bash

sleep 10
echo $@
exit 0

- ran 4 ubuntu guests in KVM
- logged in on every guest, and ran the following command from console:

while [ true ]; do dhclient3 eth0 ; done (this basically renews the
lease on the guests all the time, generating some load for dnsmasq)

After ~10 minutes dnsmasq crashed with *** glibc detected ***
/usr/sbin/dnsmasq: double free or corruption (fasttop):
0x006a1040 *** (this happened 3 times out of 3 runs).

After installing the package from -proposed, I tried once more, same
setup but it did not crash. It's been running like this for 30 minutes.

I'll let it run for a couple of hours to see if anything happens.

I've unassigned myself from the SSL portion of this, as I am not really
the best person to address the issue fully.

again in 0.9.8n. Maybe it was removed from f or g??

Anyway, the answer to this question suggests that it may be that the
server is actually in err here, which maybe OpenSSL should handle more

I don’t feel it is unreasonable to expect that the default OS settings
won’t cause the disk to fill up (and, in doing so, cause other stuff to
crash) when the default connection limit is reached. In our case,
someone started hotlinking to a resource which caused an abnormally high
number of connections; normally, this server is very low-load and
doesn’t see more than 10 concurrent connections at any given time.

What I am hearing from you is that it’s dangerous and unwise to assume
that Ubuntu can provide sane settings out of the box, and it was foolish
of me to not plan to receive 100 times the normal amount of traffic.
While you are entitled to this opinion, it is not a position that I
understand or agree with. If that’s not what you intended, I apologise
for misunderstanding, and hope you can clarify.

Well, it's not that surprising that importing a missing key manually
will fix warning messages about the missing key. :-)

Does this mean, ubuntu-extras-keyring will ship the singing key soon?

I dont know the procedures and details of Ubuntu extras, but every
archive/package signing key used in that repository should be shipped
via the keyring package _before_ it is being used for signatures, aint
it?

The textures program runs without any troubles, 
I have:
- all desktop effects enabled
- ubuntu 10.10
- Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series


I don't experience the 'ghosts' and other troubles when using waveforms in 
mixxx; the only problem is it craches X if waveforms were enabled on startup. 
If I anable waveforms when mixxx is already running it works fine.

@doc81: On my system (Kubuntu 10.10) there was no 
gtk-fallback-icon-theme-line.
After adding 'gtk-fallback-icon-theme=oxygen' as first line to 
'/usr/share/themes/QtCurve/gtk-2.0/gtkrc', inkscape works again!  :-)
