[Bug 104525] Re: default ntp.conf should use pool.ntp.org servers

2011-01-17 Thread Xavier Robin
I got this answer today:

 Sorry about the late response. I really wanted someone from the
ubuntu project to set it up -- but I guess that's not forthcoming, so I
approved the zone anyway and we'll see what happens.

And in another email:

 Your vendor pool zone ubuntu has been setup. The
 hostnames are below. They will be active within a few hours.
0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org
1.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org
2.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org
3.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org

 Please subscribe to the (announce-only, very low traffic)
 ntppool-vendors list at Google Groups. We recommend everyone in your
 organization involved with this is subscribed there.
http://groups.google.com/group/ntppool-vendors

 If you are a commercial organization/product/company consider
 contributing back to the pool so we can keep the service sustainable
 even with the commercial usage:
 http://www.pool.ntp.org/vendors/contribute.html

 If you do not, you seriously diminish the chances that we can continue
 to offer this service to you.

 Kind regards,

 Ask Bjoern Hansen

So we just have to change that in ntp.conf. I guess it could greatly simplify
the GUI, too...

I think it could be a good idea to put a note in the conf file to
recommend people to join the pool. Maybe ntp.ubuntu.com could be
included?

Finally, the developer of the pool mentioned wishing a contact from the
Ubuntu project to be involved… who should be contacted?

See if you can contact someone from the Canonical server team. Personally I'd
also try to contact the ntp maintainer via IRC too.

This is weird, can't reproduce it myself anymore either...
I went back to an older version of qemu-kvm en re-installed the current one

I do run into quite some other problems now, however

They are related to this:

(But that is an entire other story, that should be in it's own bug-

[Bug 302880] Re: Add serial console in xml configuration file generated by vm-builder

2011-01-17 Thread Sergey Svishchev
This still won't give full serial console access (BIOS and GRUB won't be

In Karmic, replacing VGA BIOS with Google's SGABIOS works, and GRUB can
be configured in --execscript. In Lucid, these workarounds don't work
anymore (the latter is bug 703959).

[Bug 703977] [NEW] bat from bacula-console-qt. not showing menu

2011-01-17 Thread kenjo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula

On a fresh ubuntu 10.10 (64bit)server install with basically only bacula added
I do not get any menu when selecting
file, settings or help. Running this remote over a ssh -X connection

I also suspect I do not get popup menus and probably other stuff. Since
I have not run the program before I do not know exactly what to expect
but the problem is behaving very similar to what skype does on my ubuntu
10.10 laptop where I also do not get any menu or popup. I had to install
skype with the static libraries to make that app work.

So it's probably some generic QT problem showing it's ugly head.

[Bug 246613] Re: ocfs2 startup link prior to open-iscsi

2011-01-17 Thread Chuck Short
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 623609] Re: grub-pc needs some help in uec instances

2011-01-17 Thread Scott Moser
The cloud-init portion of this was fixed in lucid with cloud-init at version
0.5.10-0ubuntu1.5.
The grub-pc portion still exists, but is worked around in the UEC image build
process at
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-on-ec2/vmbuilder/automated-ec2-builds/revision/208
 .

That commit shows 2 options for working around it
a.) 'rm /boot/grub/video.lst' in the instance
   This is the solution that I ended up going with.
b.) sed -i 's,^#GRUB_TERMINAL=console,GRUB_TERMINAL=console,' /etc/default/grub
.
  This solution ends up prompting the user on grub-pc reinstall or upgrade.

[Bug 700288] Re: amavisd-release not working with quarantine_subdir_levels

2011-01-17 Thread Cyril Jaquier
1. Yes, this is reproducible

2.

* Install amavisd-new using your favorite package manager
* Be sure to have $quarantine_subdir_levels = 1 (or higher). This should be the
default
* Wait for an e-mail to land into the quarantine
* Try to release it with amavisd-release

= File not found because of wrong path. The subdirectory from directory
hashing is missing.

On a default installation, you can find e-mail in the quarantine using:

# find /var/lib/amavis/virusmails/ -type f

I looked a bit at amavisd-release but my Perl knowledge is not that
good. Either amavisd is not returning the right path or amavisd-release
should handle $quarantine_subdir_levels.

Here is what I get when I increase log_level in amavisd-release:

# amavisd-release badh-Vzji0yHNymWh
 request=release
 quar_type=F
 mail_id=Vzji0yHNymWh
 mail_file=badh-Vzji0yHNymWh
waiting for response
 setreply=450 4.5.0 Failure: File /var/lib/amavis/virusmails/badh-Vzji0yHNymWh

[Bug 700288] Re: amavisd-release not working with quarantine_subdir_levels

2011-01-17 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Sorry... I think this is not really an issue...

I tried to add the subfolder and it found the file:

# amavisd-release I/badh-IGjIOydvUwg0
250 2.5.0 No recipients, nothing to do

Not really intuitive but this seems to be the way amavisd-new works.
Then I googled for the no recipients problem and it seems that in this
case I need to set the recipient explicitly as explained here:

http://www.mail-archive.com/amavis-
u...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg13081.html

# amavisd-release I/badh-IGjIOydvUwg0 m...@mydomain.net
250 2.0.0 Ok, id=rel-IGjIOydvUwg0, from MTA([127.0.0.1]:10025): 250 2.0.0 Ok:
queued as 2B1F721619

Feel free to close this bug and sorry again. By the way, a man page for
amavisd-release with such information could be helpful.

[Bug 246613] Re: ocfs2 startup link prior to open-iscsi

2011-01-17 Thread Jamin W. Collins
I have no idea why you claim the 3 listed items are not provided, they
in fact have been.

1. install ofcs2-tools (apt-get install ofcs2-tools)
2. it should work, including after reboots
3. reread first post, it doesn't work after reboots due to startup order

[Bug 701765] Re: open_basedir breaks by restricting paths to files that should be allowed; Unknown: Failed opening required '/usr/share/phpmyadmin/index.php' (include_path='.') in Unknown on line 0

2011-01-17 Thread Andrea Azzini
Sorry for bumping so impolitely, but this is grave and still not
completely solved, at least in Hardy.

@James
Thanks for pointing this out. I am kind of surprised that it works without the
/etc/ path but i am fixing it now anyway.

@others
Can anyone at least confirm that this is *not* an issue and it is limited to my
server? That would surprise me even more, but apparently no one else noticed...
Unfortunately I don't know the code well enough to attempt to submit a patch
myself.

[Bug 702404] Re: cannot change scores in /etc/spamassassin/local.cf/local

2011-01-17 Thread Antonio J. de Oliveira
Hi

1. Yes, I have an installed system where the behavior is as described and does
not change.
2. Just install the system.

This is what I did:

***
Install Spamassassin
apt-get install spamassassin spamc
Configure Spamassassin user and group
We want it to run as non-root, so add a spamd user and group:

# groupadd spamd
# useradd -g spamd -s /bin/false -d /var/log/spamassassin spamd
# mkdir /var/log/spamassassin
# chown spamd:spamd /var/log/spamassassin
(This sets the spamd user's home directory as /var/log/spamassassin.)

Configure Spamassassin
Edit /etc/default/spamassassin so these options are set:

ENABLED=1

SAHOME=/var/log/spamassassin/

OPTIONS=--create-prefs --max-children 2 --username spamd \
-H ${SAHOME} -s ${SAHOME}spamd.log
--max-children spawns the specified number of child processes (you might need
more on a busy server), --username specifies the username spamd runs under, -H
sets the home directory, -s sets the log file.

(I left the rest of the file alone, and didn't touch
/etc/spamassassin/local.cf.)

Start the Spamassassin daemon (spamd)
/etc/init.d/spamassassin start
(By default, spamassassin gets added to the startup scripts by Ubuntu, so it
will start/stop with your system.)

Configure Postfix to use Spamassassin as a filter
This makes Postfix pipe email to Spamassassin once it's been received. Edit
/etc/postfix/master.cf and add this line as the first line of the file:

smtp  inet  n   -   -   -   -   smtpd
-o content_filter=spamassassin
Add this to the end of the same file:

spamassassin unix - n   n   -   -   pipe
user=spamd argv=/usr/bin/spamc -f -e
/usr/sbin/sendmail -oi -f ${sender} ${recipient}

install libmail-spf-query-perl librazor2-perl pyzor dcc (the latter is extern
to the repos)
verify if spf is there
perl -e 'require Mail::SPF::Query'
razor-admin -create
razor-admin -discover
razor-admin -register
pyzor discover

attached is my local.cf

I tried to create an user_prefs as attached on the .spamassassin
directory under /var/log/spamassassin. As you see, my local.cf has
allow_use_rules 1.

All file permissions were checked and are:

-rwxrwxr-x 1 root root 3247 2011-01-13 15:58 local.cf
-rwxrwxr-x 1 spamd spamd  1484 2011-01-17 17:57 user_prefs

 I am ready to conduct further tests you find adequate

Best regards

Antonio

This all worked fine. Prior to this bug being fixed, the filesystem

I've just uploaded the euca2ools packages that fix this also. The 2

[Bug 704220] [NEW] add delegate and connections options to default /etc/pptpd.conf

2011-01-17 Thread Dicr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pptpd

There are new important options of pptpd: delegate and connections.
They are described in examples/pptpd.conf, but no in /etc/pptpd.conf
Please, add this options from examples/pptpd.conf to /etc/pptpd.conf:

# TAG: delegate
# Delegates the allocation of client IP addresses to pppd.
#
# Without this option, which is the default, pptpd manages the list of
# IP addresses for clients and passes the next free address to pppd.
# With this option, pptpd does not pass an address, and so pppd may use
# radius or chap-secrets to allocate an address.
#
#delegate

# TAG: connections
# Limits the number of client connections that may be accepted.
#
# If pptpd is allocating IP addresses (e.g. delegate is not
# used) then the number of connections is also limited by the
# remoteip option. The default is 100.
#connections 100

[Bug 700945] Re: puppet 0.25.5 backport required

2011-01-17 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Anand, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us
make Ubuntu better.

Rather than bring in all of the patches from 0.25.5, its generally
preferable to cherry pick patches for issues that are worthy of doing a
Stable Release Update (SRU).

Annoying error messages may not be worth the trouble for an SRU, even
though I do see that the patch is minimal and would not introduce a high
potential for regression.

Anyway, I was just able to confirm it using the test case from puppet
issue #3101. So marking Triaged, importance Low. Tagging 'bitesize' as
the only step necessary is to add this patch to the package and follow
the SRU process.

Nominating for Lucid as well.

[Bug 704283] [NEW] insufficient details for a newer build available message

2011-01-17 Thread Joe Edmonds
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cloud-init

When I log in to my EC2 instance, I see the message:

  A newer build of the Ubuntu lucid server image is available.
  It is named 'release' and has build serial '20101228'.

I'm a reasonably-experienced ubuntu sysadmin (with little cloud
experience) and I don't know if or how I should obtain the newer build.
FWIW, places I looked to try to learn include:

* https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CloudInit
*
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22A+newer+build+of+the+Ubuntu+lucid+server+image+is+available.+It+is+named+'release'+and+has+build+serial%22

It would be nice if the message explained the status and my options a
little more. If you don't want to lengthen an already-long MOTD,
perhaps just a link to a wiki page or something that contains more
details.

[Bug 703800] Re: restart command fails to restart main process when pre-stop stanza exists

2011-01-17 Thread Clint Byrum
On further investigation, this does *not* affect jobs that block the
'stopping' event. So I believe this may be related more to the way
job_process_run treates pre-stop. According to comments in
init/job_process.c:

/* We don't change the state if we're in post-start and there's
 * a post-start process running, or if we're in pre-stop and
 * there's a pre-stop process running; we wait for those to
 * finish instead.
 */
if ((job-state == JOB_POST_START)
 job-class-process[PROCESS_POST_START]
 (job-pid[PROCESS_POST_START]  0)) {
state = FALSE;
} else if ((job-state == JOB_PRE_STOP)
 job-class-process[PROCESS_PRE_STOP]
 (job-pid[PROCESS_PRE_STOP]  0)) {
state = FALSE;
}

Later on, if (!state) calls job_change_goal(job, JOB_RESPAWN) ..

Digging into job_next_state a bit, I found that a goal of JOB_RESPAWN
causes job_next_state to change the goal only if state is JOB_POST_START
or JOB_PRE_STOP. JOB_POST_START changes the goal to JOB_START, which
makes sense. But JOB_PRE_STOP changes the goal to JOB_START as well!
This doesn't make much sense to me, and I thought the obvious fix would
be to change it to be JOB_STOP, however this caused test_job to fail
here:

...with post-start job and a goal of respawn
BAD: wrong value for job-goal, expected 1 got 0
at tests/test_job.c:4129 (test_next_state).
/bin/bash: line 5: 29784 Aborted ${dir}$tst
FAIL: test_job

This was confusing until I realized that the test code is wrong:

/* Check that the next state if we're respawning after a pre-stop
 * job is stopping with the goal changed.
 */
TEST_FEATURE (with post-start job and a goal of respawn);
job-goal = JOB_RESPAWN;
job-state = JOB_PRE_STOP;

TEST_EQ (job_next_state (job), JOB_STOPPING);
TEST_EQ (job-goal, JOB_START);

That should read 'with pre-stop job and a goal of respawn'.

So, this brings to the edge case that I think is causing this problem,
and my perceived fix.

If you want a running job to be restarted, it should move from wherever
it was, through stopping-pre-stop-killed-post-stop-starting- ...

However, this doesn't happen. Instead the goal is changed to STOP, but
job_change_goal() does not wait for that to happen, which its docblock
would suggest.

Instead, it returns with the state set to JOB_PRE_STOP ..

This is my proposed fix.. though I'm not entirely confident this is the
right way to handle it, and I haven't had a chance to test this yet.

[Bug 703796] Re: aoe-stat only sees vblade minor numbers 0-15

2011-01-17 Thread Ivan Cauchi
update to the below.

I have a separate virtualised instance of OpenFiler v2.3. On the
OpenFiler, vblades from the Ubuntu servers with minor numbers 0 up till
254 can be viewed by aoe-stat (but not 255). This is completely
different behaviour from the aoe-stat behaviour experienced on the
Ubuntu installation.

The OpenFiler 2.3 is based on RedHat with kernel version
2.6.26.8-1.0.11.smp.pae.gcc3.4.x86.i686.  I couldn't determine the
package version of aoetools, however /sys/module/aoe/parameters/version
contains the number '64'.

On my Ubuntu 10.4.1LTS machines, the file /sys/module/aoe/version
contains the number '47'.

[Bug 641246] Re: icons of places are slow to load on first run

2011-01-17 Thread bloodorangeonline
This bug is affecting me on Maverick. On first access, the icons in
Files Folders and Applications do not appear. I have to access them
at least twice before I eventually see the icons. I tried
'CLUTTER_VBLANK=none mutter --replace', but that simply removed my
window decorations causing me to reboot. I then tried 'sudo echo
CLUTTER_VBLANK=none  /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10unity-quirks', but this
had no affect so I reverted. As for the test program, I don't know what
to do with that.

[Bug 104525] Re: default ntp.conf should use pool.ntp.org servers

2011-01-17 Thread Xavier Robin
I got this answer today:

 Sorry about the late response. I really wanted someone from the
ubuntu project to set it up -- but I guess that's not forthcoming, so I
approved the zone anyway and we'll see what happens.

And in another email:

 Your vendor pool zone ubuntu has been setup. The
 hostnames are below. They will be active within a few hours.
0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org
1.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org
2.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org
3.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org

 Please subscribe to the (announce-only, very low traffic)
 ntppool-vendors list at Google Groups. We recommend everyone in your
 organization involved with this is subscribed there.
http://groups.google.com/group/ntppool-vendors

 If you are a commercial organization/product/company consider
 contributing back to the pool so we can keep the service sustainable
 even with the commercial usage:
 http://www.pool.ntp.org/vendors/contribute.html

 If you do not, you seriously diminish the chances that we can continue
 to offer this service to you.

 Kind regards,

 Ask Bjoern Hansen

So we just have to change that in ntp.conf. I guess it could greatly simplify
the GUI, too...

I think it could be a good idea to put a note in the conf file to
recommend people to join the pool. Maybe ntp.ubuntu.com could be
included?

Finally, the developer of the pool mentioned wishing a contact from the
Ubuntu project to be involved… who should be contacted?
