[Bug 574733] Re: serve Xorg performance penalty due to [u]vesafb creating wrong PAT entries

2011-01-24 Thread Thomas Schlichter
@Andi -- I already did the first step with slightly improved patches:

  http://marc.info/?m=129086507505163

Unfortunately the ioremap_{wc,cache,nocache} functions seem not to be
supported by all the architectures where [u]vesafb build. Paul Mundt
recognized it, and now I'm looking if I can establish these functions
for all architectures, or at least be sure to correctly use fall-back
functions.

As I'm quite busy now with my daily work, this may have to wait a bit...

[Bug 706988] [NEW] Major Bug in MySQL 5.1.49 up to 5.1.52

2011-01-24 Thread Christian Koller
Public bug reported:

There is a major bug in MySQL 5.1.49 up to 5.1.52 currently delivered
with Ubuntu 10.10

Example:

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `foo`;
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `foo` (
  `a` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
  `b` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
  KEY `foo_a` (`a`),
  KEY `foo_b` (`b`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8;

INSERT INTO `foo` (`a`, `b`) VALUES
(1, 1),
(1, 2),
(1, 2),
(1, 2),
(1, 3),
(2, 1);

SELECT a FROM foo where a=1 and b=2; results in 0 rows returned.
The only way to avoid this, would be to remove one of the keys, or make the
columns not null.

Such a faulty version should not be deployed.
It is fixed in 5.1.53 and up.

Tested on:
Ubuntu 10.10
5.1.49-1ubuntu8.1

Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

What is Hiren's boot cd?

I'm not sure what you mean with list of volume elements, but if you're
talking about the PulseAudio paths, that's too high in the stack, as the

[Bug 706828] Re: Connection refused for monitor socket on kvm restart

2011-01-24 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks, mixter.

It appears however that you attached the wrong file?

A few more questions:

1. Do you restart by using the Windows Start menu to restart?
2. After restarting and losing the connection, please do:

   virsh list
   virsh list --all
   ps -ef | grep kvm
   cat /var/log/libvirt/qemu/win7.log

and append all output here.

[Bug 158262] Re: Cannot run tpb as normal user

2011-01-24 Thread Anton M.
I use Maverick (amd64). Problem with /dev/nvram privileges was solved by
including user to 'nvram' group (created by this package) and creating
follofing udev rule:

KERNEL==nvram,GROUP=nvram,MODE=0660,OPTIONS=last_rule

I put it to /etc/udev/rules.d/05-tpb-nvram.rules. I think it must be in
package itself (not sure about exact file name).

Also, file /etc/devfs/conf.d/tpb is obsolete and could be removed from
package.

[Bug 706995] [NEW] Cobbler references init scripts in /etc/rc.d/init.d

2011-01-24 Thread Konrad Scherer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cobbler

The module sync_post_restart_services.py and action_check assume that init
scripts are located in /etc/rc.d/init.d. This is the normal layout on RedHat
systems and does not work Ubuntu/Debian systems.
Also currently the cobbler sync calls service restart, when a reload is
sufficient.

[Bug 644644] Re: Frequent PA crashes during playback - pa_stream_cork() failed: Connection terminated and pa_stream_writable_size(): Connection failed

2011-01-24 Thread e_james
EeePC 901, Ubuntu 10.10

I'm a newcomer to linux and there is much I don't understand but I do
have some computer skills and I have noticed that no-one has mentioned
audio sampling rate. When I discovered this problem and looked for a
solution I found that some video files will play properly and some
won't. So I did some experiments with the following results.

Any file where the audio is mp3 or aac or ac3 with a sampling rate of
22.05 kHz will play in Totem without problems.

Any file where the audio is mp3 or aac or ac3 with a sampling rate of 24
kHz will fail to play in Totem with the error messages described above.

Since 44.1 kHz or 22.05 kHz seems to be the accepted standard in North
America, I suspect that someone wrote a piece of code which, in effect,
assumes that the sampling rate can only be 44.1 kHz or 22.05 kHz. Many
years ago I made a similar mistake and trashed an operating system.

Unfortunately for me, the majority of my video files use mp3 at 24 kHz
because I have found that 22.05 kHz doesn't sync properly with the
video. I believe that it's something to do with the PAL TV standard in
Europe.

[Bug 116752] Re: NMI received for unknown reason a0 on CPU 0

2011-01-24 Thread papukaija
The status change means that intuitivenipple (TJ) isn't anymore working
on this bug,but this bug has enough info for a developer to work on this
bug; that's why it was changed to triaged and not confirmed from 'in
progress'.

[Bug 707001] [NEW] Help! Evolution started crashing on Reply/New Message/Forward

2011-01-24 Thread Safecycle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution 2.30.3 (on Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 with KDE) started crashing every
time I click on Reply, New Message or Forward button. Otherwise, it
works as usual. I can receive and read email, but cannot compose a
reply.

This problem started happening a couple of days ago. In case it's
related, the crashing started after the latest Ubuntu 10.10 sudo
(version 1.7.2p7-1ubuntu2.1) update was distributed and installed. I
tried reversing the sudo version to the Maverick-original version and
restarted, but that did not help.

I also tried forcing a previous version of Evolution in Synaptic Package
Manager. It lets me select the older Evolution version, but then fails
to complete the operation, just refreshes the screen without changing
the package version.

apt-cache policy evolution says:

evolution:
  Installed: 2.30.3-1ubuntu7.3
  Candidate: 2.30.3-1ubuntu7.3

[Bug 706999] [NEW] CVE-2010-3448

2011-01-24 Thread Tim Gardner
Public bug reported:

drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.34
on ThinkPad devices, when the X.Org X server is used, does not properly
restrict access to the video output control state, which allows local
users to cause a denial of service (system hang) via a (1) read or (2)
write operation.

[Bug 707000] [NEW] CVE-2010-3698

2011-01-24 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

The KVM implementation in the Linux kernel before 2.6.36 does not properly
reload the FS and GS segment registers, which allows host OS users to cause
a denial of service (host OS crash) via a KVM_RUN ioctl call in conjunction
with a modified Local Descriptor Table (LDT).

that it is not intended top be run by users, but that does not
invalidate my issue about it being undocumented. There are many reasonsd
everything should be documented, not least of which is troubleshooting!

[Bug 689072] Re: X Crashes randomly with certain applications

2011-01-24 Thread Gregor Müllegger
I have exactly the same issue. The crashes only occur while actively
using the computer. I usually have Amarok, Kopete, Firefox running when
this happens.

After the crash I see TTY1 but Amarok keeps playing until I stop/restart
KDM.

I already used the xorg-edgers ppa to see if this helps, but it doesn't.
I downgraded again and the issue is still occuring a few times each day.

I've attached the Xorg.0.log from after a crash. I use the official ATI
catalyst fglrx driver from AMD's webpage with two graphiccards and four
screens.

fglrx version 8.801
Amarok: 2.3.2
Kubuntu 10.10

I have following ppa's enabled, but no others:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu maverick main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu maverick main

[Bug 707010] [NEW] Sync bzr 2.3.0~beta5-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-01-24 Thread Jelmer Vernooij
Public bug reported:

Please sync bzr 2.3.0~beta5-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

  [ Vincent Ladeuil ]
  * New upstream release.
   + Fix https python-2.7 compatibility. Closes: #608085
+ Follow the Freedesktop XDG Base Directory Specification. LP: #195397
  * Drop unnecessary dependency on graphviz.

  [ Max Bowsher ]
  * Run testsuite for bundled plugins too.

[Bug 707007] [NEW] Monitor Preferences dialog buttons lacks conformity with rest of OS

2011-01-24 Thread nick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

System-wide, buttons in Ubuntu that appear in the lower right corner of
dialog boxes always appear in a specific order: Close Apply. That is,
Apply appears in the lower right corner. (Microsoft Windows always puts
Close in the lower right corner). These dialog buttons for the Monitor
Preferences appear reversed (i.e., Apply Close) and this arrangement
lacks conformity with all other dialog boxes within the Ubuntu OS. For
system-wide conformity, the Monitor Preferences dialog box should be
laid out the same as other dialog boxes.

  What is Hiren's boot cd?

See the first 2 hits, one for the info, and other for the dl.

Yes, I was hoping to avoid downloading an iso I'd never heard of.

My question about 32-bit and 64-bit maverick was in a guest, not on the
host. It will be helpful if you can reproduce this bug with a more
common iso.

[Bug 700619] Re: region subtag of language are not being set accordantly

Aha, now I understand better. That issue has been reported previously in
bug 666565, so I marked this document a duplicate of bug 666565.

In addition, we have a lot of place to set locale variants, it make
user feel frustrated, especially from GDM, too complicated. Why
don't we just put all those languages relevant variant into
 /etc/environment or /etc/default/locale for system-wide settings,
and into ~/.profile for users setting? then GDM/KDM/XDM/ just read
it from them, it will more easy and straightforwad not only for end
 users, but also for developers.

As a part of the solution to bug 553162, the use of the files
/var/cache/gdm/$USER/dmrc and ~/.dmrc were recently extended with a
couple of new fields for storing locales settings. While I agree that
it may presently appear unnecessarily complicated, it's the result of a
carefully considered compromise, so it won't likely be altered
short-term.

[Bug 576531] Re: netdiscovery: relocation error segfault

2011-01-24 Thread Nicola Masarone
Yesterday was trying to execute the Wolf Geldmacher's comment (#12), but for an
accident the solution was stopped in the middle, before the step that recovers
libs from the backup folder. The result was that the PC was not able to reboot
anymore, neither in normal boot nor in recovery mode. The only way to fix the
problem was to use a live CD, to mount the hard-disk containing the
malfunctioning Ubuntu and to move the libs using last commands from comment #12
:
cd /lib
mv backup/* .
After that the PC was able to reboot again !
