[Bug 708504] Re: [needs-packaging] PHP 5.3.5 is available.
Note that with such a large set of changes, it may be best to collaborate directly with the Debian php maintainers rather than us importing this version before them. There may already be work done in their git branches. debian php maintainer hat on Hi, php5 5.3.5 will be uploaded to Debian after squeeze is released. As usual we always appreciate any help with php5 packaging, but help with triaging and fixing bugs is more needed than just updating to new upstream versions. So, (and this applies to anybody out there) if you feel like spending some free brain cycles, please open http://bugs.debian.org/php5 and test bugs, find fixes, cherry-pick from upstream svn, etc. This will be much appreciated, since we are always in need of help. /debian php maintainer hat on -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/708504 Title: [needs-packaging] PHP 5.3.5 is available. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...
How to update nameserver in Network Manager and stop it from changing the /etc/resolv.conf after rebooting in Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.10 1. Open Terminal and type sudo su then press enter. 2. Type in gedit /etc/resolv.conf then press enter, you will then see your Network Managers nameserver usually 198.168.0.100, write down whatever the ip is then close terminal. 3. Right click Network Manager and select Edit Connections, left click Wired or Wireless, then left click Auto eth0 or eth1 or Auto whatever the name is for the wireless connection, left click Edit, then left click IPv4 Settings, tick box connect automatically, look at the Method box if it says Automatic (DHCP) left click the box and select Automatic (DHCP) addresses only, look at DNS servers and write in the box ***.***.***.***, ***.***.***.***, 192.168.0.100 or the ip you wrote down if it is diferent ( DO NOT TYPE THE *** TYPE IN THE IP NUMBERS OF THE NAMESERVERS YOU WANT TO USE), the commas are important as they are used to seperate the namservers addresses in the /etc/resolv.conf. Tick box Available to all users then left click apply and then type in your computer password when prompted and press apply. The first 2 nameservers are the nameservers you want to use and the 3rd is your DNS nameserver. Reboot and perform step 1 an 2 you will find the nameservers you typed in the Network Manager have not been changed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dhcp3 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90681 Title: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc... -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 387189] Re: /dev/null corrupted (/dev/null.1)
It seems to me a patch to /etc/logrotate.d/apache2 is the simplest solution. The attached diff tries to solve the issue and also be more readable, breaking the one complex line involving backticks into three shorter simpler lines, no backticks needed. There are a lot of cases to test this with, and I doubt I have yet tested all of them... with and without a full apache2 installation, with and without apache running, with and without making changes to the envvars file to put the PID file elsewhere... Anyway, here is a patch that looks sane to me. [Bug 709640] [NEW] ActivIdentity key not working in VMWare Workstation
Public bug reported: Hi, Here is my situation: I am running Ubuntu Maverick x86_64 on an laptop with Intel graphic driver. On Ubuntu I am using VMWare Workstation 7.1.3 to drive Windows 7 to be able to use ActivIdentity USB keys which are used (in my company) to connect to VPN. I have set VMWare and installed pcscd package. With installation of pcscd, I got visible Virtual Activekey Sim 00 00 with Activekey_sim in VMWare. Without pcscd I don't have this Virtual part, which is the part I connect to VM. So to be able to use ActiveIdentity USB key in VM, I connect Virtual ActiveKey Sim 00 00 after Windows has started. In VMWare VM's name.vmx I think I have set the following to be able to get the functionality: uhci.syncWriteback = TRUE usb.generic.allowCCID = TRUE On kernel 2.6.35-24-generic, this is working fine. But on kernel 2.6.38-020638rc2-generic from ubuntu kernel ppa, this is not working. I need key to work on this kernel, because one nasty bug with Intel graphic card is fixed (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/600453 and upstream https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29278) How I see the bug? When I connect Virtual Activekey Sim to the VM and start using the key, by trying to login to VPN, my VPN software just reports problem with the key. If I try to use the key with IE (or Firefox) to login, the login screen last for minutes and finally timeouts. On the key led is just changing color, until I disconnect the key from the VM. What I see in the /var/log/messages is the following, while I am trying to use the key: Jan 29 08:22:28 drodiger1 pcscd: commands.c:1338:CCID_Receive() Can't read all data (55 out of 54 expected) Jan 29 08:22:28 drodiger1 pcscd: ifdwrapper.c:722:IFDTransmit() Card not transacted: 612 Jan 29 08:22:28 drodiger1 pcscd: winscard.c:1675:SCardTransmit() Card not transacted: 0x80100016 This messages are repeated until I disconnect the key from VM. This problem is also visible on kernel 2.6.36,37 and 38. If this bug is related to kernel and not pcscd package, you can move it. [Bug 709649] Re: unity_support_test crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::IOpenGLAsmVertexShader::IOpenGLAsmVertexShader()
I tested the CD in the same drive; without cleaning or even removing it. I tested it with the live CD boot option that tests the CD. It passed. I had to use the nomce kernel command line option to get even the simple test to boot. I recall though that I do NOT have to use nomce for the memory test option on the live CD. Maverick continues the tradition of logging an MCE in dmesg at 300 seconds: [ 300.040038] Machine check events logged ** Description changed: I've got this all typed in and I see in dmesg that there are some CD read errors. I have seen these before with what appear to be incorrectly created squashfs CD's. The panic / oops may indeed be - caused by a CD error. + caused by a CD error. EDIT I tested the CD with the test CD boot + option and it passed. /EDIT This is when running the i386 Natty (11.04) daily live (development) CD dated I believe 2011-01-27 on a very stable Dual core (Intel 925 dual core (AMD64 capable), P4M800PRO, 2 gigs, Asus Geforce 3 AGP) system that I just want to get better OpenGL running on. (Hoping to find better OpenGL support in Natty.) It happened as the desktop was coming up. No icons or task bars appeared before the error, but the background had been painted for perhaps 30 seconds (wild guess). This system exhibits the no human readable MCE decoding support on this CPU type issue at boot up into this live Natty CD and I had to use nomce in the kernel boot options line to get past it. I also recall that with previous kernels on Lucid (AMD64) this stable system always generates an MCE at 300 seconds after boot in dmesg. I researched it before and didn't find anything useful. I use this system for 12 hours every day (with Maverick lately) and have no lockups or corruptions at all. With the Natty daily CD, this system also exhibits the it seems you do not have the hardware requirements to run unity issue, perhaps because it has an old monitor that these later kernels (at least the later ones, maybe the earlier ones too) have a hard time finding the EDID on. On my hard drive upgrade from Lucid to Maverick I had to make an xorg.conf with some horizontal and vertical monitor timing ranges before it would let me use a reasonable screen resolution and refresh rate. In Maverick, the refresh rate was 0 before this and (I forget the tool) said it got an EDID error trying to get info from the monitor. Looking at dmesg, I see that I have an easycap (video to USB adapter) plugged in (with no video source though). The easycap device works fine under previous versions of Ubuntu (sourceforge driver). I notice though that it was detected as the FOUR-CVBS (4 video input) hardware version which is incorrect if that matters. It is the single CVBS version. If I had to guess at possible causes, I would point first to the CD read errors (that I now see in the dmesg) (I need to retest reading the CD on - this drive from my stable Maverick), then to the benign MCE that always - happened at 300 seconds (at least with earlier Ubuntus) and I suspect - that is related to the no human readable MCE decoding support on this - CPU type that I now get with this Natty development version. + this drive from my stable Maverick), EDIT CD tested OK /EDIT then to + the benign MCE that always happened at 300 seconds (at least with + earlier Ubuntus) EDIT Maverick also produces this benign MCE at 300 + seconds (and not again till reboot) /EDIT and I suspect that is + related to the no human readable MCE decoding support on this CPU type + that I now get with this Natty development version. [Bug 658131] Re: Overload the server ... __mutex_lock_slowpath
Hi, Those affected by this issue might want to check if they happen to have a NFS loopback mount: % mount | egrep ^`hostname`.*type nfs should not report a single line. I've been struck by this error 4-5 times a day on a single server until I found out that automount resources my host offered within our network did not get mounted locally using the --bind mount option, but using mount type NFS. As posted several times on the kernel mailing list a 'mount -t nfs localhost:' is in general a bad idea (see e.g. http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kernel/2007/9/21/271649/thread) Why did my Ubuntu 10.04 installation use a NFS loopback mount? Well, the first few lines of /etc/hosts on a freshly installed Ubuntu 10.04 read 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 NAME_YOU_USE_FOR_YOUR_MACHINE # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback Your automount configuration is probably set up such that /etc/auto.home (or the equivalent LDAP resource) provides a setting similar to the following: NAME_YOU_USE_FOR_YOUR_MACHINE NAME_YOU_USE_FOR_YOUR_MACHINE:/path/to /some-directory When trying to access /NAME_YOU_USE_FOR_YOUR_MACHINE/some-directory while logged in to NAME_YOU_USE_FOR_YOUR_MACHINE the ip address of NAME_YOU_USE_FOR_YOUR_MACHINE is resolved to 127.0.1.1 which is neither the ip address of your loopback device (127.0.0.1) nor of any of your network cards. That seems to be why automount decides to do a NFS loopback mount, not a --bind mount. According to Section 10.4 of the Debian Reference Manual the address 127.0.1.1 is only listed in /etc/hosts because [s]ome software (e.g., GNOME) expects the system hostname to be resolvable to an IP address with a canonical fully qualified domain name. This is really improper because system hostnames and domain names are two very different things; but there you have it. In order to support that software, it is necessary to ensure that the system hostname can be resolved. Most often this is done by putting a line in /etc/hosts containing some IP address and the system hostname. If your system has a permanent IP address then use that; otherwise use the address 127.0.1.1. (citated from http://qref.sourceforge.net/quick/ch-gateway.en.html) If your host is affected by this issue and is offering automount resources, it can be safely assumed to have (at least one) permanent IP address. Which implicates that the line with the ip address 127.0.1.1 in /etc/hosts can be removed/commented out/replaced with the proper ip address (one of) your network card(s) uses. No NFS loopback mounts will happen any more then, but decent --bind mounts such that the problem described in the postings of this thread will not be triggered any more. At least that's what solved it for 50+ hosts running Ubuntu 10.04 24/7 in our network, not a single one has crashed within weeks since having applied this modification while all of them provide automount resources used both remotely and locally. Hope this helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/658131 Title: Overload the server ... __mutex_lock_slowpath -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 709664] [NEW] Using Bluetooth mouse causes display to unrecoverably die
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg If I move my Bluetooth mouse, my laptop's screen and external screen hang unrecoverably, since the latest Natty updates. (This worked previously in natty.) The laptop trackpad works fine, and there is no problem; as soon as I move my Bluetooth mouse, the laptop screen and external monitor go black. The monitor's power button flashes, which normally means that it's receiving no input at all (rather than receiving the input of a black screen); ctrl-alt-F1 does not (visibly) switch to a VC. I tried to file the bug for Compiz developers, but was not helped by having to choose between three different Bugzilla hosts referred from various places.
