[Bug 444479] Re: missing apparmor access rule
I am also not able to start the mysql process successfully, even after adding the line /sys/devices/system/cpu/ r, to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld. Did an update of packages apt-get install mysql-client mysql-client-5.1 mysql-client-core-5.1 on ubuntu lucid. After this, when starting mysql with upstart script: service mysql start it just hangs, ps -e | grep my shows no processes. This happens when apparmor is running and when it is not, though settings (checked from a working mysql database server) seem to be correct. Something in the context/apparmor/security must be missing... any ideas? Could I remove profiles from apparmor to see if this is related without risking a server reboot? Apparmor status shows: /etc/init.d/apparmor status apparmor module is loaded. 6 profiles are loaded. 6 profiles are in enforce mode. /sbin/dhclient3 /usr/bin/freshclam /usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action /usr/lib/connman/scripts/dhclient-script /usr/sbin/mysqld /usr/sbin/tcpdump 0 profiles are in complain mode. 1 processes have profiles defined. 1 processes are in enforce mode : /usr/bin/freshclam (1706) 0 processes are in complain mode. 0 processes are unconfined but have a profile defined. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/79 Title: missing apparmor access rule -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

The problem does not appear on Fedora using autofs 5.0.5 so it looks like this is an Ubuntu specific bug. I changed the title of this bug report from NFS automount failover doesn't work to NFS automount using replicated servers doesn't work as I believe it better reflects the problem and saying 'failover' in combination with may put of the maintainers as autofs isn't supposed to do real faillover (yet. correct me if I'm wrong). [Bug 695857] Re: ssl protection not default for sensitive packages
I have tried to come up with some very good solutions, but it appears that we must lay (another) burden on packagers to realize this. 1) If an authenticating web app foo is installed and SSL is not installed then secure by default tells us that the user should see a splash page explaining that it would be insecure to not use SSL but that if you read README.NOSSL in the package then there are instructions to enable the unencrypted access anyway. OR there is a high prioryty quiestion to the admin during installation that results in doing the right thing. The default should be to be secure IMHO. I guess dpkg- reconfigure should re-ask that question and set things up according to the answer. 2) 1) takes care of 2) as well 3) Not sure what that means in terms of interaction with the admin 4) If SSL is installed then non-ssl access to the app should result in a redirect to the SSL url according to the principle of least surprise, and possebly also bug #1. In apache there is a number of ways to case configuration based on the presence of modules and so on. For ther httpds I don't know... [Bug 721320] Re: DKIM-related failures should not end up in the panic log
1. Better explanation of the issue and how it is affecting the package in Ubuntu. The debian bug report explains it quite nicely, but let me summarize... Without this patch, the Exim4 package on Lucid will generate warnings like this 2010-01-31 21:41:16 1Nbga6-0005ZL-FH DKIM: Error while running this message through validation, disabling signature verification. in /var/log/exim4/paniclog. These are not 'real' errors, they are just warnings. They can not be disabled. They do not belong in the paniclog, which should always be empty. 2. Provide a step-by-step to be able to reproduce this bug. Run a semi-busy mailserver on Lucid, and you will collect these warnings in your paniclog - on one of our machines, I'm seeing a couple a day on an average mail volume of 100,000 accepted messages. The patch is trivial, it's been applied to the Debian package, and it would be really nice to not have to manually patch Exim4 on Lucid for this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to exim4 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/721320 Title: DKIM-related failures should not end up in the panic log -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 723480] Re: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default
I am thinking that there will be many more virtual servers running in the wild very soon rather than physical servers, and I have a hunch that a lot of them are configured as 1Gb or even 512Mb -- if the defaults are too high, it results in a server that crashes after some time (it took mine about a day to crash) and at least for me it was not apparent where to find the error. I know, I should have done the math, but I somehow thought the defaults would be pre-calculated to fit a really small machine. In fact, one of my first errors I did, was to increase the limit to 100 children under that very assumption, and it definitely maxed my server out. It might even have been so that if I hadn't done that error I would have rebooted the server once a week and never found the problem. I could blame this on php too: before 5.2.0 max_memory was 8Mb default, 5.2.0 it became 16Mb and then recently it jumped to 128Mb. That's a large step to take. Now, I'm not sure if 128Mb for a php process is really necessary (although I know that wordpress loves memory), but in any case, I rather have a underutilized server by default than a server that slowly dives into dementia by default. I even think 4 might be too many as the max_children if the minimum requirements for ubuntu server is listed at 256Mb. That number pretty much says you can run most stuff comfortably with 512Mb As for if it's better to have many concurrent serving php instances vs a lot of memory allocated to each instance is probably depending an the application. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723480 Title: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 687535] Re: upstart loses track of ssh daemon after reload ssh
I just updated to the openssh-server_5.3p1-3ubuntu5 package for a Lucid instance, and now I can't get SSH to start. Or, rather, I'm running into what Jan mentioned above, with the respawning/terminating loop that eventually results in init deciding that SSH isn't going to start, and giving up. Something like: init: ssh main process (430) terminated with status 255 init: ssh main process ended, respawning init: ssh main process (449) terminated with status 255 init: ssh main process ended, respawning init: ssh main process (456) terminated with status 255 init: ssh main process ended, respawning ... init: ssh main process (468) terminated with status 255 init: ssh respawning too fast, stopped The real trouble here is, this is an EC2 instance that was just restarted, so now I have no means by which I can get on that machine to do any additional troubleshooting or ultimately fix this. But this was not caused by me executing an /etc/init.d/ssh stop, so I don't think this is bug #531912. So my question would be what now? Downgrade upstart (I just upgraded to 0.6.5-8)? OK, if /etc/init/ssh doesn't fully replicate the functionality of the /etc/init.d/ssh script to include properly setting up chrooted environments and properly handling libc6 updates then what benefit does it provide users? Why, if you can't get Upstart to provide the same functionality as the /etc/init.d startup script, move control of sshd over to Upstart anyways? Again, what does it do for the users? [Bug 715643] Re: Bluetooth modules cause random S4 hangs
I checked 13-49bluetooth-sync.patch in the Natty pm-utils source package and bug 698331. I think it is not the same as this bug. Bug 698331 and 49bluetooth are specific to Thinkpads. This bug deals with hardwares other than Thinkpads. 49bluetooth checks the presence of a proc node generated by the thinkpad-acpi kernel module or the script just exits in the first line. And the fix in Bug 698331 polls /sys/module/btusb/refcnt. This is only relevant when SUSPEND_MODULES with btusb is used. Here it was found (by many experiments) that stopping the bluetoothd alone, without unloading/loading the btusb kernel module can work around the hibernate hangs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/715643 Title: Bluetooth modules cause random S4 hangs -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 617356] Re: Super-shortcuts for apps, files, and workspace switcher
I should maybe add that there is no way to change the default for existing users. So, if they had Super + A for something, on upgrade, this is not an issue for the unity session as it's a new profile and Super + A will give the new shortcut we decided, but on the classic session, as it's the same old profile (gold rule, keep user configuration), Super + A will still be assigned to expose all windows from all workspaces. Having two shortcuts doing different things on different sessions can be considered as bad. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/617356 Title: Super-shortcuts for apps, files, and workspace switcher -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 617356] Re: Super-shortcuts for apps, files, and workspace switcher
Ok, all the plumbings are nearly done for that, however, there is still some key shortcut to discuss. In lucid, the compiz keys have been reviewed in length by the design team and we have conflicting ones with the new ones. Like, Super + A - expose all windows from all workspaces Super + W - expose the focused window and all window from the same application on the same workspace Super + E - workspace expose mode (what should become Super + W seeing above) Note that contrary to what have been told, Super + D is doing nothing. So, there are some conflicts with the new proposal, what should be done? Changing the experience and people upgrading from lucid or maverick will trigger false positives (habits…)? What to set to the other keybindings (for the GNOME classic session for instance, like the workspace expose mode). Also, another question: it's quite easy to make those key localizable (like T or D for the dash make no sense in French as it's Corbeille). I think this is a bad idea though as we should just have one shortcut that people speaking different language can share, Just mentioning it. I'll merge the work as soon as something has been decided :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/617356 Title: Super-shortcuts for apps, files, and workspace switcher -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 723002] [NEW] External monitor not working properly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Description:Ubuntu natty (development branch) Release:11.04 An external monitor 1280x1024 connected to my netbook ACER aspire one D250 does not work properly. By toggling with Fn+F5 I manage to see the netbook monitor only, both monitors cloned at low resolution 800x600 but not the external monitor alone. More precisely I do but only the left bottom corner of the monitor is used, seemingly a 1024x660 area corresponding to the resolution of the netbook. The mouse pointer can go everywhere in the monitor (also in the 'black' area), however by clicking in some position one obtains the effect that the click is done elsewhere. I also tested pm-utils from Natty (1.4.1-5). As mentioned in the last comment, 49bluetooth is not actually executed because I was not testing on a Thinkpad. I removed the thinkpad-related part, left only 13-49bluetooth- sync.patch, and added /sys/module/btusb/refcnt. The value does not reach 0. However this should make the CPU waits a while before the time out. But the hang is still observed in my testing.
