Bug description:
  Binary package hint: php5

  php5-fpm is currently unavailable in Natty.

  This might be due to a change done in package php5 version 5.3.3-2 (see
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/php5/5.3.3-7ubuntu1) where building
FPM has been disabled. The package had probably been merged into Ubuntu during
debianImport.
  It seems that the latest version of php5 (3.5.3-1 see
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/p/php5/current/changelog) from
debian has reintroduced the build of PHP-FPM.

  Please also see bug 708504 which is the needs-packaging bug report for

[Bug 723891] Re: package mailman 1:2.1.13-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-02-24 Thread James Page
Kyle

I've taken a look at the pre-installation script and it will fail with
an exit status of 1 if any queue files in /var/lib/mailman/qfiles.

I could re-produce this error message by creating a file in
/var/lib/mailman/qfiles - I was then presented with the option to
continue regardless or abort the installation.

Did you get any prompted during the upgrade about this directory
containing files? I got the following error message (and advice which
might help):

 The directory /var/lib/mailman/qfiles contains files. It needs to be
 empty for the upgrade to work properly. You can try to handle them by:
  - Stop new messages from coming in (at the MTA level).
  - Start a mailman queue runner: /etc/init.d/mailman start
  - Let it run until all messages are handled.
If they don't all get handled in a timely manner, look at the logs
to try to understand why and solve the cause.
  - Stop it: /etc/init.d/mailman stop
  - Retry the upgrade.
  - Let messages come in again.
 You can also decide to simply remove the files, which will make
 Mailman forget about (and lose) the corresponding emails.
 .
 If these files correspond to shunted messages, you have to either
 delete them or unshunt them (with /var/lib/mailman/bin/unshunt).
 Shunted messages are messages on which Mailman has already abandoned
 any further processing because of an error condition, but that are
 kept for admin review. You can use /var/lib/mailman/bin/show_qfiles to
 examine the contents of the queues.
 .
 You have the option to continue installation regardless of this problem, at
 the risk of losing the messages in question or breaking your Mailman setup.

Thanks

[Bug 724155] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: podproces instalovaný post-installation skript vrátil chybový status 1

2011-02-24 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It looks like bacula-director-mysql had problems contacting the mysql
database that is supporting the installation.

If mysql-server was already installed and running, this is maybe because
you did not supply the correct admin password during the configuration
of bacula-director-mysql. This is also caused when mysql-server is not
pre-installed; this package is a dependency for bacula and is installed
but does not start prior to bacula configuration causing this type of
error.

Please can you try running the following commands:

 sudo apt-get remove bacula-director-mysql
 sudo apt-get install bacula

This should remove the current part-installed bacula packages and re-
start the installation. You should get prompted for the admin password
of the mysql-server database.

Please update this bug if this resolved your issue.

Thanks

[Bug 724517] [NEW] isql segfaults in batch mode

2011-02-24 Thread Kyle Strickland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unixodbc

Ubuntu 10.10, unixodbc_2.2.14p2-1ubuntu1

Steps to reproduce:
* run isql -b MyDSN MyUID MyPWD
* enter any SQL statement on one line, or nothing at all
* press Ctrl-D (EOF)
Segmentation fault

I had this occur both with FreeTDS and with IBM iSeries ODBC driver.
Crash occurs at line 264 of isql.c, apparently due to a null pointer
dereference.

Thanks!

[Bug 724571] [NEW] Some shared folders (root folders and non root folders) are seen as files on Windows XP and Windows 2003 having ACL enabled

2011-02-24 Thread Leonardo Borda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Hi Guys,

Some samba shared folders (root folders and non root folders) are seen as files
on Windows XP and Windows 2003 when ACL is enabled.
If I rename a folder, delete it or create a new folder, a different folder
becomes a file.

We have identified that this error occurs when a file has acl mask set to
mask::---  in the directory. ie:
# file: file.exe
# owner: Domain+user
# group: BUILTIN+administrators
user::rw-
group::r-x  #effective:---
group:Domain+domain\040admins:rwx   #effective:---
group:Domain+admindd:rwx#effective:---
group:Domain+adminddc:rwx   #effective:---
mask::---
other::---

Here is the smb.conf shared section..

[shared]
  comment = Shared Area
  path = /samba/shared
  read only = No
  create mask = 0770
  force security mode = 0700
  inherit acls = Yes
  hide unreadable = Yes
  fstype = XFS 1.2
  vfs objects = full_audit, shadow_copy

Steps to reproduce.

1. Enable acls
2. Configure samba as described above.
3. create 3 folders, create a file inside each folder and set one of the files
as follow:
sudo setfacl -m m:--- filename
4. Join a winxp or windows 2003 into a domain and try to access a shared
folder.

[Bug 724601] [NEW] UEC images should disable udev persistent net rules

2011-02-24 Thread Alex Bligh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cloud-init

Persistent interface naming should be disabled in UEC images, as it
causes more harm that good.

Firstly, cloud systems generally expect the interfaces to be created in
the order they are created in the hypervisor. Renaming them
(particularly when some images are persistent, and some are not) is
confusing.

Secondly, it causes inconsistency, in that the Xen pv interfaces (for
instance) are ignored, whereas the kvm ones aren't.

Thirdly, it causes terrible problems (read unbootable machines) on old
Xen (and perhaps newer Xen), where the same interface appears twice -
once as an emulated HVM interface, and one as a PV on HVM interface each
with the same MAC address. That makes for confusion, particularly given
one subsystem is ignored and one isn't. Essentially the interfaces
constantly rename.

The (very easy) solution is to disable persistent net interface
renaming.

[Bug 719898] Re: logwatch does not report cron events

2011-02-24 Thread Clint Byrum
Oliver, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us
make Ubuntu better!

This is indeed a problem on natty, and I've confirmed it on Debian
unstable as well.

I forwarded the issue and the patch upstream to Debian, and I'm marking
this bug as Triaged, setting Importance to Medium.

[Bug 723330] Re: rename() function didn't work with /tmp dir

2011-02-24 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Djalma! Thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help
us make Ubuntu better.

Indeed, the error message is confusing, because while you called rename,
copy is complaining.

This happens because of this snippet of code:

ret = VCWD_RENAME(url_from, url_to);

if (ret == -1) {
#ifndef PHP_WIN32
# ifdef EXDEV
if (errno == EXDEV) {
struct stat sb;
if (php_copy_file(url_from, url_to TSRMLS_CC) == SUCCESS) {
if (VCWD_STAT(url_from, sb) == 0) {

Basically since your /tmp is a different partition than your home dir,
php must emulate the low level unix rename by copying the file. The copy
is failing because the source is a dir, and copy doesn't accept
directories.

This is a bug, with an unclear resolution. Either rename should copy
recursively the whole directory to the new device, or it should describe
the problem with its own error message rather than relying on copy to do
it in a confusing way.

I've forwarded the issue upstream to PHP, so I'll mark the issue as
Triaged. There's nothing broken, its just not doing what we'd like it
to, so I'l set status to Wishlist.

James, thanks for extracting the error messages.

Brandon, thanks very much for taking the time to file this bug report

If you run this in a terminal:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Does it report the same error?

Also, after attempting that, can you attach this file:

/var/log/samba/log.nmbd ?

You may want to look through the contents of that file and remove
anything you wouldn't want on a public bug report before uploading it.

[Bug 723480] Re: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default

2011-02-24 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Marco, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report.

There's a basic assumption I think that can be made, that servers have
at least 1GB of virtual memory (not physical). 6GB, however, is
excessive. Given that, I'm marking this bug as Confirmed. We'll need to
open this discussion up with Debian before we can consider it Triaged.

Given the assumption of virtual memory, I think 6 would be a reasonable
default, as this would leave 256MB for other daemons and FS cache, and
only begin swapping when memory pressure is extreme. Ideally people
would write PHP scripts that don't leak so badly as to use 128MB of RAM.

Since this one is subjective, I am setting the Importance to Low. I
think the importance is still somewhat open to discussion, but we
definitely should lower this default no matter what.

Hi Thomas, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help

I was unable to reproduce this on Ubuntu 10.04 with the latest updates.

I didn't create the certificate though, I did this:

sudo apt-get install apache2
sudo a2ensite default-ssl
sudo a2enmod ssl
sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Doing that, I was able to access the site via SSL.

Can you please be specific about the steps to reproduce this?

I mentioned and linked to this bug on that bug report, and here's the link to

I made a patch for their part (so easy with svn diff), but don't really
know how to do it easily for binary packages (really, I guess I'm too
lazy to go through installing all requirements and get the source
packages etc.) Don't really want to have too much unnessecary stuff
hanging around on my production server..

Since there is a new version available 1.0.22 would it be possible to provide

[Bug 724172] [NEW] Unable to oprn nautilus from ny menu directly

2011-02-24 Thread John Vivirito
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

There is no way to open Nautilus home directory directly. I can open
other places and than move to $HOME but that is not ideal solution.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Click on files and folders from the Unity dock
2. search for Nautilus

Another way:
1. Click on the Ubuntu icon on the top left of screen
2. Click on Find Files

Neither will open your $HOME directory. Using the 2nd option does not
work at all. Clicking on the Ubuntu icon than clicking on Find Files
will not open anything at all.

What i expect:
I expect to be able to open my $HOME directory directly since most things if
not everything is used more than any other directory for the most part. You do
most editing in $HOME so it only makes sense to be able to open it.

Any more info needed please let me know
I am attaching a screen-shot.

[Bug 724175] [NEW] Evince window size changes arbitrarily

2011-02-24 Thread Suhyeon Park
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Evince is very good pdf viewer but there's no default window size option where
i can manually choose the window size and zoom level. I want fixed window size
and fixed zoom option for all pdf files. The problem is that Evince not always
remember it's size.

When I just [open] - [resize] - [ctrl + t] - [close] - [open] , then it
works well.

Sometimes it's window size became very small or wide in horizontal direction
and narrow.
There are many times it changes it's window size arbitrarity (or default size?)
but usually I don't remember what exactly I did before I open that file.

There are two examples I found.

1. [open] - [resize] - [ctrl+t] - [close] - [open] - [maximize] - [close] -
[open] - [restore]
then the window size became unexpectedly small.

2. [open] - [resize] - [ctrl+t] - [close] - [open another file I opened before]
then the ctrl+t is not applied to the second pdf file. The second one is shown
like when I closed it before.

[Bug 724051] Re: upgrade to 1.3.99+git20110116.0e27ce3a-0ubuntu4 breaks touchpad

2011-02-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
For those who need to use their touchpad while we work out what's
happening, here's a quick downgrade script that will temporarily drop
you back to the previous versions of the X server, synaptics, and evdev.

Caution: this will break apt - “sudo apt-get -f install” should get apt
to upgrade back into a coherent state with the newer, broken X,
packages.
