I have this problem in 10.10, i recently added wins to my nsswitch.conf to get name resolution to work on a windows network. hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] wins dns mdns4 This broke both aMSN and Rythmbox which now both crash when accessing the network, they will work correctly when wins is removed or moved behind dns or mdns4. Unfortunately network name resolution will not work for me unless wins is where you see it in that line. After a lot of googling I have found that this was fixed by Nicolas Gama in this thread https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/39990 However the .deb he made is no longer available and most likely wouldn't work on maverick anyway. There is info here that points to a compilation mistake with the ubuntu winbind package https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/529714 So rather than being a samba bug, it is an ubuntu bug and a working version of winbind should be compiled and put in the repositories to fix this across the board. Ok I have been messing around with 10.04 in virtualbox, ubuntu sees windows shares easily without winbind even being installed and without adding wins to nsswitch.conf, and once samba is installed my windows box can see ubuntu without any problems, also rhythmbox is working fine. so it seems something is breaking the way samba looks at the network, if winbind isn't even needed there's no point trying to fix that. does i is you configuring the display in your user session or of the login screen? I configured the display in the user session after logging in. The next time I boot, if the second (external) display is not connected, the login screen does not show up at all. The laptop display remains powered off. It could be an xorg problem as you say. But 1. The workarounds that worked are for gnome configuration and not Xorg configuration. 2. The Xorg logs don't indicate any error, and are the same for the case when the login screen shows up and for the case when it doesn't. I will attached both. I think I will add a feature request at rdesktop. I am using Gnome-RDP + rdesktop on my Ubuntu 10.10 laptop to connect to a Windows 7 box over Wifi. The software I'm mainly using is the graphics intensive Google Sketchup which is easy, free CAD. The screen transition is relativley smooth, and I'm really happy with Gnome-RDP as opposed to the Terminal Services package (default for Ubuntu) or VNC. Anyways, Gnome-RDP is a great package. Hi Wayne-- Currently it's No Effect. When I bring up my Administration = Additional Drivers dialog it says the nVidia driver is installed and being used. This is going to sound really strange, but there is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. There is a save version that I made when backing up the config when I was dealing with the X won't come up problem. I removed xorg.conf in hopes it would be re-installed. I just figured it had been since my desktop is up and running. After the Searching, Installing phase it requests a reboot. Although the Ubuntu boot splash displays, X never comes up, and it dumps you to the console login. I doubt this works on other Platform cause you haven't configured it right. You need DLM daemon that keeps track of locking between the blades. Also, your cluster configuration doesn't contain one single resources. I'm not sure how you expected this to work.
