Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

hi
i upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and i could not get into the system (udev
trigger terminated ... error ... / not ready). i had a look and found the
solution in the forums, did a 'apt-get update' and was prompted to run 'dpkg
--configure -a', which i did. during this process errors related to samba were
already indicated. the system opened without a problem except that i was
prompted to report this samba error, but i am not aware of any functional
issues. the windows directory is mounted in my upgraded system and accessible.
so i do not know why i was prompted to report this problem, maybe you can
detect something.

jan

[Bug 520386] Re: libvirt-bin hypervisor does not support virConnectNumOfInterfaces / unable to create domain with virt-manager using network bridge

2011-04-30 Thread S.
Bug is also in Natty Narwhal 11.04

Please raise the severity of this.

Very Disappointed that this key feature is not in Ubuntu
(creating bridge from the virtual machine manager)

and the work around mentioned is really usable nor follows the Ubuntu way of
making it just work.

[Bug 774322] [NEW] Sync sysstat 10.0.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-04-30 Thread Dave Walker
Public bug reported:

Please sync sysstat 10.0.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Ubuntu delta was to fix binutils-gold + ld --no-add-needed. Debian package
builds on oneiric.. patch no longer required.

Changelog entries since current oneiric version 9.1.7-2ubuntu1:

sysstat (10.0.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream (stable) release:
+ Don't link sysstat's commands with sensors library if not
  needed (closes: #612571).
+ [Adam Heath]: iostat incorrectly mapped device-mapper IDs
greater than 256. This is now fixed (closes: #614397).
  * debian/rules: switch to using dh command.
  * Remove 07-remove_fdatasync.patch, no longer needed.

[Bug 723603] Re: vsftpd no longer supports both anonymous_enable and local_enable

2011-04-30 Thread Clint Byrum
Alain, first, thanks for responding and working with us to try and nail
down this issue.

vsftpd is run via an upstart job when you start it with 'service vsftpd
start'. This means it will be a direct child of pid 1, and not be
subject to any of the limits you may have imposed on your login shell.
I'd say that starting it manually isn't really a supported way to start
vsftpd.

Do you get the errors about pam_shells if you start with 'service vsftpd
start', or only when starting it manually?

Marking Incomplete again, pending response from Alain. My guess is that
there's no bug, just poor documentation on best practices for daemons
that are setup to be managed via upstart.

[Bug 766242] Re: lp:ubuntu/cloud-init is not buildable by bzr-builder

2011-04-30 Thread Clint Byrum
Are you certain this is a problem with the branch?

The branch matches what is in the Ubuntu archives exactly. bzr bd -S
from the branch and apt-get source produce identical
.dsc/.debian.tar.gz/.orig.tar.gz files.

It seems more appropriate then that bzr-builder should be able to read
this the same way bzr-buildpackage does .. not that this branch should
somehow be changed to suit bzr-builder. I notice that all of the patches
are to catch the branch up with upstream trunk. Maybe whats really
broken is that you need to have your recipe remove the patches from the
build entirely.

[Bug 774452] [NEW] php-pear: pecl install reports Call to undefined method PEAR::raiseErro()

2011-04-30 Thread Ryan Tucker

error:

# pecl install uploadprogress
Fatal error: Call to undefined method PEAR::raiseErro() in

Likewise on a search:

# pecl search uploadprogress
The value of config option cache_dir (/tmp/pear/cache) is not a directory and

The behavior matches Debian bug #619307, so I suppose the fix may be

[Bug 769514] Re: Mail not sent unless relayhost has a port number

2011-04-30 Thread windracer
I agree but can't seem to figure out what it is. It has to be related to
postfix not being able to read the services file, but I've confirmed my
chroot permissions (for /var/spool/postfix/etc/) seem to be correct and
smtp/tcp is in the file. I've tried turning off the chroot jail and the
same thing happens (but /etc/services looks fine too) so I'm stuck right
now.

[Bug 774500] [NEW] postfix build does not have documented support of sqlite

2011-04-30 Thread Mike Power
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

I having been setting up a personal postfix mail server and I was going
to use sqlite as the database to store configuration.

After following the configuration instructions here:
http://www.postfix.org/sqlite_table.5.html
I restarted the postfix server, but got now output on the port. Investigating
I checked the logs:

May 1 03:24:54 postfix postfix/master[15792]: warning:

May 1 03:25:54 postfix postfix/proxymap[24473]: fatal: dict_open: unsupported

May 1 03:25:55 postfix postfix/master[15792]: warning: process

May 1 03:25:55 postfix postfix/master[15792]: warning:

I searched the repository and I did not find a postfix-sqlite. I did however
find instructions to build sqlite postfix support:
http://mattrude.com/technology/installing-postfix-with-sqlite-support/

Not sure if this indicates that sqlite support is supposed to be built
into postfix or now.

2011-04-30 Thread Mike Power
Odd
according to postfix:
SQLite support was added with Postfix version 2.8.

* Implementation by Axel Steiner
* Documentation by Jesus Garcia Crespo

I am running postfix 2.7.0. So it is not supposed to have sqlite
support even though the fedora howto was using some postfix 2.6 version

[Bug 774541] Re: package postfix 2.8.2-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 75

2011-04-30 Thread Robert Roth
Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
Server better.

According to the information you have provided, it seems that the reason
why it failed to upgrade is because one of the parameters can not
contain the ' '(space) character in it:

newaliases: warning: valid_hostname: invalid character 32(decimal):
Front Desk

So, this means that you would have to change the parameter accordingly
to not to have any space characters in it. Once you change it, you
should be able to do the following to complete the installation:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Please, let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

There are known problems w/ upstart when using restart with jobs that

[Bug 773864] [NEW] root crontab file has disapeard on my maverick box

2011-04-30 Thread PresuntoRJ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cron

I know for a fact hey ware there, cause a couple of days ago I had to
edit (sudo crontab -l) to comment a few lines for a test I was doing
(trying a new backup program).

Today, when I was done testing, I wanted to uncomment the lines to roll
back the old backup schedule and the crontab was empty... sudo crontab
-e also indicated it empty and in /var/spool/cron/crontabs I have
found only the users files, not the root one.

Then, after I have cryed a little, I have found this post
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10742514#post10742514 with
someone describing the same issue, but in Lucid then I have posted
this bug report.

I am not sure if there is a workaround, a way to reproduce the symptoms,
a way to get my crontab file back (my /var/spool where never backed up),
or if there was a recent crontab upgrade during my testing... but I can
tell I had to reboot a couple of times theese days, and never expected
this to happen.

[Bug 773867] [NEW] menu bar corrupted and unreadable. still works.

2011-04-30 Thread Andrew Davie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The top menu bar has corrupted. No icon or text is legible. However the
items in the bar still work. For example, I can click where the time
display *was* and I get the calendar dropdown. But the time is not
visible on the menu bar anymore -- just a graduated stippled corruption.
I also notice a blank icon space in the unity bar left of screen -
-not sure if that is related. When I do the workspace switcher, the
menu bar on those 4 screens is identically corrupt. I'd previously seen
the corruption on the workspace switch mini-screens, but now it's on my
main screen too.

[Bug 557775] Re: Persistent Storage option always greyed out

2011-04-30 Thread David Gamino
This workaround worked for me too. Many thanks.

Copy your ISO image to /tmp or somewhere else not automatically
destected by usb-creator.

Choose 'Other' and select that ISO

Select that image from the listing

Now it's not greyed out anymore and you can also go back to select your
original image and it will be good.

Re: [Bug 610898] Re: grub-pc upgrade renders computer unbootable when Wubi is installed to partition other than Windows

2011-04-30 Thread bcbc
Testcase 3: Lucid 10.04.2 on E: drive (ntfs partition /dev/sda3)
=
Grub version in wubildr at install 1.98-1ubuntu5
Grub version in Ubuntu at install 1.98-1ubuntu10
debconf-show grub-pc --- install-devices: blank

Test method:
Add Proposed to sources, and update grub-pc through synaptic (not running
other updates)

Expected result:
===
1. wubildr on /dev/sda2 will be updated (that's C:)
2. grub modules added to /boot/grub
3. /boot/grub/grub.cfg changes as expected with new modules present.
4. No prompt to install grub to /dev/sda

Results:
=
1. wubildr on /dev/sda2 not updated
2. grub modules not added to /boot/grub
3. /boot/grub/grub.cfg not changed
4. There was no prompt to install grub to /dev/sda

(grub is now version 1.98-1ubuntu12)

Conclusion:

This will stop this bug (installing grub to drive MBR). But I expected
wubildr to be updated. Maybe my expectation is incorrect, but there is still
a distinct difference between wubi installed to the same partition as
windows (/host/wubildr exists), and when it doesn't.

[Bug 759529] Re: iwlagn degrades quickly during normal wifi session

2011-04-30 Thread Matthew Walden
I experienced this error yesterday but have been having wireless issues
today without this message.

Although I can see from /var/log/syslog that it is disconnecting and
reconnecting, if I disable ipv6 with the following sysctl settings it
has so far prevented the GUI network manager from going into a infinite
reconnecting loop -

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1

I should say that I am not a Linux expert so this has just been through
'nothing ventured nothing gained' testing on my own machine. I noticed
some warnings about ipv6 and I know I don't use it so it made sense to
see whether disabling it helped.

[Bug 752792] Re: Internal microphone not working in natty with VAIO VPCSB

2011-04-30 Thread David Henningsson
It is not yet released in Natty, when it will, this bug should be
noticed. As for upgrading to newer ALSA versions, I generally recommend
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa - although the daily builds
are not yet up for Natty, so there is no really good option there yet.
