[Bug 653405] Re: rabbitmq-server fails to start if hostname is unresolvable or has changed since first starting

2011-05-03 Thread Martin Pitt
I also suggest to forward this bug to Debian and discuss it with the
maintainer there, to avoid a permantently different solution in Ubuntu.

I reject the current upload for natty-proposed.

Thank you!

[Bug 653405] Re: rabbitmq-server fails to start if hostname is unresolvable or has changed since first starting

2011-05-03 Thread Martin Pitt
Eww, automatically changing configuration files in maintainer scripts?
That looks like a no-go to me. It does not even check if the IP already
exists in /etc/hosts, or whether the file is used at all (in
nsswitch.conf).

Can we instead just make the package generate an error debconf note if
/etc/hosts is misconfigured and fail gracefully?

[Bug 776194] [NEW] Error mails after changing the ntp server

2011-05-03 Thread ubunturox
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ntpdate

I changed the ntp server using the System menu like described here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTime

But I still get error mails from Anacron:

/etc/cron.daily/ntpdate:
3 May 07:45:19 ntpdate[23946]: no server suitable for synchronization found
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/ntpdate exited with return code 1

Maybe the script should be changed to something like this:

ntpdate $(perl -ne 'print $1 if /^server (.+)$/' /etc/ntp.conf)
1/dev/null

I don't have the need for a ntpd to run ether - the cron job would have
sufficed.
To change from a daily cronjob to a running daemon just because I don't use the
default server seems inconsistent to me.

[Bug 653405] Re: rabbitmq-server fails to start if hostname is unresolvable or has changed since first starting

2011-05-03 Thread Dustin Kirkland
It seems to me that the real problem is that the machine was installed
with a partial /etc/hosts file.

I did an install yesterday of an 11.04 desktop, where I have exactly the
127.0.1.1 x201 entry I expected.

If we're missing that in server or cloud installations, we need to get
to the bottom of that. What package or process creates the original
/etc/hosts? I looked at base-files, rootskel, and isc-dhcp, but haven't
found it yet...

[Bug 769514] Re: Mail not sent unless relayhost has a port number

2011-05-03 Thread Denny Daugherty
I am experiencing this issue also with a null client configuration as
specified at
http://www.postfix.org/STANDARD_CONFIGURATION_README.html#null_client

myorigin = $mydomain
relayhost = $mydomain
inet_interfaces = loopback-only
local_transport = error:local delivery is disabled

I'm running an Amazon EC2 instance using the current natty AMI from
alestic.com

Re: [Bug 769514] Re: Mail not sent unless relayhost has a port number

2011-05-03 Thread Scott Kitterman
amd64 is the architecture name for x86_64.

I suspect this is related to the multiarch changes introduced in 11.04 (which
is why it works for me on i386 and not for others). I've pinged the developer
who did most of the multiarch work and will ask him to investigate.

2011-05-03 Thread Steve Langasek
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 764096 ***

This is because nss_files is in a subdirectory of /lib/ rather than in

files into the postfix chroot. Same as bug #764096.

[Bug 768296] Re: Setting hostname via config is not reflected in /etc/hosts

2011-05-03 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Marking confirmed in Ubuntu's cloud-init, and subscribing Marc Cluet,
who is hitting some issues with this, when trying to run a rabbitmq-
server in an Ubuntu cloud instance.

It seems that the rabbitmq-server needs to be able to resolve the
system's host name.

We're trying to figure out the best way to do that. Marc had a proposed
patch that added it in the rabbitmq-server's package's postinst, but
that implementation was at least initially rejected.

Hm.  Actually all the problems I've had I've traced to environments (bad
network setup for one, device permissions for another).  I finally got a
maverick xen host in a working environment - and vmbuilder -ec2 worked
 there.

Ok.

What does /proc/devices on your host show?

$ cat /proc/devices

 What sort of storage setup
 do you have?

I'm building the image on an ordinary harddisk with my home folder
encrypted.

The 'Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel?' is
odd, and presumably comes from grub in the chroot.  It almost sounds
 like your host is multipathed.
What does 'df -h' and 'mount' on the host show?

[Bug 776020] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.3-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-05-03 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
Server better.

It seems that the reason of the failure is because the MySQL server is
not yet running. Please, make sure mysql server is running and try
reinstalling bacula-director-mysql and let us know the result.

I'm marking this bug as incompelte until further information is
provided.

Thank you again!

[Bug 774964] Re: package bacula-director-mysql (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 10

2011-05-03 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi there,

thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
better.

It seems that when trying to remove the package, bacula tries to connect
to the mysql datbase to dump it, maybe as a backup. However, it is
unable to do so as it seems that the credentials (user/password) are
incorrect or when installed, the creation of the user wasn't complete
and now it is trying to do it.

Could you please verify that bacula can connect to the MySQL server, or
try to reinstall the package and remove it again?

Thank you again. Marking this bug as incomplete for now.

[Bug 776642] [NEW] segfaults from 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.15

2011-05-03 Thread pwolanin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

After upgrading from 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.14 to 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.15 we are
experiencing a segfault in PHP code that has been running fine for many
months on Ubuntu 8.04.

Looking at the patches added to this release, my initial guess is that
it relates to the backport of this fix: http://bugs.php.net/52879

The segfault occurs in this code:
http://drupalcode.org/project/apachesolr.git/blob/c41231e49f06ab32bb48f34c4a4dc0f21162321d:/apachesolr.index.inc

at line 150's function call.

The two adjacent function signatures are very similar:

function apachesolr_add_tags_to_document($document, $text) {
function apachesolr_add_taxonomy_to_document($document, $node) {

However, if I remove the from the 2nd one, the segfault goes away:

function apachesolr_add_taxonomy_to_document($document, $node) {

The class of the $document object is this:

http://code.google.com/p/solr-php-
client/source/browse/trunk/Apache/Solr/Document.php?r=15

And you'll note that it implements __get(), __set(), __isset(), and
__unset()

2011-05-03 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi David,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make ubuntu
server better.

According to the logs, it seems that the reason of failure is because
apache cannot find a module named reqtimeout.

Please, make sure that the module is installed or the symlink is
correctly set and do the following:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Should be able to try to reconfigure the package. Let us know the
output.

I'm marking this bug as incomplete until further information is
provided.

Thanks again.

[Bug 776650] [NEW] Build qemu-kvm with native VDE support

2011-05-03 Thread Joseph Coffland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

It would be convenient to build qemu-kvm with VDE support. There is a
wrapper 'vdekvm' that comes with vde2 but VDE is better supported
directly in KVM. I believe it is simply a matter of adding 'libvde-dev'
as a build dep for the package.

I've been rebuilding the qemu-kvm packages this way for some time and
all I've had to do is install the dependency before building and KVM
automatically picks it up and adds native VDE support.

[Bug 360975] Re: Please add nf_conntrack_pptp and nf_conntrack_netbios_ns to IPT_MODULES

2011-05-03 Thread Praetor77
I have fumbled around with this issue for HOURS until I came across this by
accident reading through a 2 year old mailing list. This actually isn´t only a
problem with samba, it renders WINS hostname resolving impossible! I could not
ping hostname. I never thought ufw could be causing problems with hostname
resolving, since I had opened up ports 137-139 and 445 as I found somewhere,
but after trying ALL kinds of stuff like installing winbind, editing
nsswitch.conf, smb.conf, etc.
I finally got hostname resolving to work (and therefore being able to access
windows share using samba by hostname in Nautilus) by adding
nf_conntrack_netbios_ns to IPT_MODULES in /etc/default/ufw.Of course, disabling
UFW also works.

PS: Maybe we could change this bug report´s name? This is impossible to
find for people trying to get hostname resolving to work, samba shares
browsable by Nautilus, etc.

Note that as a workaround, you can connect the iso to the second cdrom

connected and cdrom 2 is not, and 'boot=cdrom' is specified) is:

[Bug 776650] Re: Build qemu-kvm with native VDE support

2011-05-03 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for submitting this bug. Indeed VDE support would be nice to
have. The hangup is that libvde-dev is in universe, which will require
a MIR (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionProcess). Would you be
willing to follow up on that?

Setting this to Confirmed and Medium priority, and hoping we can get
libvde-dev into main during oneiric cycle.

[Bug 776642] Re: segfaults from 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.15

2011-05-03 Thread pwolanin
Attached is a reasonably minimal test file. You also need to have the
Document.php file in the same directory:

svn export http://solr-php-
client.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/Apache/Solr/Document.php@22

running test.php is sufficient to cause a segfault.

@Serge

Thank you very much for the workaround, it works great. Even when 2
bootable CDROM are connected it's the second one that is used to boot. I
agree that it's a low priority item.

Thanks,

This suggests the segfault is happening during the return from function

Yes, unfortunately it is still open

This is waiting on an in depth audit of these modules. netbios_ns is the
priority, but it got backburnered. It is once again a work item for the
next development cycle. If someone wants to perform the in depth audit
and give details here, that would be fantastic. Thanks!

[Bug 774964] Re: package bacula-director-mysql (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 10

2011-05-03 Thread Dan Pitic
Yes, the problem did occur during removal and I was only able to enter
the mysql password once. At the time, it was unclear whether dpkg was
asking for the mysql bacula user password or the mysql admin password.
I incorrectly assumed it was asking for the mysql bacula password, when
instead it actually wanted the mysql admin password. There was no way I
could see of going back and re-entering the password.

I removed all of the bacula packages and re-installed just the bacula
client package. Everything is working fine now.

I guess the problem wasn't actually with bacula, but more so with dpkg
not allowing me to re-enter the incorrect password and also not being
specific enough about which mysql user it wanted a password for.

Thanks for your quick response time with this issue. Should I open up a
new bug for dpkg and transfer this description there?

[Bug 769191] Re: Incorrect configuration at installation

2011-05-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Zburatorul, thanks very much for the bug report!

So that we can more easily reproduce the problem, Can you please provide
the output of

sudo debconf-get-selections | grep krb5-config

Please carefully obfuscate any sensitive data that you do not want in a
public bug report.

I tried to reproduce this in oneiric (the latest dev release) and hardy
(the oldest supported release not counting dapper which is almost EOL).
I was able to use upper and lower case combined to specify the domain,
and it worked as I would expect, respecting my exact wishes and
consistently putting the same thing in the default_realm and the real
defaults section.

Marking Incomplete pending response.

[Bug 766510] Re: [sandybridge-gt1] Fonts and UI elements have artifacts around them and look bad

2011-05-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, my old man eyes don't see anything obviously erroneous offhand.
Try using gimp to zoom in on the areas you see as problematic, and
provide some correctly-rendered version of the ubuntu desktop that is
not showing the issue.

[Bug 776078] Re: Can no longer use mlab

2011-05-03 Thread Gael Varoquaux
The problem most probably comes from the fact that python-enthoughtbase has not
been upgraded while mayavi2 has. Mayavi 3.4.0, as shipped in natty, depends on
python-enthoughtbase 3.0.6, as detailed in the dependency list:
https://github.com/enthought/mayavi/blob/3.4.0/setup_data.py
python-enthoughtbase 3.0.5 is shipped in natty:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/python-enthoughtbase

The easiest fix is probably to backport python-enthoughtbase. The
changes are relatively minor.

fail to fetch error is due to an attempt to upgrade from a Ubuntu
