[Bug 736757] Re: [SRU] PANIC (pid 18442): internal error in winbindd

2011-05-22 Thread styro
Just chiming in to say that 3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.6 from lucid-proposed
also fixed this problem on our servers as well.

We've gone from daily winbind panics to no crashes since. We haven't
noticed any side-effects either.

Any idea if or when this makes it into lucid-updates?

[Bug 561750] Re: squid starts and stops immediately (after upgrade from karmic to lucid)

2011-05-22 Thread Ernst Kloppenburg
I tested the package from maverick-proposed against the current package
from maverick: both of the problems that were discussed in this bug
report are now gone (squid starts sucessfully with network not being
available yet, resolvconf script reloads the squid configuration and
does not kill squid)

Thanks Clint for finally fixing this bug.

After last message I ran a
  sudo dpkg --configure -a
It informed me that the differences between the changes of both versions of
`/etc/php5/apache2/php.ini` were too large to display.

Not knowing how to investigate the differences, I just used the
package-maintainers version, after I made a backup of my version.
No I'ĺl use a diff to see where I have to patch.

Thanks!

[Bug 781088] Re: Time is not syncronized with NTP-server

2011-05-22 Thread Clint Byrum
Excerpts from gerti's message of Sat May 21 16:47:41 UTC 2011:
 Hi Clint,

I appreciate, that a lot of the work going on around Ubuntu, is
 voluntary non-paid time,
and I DO appreciate, that heroic endeavor; cause otherwise, I could
only fall back to the ridiculously bug-ridden MS Windows...
But I would recommend that a person having authority to and taking
upon himself to close a bug-report (as invalid), at least had read the
bug-report, before closing the case :

I reported, that my completely raw (i.e. non-update) 11.4 Ubuntu did
 not adjust the clock correctly.
As this had not been a problem in all the earlier versions of Ubuntu
(and I have run them all), I was sure, that the nice Ubuntu-peoples
 would like to know.

Therefore I tried to experiment a little, amongst which removing the
 NTP-daemon,
 before reporting the bug.

 This IS a current bug,
the clock is NOT adjusted correctly after having installed 11.4 on an
 Acer Aspire one.

In my opinion its an flawed thinking, to remove the possibility under
settings to configure, which NTP-servers should be contacted to adjust
 the clock.

gerti, first I mistyped useful as useless in my reply, as I think
users find it quite use*ful* to have the ntp daemon synchronizing
their time.

Is it possible that you had temporary connection problems that prevented
the automatic time synchronization from working? I tested a fresh install
and it kept the time synced as I would expect. I didn't try starting
with a clock that was wildly out of sync with true time though.. maybe
thats part of the problem you're having? ntpd does refuse to make big
jumps in time, so if you are too far off, it doesn't help.

That the ability to change the NTP servers has been removed is more a bug
in indicator-datetime, not so much the ntp daemon which is really just
the magic that happens behind the scenes.

I could definitely argue that before starting ntpd, setting the option
to set the time Automatically from the Internet should use ntpdate to
set it if it is too far off.

So, I'm opening a new task against indicator-datetime, which we'll leave
at status New, so developers more familiar with its operation can decide
if this is by design or an accidental regression.

** Also affects: indicator-datetime (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided

[Bug 786813] [NEW] Enable avahi support in samba

2011-05-22 Thread jwm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

The debian developers disabled avahi support back in 2009:

* ./configure --disable-avahi, to avoid accidentally picking up an avahi
dependency when libavahi-common-dev is installed.

 -- Steve Langasek vor...@debian.org Sat, 26 Sep 2009 00:01:12 -0700

As ubuntu typically installs avahi by default, can this be switched back
on to provide a browsing alternative to netbios?

[Bug 721576] Re: [natty] kernel panic on reboot with (U)EFI

2011-05-22 Thread Roderick Smith
Another report on this: I'm using an Intel DG43NB motherboard (Intel G43
Express chipset, AMI EFI 2.00) with a Celeron E3300 CPU. I'd previously
been booting in BIOS mode with no problems, but I tried UEFI mode for
Ubuntu 11.04. I had the kernel panic on reboot, but not on shutdown.
I've tried this with both the Ubuntu precompiled 2.6.38-8-generic kernel
and a locally-compiled 2.6.39 kernel from the source at
http://www.kernel.org, with the same results with both. Adding
reboot=a,w to my ELILO options (GRUB 2 is unreliable for me) fixes the
problem (although I've not yet tested shutdown). Adding noefi to the
boot options prevented the system from booting. Also and FWIW, I found a
Debian bug report that seems to be of the same problem:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2011/05/msg00211.html

I took a photo, but it turned out illegibly blurry.

[Bug 777599] Re: Unity menu bar isn't hide when window is maximized

2011-05-22 Thread Alessandro Losavio
I have the same problem in Ubuntu 11.04 i 386

 Step to reproduce it:

1) Open LibreOffice Writer
2) Add a picture (Insert Picture From File ...)
3) Move the image around

Suddenly the bar is shown and Unity will no longer disappear.
The only way to make it work properly is to close LibreOffice Writer

This https://launchpad.net/indicator-multiload is a project that shows
your cpu usage graph in the MenuBar. When it is being shown in the
MenuBar the memory usage of compiz keeps increasing at quite a pace. The
bug seems to be easily reproduce able.

This ppa https://launchpad.net/~indicator-multiload/+archive/stable-
daily have the packages.

The author of the package thinks that this is not a bug in his code.

The main hack that indicator-multiload uses is that it generates a new icon for
each refresh (in a temporary directory on a ramdisk, and there are only 2 icons
existing at the same time) . So maybe somewhere in the dash there is an icon

2011-05-22 Thread Fredrik Jonson
This issue has been reported independently to gnome bugzilla.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637219

There's even a comment that has identified it as a race condition and
has offered a simplistic workaround to prove that.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637219#c6

I experience this issue almost every time I log in on natty with gnome
classic.

[Bug 786428] [NEW] Upgrade nodejs to latest version

2011-05-22 Thread zasran
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nodejs

Latest nodejs in ubuntu is 0.2.6-4ubuntu2 while 0.4.8 is available at
http://nodejs.org. Since nodejs is fairly new the changes are
significant, e.g. npm 1.0.0 (nodejs package manager) needs newer etc.

At this point everybody has to compile their nodejs by themselves (just
search the web to see overwhelming majority of people installing nodejs
from nodejs.org instead of using ubuntu packages).

[Bug 786431] [NEW] Restart stops on login screen before desired reboot

[Bug 786443] [NEW] New notes open behind existing windows

2011-05-22 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

New notes show up behind existing windows in the desktop. This happens
both when there's a maximized window and not. To reproduce this:

(I'm using Ubuntu classic without effects, creating the note from
indicator applet)

- Open a terminal (for example) and either maximize it or make it cover most of
the screen
- Press Create New Note in the applet
- Note shows up behind panel window

This is often very surprising as it seems the application isn't working

[Bug 778717] Re: Left Win key not working as Super in Unity after upgrade to 11.04

2011-05-22 Thread Colin Law
Running xev and hitting left Win key I see

Press event, serial 62, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,
root 0xbd, subw 0x0, time 4108575, (122,-14), root:(2406,188),
state 0x0, keycode 133 (keysym 0xff20, Multi_key), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: True

Whereas logged in the user when left Win works as super I see

KeyPress event, serial 30, synthetic NO, window 0x3a1,
root 0xbd, subw 0x0, time 3810057, (59,-10), root:(1427,97),
state 0x10, keycode 133 (keysym 0xffeb, Super_L), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

I ran
xmodmap -pke mymap
and for left win, keycode 133 (as deduced from xev above) I see
keycode 133 = Multi_key Multi_key Multi_key Multi_key
whereas logged in as working user I see
keycode 133 = Super_L NoSymbol Super_L

I editted mymap and changed the entry for 133 to Super_L and ran
xmodmap mymap
and now left win works as Super.

The remaining question is whether this a deficiency in the upgrade path
to 11.04 or whether I had a strange setting in 10.10 that caused the
problem (or possibly both of course). I have no recollection of
changing keyboard mappings in the past.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-22 Thread mellofello
Same basic problem, but found a potential shoddy workaround:
-Natty, Helios screensaver, 945GM/GMS/GME + 943/940GML Express IG Controller,
EeePC 900HA Netbook...

When the screen locks up, I have used the VGA port to sometimes get the display
back.
1. Plug-in a VGA cable (I have one hooked up to a TV anyhow)
2. Use the built-in (or pre-configure) hotkeys (for me Fn+F5) to cycle through
the multiple monitor modes -wait a few secs each time

Hopefully something will reappear. In my case I have had:
-parts of the screen reappear (enough to right click a launcher in, terminal
etc.)
-parts of the screen come back with other parts reappearing when spawned (eg.
click gnome menu, parts unfold clearing screen)

-the whole screen comes back

-both screens come back

If this doesn't work, try taking the VGA cord out and recycling through
the modes again. S-video/HDMI might work as well.

It might be worthwhile to write a refresh script you can get to with a
keyboard shortcut or alias you can put in a terminal. That way you
won't even need visual output to get you started.

Still no solution.
