[Bug 781088] Re: Time is not syncronized with NTP-server
Excerpts from gerti's message of Sat May 21 16:47:41 UTC 2011: Hi Clint, I appreciate, that a lot of the work going on around Ubuntu, is voluntary non-paid time, and I DO appreciate, that heroic endeavor; cause otherwise, I could only fall back to the ridiculously bug-ridden MS Windows... But I would recommend that a person having authority to and taking upon himself to close a bug-report (as invalid), at least had read the bug-report, before closing the case : I reported, that my completely raw (i.e. non-update) 11.4 Ubuntu did not adjust the clock correctly. As this had not been a problem in all the earlier versions of Ubuntu (and I have run them all), I was sure, that the nice Ubuntu-peoples would like to know. Therefore I tried to experiment a little, amongst which removing the NTP-daemon, before reporting the bug. This IS a current bug, the clock is NOT adjusted correctly after having installed 11.4 on an Acer Aspire one. In my opinion its an flawed thinking, to remove the possibility under settings to configure, which NTP-servers should be contacted to adjust the clock. gerti, first I mistyped useful as useless in my reply, as I think users find it quite use*ful* to have the ntp daemon synchronizing their time. Is it possible that you had temporary connection problems that prevented the automatic time synchronization from working? I tested a fresh install and it kept the time synced as I would expect. I didn't try starting with a clock that was wildly out of sync with true time though.. maybe thats part of the problem you're having? ntpd does refuse to make big jumps in time, so if you are too far off, it doesn't help. That the ability to change the NTP servers has been removed is more a bug in indicator-datetime, not so much the ntp daemon which is really just the magic that happens behind the scenes. I could definitely argue that before starting ntpd, setting the option to set the time Automatically from the Internet should use ntpdate to set it if it is too far off. So, I'm opening a new task against indicator-datetime, which we'll leave at status New, so developers more familiar with its operation can decide if this is by design or an accidental regression. ** Also affects: indicator-datetime (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781088 Title: Time is not syncronized with NTP-server -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 721576] Re: [natty] kernel panic on reboot with (U)EFI
Another report on this: I'm using an Intel DG43NB motherboard (Intel G43 Express chipset, AMI EFI 2.00) with a Celeron E3300 CPU. I'd previously been booting in BIOS mode with no problems, but I tried UEFI mode for Ubuntu 11.04. I had the kernel panic on reboot, but not on shutdown. I've tried this with both the Ubuntu precompiled 2.6.38-8-generic kernel and a locally-compiled 2.6.39 kernel from the source at http://www.kernel.org, with the same results with both. Adding reboot=a,w to my ELILO options (GRUB 2 is unreliable for me) fixes the problem (although I've not yet tested shutdown). Adding noefi to the boot options prevented the system from booting. Also and FWIW, I found a Debian bug report that seems to be of the same problem: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2011/05/msg00211.html I took a photo, but it turned out illegibly blurry. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/721576 Title: [natty] kernel panic on reboot with (U)EFI -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity
Same basic problem, but found a potential shoddy workaround: -Natty, Helios screensaver, 945GM/GMS/GME + 943/940GML Express IG Controller, EeePC 900HA Netbook... When the screen locks up, I have used the VGA port to sometimes get the display back. 1. Plug-in a VGA cable (I have one hooked up to a TV anyhow) 2. Use the built-in (or pre-configure) hotkeys (for me Fn+F5) to cycle through the multiple monitor modes -wait a few secs each time Hopefully something will reappear. In my case I have had: -parts of the screen reappear (enough to right click a launcher in, terminal etc.) -parts of the screen come back with other parts reappearing when spawned (eg. click gnome menu, parts unfold clearing screen) -the whole screen comes back -both screens come back If this doesn't work, try taking the VGA cord out and recycling through the modes again. S-video/HDMI might work as well. It might be worthwhile to write a refresh script you can get to with a keyboard shortcut or alias you can put in a terminal. That way you won't even need visual output to get you started. Still no solution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762918 Title: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
