the new package installed nice, without changing my configuration so it looks like this patch fixes the bug. Note: I get standard errors about an unconfigured nsd3 everytime I use apt which is related to another bug. [Bug 681774] Re: nova_sudoers is brittle, should use proper rootwrap
There are, in fact, three issues. 1/ The current sudoers file is way too permissive. It gives access to so many unrestricted commands that the nova user is as powerful as the root user. 2/ The sudoers setup is a bit brittle because it assumes things about your /etc/sudoers (must include /etc/sudoers.d). 3/ Whenever a code change in nova introduces the need for a new sudo command, the packages fail to introduce in parallel the needed change in the sudoers file, mainly because those are two separate code bases with two separate sets of developers working on it. Options include: * Strengthening the nova_sudoers file (precisely limiting options for every command) would address (1) * Shipping the nova_sudoers in Nova code, or generating it automatically at package-build time, would address (3) * Writing a specific command wrapper in Nova would address (1) and (3), but suffers of a bit NIH Not sure what's the best way to care about (2), or if we should just assume a sane sudoers.d support. 1. Install Oneiric Alpha 1 + ubuntu-virt-server + virt-manager Create network bridge for KVM guests manually. 2. Run # apt-get update # apt-get upgrade It should result upgrade Libvirt up to 0.9.1 in meantime. 3.Create block device - say /dev/sdb7 and install VF15 KVM guest on /dev/sdb7. Remove VF15 via virt-manager. 4. Try same install again with Natty as guest ( for example ) on /dev/sdb7. Virt-manager should load VF15 from device /dev/sdb7 instead of loading from CD as usual. That's my experience since trying DNLJ Virtualization PPA on Oneiric. If i will create ext4fs on /dev/sdb7 before second attempt with Natty, everything is going to be fine. 1. Install Oneiric Alpha 1 + ubuntu-virt-server + virt-manager Create network bridge for KVM guests manually. 2. Run # apt-get update # apt-get upgrade It should result upgrade Libvirt up to 0.9.1 in meantime. 3.Create block device - say /dev/sdb7 and install VF15 KVM guest on /dev/sdb7. Remove VF15 via virt-manager. 4. Try same install again with Natty as guest ( for example ) on /dev/sdb7. Virt-manager should load VF15 from device /dev/sdb7 instead of loading from CD as usual. That's my experience since trying DNLJ Virtualization PPA on Oneiric. Using libvirt, we used this in our xml: video model type='vmvga' vram='9216' heads='1'/ ... /video and it works ok. [Bug 795673] [NEW] init.d restart operation can fail without proper notice if the memcached process takes a long time ( 1s) to shut down
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: memcached I have noticed that sometimes on a production memcached service the restart command is not always reliable. If the memcached process has allocated a lot of memory, it sometimes take a little while to shut down. The init.d script seems to approach this by inserting a sleep 1 between the stop and start operations, but that's not always enough. When the memcached service is started again it will fail to start with the error failed to listen on TCP port X: Address already in use since the dying process still owns the port. Reading the code as suggested by Sam, I see that everything after = and before a newline is copied into the environment using 'setenv()'. So no quote expansion is done. I'm not sure what the fix is, but there's certainly the possibility that programs will misinterpret this. I'm marking it as Confirmed in krb5. The simple fix would be to add very basic quote expansion. The code in pam that does this does not support escaped quotes, and is not exposed as an extermal library, so I think its safe to just copy that. Marking Confirmed, also adding krb5-appl since it has been split out since 10.10. Hi! Thanks for taking the time to file a bug report and help us make Ubuntu better! Indeed, this does seem to happen on lucid. On maverick, natty, and oneiric, the same command only pulls in dkms, the headers are not in the dependency chain. This results in an entirely different failure, but one that seems to be by design of the dkms system. The work around of course, is to install the virtual headers first. In depends: the maintainer may have good reason to default to the generic 'linux-headers' instead of 'linux-headers-virtual', which is adequate but not their first pick for whatever reason. Marking Fix Released since Oneiric does not display the behavior. Opening task against lucid, importance low. I don't think this is actually SRU worthy, as the workaround for many will be, I think, quite obvious, which is, to install the linux-headers-virtual package, which is usually installed on full server VM's, just not in the JEOS case. Meanwhile unless I'm mistaken, this could cause a regression for people who expect the linux-headers package instead of linux-headers-virtual when they install this dkms. 64Bit Centos and RHEL work fine, this system worked fine until I ran a dist upgrade from 10.10 yesterday. I have also tried to boot CENTOS 5.6 x86 on a clean 11.04 install and it locks up. I don't agree that this is not a bug; as Michael pointed out there are log file processors like fail2ban which can't tell the difference between an auth failure from this and an auth failure from a guess. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit To reproduce: Open GEdit. Write some text in cyrilic. Save the file *with the Windows-1251* encoding. Close the file. Open the file through the Open dialog or through recently opened files within GEdit. File opens fine. Now close GEdit, and open the file by double clicking on it. File opens with gibberish (most likely thinking that it's a UTF8 file). What i expect to happen. There should be a setting allowing me to say that i want the encoding guessed for the file when it's opened via double-click (or through the terminal). Note: Guessing the encoding should *not* become the default feature. UTF-8 should remain default. Actually, even on Karmic, this problem disappears if I reinstall Karmic. I believe I had explained that phenomenon. And on other, later releases of Ubuntu, the problem does not seem to occur. In any case, even on Karmic, the problem began occurring after a hard reset. I have not used other releases long enough to have to do a hard reset, therefore my observations are inconclusive there. It never reaches the GUI. And this is not a temporary problem -- it persists through all subsequent reboots of the system. If I log in at the text-mode prompt, become root, and then do the following: service hal start service gdm start then the GUI screen comes back up, and the system is healthy. If I reboot the system again, any number of times, I always face the same need to start hal manually, followed by gdm. The only non-standard things I can think of, in my Ubuntu installation, are (i) my /var/log is on a separate file system, not on the root file system, and (ii) my home dir too is on that separate file system, not on root. Other than these, I do not know of anything else which is non-standard in my case, and I do not know whether these are relevant for this problem or not. This is repeatable. It has happened to myself and a colleague, both using Thinkpad X-series laptops and the exact same Ubuntu version, installed from the same copy of live CD. Both of us have the same separate file system for homedir, logs, etc, with softlinks from the root-fs. Both of us had laptop hangs on different occasions, and had to do a hard reboot. We got this problem after that, and then in my laptop's case, it went away only after I re-formatted the HDD and re-installed Ubuntu again from the CD. gnome-settings-daemon 3.0.2-1ubuntu2 was released on 7 June 2011, the same day as gnome-user-share 3.0.0-2ubuntu1 (which fixed bug 788714). Since then, I have not gotten the crash in this bug, but I have gotten a crash on logout which reminds me of it. He does not like that part of the HIG and several designs in Ubuntu/Ayatana intentionally do not follow that part of the HIG. OK, I think I have a fix for this. I've pushed it to Oneiric.
