[Bug 805937] Re: smbd segfaults at least twice a day

2011-08-07 Thread niallm90
I all so appear to be getting this error. I have enabled 'debug level =
3' in my smb.conf so am waiting for another error to get some more
information. It happens a random amount of times a day. It appears to
happen when you connect to a share or try to open a file on the share. I
have only experienced the problem on Windows 7 client but I don't access
the share often from Ubuntu clients.

[Bug 812847] Re: Importing ubuntu desktop no distro in webui

2011-08-07 Thread Ronen
Im able to import and install the alternate cd using cobbler however
instead of getting a desktop loading Im getting a server (terminal only)
after boot, using the same cd and installing the machine manually does
result with a desktop installed,

I don't know how to make sense of it.

[Bug 812847] Re: Importing ubuntu desktop no distro in webui

2011-08-07 Thread Tom Ellis
The default setup has a preseed file for automated installations for a server
configuration. You can adapt the preseed file to pull in the desktop packages.
You may wish to read:
https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/installation-guide/amd64/appendix-preseed.html
for further information.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 747090 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747090

I use 2.6.38-10-server #46, and have exactly the same problem - restore reboots
the VM.
Everything works as expected with 2.6.35.

So, in my case resolution of #747090 didn't help. Not a duplicate?

[Bug 822167] [NEW] Guake content sticking off the bottom and side of window

2011-08-07 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
Public bug reported:

As can be seen in the attached screenshot, the content of the Guake terminal is
extending past the edges of the window.
I.e. the bottom row of text in my console is hidden, as well as the right edge.

I am going to take a guess that the amount hidden relates directly to
the height of the top bar and width of the launcher in Unity.

I have my launcher set to always be visible.

[Bug 571476] Re: Trim support missing from Linux kernel

2011-08-07 Thread Alex Mandel
I'd just wanted to add that this doesn't only effect laptop/netbook
users. I have a low power server with an SSD (atom 5w) and would love
trim support on that. I also recently bought 2 new rack servers each
with an SSD drive for scientific computing purposes. I'm not terribly
fond of having to use non-LTS server editions (though I'm not sure if
they have as many problems as the non-LTS desktop which tend to have
experimental GUI changes).

Anyone know how safe is it to use officially backported kernels?

[Bug 815114] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::Area::FindKeyFocusArea()

2011-08-07 Thread Andi Albrecht
It seems that I'm able to reproduce it in the following way:

- log into Unity desktop
- hit Alt-F2
- enter a command that opens a window (for me it's a bash script that runs
gnome-terminal attaching to a screen session on a remote machine)

But I'm not really sure yet, that this always brings this bug up

[Bug 822103] Re: program freezes up crashes on large picture

2011-08-07 Thread Martin Renold
The message stands for out of memory while trying to save the file.

MyPaint was trying to create a 3824 x 11072 (127MB) pixbuf, which would
be the size of your image. If your image should have been much smaller,
you probably made some accidental faint strokes while zoomed out. Check
whether your tablet pressure goes to exactly zero when you lift the pen.

The good news: starting with MyPaint 0.9 we no longer allocate such a
large pixbuf while saving, and saving is around 5 to 10 times faster
than 0.8.

The bad news: we still allocate the same sized pixbuf while loading (but
drop it after). And people still occasionally report out of memory when
working with huge images.

[Bug 696454] Re: NBD booted clients don't close the connection on shutdown

2011-08-07 Thread Schöner , Axel
The problem is, that in /etc/rc0.d and /etc/rc6.d are faulty links:
S34nbd-client - ../init.d/nbd-client.
The correct links should look like this: K59nbd-client -
../init.d/nbd-client.

The solution is very easy:
update-rc.d -f nbd-client remove
update-rc.d nbd-client start 41 S . stop 59 0 6 .

The package-maintainer should correct it.

[Bug 812638] Re: video problems with Thinkpad T420s integrated intel graphics

2011-08-07 Thread John Bender
I should note at least two more things:

1. I am running Natty, not using the linux-lts-backport-natty package,
but I had a hard time figuring out how to apply it to the larger
project. If someone could do this I think it would be helpful.

2. After a suspend and wake the laptop screen flickers slightly on
either the left 2/3s or the right 1/3.

[Bug 820842] Re: Minimal memory requirement (512MB) too low to install Ubuntu Desktop in a VM

2011-08-07 Thread Steve Langasek
The original report says that this was with Kubuntu. Are the minimal
memory requirements for a kubuntu install different than for an ubuntu
install? There were certainly reports at release time of 512MB being
sufficient for an Ubuntu desktop install. Are the requirements
different on real hardware vs. a VM? Is this using the 'Install' or
'Try' boot option? Is it only reproducible with manual partitioning?
Does the manual partitioning selection include allocating swap space?

It can be, that your problem is other then mine, then the bugs should be

The problem here was, that the client booted over nfs doesn't close the
connection to the nbd-server when rebooting or shutdown.

[Bug 822184] [NEW] left sidebar changes size if automatic import starts

2011-08-07 Thread Jan Schuermann
Public bug reported:

the left sidebar changes size if automatic import starts but should stay
fixed.

1. resize the sidebar to something narrow and wait until shotwell starts to
update the library
2. the sidebar gets wider as soon as the import progress-bar appears

i think this is a bug, the sidebar-size should stay fixed in the position the
user chooses
for me it only has to be slim so i have more room for thumbails...

** Affects: shotwell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I have downloaded the live desktop CD (alpha 3) for Oneiric Ocelot (11.10) and
booted this in live mode.
Thunderbird is now the default email client.

I tried to install Evolution using the software center. Unfortunately

This is a problem even in natty. I do not remember if 10.10 had it but it was a

[Bug 822194] [NEW] Grub2 Does Not Automatically Chain Load Other Unix Distribution

2011-08-07 Thread PC
Public bug reported:

This may be a small issue in some ways, but I don't think it is the best
behaviour.

Ubuntu 11.04 installed and working find. It chain loads Windows 7
fine.

I then installed Fedora 15 and installed the boot loader for Fedora on
its root partition. I then went back and booted into Ubuntu and ran a
grub update. It found the Fedora installation and added an entry to the
Ubuntu grub boot loader, but linked directly to the Fedora kernel, and
not to the Fedora grub boot loader.

This is now an issue in another way as I have been asked to check
something on the Ubuntu 11.10 (alpha 3) release. In Live mode I cannot
seem to do this. It would be nice to be able to install this (alpha3)
without affecting my existing installation, and to be able to chain load
to this development version.

So in summary I think it would be best if when grub update is run it
links to any boot loader on a root partition it can find, rather than
directly to kernels on that partition. I expect there are manual work
arounds, so I guess it is not an urgent issue.

Otherwise all working well, please keep up the good work.

[Bug 696454] Re: NBD booted clients don't close the connection on shutdown

2011-08-07 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
My problem is that my *root* file system is mounted with NBD and it's
still in use when the NBD initscript tries to unmount it.

If I understood your problem correctly, you're saying that NBD doesn't try at
all to unmount your NBD-mounted dirs?
If so, then I agree that your problem is not the same as mine, so better file a
different bug report for it, and describe how you are mounting your NBD dirs in
the first place.

[Bug 812638] Re: video problems with Thinkpad T420s integrated intel graphics

and

I was rewarded with a mostly working video setup, though with the 3.0.1
kernel there was some odd behavior as well. Hopefully I''m not clouding
the issue here. Again, I'm happy to try anything you guys have in mind.

Dear Adam,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply.
Is there any ETA for an implementation?
One would expect this to work, also to command line, since all other apps I

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Kind regards,

[Bug 820810] Re: After upgrading from 10.04 system would not boot

2011-08-07 Thread Arkadiy Kulev
Phillip, you are exactly right. I just remembered that there was another
bug during the installation of 10.04.1 - I was installing from a USB

/dev/mapper/isw_ecdhgaacgh_Volume0, so I had to do some tricks in the
