Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

and reading its default configuration /etc/dhcpd.conf (regardless of how
dhcpd.conf was generated). The isc-dhcp-server init script takes care
of these details and ensures the daemon is being started with the
correct defaults (which also use /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf instead of
/etc/dhcpd.conf)

Furthermore, the location of the Cobbler generated dhcpd.conf appears to
not even be configurable anymore (since natty, at least). Instead,
cobbler contains logic to determine where to put this based on distro
and relies on distro supplied init scripts to the rest:

/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/cobbler/utils.py:

def dhcpconf_location(api):
version = api.os_version
if version[0] in [ redhat, centos ] and version[1]  6:
return /etc/dhcpd.conf
elif version[0] in [ fedora ] and version[1]  11:
return /etc/dhcpd.conf
else:
return /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf

[Bug 830084] Re: fsdev is not supported by this qemu build

2011-08-24 Thread Andrea Corbellini
I built kvm with libattr1-dev on my PPA and fsdev works perfectly.

I'll try to get the fix into Oneiric/Debian unstable and maybe propose
an SRU in my spare time during the next days.

[Bug 829250] Re: datapath dkms module does't built automaticly

2011-08-24 Thread Simon Déziel
Regarding the DKMS build error, it seems to be related to the following
entries in the changelog :

- configure option --with-l26 has been renamed --with-linux, and
  --with-l26-source has been renamed --with-linux-source. The old
  names will be removed after the next release, so please update
  your scripts.
- The -2.6 suffix has been dropped from the datapath/linux-2.6 and
  datapath/linux-2.6/compat-2.6 directories.

[Bug 831628] Re: squid upstart script doesn't check for filesystems

2011-08-24 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hmm I wonder if this is what I'm seeing, I run a local squid on my
desktop (and push apt through it so that all my machines only download
once).

In the last few weeks of oneiric I've noticed accesses to squid after
boot, hang until it's restarted.

There is a squid process:

but the only log file that's changing is the /v/l/squid/cache.log that
has:

[Bug 833475] [NEW] /etc/qemu-ifup /etc/qemu-ifdown assume the wrong location for brctl

2011-08-24 Thread David Medberry

[Bug 833475] Re: /etc/qemu-ifup /etc/qemu-ifdown assume the wrong location for brctl

2011-08-24 Thread David Medberry
I suspect adding a dependency on bridge-utils may help in preventing
more bugs like this.

I also see that /etc/qemu-ifup (and down) are symlinks to /usr/bin/qemu-
ifup (and down).

[Bug 833499] [NEW] virt/disk.py unconditionally inserts public_keys into /root/.ssh/authorized_keys

2011-08-24 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

When cloud-init runs, it populates root's .ssh/authorized_keys with an entry
like:
no-port-forwarding,no-agent-forwarding,no-X11-forwarding,command=echo 'Please
login as the user \ubuntu\ rather than the user \root\.';echo;sleep 10
ssh-rsa AdLQ0= nova@dziban

That blocks login as root with that key, and provides the user with a
message saying to login as the ubuntu user instead.

This is a security choice made by Ubuntu, and nova is overriding that
choice by inserting the key into /root/.ssh/authorized_keys when the
image is being built.

Personally, I think that disks provided to nova should be provided to
the guest 100% unmodified in all cases, but at very least, this needs to
be configurable.

Re: [Bug 829628] Re: [FFE] Add cgroup-lite package

2011-08-24 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting StefanPotyra (stefan.pot...@informatik.uni-erlangen.de):

Thanks for looking, Stefan.

 This looks odd:

 +cd /sys/fs/cgroup
 +for d in `/bin/ls`; do

 + umount $d || true
 +done

Thanks for drawing my attention to this. This is indeed a problem. As
an example, I did:

(as root) mount --bind /dev/pts /mnt
(as serge) (cd /sys/fs/cgroup; ln -s /mnt)
(as root) umount /sys/fs/cgroup/mnt

and /mnt got umounted.

Of course serge shouldn't have been able to create a link under /sys/fs/cgroup
in the first place. Stephane, I'm actually out this week, I'll push a fix next
week, but if you have time to post a debdiff this week, that'd be great.

As for the for d in `/bin/ls`; do bit, what exactly looks odd about it? I do
it all the time by hand, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be changed here...

I had considered specifying a (configurable) list of cgroups to mount,
and then only umount those. I.e.

CGROUPS=memory devices cpu freezer

at top of the upstart job. Maybe 'all' option which then grabs all from 'cat
/proc/cgroups.  Would that be preferable?

 Is the following sufficient (no clue really, I've never been too intimate
 with upstart scripts)?
 +start on mounted MOUNTPOINT=/sys

The cgroups get mounted under /sys/fs/cgroup, and have no userspace
dependencies, so it should be sufficient.

 apart from that, I don't see if any mentioned bugs have been forwarded
 to upstream. Can you shed some light here please? Seeing upstream

The bug about cgclear failing (so that the job fails to stop, and the
package can't be removed) was mentioned upstream, but I don't believe
they've pushed a patch for it yet. They announced in the last few days
that they expect all functionality to be pulled into systemd, and therefore
will stop developing.

 response (or even lack thereof) would certainly help to sort this
 request.

Note we don't intend to stop support of cgroup-bin (now), and want to fix
those bugs. However, some of the bugs are hard, and some I argue are
impossible, due to design flaws: the kernel cgroup API simply does not
provide for a race-free way for a daemon to reliably reclassify programs
as they start up.

This is an important point. It is why the libcgroup upstream is moving
the functionality into systemd. For us, the functionality belongs in
upstart (for initialization and service startup) and pam (for logins).

 If the issue at hand was only boot speed, I'd probably wave through this
 request as all changes look sensible to me.

IMO it's both boot speed and not running extraneous daemons on your
system.

thanks for your time,
-serge

[Bug 764414] Re: private master bugs are confusing and lead to more duplicate filings

2011-08-24 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
Please take as an example #829741 and #827164 (both public) which were
filed as a duplicate of #832029 (private!) by Apport retracing
service. The reminder window in the two original bug says that it is a
duplicate, and you should only comment when you think it is wrong. But
without seeing the master bug report this is not possible.

Furthermore it is strange that (judging from the bug numbers) Apport
retracing service prefers the newer+private bug in favor of the
older+public bug reports in this case.
