[Bug 884908] Re: Package dependencies need work
** Description changed: SRU Justification (Marc Cluet) - TEST CASE: - 1. Install mcollective-middleware, it won't install mcollective - 2. Install mcollective-clients, some of the plugins will fail due to the lack of rubygems, libsystemu-ruby or ruby-json + TEST CASE 1: + 1. sudo apt-get install mcollective-middleware + 2. mcollective is not installed - it should be as this package wraps mcollective and rabbitmq into a single installable unit. + + TEST CASE 2: + 1. sudo apt-get install mcollective-client + 2. sudo mc-find-hosts - will fail with the following error message: + + /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1:in `require': no such file to load -- rubygems (LoadError) + from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1 + from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3:in `require' + from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3 REGRESSION POTENTIAL: It's just adding missing dependencies, regression potential almost 0 since we don't incur in any other changes. COURSE OF ACTION FOR ONEIRIC: Add the missing dependencies. 1. Add mcollective in mcollective-middleware package so it installs the missing daemon - 2. Add rubygems, libsystemu-ruby or ruby-json on mcollective-clients package in order to + 2. Add rubygems, libsystemu-ruby or ruby-json on mcollective-clients package in order to fullfil missing dependencies SRU Justification This is actually a bug report for mcollective, mcollective-middleware and mcollective-client. The package dependencies need to be looked at because as they stand now on Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric, they are not correct. What I have discovered so far is: mcollective-middleware need to depend on mcollective, otherwise the directory /etc/mcollective is not created. At least mcollective-client needs to depends on 'rubygems'. Without it you receive the following: $ mc-find-hosts /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1:in `require': no such file to load -- rubygems (LoadError) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1 from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3:in `require' from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3 I believe mcollective-middleware also needs to depend on rubygems, because the above error was replaced with silence after installing rubygems. Once I restarted the mcollective service, silence was replaced with the correct functionality. Please let me know if you need more information. [Bug 894047] Re: Fansensor unavailable under Ubuntu 11.10 on Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express
Sensors-detect _ # sensors-detect revision 5946 (2011-03-23 11:54:44 +0100) # System: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 1005HA (laptop) This program will help you determine which kernel modules you need to load to use lm_sensors most effectively. It is generally safe and recommended to accept the default answers to all questions, unless you know what you're doing. Some south bridges, CPUs or memory controllers contain embedded sensors. Do you want to scan for them? This is totally safe. (YES/no): yes Module cpuid loaded successfully. Silicon Integrated Systems SIS5595... No VIA VT82C686 Integrated Sensors... No VIA VT8231 Integrated Sensors...No AMD K8 thermal sensors... No AMD Family 10h thermal sensors... No AMD Family 11h thermal sensors... No AMD Family 12h and 14h thermal sensors... No Intel digital thermal sensor... Success! (driver `coretemp') Intel AMB FB-DIMM thermal sensor... No VIA C7 thermal sensor...No VIA Nano thermal sensor... No Some Super I/O chips contain embedded sensors. We have to write to standard I/O ports to probe them. This is usually safe. Do you want to scan for Super I/O sensors? (YES/no): yes Probing for Super-I/O at 0x2e/0x2f Trying family `National Semiconductor'... No Trying family `SMSC'... No Trying family `VIA/Winbond/Nuvoton/Fintek'... No Trying family `ITE'... No Probing for Super-I/O at 0x4e/0x4f Trying family `National Semiconductor'... No Trying family `SMSC'... No Trying family `VIA/Winbond/Nuvoton/Fintek'... No Trying family `ITE'... No Some hardware monitoring chips are accessible through the ISA I/O ports. We have to write to arbitrary I/O ports to probe them. This is usually safe though. Yes, you do have ISA I/O ports even if you do not have any ISA slots! Do you want to scan the ISA I/O ports? (YES/no): yes Probing for `National Semiconductor LM78' at 0x290... No Probing for `National Semiconductor LM79' at 0x290... No Probing for `Winbond W83781D' at 0x290... No Probing for `Winbond W83782D' at 0x290... No Lastly, we can probe the I2C/SMBus adapters for connected hardware monitoring devices. This is the most risky part, and while it works reasonably well on most systems, it has been reported to cause trouble on some systems. Do you want to probe the I2C/SMBus adapters now? (YES/no): no Now follows a summary of the probes I have just done. Just press ENTER to continue: Driver `coretemp': * Chip `Intel digital thermal sensor' (confidence: 9) To load everything that is needed, add this to /etc/modules: #cut here # Chip drivers coretemp #cut here If you have some drivers built into your kernel, the list above will contain too many modules. Skip the appropriate ones! Do you want to add these lines automatically to /etc/modules? (yes/NO)yes Successful! Monitoring programs won't work until the needed modules are loaded. You may want to run 'service module-init-tools start' to load them. Unloading cpuid... [Bug 607039] Re: NFS4 automount using replicated servers doesn't work
@Steve, this seems actually already to be addressed. Unfortunately in a way that is easy to get wrong. The nfs module would for example be autoloaded when the idmapd gets started. And the /etc/default/nfs-common comments clearly say it should be needed for v4. However one seems to be able to get a mount done without it being set to yes. (Probably running into other issues later). It would be good if there would be a way to get those things right in a simpler way. But I cannot think of a good one right now. Should mount.nfs4 start required daemons? But then that may miss sensible configuration... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607039 Title: NFS4 automount using replicated servers doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autofs5/+bug/607039/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 894608] [NEW] Implementing a bridge slows 10G network
Public bug reported: Installing bridge-utils and then setting up a bridge in /etc/netwrok/interfaces decimates my netwrok speed. Uninstalling the package and doing a reboot restores the speed. [Bug 607039] Re: NFS4 automount using replicated servers doesn't work
mount.ntfs4 certainly shouldn't start any daemons, but I would expect it to autoload the nfs4 module the same way it previously autoloaded the nfs module. [Bug 894265] Re: Black screen, sometimes flashing screen when starting ubuntu
Thanks for your bug report. This sounds like a kernel problem to me, so I'll file it against the kernel. Thanks for your bug report. Did your sound work in 11.04? [Bug 880476] Re: after update to kernel 3.0.0-13 ubuntu 11.10 does not start
@NVIDIA users: Andre is right, it has something to do with the graphics driver. I was already on 290.10 but it does not seem to be the version itself. After reinstalling the 3.0.0-13 kernel the boot problem persisted. Then I booted in recovery mode and reinstalled the same NVIDIA driver. After that everything works like a charm. [Bug 894274] [NEW] Bluetooth mouse lag on Dell Notebooks
Public bug reported: My Microsoft Notebook Mouse 5000 (which is a Bluetooth Mouse) is lagging a lot in 2 cases: -On heavy WiFi traffic -More Bluetooth Devices are connected, e.g. a phone. [Bug 894248]
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/894248/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. But I’m not talking about implementing some colorful clickables or display bling. I’m talking about one of the most basic features. So basic it has its own ISO standard. And also about 50 lines of code. Max. What I meant to say is, that if it were my code, and yes I am a professional programmer for 20 years now, I would be ashamed of overlooking something like this. Daniel, Jeremy, please don't feed a possible troll. Just take his badly- worded comment as another ++ vote for the feature and be done with it. Navid, please cease and desist from making unhelpful comments. I myself would like to see this bug fixed soon, and I also do not have enough C-knowledge to contribute a patch, and I do occasionally post hello can anybody please fix this bug kind of comments to bug reports, but at least I try to stay polite and *request* something of the developers who obviously have a particular skill which I don't. It is my experience that more often than not, developers are quite polite and at least explain why the bug can't be fixed soon or something like that. Now my polite request: can any of the kind developers fix this bug please? I'm sure with your skills it would be a simple job if someone just allocated a small amount of time to it? After upgrading my Kubuntu system to Oneiric, the ibus stopped working (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/854333) so I'm falling back to XIM which IMHO is much cleaner even if not context-sensitive. Dotan, I'd love to help you learn C. My advise to you is to check out this course at UC Berkeley designed to teach C to students who already know how to program in another language: http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~selfpace/class/cs9c Most of the materials are available online. You just need to buy or borrow the book, and you don't have access to the SPC tutors and obviously don't get a grade or course credit. (In reply to comment #11) I look forward to your 50-line patch then. As I said, I have no intention in learning a language as bad as C. I’d rather rewrite the whole thing in a modern language. And I’d like even more to have someone else do it, while I do some other contribution in return. How about that? :) Well, either we are rubbish programmers with no pride, or are simply too busy with the other 2.532 million (I just checked) lines of code that X has. So you’re essentially suggesting that it’s just extremely bloated? ^^ But hey, there doesn’t have to be a “or”. Usually the latter comes from the former. ;) So what you're saying is that you're not going to help, but instead sit here banging on about pride and how Windows 2000 did it and it's really easy. Helpful! No, (Windows * still sucked). I was saying: Maybe I’ll save 50€ and send them to you to implement it. 1€ a line should be enough, no? ;) But I already see where this is going: Straw man arguments: First you deliberately misinterpret my statements, and then you call me an idiot because of them. Sorry mate, that won’t work. ^^ (In reply to comment #12) Hey Navid, have you learned C yet? Maybe the Navid in your delusional parallel world where I didn’t say I despised C did. Why don’t you check? In all honesty, I don't expect this to be 50 lines, and I don't expect it to be popular enough to demand attention over higher priority issues. Well, if it doesn’t take 50 lines, something is deeply wrong with the code. Then again it’s C and it’s 2.532 million lines of it, so that kinda answers that. ^^ PROTIP: Quick sort in Haskell: qsort (x:xs) = qsort [ i | i - xs, i x ] ++ [x] ++ qsort [ i | i - xs, i = x ] qsort [] = [] 50 lines? Hell yeah! ^^ I have no interest in the typical Internet dicks calling everyone who isn’t fitting their mind a “troll”. So you can fail with your archaic C, bloat, weird priorities and distorted perception until the end of time. Actually it’s a good thing, because the more you’re ignorant of the unfolding reality, the more those who don’t gain an edge over you. So, hey… in a way you’re still helping me. Thanks! [Bug 531190]
From the Gentoo bug report: --- Comment #8 from Lu Ran hephooey_...@fastmail.fm 2011-04-23 19:42:50 UTC --- I have a W510 with amd64 Gentoo, exactly the same anonying bug, I did some research and I think it is a bug in the kernel, though upower handle data differently from hal thus exposed the bug. Here is the problem I find: When I boot up normally, cat /sys/.../BAT0/charge_now gives me something like this: 7517000 cat /sys/../BAT0/charge_full shows 9396000 Use the battery for a while, (I am not sure exactly how to trigger this reliably though), the number beomes 6935 and 9396 Notice the extra 0! However upower only check charge_full once when it starts, now it find energy calculated from charge_now is larger than energy_full calculated from charge_full, it assume energe_full is wrong and replace the value using energy calculated from charge_now.The battery capacity become 100% for a while. Now suspend/resume, the number from charge_now and charge_full becomes normal again, but now upower have a cached energy_full calculated when charge_now is 10 times larger. The capacity upower calculated will hardly be larger than 10%. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531190 Title: upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when AC cable is unplugged To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/devicekit-power/+bug/531190/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

(In reply to comment #2) The importance flag is for the developer to assign priorities, not the reporter. I'm very sorry... It's the first time that I use a bugtracker. Could you please try with upstream versions of upower and gnome-power-manager please, as Ubuntu include lots of patches that are not upstream. You probably want to check to see if there are any BIOS upgrades available. Thanks. I have a EEEPC 901GO with latest BIOS (2103 from ASUS support site) and Ubuntu 10.10 installed from scratch. Every now and then my laptop low battery warning (0% when in reality the battery was freshly charged) and switches off. What logs can help you? I would be very pleased to help you in any way. Well, then ... I really would like to see this issue resolved. [Bug 365943]
Created attachment 40902 Add JumpyCursorThreshold option patch v5 For those touchpads that don't support multi-finger or sending correct finger width, the jumpy cursor problem is still there. One notable example is the ClickPad found on Lenovo S10-3t whose ClickPad suffers from this jumpy cursor problem very severely, because its buttons also have sensible surface thus every time you click a button without lifting another finger from the pad, such as when trying to drag a window or select text, the cursor jumps, and renders the whole touchpad nigh unusable. (if you are wondering why Synaptics driver doesn't enable ClickPad mode and limit the touch area thus ignore ABS sent from button area, it's because those ClickPads send out BTN_LEFT and BTN_RIGHT just as normal touchpads so they don't trigger the ClickPad mode, which is designed for ClickPads that never send BTN_RIGHT) Therefore Alberto Milone's JumpyCursorThreshold option patch is still needed, which is the best solution I've seen so far.
