[Bug 897678] Re: onBoard shifts after changing Language Layout

2011-12-24 Thread katearcher89
Hi!

I havent got time to install snapshots, but currently i've install 96.2
and it works almost completely flawless! Thanks you!

But on the other side I have some thoughts on certain issues that bugs
me (a little but still).

The first one is that on login screen in ubuntu onboard uses default
scheme and there is no way to change it.

The other one is that onboard still do not saves its position and
dimensions(ie position and resize information defined by user during
work session), and its a little annoying to resize it after each
restart.

anyway many thanks for your work, onboard is maybe the best onscreen
keyboard around!

Since Ubuntu 11.04 release we may find in a Software Center something
that perhaps could help. It is xatitv. However any installation is
impossible. The only message we I can find is that a Gatos package is
not in my software sources. I'd love to add it and tried to Google it
out but didn't succeded either;( My Ati TV sleeps useless since an over

[Bug 908352] [NEW] libgpod prevents mounting of ipod classic 80Gb

2011-12-24 Thread Dan Bebber
Public bug reported:

A few weeks ago my 2nd Gen Ipod classic 80Gb stopped being recognized by
Rhythmbox, and would not mount.
When trying to mount the Ipod in Nautilus, the error message Unable to mount
location Internal error: no mount object for mounted volume is given.
Neither Hipo nor gtkpod are able to recognize the ipod.
The Ipod is shown in the Computer folder, however.

Having tried various fixes on various websites, I have found that
completely removing libgpod-common (while leaving libgpod4 installed)
allows the Ipod to be mounted. Also, Rhythmbox is able to detect and
import file info from the ipod, but the ipod doesn't show up as a
separate device.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04
and have libgpod-common 0.8.0-1ubuntu1~lucid1
rhythmbox 0.12.8-0ubuntu7

Given that some functionality returns when I remove libgpod-common, this
seems to indicate a bug.

[Bug 908354] [NEW] tail -0f /var/log/kern.log never prints anything (livecd cow overlayfs)

2011-12-24 Thread Tuomas Heino
Public bug reported:

Doing tail -f on /var/log/kern.log (which gets appended every 10 seconds) does
not print anyting.
May be an issue with the livecd / how overlayfs works. In any case tail should
at least complain if underlaying fs does not properly support whatever -f needs
to work (inotify below?):

[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher

2011-12-24 Thread SRoesgen
@Tal Liron
I already mentioned that strange new Multi Monitor concept before. But up to
now, there has not been any comment/answer to that.

@Fernando
As I said before I was happy that all of the last comments were not about
leaving Unity behind but instead focused on bringing forward valid arguments of
why to make the launcher movable.
So please do not start the Unity bashing again. Next people will again start to
discuss which desktop environment is the better one. That is not what we need.
Running away from a really big problem, by switching from Unity to XFCE will
not change anything and will not bring up a solution for the problem.
Most of those people who posted their comments here and discussed the issues
(Pros and Cons) of a movable launcher want Unity because it is a good idea and,
therefore, I suppose most of them like Unity. If you do not like Unity then
this is your choice and it is ok for me as long as you do not start using this
bug report as a platform to advertise a different desktop environment (be it
xfce, ldx, gnome shell or whatever).

[Bug 810732] Re: Netatalk shows kernel panic in syslog when trying to connect to server in OS X 10.6.8. Worked fine before upgrade to ocelot

2011-12-24 Thread Rachel Greenham
After months of successful operation under oneiric, serving several Lion
clients, this problem hit me just now out of the blue, symptoms and log
exactly as described above. The only thing I can think of that's changed
in the timeframe since I last knew for sure it was working, is that I
set up samba as well on the same server to serve one of the same shared
volumes to a windows VM. No, I can't think of any reason why that should
affect things, it's just all that's been changed on the server in the
timeframe, so mentioning it in case anyone goes aha! :-)

The workaround in #12 (ie: changing to uams_dhx2_password.so in
afpd.conf) seems to be working for me, at least for now... Didn't do any
of the other stuff - removing .AppleDB .Appletalk etc. (though things
are configured to try to minimize them anyway), or reinstalling netatalk
from source.

NB: this is netatalk 2.2~beta4-1 on fully-updated oneiric 64-bit.

Tuomas Heino wrote:

 May be an issue with the livecd / how overlayfs works. In any case tail
 should at least complain if underlaying fs does not properly support whatever
 -f needs to work (inotify below?):

 open(/var/log/kern.log, O_RDONLY) = 3
 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0640, st_size=1095, ...}) = 0
 lseek(3, 0, SEEK_CUR)   = 0

 f_fsid={0, 0}, f_namelen=255, f_frsize=4096}) = 0
 inotify_init()  = 4
 inotify_add_watch(4, /var/log/kern.log,
 IN_MODIFY|IN_ATTRIB|IN_DELETE_SELF|IN_MOVE_SELF) = 1
 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0640, st_size=1095, ...}) = 0

Thanks for the report.
In upstream coreutils development I've just made a change to fix that:
if the type of FS is unknown, it uses polling rather than inotify.

What does this print for that system?

$ stat -f --format %t:%T /var/log

If it is a new non-local file system type, then we should add it
to stat.c's table.

In the mean time, you can use tail's deliberately undocumented
---disable-inotify option.

[Bug 908365] [NEW] Desktop is shown when user comes back when screenlock/blank is activated

2011-12-24 Thread Gabriel
Public bug reported:

When I either lock the screen or it locks by itself (and goes blank),
when I come back and move the mouse is shows the desktop open windows
for about a second before it blanks again and then asks for the
password. This started happening with Ubuntu 11.04 after an upgrade from
10.10; I was hoping it would go away with an upgrade to 11.10 but this
was not the case.

Here is the info you asked for:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10

$ apt-cache policy gnome-screensaver
gnome-screensaver:
  Installed: 3.2.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.2.0-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What is expected:
1) The screen goes blank locks
2) The user comes back and moves the mouse
3) The screen stays blank and the password dialog comes up, the user does not
see anything else

What happens:
1) The screen goes blank locks
2) The user comes back and moves the mouse
3) The screen shows the desktop for a second (and any windows open at the
time), then it blanks again and shows the password dialog.

I believe this is a security issue too, although one could argue a small
one, but it allows someone who has physical access to the PC to see the
screen for a second even when it is locked. I will not flag is as a
security issue though, I'll let the Ubuntu team decide if if is
considered one by their standards.

contents:

audio_folders=MUSIC/
video_folders=VIDEO/
podcast_folders=PODCASTS/
folder_depth=2
output_formats=audio/mpeg,audio/x-aac,audio/x-ms-wma,video/mpeg,video/mp4

This sorted out my X series in Banshee.

[Bug 908368] [NEW] Headphones are selected by default on boot

2011-12-24 Thread James Elian
Public bug reported:

Every time I boot and log in, headphones are selected as the output
device, even without any headphones being plugged in. This essentially
means that I need to switch to speakers manually in sound settings -

it.

about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/908365/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 908387] [NEW] Module aesni_intel not being loaded before mounting LVM2 stacked on LUKS

2011-12-24 Thread Filiprino
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I've made an installation of Ubuntu 11.10 on a system with AES-NI instructions
only to find that the aesni_intel module is not being loaded before mounting
the root file system, leaving the system with software encryption instead of
using the hardware capabilities.

The problem I think it's due to the modules not existing on the
initramfs. Naturally, aes_x86_64 and cryptd modules aren't loaded too.

Having the kernel compiled with options
CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES=y
CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES_X86_64=y
CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES_NI_INTEL=y

instead of

CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES=y
CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES_X86_64=m
CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES_NI_INTEL=m

as it appears on config-3.0.0-14-generic in the /boot directory should
be OK too.

I can manually load those modules after the system boots, but then it's
not useful for my fully encrypted filesystem.

  Result: nothing happens, although global menu shows desktop has focus.
- Workaround: Left click on desktop enables to switch workspace.

There is different focus management.
Setup: laptop, unity and wall-plugin, conky window_type normal.
By left click on conky global menu says 'desktop' or 'workspace' (can use both
terms when translated from german 'Arbeitsfläche'.)

Setup: desktop-pc, unity and cube, conky window_type normal.
By left click on conky global menu says 'conky'.

This is dangerous because users can assume the behaviour is the same as
in Nautilus.

This may apply to other Operating Systems. E.g not moving deleted files
to Recycle Bin in Windows.

Although I think a warning box has been added it is not made absolutely
clear that this is a permanent deletion (as you get in Nautilus when you
use Shift-Delete).

Will test 3.5 when it is available in Ubuntu, or if 3.5 can be installed

By importing a document (a HTML file named as .XLS or .HTML) with lots (more

The issue can be reproduced by importing attached file into calc. On my machine
it imports just 13635 of the 2 rows.

LibreOffice 3.3.2  – WIN7  Home Premium  (64bit) German UI [OOO330m19

I saw a lot of documents with name extension .xls having nothing to do
with an EXCEL spreadsheet, the user or his application only used that
name because of somehow table contents.

To be honest, I do not know much about EXCEL HTML document, except that
it is a mess to work with them. Imho that's an EXCEL problem, EXCEL
should create documents with correct syntax.

Reporter's sample is no correct html, although source text is pretending to be
html. At least html type information is missing.
I'ts also not an EXCEL type spreadsheet.

MS EXCEL viewer will not open that document.

Some other observations:
OOo3.1.1. (from open WRITER document) will by default open the document as
WRITER-HTML document in writer with correct table view until A12800, then
table view stops and strings from table will be shown as endless plain text
line.
I can force OOo to open the document as html-calc, then it will open the
document as spreadsheet, E13105 is the latest content shown correctly, then
table formatting breaks.

Exactly the same with OOo-dev 3.4

My result:
My aversion against such documents has nothing to do with the reported problem,
LibO should reject the document or open it correctly (may be with a warning
message). Low priority, imprtant data should be exported to a document with
correct syntax, that's a problem of the application creating such documents.

@Marco:
You get such documents from what application?

I have found presentation with this problem in presentation created with

In this presentation is frame with some text on belorussian. In MSOffice
2003 text is red. In LibreOffice text is black when open pptx file.

IMHO MSOffice saves objests two in one, in this case text and picture in
one object. And LibreOffice shows only one part of object.

This produced on LibreOffice 3.4 beta 5 using Mandriva 64 bit and
Windows XP 32 bit

Cell with dimensions exceeding screen dimensions impossible to work
with.

Do you agree?

Please file Bug reports with status UNCONFIRMED if your are not

Yes, this two bugs are connected. But they are different.

My bug specify that scrolling is always jumpy.
Bug 34689 is in impossibility to scroll large cells.

If smooth scrolling will be implemented, both bugs will be closed.

Closing Bug 34689 may be implemented in another way.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2
prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

3) What is expected to happen is when one performs via the Terminal:

firefox
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/350193/+attachment/516406/+files
/test-data.html  localc -nologo

secondary click the center of the table in Firefox - click Select All
- secondary click the center of the table in Firefox - click Copy -
in Calc secondary click cell C7 - click Paste

it does so quickly and successfully.

4) What happens instead is that it hangs Calc for a long time (15
seconds - 3 minutes) then pastes or hangs Calc indefinitely.
