[Bug 497258] Re: vmbuilder fails when adding package 'ubuntu-desktop'

2012-01-21 Thread Andy Balaam
Apologies - mine seems to be a different problem - I am not using
--addpkg ubuntu-desktop but I am getting a similar error message:

VMBuilder.exception.VMBuilderException: Process (['umount',
'/tmp/tmpTuNycd/dev']) returned 1. stdout: , stderr: umount:
/tmp/tmpTuNycd/dev: device is busy.
(In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1))

I was having the same problem, and Taco's fix worked for me too. Note I
needed to edit the dapper.py file even though I was creating a lucid VM.

[Bug 919730] [NEW] Access network with windows 7

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

To summarise, I am connecting to the network with a windows 7 laptop via a
secure wireless WPA-PSK (TKIP) and I am unable to open folders on the ubuntu
machine but folders on a Windows XP machine can be opened
When I use an unsecure wireless connection to the Win 7 machine via a powerline

When I connect an ethernet cable via powerline and close the wireless link I
again get full access.

I am connected to a Thomson Speedtouch ST585v6s1 wireless router

Re: [Bug 919068] Re: bridge_ports all doesn't work at boot time

2012-01-21 Thread Daniel Senderowicz
I did remove completely resolvconf, including the configuration files
and the problem persists. The output of sudo ifdown -a sudo ifup
-a is:

Waiting for br0 to get ready (MAXWAIT is 32 seconds).
ssh stop/waiting
ssh start/running, process 3014

and the network comes up. One more piece of information, before running
this command, I'm able to connect to machines on my LAN (e.g.
192.168.xxx.xxx) but not outside.

Thanks,

Daniel

Based on your forum post, one problem is your use of resolvconf which is
far from good and well working in Ubuntu 11.10, it's been fixed in
 12.04.

You may want to completely remove resolvconf from your system and see if that
 helps.
If you still don't have network after removing resolvconf and rebooting, I'd
be interesting in the output of sudo ifdown -a sudo ifup -a.

[Bug 899159] Re: [snb-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b009004 [Needs mesa 7.11+git]

2012-01-21 Thread Hernando Torque
Just updated to the xorg-edgers PPA (mesa
8.0.0~git20120110.5a7c3433-0ubuntu0sarvatt), and the situation got a lot
worse. The game that originally produced the 7b009004 hangs, then (not
sure why) started to only produce 0x7a02 hangs, now produces
0x7a03 hangs - one after another. I cannot do anything inside the
game, it's black screen → screen recovers → black screen → screen
recovers → ... Attaching the error state file.

The native Unigine benchmark linked to in #11 (produced 0x7a02
hangs) now won't even start:

BTW does anyone experience similar problems with gedit window (large

[Bug 919570] [NEW] Appearance of maximized windows makes menubar ownership amiguous

2012-01-21 Thread Denis Washington
Public bug reported:

Currently (with Unity 5.0 on Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha), maximizing a window
leads to the window being visually merged with the top bar. This makes
sense as long as the maximized window is focused, as the title and menus
shown in the top bar are the ones belonging to the window. However,
focusing an unmaximized window while having a maximized window open
leads to the unfortunate situation that the top bar shows the
title/menubar of the unmaximized window, while the visuals suggest that
they actually belong to the maximized one. (The attached image shows the
problem.)

Thus, it would be good if an unmaximized window and the top bar only
appeared as a single visual unit while the window is focused, and less
connected if not, to make window title / menubar ownership clear and
less confusing.

[Bug 880702] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't shut down like previous versions

2012-01-21 Thread nh_linux
After all this trouble of not being able to shutdown from the GUI, I
discovered in Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome, the shutdown features were
intact! They weren't missing, right from the start! I verified that in
KDE which I installed a while ago. In Gnome, the gear on the top right,
next to the user name was missing! In the root desktop, the gear
containing the shutdown function was next to root! That worked fine
also! In order to shut down I had to put the mouse-pointer into the top
right corner and the drop-down menu with Shutdown included amongst
other choices were all displayed! I'd click on shutdown and another
window popped up. Shutdown and restart were options. Worked nicely.
Looks like there was no shutdown bug at all!

[Bug 892776] Re: notify-osd bar doesn't work correctly when adjusting brightness on a Dell Latitude D630 ATG

2012-01-21 Thread Alessandro Lazzari
Mostly solved after updating kernel to version 3.0.0-15
Now, the only small issue is that the OSD has many more notches than the screen
has actual brightness levels.
This is noticeable only when lowering brightness, though. When raising it, it
is mostly sync'ed correctly.

[Bug 883912] Re: Please compile bluez with Wiimote support

2012-01-21 Thread Tyrael
For oneiric there is a discrepancy with the changelog:
bluez (4.96-1) unstable; urgency=low
[...]
- Add new plugins (proximity, sap, wiimote, thermometer, dbusoob).
[...]

That should be fixed (removing the wiimote feature from the changelog or
recompiling with --enable-wiimote) for Oneiric.
(I'm using 3.2 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ but I know
that I'm not the common case)

IMHO this should be fixed absolutely for precise (that has 3.2 kernel)
and for the Ubuntu TV (wiimote working out-of-the-box would be a nice
feature).

[Bug 857153]

2012-01-21 Thread Chris Coulson
For distributions based on GNOME 3.4, I don't think there is really a
good workaround.

For distributions based on GNOME 3.2, this shouldn't be a problem
because there is a GSettings - GConf bridge which works fine (well, it
works fine in Ubuntu at the moment. I'm not sure about other distros).
However, this got dropped for GNOME 3.4 here:

[Bug 919579] [NEW] iwlagn performance with Wireless-N 1030

2012-01-21 Thread markdv
Public bug reported:

I have Dell XPS17 laptop with Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1030 (rev
34)
controller and have had problems with the wireless connection since day 1 with
11.10.

After a clean 11.10 install the performance of the wireless connection would
degrade to
unusable levels fairly quickly. Symptoms where slow b/g transfer rates,
even though iwconfig would show N connection speeds, and high latencies
causing
problems with DNS lookups.

Google told me to try to disable N by loading the module with
11n_disable=1
and/or try the latest firmware. I tried both. The new firmware didn't help at
all.
Disabling N speeds helped but I was still plagued by latencies sometimes going
up into 200ms+ range making the network sluggish. Reloading the iwlagn module
would restore the connection temporarily.

[ The firmware version I currently have installed is from
[
http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/iwlwifi/downloads/iwlwifi-6000g2b-ucode-17.168.5.2.tgz
[ Which contains version 17.168.5.2 build 35905.
[ The one in the current linux-firmware is 17.168.5.1 build 33993.

Today I decided to try the latest proposed kernel hoping the iwlagn changes it
contains would fix the problem. Unfortunately not.

The transfer rate still drops to b/g speeds quickly during the first large
network
transfer after reboot or iwlagn reload.
The only improvement is that even though the transfer rate drops, the latency
remains
good.

I can reproduce the problem - i.e. trigger the degradation to b/g speeds -
reliably just
by performing a scp of a file from my home server/router to the laptop. I've
ruled out
problems on the server-side or other network elements by performing the same
transfer
and other tests with other wireless devices on the same network.

I can clearly see it happening by running a ping to the server while running
the scp.
Below is what I observe.

I start pinging my home router/server/etc (linux box).

Sat Jan 21 10:10:14 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=59 ttl=64 time=2.35 ms
Sat Jan 21 10:10:15 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=60 ttl=64 time=2.42 ms
Sat Jan 21 10:10:16 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=61 ttl=64 time=2.41 ms
Sat Jan 21 10:10:17 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=62 ttl=64 time=2.41 ms

I scp a file from router to laptop. Initially transfer-rate is around 7MB/s.
ping times go up a little but this is to be expected:

Sat Jan 21 10:10:18 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=63 ttl=64 time=3.77 ms
Sat Jan 21 10:10:19 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=64 ttl=64 time=7.75 ms

Sat Jan 21 10:10:22 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=67 ttl=64 time=13.6 ms
Sat Jan 21 10:10:23 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=68 ttl=64 time=14.7 ms

Sat Jan 21 10:10:29 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=74 ttl=64 time=105 ms

Ping times already started to increase near the end there. And then suddenly
scp tels me the transfer -stalled-. The ping also stops. And 16 seconds
later everything resumes. Note that aparently no sent packets where lost,
just delayed for 16 seconds:

Sat Jan 21 10:10:46 2012: 64 bytes from ... icmp_req=75 ttl=64 time=16404 ms

[Bug 919577] [NEW] Can't find mbrola voices in standard install path

2012-01-21 Thread aleritty
Public bug reported:

I installed gespeaker and mbrola voices (en1, it3, it4).
Mbrola voices are installed with default path in /usr/share/mbrola/[en1|it3|it4]

From Gespeaker options the default location in the menu is /usr/share and
from that the program can't find voices.
If I change the location in /usr/share/mbrola it's still impossible to find
the voices.

Gespeaker need to be pre-setted in oneiric with the right value to find
mbrola voices

** Affects: gespeaker (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Apologies - mine seems to be a different problem - I am not using

VMBuilder.exception.VMBuilderException: Process (['umount',
'/tmp/tmpTuNycd/dev']) returned 1. stdout: , stderr: umount:
/tmp/tmpTuNycd/dev: device is busy.
(In some cases useful info about processes that use

[Bug 505188]

2012-01-21 Thread David Mathog
Created attachment 55747
Test .ppt and mangled result

1. mangle.ppt is the original drawing created in PPT 2003
2. open mangle.ppt in LOImpress 3.5.0b2
3. add one word to the slide, outside the diagram
4. save as mangle2.ppt
5. exit LOImpress
6. Open mangle2.ppt in LOImpress or PPT 2003

Result: some of the text which was originally horizontal has rotated to
vertical.

3.4.4 release does exactly the same thing.

I just went through a .ppt file I had been using to import .pdf (as a
way of converting SVG drawings) which had been repeatedly opened in
LOImpress 3.4.4. There were numerous examples of mangled diagrams,
mostly text originally rotated by 90 degrees now at -90 degrees, and a
few cases where the rotation was completely lost (not shown). Some of
them were really awful, with text drawn mirrored, possibly the result
of multiple cycles of .ppt open/save in LOImpress. (I have not yet
reproduced that problem.)

Conclusion: it is unsafe to open a .ppt drawing in LOImpress and save
it again in that same format. The only safe way to convert (from PDF)
through LO is to create a fresh .ppt for each diagram imported and then
later move the contents of that .ppt into the main .ppt within Microsoft
PowerPoint. The easy method, doing that conversion in the complete
.ppt opened in LOImpress, results in earlier slides being mangled by
later .ppt saves.

[Bug 505188]

2012-01-21 Thread David Mathog
Created attachment 55744
Screen shot, only example at 90 degrees is incorrect.

Two more observations.

1.

With LOImpress 3.5.0b2 made an odp with text at 89,90, and 91 degrees.
Saved as .ppt
Opened in PowerPoint 2003.

Result: Only the text at 90 degrees is flipped, +/- one degree away is
good enough to avoid the problem. (See the screen snap). Previous
result showed that +/- 45 degrees also not a problem. Suggests that
problem is most likely restricted to multiples of 90 degrees.

2. OpenOffice DEV300m106 does not have this problem when it saves to
.ppt, rotated text stays at the angle it was set to in OOImpress.
