[Bug 498022] Re: Need package for php5 without suhosin patch

2012-01-29 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Debian has no unfortunately dropped suhosin core patches from their php5
packages, see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=657698 .

Best solution IMHO would be to provide both, packages with the suhosin core
patches and without.
Default should be _with_ suhosin core patches and without one could name the
packages like php5-xxx-no-suhosin or so.

Perhaps Debian and Ubuntu can contribute each other a little bith here?

Cheers,
Chris.

[Bug 706354] Re: dpkg-maintscript-helper: warning: environment variable DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_PACKAGE missing

2012-01-29 Thread Robert Yeckley
Thank you, Linux community, for maintaining a well-oiled operating
system for me. I'm a multimedia guy and a musician, I CANNOT go without
decent multimedia encoders/decoders and unified audio drivers for
software. Anyway, I'm just a hack at programming, I'm no expert. I
thought back to my MSDOS days, and applied it to UNIX. Here's the
solution:

1) CHANGE YOUR GLOBAL VARIABLES

/etc/environment
-
PATH=...
DPKG_MAINTVERSION_NAME=Ubuntu
DPKG_MAINTVERSION_PACKAGE=[version of Ubuntu]
-
don't put in the brackets when you fill in version (lucid, maverick, natty,
etc).

2) REBOOT IMMEDIATELY.

3) RUN dpkg-reconfigure -a one more time.

[Bug 889423] Re: 802.3ad bonding not configured correctly

2012-01-29 Thread Stéphane Graber
03:52 stgraber RAOF: hey there
03:53 stgraber RAOF: thanks for accepting the vlan package
03:54 stgraber RAOF: as for the extra delta in the ifenslave-2.6 SRU (one
line change for /run + documentation), the idea was that reverting these just
for the sake of having
a smaller delta isn't probably worth it as indeed the /run
change isn't needed (but won't make any change as /run is a symlink /var/run in
Oneiric already) and
the documentation would just be inaccurate if reverted
03:55 stgraber RAOF: keeping these two changes gives us the advantage of
having an identical package in Oneiric and Precise, making diffing the two
quite a bit easier (if we
start getting more changes in Precise) and so making
debugging easier
03:55 RAOF Fair enough.

[Bug 889423] Re: 802.3ad bonding not configured correctly

2012-01-29 Thread Stéphane Graber
Here's a quick example of how to test the new vlan package:

 - Make sure uml-utilities and vlan are installed
 - Add the following entry to /etc/network/interfaces:
auto eth9.1010
iface eth9.1010 inet static
address 192.168.1.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
 - Create the tap device: tunctl -t eth9
 - Check that the vlan interface has been created and configured correctly:
ifconfig eth9.1010
eth9.1010 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr ce:51:62:98:16:78
  inet addr:192.168.1.1 Bcast:0.0.0.0 Mask:255.255.255.0
  UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
  RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

Prior to this update, vlan interface creation would be racy as it'd depend on
the catch all networking.conf job to initialise eth9.1010 with the race being
that this job would be triggered before eth9 actually exists.

[Bug 824255] Re: network-manager-openconnect can’t prompt for passwords

2012-01-29 Thread Leonid Evdokimov
I've written following script to connect to OpenVPN. There was one
quirck in my setup, nmcli needed access to nm-applet, another trouble
was router reboot: router sets up WLAN long before it connects to
internet, so I added ping-check.

You can grab my script at https://github.com/darkk/home/blob/master/bin

mandriva patches against xdm 1.1.8

XDM lacks consolekit support. This results in various problem when XDM
is used to login into desktop: for example, DBus messages are blocked by
PolicyKit.

I found a set of patches from KDM adapted to XDM in Mandriva SRPMS, but
I wonder why they are not upstreamed.

None that I know of. But I am afraid I don't understand consolekit
very well. I did the patch upon request, based on kde3 kdm's patches.

But I was told it is working correctly.

While I don't understand what all the changes in those patches are for,
I do understand the GPLv2 header in the new consolekit files - X.Org does
not accept any GPL licensed code in our apps, so these patches will not
be acceptable until relicensed under an MIT-style license.

From a technical standpoint:
- 0004-Support-kdm-extended-syntax-to-reserve-a-server-for.patch
   - is this really needed for consolekit? This seems unrelated.

-0005-Initialize-the-greeter-only-after-checking-if-the-th.patch
   - seems reasonable, though I wonder about side-effects in people's
setup scripts, if any assumed the xdm greeter window was displayed first

-0006-Ass-console-kit-support-to-xdm.patch
   - I might make this a bit less #ifdef heavy, but it seems okay

-consolekit-xdm/0007-Add-files-required-by-consolekit-support.patch
   - I don't know enough dbus or consolekit to comment on most of this
   - The /proc/%d/stat section would need to be #ifdef linux

Untrue as both ArchLinux and Gentoo are carrying custom patch to enable
native ConsoleKit support in XDM too.

[Bug 889585] Re: Audacious is pretty outdated in Ubuntu repositories (new upstream release: audacious 3.2)

2012-01-29 Thread Doug McMahon
The audacious 3.2.1 source used in Precise will compile with Precise's
version of libavcodec, you just need to alter the configure
configure.ac to reflect current version difference.

Tested works just fine here on 12.04, considering Precise is unlikely to use
a source newer than 3.2.1 should only take a min. to fix if any one actually
cares to.

[Bug 905886] Re: mythtv-setup.real crashed with SIGSEGV in QVariant::QVariant()

2012-01-29 Thread pdf
Okay, this is a packaging problem - /usr/share/mythtv/i18n/mythfrontend*
needs to be split out from mythfrontend, put into a separate package,
and both mythtv-backend and mythtv-frontend then need to depend on it.
In the short term, installing mythtv-frontend allows mythtv-setup to
work.

[Bug 791074] Re: blur plugin messes up window shadows

2012-01-29 Thread ugtar
I tried removing the unity plugin, and now the blur plugin works nicely
like it always did, as well as window decoration shadows. It seems like
there is some issue when both the unity plugin and the blur plugin are
loaded in compizconfig.

I'm not running a frankenstein configuration that closely matches unity
except blur is working correctly. I run unity2d, and then I run compiz
--replace (as a startup script). I have the unity compiz plugin
disabled.

[Bug 922691] Re: Scanner not reconized - Brother DCP-195C

2012-01-29 Thread Michael Nagel
Hi there,

thank you for filing this bug and showing your interest in Simple Scan!

This seems to be a Hardware Issue, i.e. Simple Scan does not support
your scanner perfectly -- or possibly not at all.

Unfortunately such problems happen more often then they should, and while it
might indeed be a problem with Simple Scan, in our experience, most of the time
it is not.
This is why we prepared a check-list at [1] that will let you find out whether
or not it really is a problem with Simple Scan and what your options are in
either case.

Please read that list and tell us how you decided to proceed. I will set
this bug to Incomplete, so a friendly robot will expire this bug in 60
days if you do not respond. However, we would really prefer to hear back
from you!

Best Regards
Michael

[Bug 853431] Re: Error with Canon LiDe 30

2012-01-29 Thread Michael Nagel
I am not saying your scanner is broken. With hardware issue I mean it is
related to the cooperation between your scanner and Ubuntu and its
drivers. Using another scanner (other make and model!) would solve the
problem.

First step for locating the problem is to try xsane and to post the usb
id, ... as mentioned in the wiki I linked.

[Bug 923276] [NEW] back and forward button background look out of place with accessibility themes

2012-01-29 Thread Robert Roth
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) From System Settings-.User Interface- Appearance set either HighContrast or
HighContrastInverse as the theme
2) Observe the back and forward buttons background
Expected:
The background should be the same color as the toolbar's color
What happens:
The background color of the buttons is inverted: either light (if the toolbar
background is dark) or dark (if the toolbar background is light).
See the screenshot attached:

Any idea on what could be done to get the package into Ubuntu?
(or, if I understand well, to get the plplot package into
Debian testing) I have no idea on how the Debian's testing
workflow goes... but gdl 0.9.2 was released on November 9th 2011
- almost three months ago - and Ubuntu is virtually the only major
distro not offering the current version to users, and actually
it has almost become a tradition in Ubuntu :(

Best regards,
Sylwester

[Bug 923285] [NEW] X freeze with nouveu when doing intensive tasks

2012-01-29 Thread Ayke van Laethem
Public bug reported:

When doing certain tasks, X freezes when nouveau is in use. (nvidia is
not used, I know that because switching to a tty is fast and the tty has
the right font size). This happens maybe one or two times a day when
doing certain tasks. This time I changed the display settings in
xfce4-display settings: rotation from 'normal' to 'left' (just to try
what would happen). Also starting Opera sometimes causes the system to
freeze (Opera uses hardware acceleration AFAIK). It also happens
sometimes that revealing the launcher in Unity causes the system to
freeze.

Symptoms:
 * Mouse still works, but clicking has no effect
 * keyboard doesn't work, not even the Caps Lock key. Switching to another TTY
thus doen't work
 * I can log in via SSH, although that is very slow. This way I have collected
the bug information (via apport-cli -f)
 * It happens in both Unity and XFCE with Compiz enabled.

[Bug 923285] Re: X freeze with nouveu when doing intensive tasks

2012-01-29 Thread Ayke van Laethem
Note: I first used Nvidia but found it buggy (redraw glitches, font in
tty too big etc.). Then I switched to nouveau and that caused freezes.
Then back to Nvidia and again to nouveau (by removing the nvidia-
current-updates package). The propriteary drives don't crash for me. I
haven't installed libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental.
