[Bug 727092] Re: Samba is not built against CTDB

2012-03-15 Thread Nec
Hi,

How do Ubuntu Server sysadmins do to use the mainstream Ubuntu package system
to obtain a cluster-enabled Samba with CTDB?
This bug (and my experiments) prove there's no way (except using Dan's work).

I don't understand why this bug has low importance?

Serge, I had not directly thought of it because our discussion went
probably into some confusion when also talking about (bug 949028). But
it would make sense. It is not critical to get it into Ubuntu right now

works.

[Bug 811275] Re: package mail-stack-delivery 1:2.0.13-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-removal-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück

2012-03-15 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I have spent some time trying to reproduce your issue - however the only
way I could replicate this in any way was to remove the postfix
configuration directory (/etc/postfix) prior to trying to purge postfix
and mail-stack-delivery.

Re-running 'sudo apt-get purge mail-stack-delivery' successfully
completed the purge operation in my test case as 'postconf' was no
longer installed so mail-stack-delivery won't try to backout its changes
to postfix.

Please could you check whether this was the case in your installation.

I'm going to mark this bug as 'Invalid' for the time being - if this was
not the case please change the Status to 'New'.

[Bug 954368] Re: Upstart script puppet agent

2012-03-15 Thread James Page
Hi Glenn

Thanks for taking the time to prepare this update for the puppet
packaging.

Couple of comments:

1) By default the init script for the puppet agent does not start the
agent; this is set in /etc/default/puppet - the upstart configuration
needs to exhibit the same behaviour.

2) The puppet package also has two other init scripts; we should switch
the package over wholesale to upstart - no just one agent IMHO.

Although I would love to see the puppet packages using upstart I think
its a bit late in the precise development cycle to accept this change.

I suggest that we land an appropriate change once Ubuntu Q development
opens.

Unsubscribing ubuntu-sponsors for the time being.

[Bug 955576] Re: 'local:' services not started on reboot

2012-03-15 Thread Jamie Strandboge
William, thanks that is great news.

James, to call this a limitation is IMHO a major understatement. Since
all services, units, etc are removed after a destroy-environment, the
local environment is nothing more than for testing or demonstration
purposes. Of course, it states right in the page you mentioned that is
has 'the goal of experimenting with juju and developing formulas', but
seems more could be here to make it more useful, even for testing
purposes (eg, I am testing juju but had to reboot my host machine so all
that is lost).

[Bug 956000] [NEW] 'juju' with no arguments gives confusing message

2012-03-15 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

Under https://juju.ubuntu.com/docs/getting-started.html it status Run
the command-line utility with no arguments to create a sample
environment:

$ juju

This will create the file ~/.juju/environments.yaml...

While it does create ~/.juju/environments.yaml, it also output an error. Eg:
$ rm -rf ./.juju
$ juju
error: No environments configured. Please edit:
/home/jamie/.juju/environments.yaml
$ ls -l ./.juju/environments.yaml
-rw--- 1 jamie jamie 175 Mar 15 08:25 ./.juju/environments.yaml

The error message make my think something went wrong even though I was
instructed to do this. This is at best an 'info' message. Eg, this would be
less confusing:
$ juju
info: /home/jamie/.juju/environments.yaml does not exist, creating one. Please

[Bug 956019] [NEW] keystone doesn't install the copyright file

2012-03-15 Thread Felix Geyer
Public bug reported:

keystone doesn't install the copyright file to the binary package
because it never calls dh_installdocs:

ifeq (,$(findstring nodocs, $(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
override_dh_installdocs:
# dh_installdocs

# ln -s ../../../../javascript/jquery/jquery.js

2012-03-15 Thread Serge Hallyn
Note that first the ubuntu-cloud template needs to be fixed to not
always use precise :) I'm going to fix that in the next upload.

The other problem is that the -root images apparently are only created
for precise. I'm assigning this to smoser to get his input on whether
that will change. If not, then we'll have to go back to creating our
own rootfs from the imgs.

2012-03-15 Thread Scott Moser
If you're touching this, please fix use of 'daily' in the ubuntu-
cloudimg-query string. you really should default that to 'released'.
The daily images have little or no validation done to them. use
'released'. Optionally allow a '--stream=daily' flag.

also, you should not assume that the password on the image is 'ubuntu',
but rather set it with 'chpasswd'.

Also, you might find some fun when dealing with older cloud-init
a.) some of your cloud-config settings might not take
b.) nocloud-net and /var/lib/cloud/data/seed is probably not available in lucid.

[Bug 956128] [NEW] find_multipaths feature missing from upstream

2012-03-15 Thread Peter Petrakis
Public bug reported:

There's an interesting feature called find_multipaths that was first
mentioned here on dm-devel in July 2011.

https://www.redhat.com/archives/dm-devel/2011-July/msg00102.html

It's now the corner stone of dm multipath configuration in the RHEL 6 DM
Multipath configuration guide
https://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/DM_Multipath/config_file_blacklist.html

What it basically allows is autoprobing of devices to safely enable multpath on
luns that satisfy
the proper criteria. It has the power to reduce a multipath.conf configuration
to a single line.

Alas it doesn't exist in the upstream sources, only as a patch in RH's
multipath package
  0021-RHBZ-558636-add-find-multipaths.patch

This bug exists to track the status of this feature and it's ultimate
integration into upstream
or into our multipath-tools package.

[Bug 947309] Re: racoon phase 2 negotiation fails with Win Vista/7

2012-03-15 Thread Robie Basak
@Kaarle

Great!

As I'm not in a position to reproduce the bug and you haven't yet
verified if the patch does solve the problem, I don't want to request a
change to the official package just yet.

To make testing easier for you I've blindly applied the patch and
uploaded an updated package to my PPA here:
https://launchpad.net/~racb/+archive/experimental

Could you please try this package to see if this fixes your problem?

If it works for you, then I'll prepare an update to the official
archive, we'll write an SRU justification and the package will be built
in lucid-proposed for you to test the actual candidate package for the
update. Once that passes verification then the update can be moved into
lucid-updates.

[Bug 954692] Re: cannot detach volume from terminated instance

2012-03-15 Thread Adam Gandelman
Bogged down with other things ATM, but spent some time looking at this
last night.

nova.compute.manager._shutdown_instance() raises an exception if the
instance is already in POWEROFF state. It looks like this conditional
has existed forever:

if current_power_state == power_state.SHUTOFF:
self.db.instance_destroy(context, instance_id)
_msg = _('trying to destroy already destroyed instance: %s')
raise exception.Invalid(_msg % instance_uuid)

It currently does nothing to cleanup bdms and inform nova-volume that the
volume is free. We can certainly do that from the compute manager when the
condition is met, volumes are freed up to be used elsewhere. The problem
there is the iSCSI sessions are never cleaned up from the compute host.
Reattaching the volume to another instance on the same compute node works okay
since https://review.openstack.org/#change,4611, but having dangling iSCSI
sessions hanging around seems dirty.

Looking at the libvirt compute driver, it appears the
l_shutdown_instance()'s later call to driver.destroy() handles
terminating an already SHUTOFF'd instance just fine, and also properly
cleans up its iscsi connections, among other things. It would appear
that, in teh case of libvirt, the condition raised above is obsolete.
But I'm unsure if this is true for other compute drivers and hesitant to
propose dropping it without confirmation.

[Bug 956366] [NEW] self-referential security groups can not be deleted

Public bug reported:

Creating security groups that authorize themselves (and probably other
groups) cannot be deleted from nova.

To reproduce:

(SIDE NOTE: I couldn't get euca2ools to create the test case because its
using some deprecated authorize_security_group call. To do this, I had
to edit 'euca2ools/commands/euca/authorize.py', ln 94 and change
'authorize_security_group_deprecated' to 'authorize_security_group')

[Bug 956374] Re: KVM: Windows Server 2008 VM bluescreens on install

2012-03-15 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in kvm.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 954692] Re: cannot detach volume from terminated instance

2012-03-15 Thread Chris Behrens
I think removing that block of code makes sense.

However, a few lines below, I would add a try/except around the call to
self.driver.destroy(). It looks like it could raise if the instance is
not created at the driver level, which could be the case for an instance
that's in ERROR state.

[Bug 956374] Re: KVM: Windows Server 2008 VM bluescreens on install

2012-03-15 Thread jrssystemsnet
Hm. I take it back about the problem not existing in Oneiric - I wiped
the machine and reloaded clean with Oneiric Server, and am encountering
the same bluescreen during installation at the same place. This may be
related to the hardware platform - I *JUST* did several of these
installs onto Intel i7 and AMD Opteron machines this week, but this
particular host is an Athlon X3-based machine.

Maybe there's a bug related to the hardware? I don't think it's actual
*faulty* hardware; the problem is too consistent and only occurs during
guest installation - also, I've switched from a ripped ISO image (which
worked fine for previous installs) to reading /dev/sr0 directly (from a
different disc, yet) and got the exact same bluescreen.

Retrying yet again with a non-SP1 Windows Server 2008 disc at /dev/sr0
now to see if the results are any different.

Yep, same bluescreen with Server 2008 R2, non-SP1. That's three
different discs and a ripped ISO image, all of which are known good,
which bluescreen in the same place with the same error. I'm going to
replace the motherboard and CPU with an Intel i7 and see if the problem
stays with me or not.

For reference - current motherboard is Asus m5a88-M, current CPU is

Intel i7-2600 ASAP and retesting. I pretty much expect the bluescreen

[Bug 954692] Re: cannot detach volume from terminated instance

2012-03-15 Thread Adam Gandelman
Chris-

I'm a little uncomfortable wrapping self.driver.destroy in a try/except
block until there is a common exception language virt drivers can use to
raise specific, fatal exceptions. I'm thinking of a scenario where
libvirt/xs cannot shutdown instance, raises, and compute continues on
with volume disassociation. The stuck instance may still be powered on
and scribbling all over its disk, meanwhile the volume has been attached
to another instance.

[Bug 956655] [NEW] dnsmasq spams out thousands of queries

2012-03-15 Thread Martin Pool
Public bug reported:

I've repeatedly seen dnsmasq get into a situation where it repeatedly
spams out many many queries. I'm not sure why; perhaps it's got into a
state where it's sending queries to itself? I'm not precisely sure how
to reproduce it but it's something to do with my machine suspending and
resuming and/or bringing up/down wired and wireless interfaces.

http://github.com/openstack/nova/commit/6657f70ee3e792b39e45a2a96fb5d4b380f0ae91
Submitter: Jenkins
Branch:master

commit 6657f70ee3e792b39e45a2a96fb5d4b380f0ae91
Author: Adam Gandelman ad...@canonical.com
Date: Thu Mar 15 18:08:35 2012 -0700

Allow proper instance cleanup if state == SHUTOFF

Removes an obsolete check for instance's power_state
on shutdown_instance(). With it in place, volume detachment
and disassociation never takes place. Compute should instead rely
on virt drivers to handle this case and raise accordingly. libvirt's
destroy() currently handles powered off instances fine, and properly
detaches any existing volume connections.

Fixes bug 954692

[Bug 877040] Re: Can't login to 11.10 if autofs is used to mount network directories

2012-03-15 Thread Alex Cochrane
For what it is worth, I tested this with unity, gnome and XFCE and the
bug exists with both unity and gnome. XFCE works properly (and is
subsequently my new desktop env), so it seems this is due to some
package that is shared by unity and gnome but not xfce.

[Bug 956366] Re: self-referential security groups can not be deleted

2012-03-15 Thread OpenStack Hudson
Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/5424
Committed:
http://github.com/openstack/nova/commit/dd6c1907c6634ccb41c3d94ed3296498e32333b0
Submitter: Jenkins
Branch:master

commit dd6c1907c6634ccb41c3d94ed3296498e32333b0
Author: Adam Gandelman ad...@canonical.com
Date: Thu Mar 15 15:38:11 2012 -0700

db api: Remove check for security groups reference

security_group_in_use() should only be checking that a security
group is associated with running instances, not that other groups
are referencing it in their rules. With this check in place, it
becomes impossible to delete self-referential security groups.

Fixes bug 956366.

Update: Remove obsolete test as well

[Bug 956655] Re: dnsmasq spams out thousands of queries

2012-03-15 Thread Martin Pool
So my machine had, every time I booted up, several instances:

mbp@joy% ps wwwax -o pid,ppid,cmd |grep dnsm
 1752 1 dnsmasq -u lxc-dnsmasq --strict-order --bind-interfaces
--pid-file=/var/run/lxc/dnsmasq.pid --conf-file= --listen-address 10.0.3.1
--dhcp-range 10.0.3.2,10.0.3.254 --dhcp-lease-max=253 --dhcp-no-override

 1779 1 /usr/sbin/dnsmasq -u libvirt-dnsmasq --strict-order
--bind-interfaces --pid-file=/var/run/libvirt/network/default.pid --conf-file=
--except-interface lo --listen-address 192.168.122.1 --dhcp-range

mbp@joy% ps 1385

and it looks like 1752 and 2780 were furiously talking to each other,

Unfortunately no. I tried submitting the package upstream to Debian a while
ago, however it couldn't be included due to licensing concerns.

I'm not sure where things are at currently, I no longer play this game, nor
use a Debian or Ubuntu derived distro. If someone else wants to take over,
feel free.

Jack

[Bug 948716] Re: grub-probe erroneously returns FAT UUID in lowercase

2012-03-15 Thread mikifin
I downloaded the file.

Let's review, so that I get you what you want. I am going to image the
PC as it is. Wipe it and install Ubuntu using your file on a OEM Windows
7 system. This may take awhile, maybe several days.

First, I have to say that I was attempting to install 11.04 and
installing the files to a back partition in my case H directly from the
Ubuntu site not with a CD/DVD.

Now, this is the process I used initially and I will repeat it using
your new file. I opened a network connection from a Windows 7 Home
Premium OS, downloaded wubi from the Ubuntu site and ran it on my
desktop and it appeared that wubi went onto the internet and downloaded
the files from Ubuntu for the 11.04 version and installed them to the H
drive. The Windows boot menu appeared, I selected Ubuntu and next a
grub2? boot menu appeared and I selected Ubuntu and it failed.

I got an email from bcbc and followed his email to collect the
information he needed and passed on to Ilya.

Since that time I did three things. I investigated the issue from the
windows side. First I discovered that the Windows system was setup on a
dynamic drive. Then second I discovered that I had to shift the drive to
a static drive to install another OS and did that. I then discovered (as
is common on most OEM computers like Dell) that they fill up the drive
with primary partitions so that you can't install another type of
operating system. It seems Windows systems only allow four primary
partitions, so third I turned two of the partitions to extended
partition, which gave me the ability to install another OS.

One point, mostly for Windows users, the windows operating system will
only trigger the (you must change some of your partitions to extended
partitions to add another primary partition [you need to do this to add
another operating system]) warning ONCE, so if you miss this warning you
can chase your tail all day and not be able to add Linux and not know
why. In preparation for doing a more conservative install of an older
version of Linux I did this.

I decided to backstep to 10.43 and changed the partitioning as
described above and then installed the Ubuntu files using a downloaded
Ubuntu image ISO on a DVD and used the wubi.exe in the image and
directed the installer to put the files on the C or primary partition
(sda0?) instead of a back partition and it worked like a charm. This
tells us that there isn't anything in the hardware creating the problem
and nothing intrinsic with Windows 7 and all its patches to cause the
problem.

So to recap, I am going to install the OEM Windows 7 image. THIS TIME I
am going to go through all the hard drive changes, FIRST, (this may have
triggered the UUID detection process) with the target for the installed
Linux files being loaded and installed to the back partition DIRECTLY
from the web image of the latest version of Ubuntu (I am assuming here
that the wubi installer and Ubuntu version are set to install the latest
stable version of Ubuntu directly from the Ubuntu site). Letting the
wubi installer go onto the Ubuntu site and download the Ubuntu files
from the site and install them to the back drive as I tried to do
initially. This way we can learn if it is with the whole download and
install directly from the internet process (files pulled from the wrong
place on the site? or corruption in transit). If this works using your
NEW file then problem solved. If it fails I will run the same commands
shown in the previous emails to gather information and then run the
latest 64 bit version from an ISO that I will download and use your new
wubi file to see if I can make it pick up the disk and install it
(bypassing the wubi file in the image) (directions on how to do this may
be needed) and see if this works after I wipe the machine and install
the clean OEM windows 7 image.

Sorry to make your eyes bleed, but since this takes a lot of work I want
to make sure we are all on the same page about the process.

If there are any caveats, directions, changes etc. email me.

Mike
