[Bug 783240] Re: disable autohide AppMenu (global menu)

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 682788 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682788

This bug is about autohide behavior of the global menu. John Lea, you
link it now to bug 682788, what is about switching of the global menu at
all.

So I think linking it to https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/732653
makes more sense.

[Bug 853820] Re: Unable to loop around Launcher when using ALT+F1

So, does anyone here have privileges to change the status fields?

Unity is Fix Released. That suggest Ayatana-design must be the same.

Unity 2D might go from Won't Fix to Confirmed, then.

I'd do this, if I could. Thanks.

[Bug 986499] [NEW] geeqie using /etc/alternatives unnecessarily

2012-04-21 Thread Smylers
Public bug reported:

/usr/bin/geeqie is a symlink to /etc/alternatives/geeqie, which in turn
is a symlink to /usr/bin/geeqie-standard

In Precise this is unnecessary, since geeqie is the only package that
provides a program called geeqie, as can be seen with:

  $ /usr/lib/command-not-found --ignore-installed geeqie

(Compare that with something like vi, where many packages are listed.)

The existence of geeqie-standard makes tab-completion less useful, since
it matches the same prefixes as geeqie itself, creating an ambiguity.
Renaming geeqie-standard to geeqie and no longer using the alternatives
system would avoid this.

[Bug 781931] Re: New windows are moved to front but don't take focus

2012-04-21 Thread Oscar Tiderman
I'd say the Update Manager is the most obvious example of this, happens
every time. It pops up when starting an upgrade on top of all other
windows but doesn't have focus. It doesn't help to click on one of the
windows behind it to bring that one to front, Update Manager still lies
on top without focus. To get rid of it you first have to click on it to
give it focus and then on one of the other windows to bring Update
Manager to back again.

reset from my wlan. sometime i must do it twice bevor i can connect "to
the internet"

this happens also if the screensaver starts. i came back to my laptop,
login by screensaver - no more networks

another observation: i turn of my laptop (shutdown) but, ubuntu starts
by itself.

Looks good to me. Lets wait for the fix to settle in official repos -
then I'll change the bug status.

BTW this PPA will contain the latest unmodified code from git, so feel
free to check resolved issues and report bugs to upstream developers.

[Bug 986494] [NEW] "Install Ubuntu MAAS Server" option not working

2012-04-21 Thread Dhamodharan Pandurangan
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot from ubuntu CD (I used ubuntu-12.04-beta2-server-amd64)
2. Select "Ubuntu MAAS installation or Enlistment"
3. Continue with the installation process until "Install or Enlist with Ubuntu
MAAS Server" screen.
4. Select "Install Ubuntu MAAS Server" option

What happens:
5. The installer shows "Ubuntu Installer main menu" screen defaulted to
"Install or Enlist with Ubuntu MAAS Server" option. If selected, it goes again
to "Install or Enlist with Ubuntu MAAS Server" screen and it continues to loop
between these two screens.

What should happen:
The installer should proceed with the maas installation on select of "Install
Ubuntu MAAS Server" option.

[Bug 982767] Re: aptdaemon crashes during update-manager run: "Could not cancel transaction"

2012-04-21 Thread Edward Donovan
Thank you, Steve, that helps quite a bit.

The 'client-side duping' I'm talking about is, I guess, a fairly recent
arrival?

  http://www.piware.de/2011/11/apport-1-90-client-side-duplicate-
checking/

"So with the just released Apport 1.90 we introduce client-side
duplicate checking. So from now, when you report a crash, you are likely
to see “We already know about this” right away, without having to upload
or type anything, and you will get directed to the bug page. You should
mark yourself as affected and/or subscribe to the bug, both to get a
notification when it gets fixed, and also to properly raise the
“hotness” of the bug to bubble up to developer attention."

Does this help explain my preceding posts? If not, excuse me again! :)

To me, that's how I got to 628104, and from the looks of it, I think
that's true for just about all the newer comments, that reference
Precise. From what I can see, people are mostly not subscribing, as
Martin proposes. That may be creating, inadvertently, some hit-and-run
reporting, with not much follow-up. (It's this impression that has led
me to be sort of knuckleheadedly persistent, in my fumbly efforts to
pursue this.)

I'll try to post more tomorrow, with more info about reproducing, and
I'll see if this has made any better sense of things, yet. Thanks.

[Bug 985119] Re: [soundnua]: doesn't offer 'Analogue stereo Output' option

2012-04-21 Thread candtalan
In my (three) machines, skype works afaik (uses usb, which is an
external audio and vid device) however, when listening to streaming
audio or the Examples files for example, the -built in- audio is used
ok, but no record level is got from the sound recorder. Note that using
the gnome classic desktop environment, the successful choices *can* be
made. And still, (in gnome classic) duplex does not give audio to sound
recorder, only output does. Suggests it is associated with the way
sound settings, audio apps, are , in unity vs gnome classic? The
hardware is obviously capable. thanks

[Bug 957843] Re: files in eCryptFS Private directory get corrupted

2012-04-21 Thread Christian Mertes
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 509180 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509180

It's not a duplicate of bug #509180. #509180 is about some trailing
garbage appearing at the end of files, then you remount and everything
is shiny again. This bug is about files getting broken and staying
broken and all the data in them is lost! Please remove the duplicate
status and set the importance on critical instead. Not that I use this
encryption layer anymore but if that's not a critical bug in the context
of the ecryptfs-utils package that deserves more attention then what is?

Actually, "fichiers multimédia" is correct as "multimédia" is already
a plural form.

However, it can be changed to "multimédias" to close the bug and avoid
new reports.

The issue is that we have no idea what you're referring to here as
"client-side duping". We have bug patterns, which tell apport not to file a
bug report but direct the user to a web page instead; but there is no bug
pattern in place for this bug. There's the apport crash retracer which
identifies duplicates, but that only happens *after* a new bug report has
been filed, and we see no record of new bug reports being filed.

So we frankly have no idea what you're seeing, because it doesn't match the
developers' understanding of how apport works. I think you will need to
walk us through, page-by-page and quoting word for word, what you see on
your system when the crash report appears, so we can understand exactly
what's going on.

Bug #628104 has new comments, but it has never had a bug pattern and there
are no duplicate bugs against it since May 2011. Bug #855394 had a bug
pattern which was being used to track hits, and received none from January
to the end of March. So while I believe that apport directed you here, I
don't know *how*, and we need to fix that so that we can get good, fresh
crash reports from the users who are seeing the issue.
