[Bug 995361] [NEW] lxc must depend on cloud-utils

2012-05-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

The template lxc-ubuntu-cloud uses ubuntu-cloudimg-query, which is in
the cloud-utils package. So, lxc should depend on cloud-utils.

[Bug 995495] [NEW] Upgrade from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 breaks slapd

2012-05-06 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 gssapiauth doesn't work any
more with slapd (OpenLDAP):

# ldapsearch
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Other (e.g., implementation specific) error (80)
additional info: SASL(-1): generic failure: GSSAPI Error: Unspecified
GSS failure. Minor code may provide more information ()

While on some other 11.10 system:
# ldapsearch /dev/null
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
SASL username: x@XX
SASL SSF: 56
SASL data security layer installed.

Konfiguration files where kept and edited manually afterwards. No really
big changes: mostly additional comments and local configuration missing.

[Bug 994533] Re: cannot install ia32-libs on Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64

2012-05-06 Thread Steve Langasek
But how was this inconsistancy possible?
Any idea, what I did wrong?

I don't think this is due to anything you did wrong; most likely, there
was simply a single-bit memory or disk error that broke the checksum of
your conffile.

Could I found this solution by myself?

Not easily, and for that I reassign the bug to dpkg rather than just
closing it outright. However, this is a low priority issue since it's
unlikely to affect many people who don't have failing hardware.

[Bug 927540] Re: multipath ignores blacklist in multipath.conf

2012-05-06 Thread gdahlman
I think blacklist device maching is expanded as a regex and not as a
glob, thus the * will not provide a match. Can you try the following
change.

Replace:

 device {
vendor DELL*
product PERC*
}

With:

   device {
   vendor DELL.*
   product PERC.*
   }

Also if you could paste the output from

$ sudo udisks --dump

It would help debug this issue, I am not on the Ubuntu team but I am
trying to track down an issue that may be related to this.

[Bug 995364] [NEW] Language switching unavailable in official web help for 11.10 and 12.04 desktops

2012-05-06 Thread Zerqy
Public bug reported:

I discovered that https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/ubuntu-help/ and
https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/ubuntu-help/ site directories are
available in several different languages, but there is no way to switch
between them from the site itself.

Currently, to access them, you need to manipulate Accept-Language request
header in your browser. In Firefox, it can be done
(1) by editing intl.accept_languages preference at about:config page,
(2) in Preferences-Content-Languages window or
(3) by using an extension like Quick Locale Switcher.

I think it's better practice for multi-language site to provide some
control to select the language. It will make difference when a user is
not sure he/she understands a sentence in his/her current language
correctly and wants to consult the same page in another, or suspects a
translation mistake. It will make checking translations for mistakes on-
line faster and easier.

[Bug 995362] [NEW] Auto-Hide Launcher set to off after reboot

2012-05-06 Thread Tobias Daikeler
Public bug reported:

Hello togehter,

have updated Ubuntu 11.04 now to 12.04 (32bit) on my Dell Latitude D420.
So far everything runs smooth.

But now I have a small problem with the auto-hide function of the
launcher.

It is no problem to set it to on. But it auto-hides only until the last reboot
of my laptop.
At the next startup it is set ack to off.
On my other laptop (Inspiron 6400) and in a VM this error does not appear.

Is anyone aware of this problem and knows a solution?

Thanks a lot,
Regards Tobias

[Bug 815047] Re: double tap with a trackpad on title bar does not maximise widow in Ubuntu 11.10

2012-05-06 Thread jerico
BTW: Double-clicking on a maximized window's title bar (i.e. the global
menu bar) works and the window correctly toggles to its unmaximized
state.

[Bug 995366] [NEW] Local Port 0 causes trouble with firewalls

2012-05-06 Thread Konstantin
Public bug reported:

When fixing #513166, it was introduced that the Local Port 0 option is
always sent to vpnc. This however causes problems as some access point
do not accept traffic other than from the default port 500.

There is no possibility in networkmanager to change this behaviour.

Since there seems to be a need for bothe, the default port 500 and
random port selection as demanded in #513166, this should be made into a
GUI option.

[Bug 995365] [NEW] Upgrade problem Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04

2012-05-06 Thread Diana
Public bug reported:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the
'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/
in the bug report.

Have read other bugs of this nature, have tried removing:
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
as previously suggested, this got me from 10.04 to 10.10

I am now getting the same message when trying to upgrade to 11.04 and
don't know how to find which packages are the problem.

will post the logs from var/log/dist-upgrade below

[Bug 989581] Re: Black areas in gnome-system-monitor graphs when running under xfce

2012-05-06 Thread Roman Pach
The issue is, that you have not set up the gtk3 theme in xubuntu.
It should better be done by xubuntu desktop, I think.
So it's anyway a kind of bug.

See please the blog on

http://binbashblog.blogspot.de/2011/10/manually-change-gtk3-theme-in-xubuntu.html

The following has helped:
  cp -r /usr/share/themes/greybird/gtk-3.0 ~/.config

For root account you need:
  sudo cp -r /usr/share/themes/greybird/gtk-3.0 /root/.config

There were the problem with black areas with other gtk3 application as well,
e.g. evince.

I wish I had known about this bug report before now.

Reverting the above mentioned commit will fix this issue yes, but then
break the massively low reported load averages under other conditions.

[Bug 995372] [NEW] switching external monitors impossible

2012-05-06 Thread Dvir Volk
Public bug reported:

after upgrading to 12.04 I've encountered the following problem with
gnome3 desktop:

I have 2 screens for my laptop (dell xps502z), one at home and one at
work. they have different resolutions, and both connected via the mini-
displayPort socket (the hdmi socket on this dell doesn't work due to
Nvidia Optimus crap).

When moving from one monitor to the other, the monitor doesn't get a
signal. Opening the display manager shows the screen blackened, and
trying to enable it brings about the following error:

GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface
`org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XRANDR_2' on object at path
/org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/XRANDR

restarting X11 solves this, but of course means I have to exit any open
window, and reconfigure my dual monitor layout each time. this was 100%
fine in 11.10.

this happens when moving from either screen to the other.

[Bug 995371] [NEW] package iso-codes 3.31-1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: package iso-codes is already installed and configured

2012-05-06 Thread Manfredi
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded Ubuntu to the 12.04 version, I've encountered several
error messages every time I boot the PC. The PC ultimately crashes if I
ignore them in about 2-3 hours. If I don't ignore the messages, they
keep popping up and the more I try to interact with them (closing them,
signaling errors, even just clicking on them) the more messages pop up.
The first ones are always about a problem with a system program; there
are some Ubuntu 12.04 has encountered an internal error, and the rest
seem related to some packages, mostly python stuff and this iso-codes
one.

[Bug 995330] Re: Libreoffice has no border on menus (KDE)

2012-05-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Renato S. Yamane, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, this is:
- a clearcut upstream issue.
Resolving as Won't Fix in libreoffice (Ubuntu) and LibreOffice Packaging. This
does not mean the issue will not be cared about, but if it is cared about (even
by Ubuntu/Canonical contributors), it is done upstream at LibreOffice.

[Bug 995293] Re: Gtk3 applications look awful under Xfce

2012-05-06 Thread Dave Lentz
xfce themes can support gtk2 and gtk3 (look in /usr/share/themes to see
if your theme has a gtk-3.0 subfolder). It does not matter if xfce is
written with gtk2; that does not stop it from running and theming gtk3
apps. Even Gnome and KDE allow theming each others' apps (though it
doesn't always work perfectly).

I'm running xfce and I use a theme with gtk2 and gtk3 configuration. My
apps look fairly consistent, although my theme could use updating to be
fully compliant with gtk 3.4

[Bug 939161] Re: Hardware not showed in Gnome-Control-Center. - [M31EI Series, Realtek ALC861, Green Headphone Out, Rear]

2012-05-06 Thread Marc
If I start gnome-control-center sound in unity - the tab Hardware is not
shown and I'm not able to switch between
integrated speaker output and HDMI-Output.

IF I start the same command in gnome-shell I get it correct like in 11.10
(oneiric)
But since upgrading to precise

I have to use sudo gnome-control-center sound to change the output
hardware to HDMI instead of integrated speaker

[Bug 820881] Re: [i945] Heavy screen and font corruption when free memory is low on GMA950

2012-05-06 Thread Thorsten Kohfeldt
Sitsofe,

I experience this problem in Oneiric:

cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.0.0-19-generic (buildd@vernadsky) (gcc version 4.6.1
(Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.1-9ubuntu3) ) #33-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 19 19:05:57 UTC 2012

dpkg -l | grep xserver-xorg\

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ
Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)
cat /proc/version

I can easily reproduce the problem instantly after boot when running
bonnie++ benchmarks while switching between multiple X servers via
Ctrl/Alt F7-F12, given the following lightdm config (I am logged into
one session and the other sessions just show the greeter):

cat /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

[LightDM]
greeter-user=lightdm

[SeatDefaults]

autologin-user=

[Seat:4]
user-session=xubuntu
autologin-user=

[Seat:5]
user-session=xubuntu

In case I swapoff -a before starting the test, then the problem seems to
be gone though.

Re: [Bug 982303] Re: msyql configuration via dbconfig-common not picked up by initctl automatically during installation

2012-05-06 Thread Paul Gevers
Is this really a problem with mysql?

As I said in my original bug report, I am not sure, see below.

If upstart is missing a new job file, I think this is most likely
caused by some problem with inotify or upstart itself, not mysql or
 its maintainer scripts.

Indeed, that is also why I also mentioned the usb stick. Isn't inotify
integrated in the file system? I suspect this issue result from the fact
that the stick has vfat fs.

Is your system using overlayfs? IIRC, inotify does not work with
overlayfs, which is why aufs was re-instated for the precise kernel,
but perhaps your system still uses overlayfs?

So my question: could the same problem be with vfat? And if so, where
should this bug go, to upstart (to check for the file system)?

Paul
By the way, the bugs I set as duplicates yesterday are probably not dups
of this bug, but more likely related to bug 986892.

[Bug 838811] Re: load average too low

2012-05-06 Thread Doug Smythies
see also bug 985661 (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/985661 )

I made a kernel with the patch taken out and verified, basically 0 load average
(which we already know load averages are always at or near 0 no matter what the
real load is undet these conditions.)
I also verified my patch version2 behaves the same (version 2 is the one I
escalated to kernel.org, but it got changed to cover a code path condition that
my computers never take)

I went back even further to my patch version 1 (see posting way 23
above), and while it does better under these low load but high frequency
enter/exit idle conditons, it still isn't very good (I'll try to post a
graph tomorrow).

The root issue/challenge is still one of signal aliaising with the 10
ticks grace period stuff that allows for catch up due to long idle
periods. Under the current structure of this part of the sched.c code, I
am not sure that a solution to cover all conditions is possible in a
tickless kernel. The code is also extremely difficult to follow. I do
not understand why the code treats going into idle differently than
exiting idle. To my way of thinking the code should be completely
symetric in that regard. Anyway, I will continue to work on it.
